Door Dash made the money right but I wanted to make Tamales Moreno aware of what I found. Tamales Moreno had wonderful service and the tamales were so good. I would highly recommend this location.

I had 2 asada and 2 carnitas tacos and had one green tamale. The food was above average. The tamale seemed a little small. They did not honor the Tuesday special on their web page so I paid $2.75 a taco instead of the advertised $1.75. Overall a good little place, just won't go as often as I might have. read more

Haha u snooze u lose. I added the business, took pics, and was gonna be the first to review but that was almost a month ago finally get to finish the review. I stopped by for a quick light bite before a movie started next door. The tacos, four of them, were delicious and looked better than what I expected being that it hadn't been yelped yet. They also give you complementary fresh made chips and salsa. I saw that they have $1.99 breakfast burritos too. The burritos have a choice of plain, special, smothered, and deluxe I forget what eat was but I think it involved added more ingredients. Service was good, the guy who manned the front, brought the food out quickly, kept refining the chips and salsa and drinks, and friendly. Prices are average. Now the non-food details... The service varies greatly by staff. Tonight the bathroom was locked, but clean when unlocked. Except no toilet paper. Probably thats why it was locked. Tonight I was charged before the meal (eating in): usually normal custom prevails. 46" flat screen on wall is usually in Spanish, tonight it's on a local English TV channel. The volume is moderate, while a Hispanic radio station plays simultaneously on wall speakers. Surveillance cameras everywhere. Homey ambiance. Previously no WiFi. I have been here several times, it can be a hit or miss depending who is working. There is a man who is always upset, makes no eye contact, and is rude so when we see him there we just go somewhere else. My last visit was today (Dec24) around 1pm, we called ahead to make sure it was opened, well yes they were open but not serving food (just tamales) and they said we couldnt eat there, just to go orders :( so I had to eat in my car with my family. Very disappointed with the service. And also its been several times that we go and the whole place smells like clorox, there is no ventilation so you have to eat with that smell. Have been there twice. I never liked tamales until now. The food was authentic and amazing. Green chili was spicey, but so good.

So I waited 15 minutes just for someone to come out to try to take my order. There was two elderly woman there. I wanted two number 6's, two number 20's, one dozen green tamales and half dozen red. She struggled trying to understand and started writing it down. Seems like she understood. They come out and ask if I wanted chili on the number 6's, mind you this is a Mexican hamburger, of course I do!! Then comes back and says beans rice, I said yes, they go back. Come back out "beans rice?" And I say yes and then she says "no" and I say "yes" and she's says it doesn't come with it. I say it's a combination plate and point to the top where it sates in bold red "all combinations come with beans/rice". She says "oh" goes back, then a guys comes out with her and says "grilled cheese" I said "yes" he says very rudely "well we ain't got bread" and walks alway. I then told the lady never mind, I've already been there at this point for about 30/40 minutes just trying to clarify my order at this point. Let me do say the Morenos in Lakewood is the best! A friend and her children and I went to Tamales Moreno on Friday evening September 11th... we went up to the counter to order and it was about 6:10 p.m. the sign on the door said they close at 8 p.m. when my friend started to order the guy behind the counter, who by the way was very rude on my previous visit, rolled his eyes stepped back and made a noise like he was disgusted, and then he said no you can only order tamales, I asked him if he was open till 8 cuz the sign on the door said open til 8pm and he said no my boss told me I have to close early, I would think during Covid... restaurants... especially a small business like Tamales Moreno would welcome diners, we went to Luna's after and they were so packed that we had to find another restaurant to go to but at least they were serving people... I think Tamales Moreno deserves to go under if that's the way they treat their customers. If I could give negative stars...i would read more

A tasty meal before the movie at the Elvis Theater next door, served so quickly it made my head spin. This has made me a fan for sure. I had two red tamales and really enjoyed them; very meaty with no gristle or fat at all, and the smothering chile and cheese were great. My friend snarfed down a smothered chicharron burrito which was good enough to prevent dinner conversation. We'll be back on movie days. Too bad it is this far away from home! BEST tamales in town. They are juicy and flavorful and don't even need the green chile sauce. So delicious. I've also had the carne asada tacos, and they are quite good too. And cheap. Did I mention that? The inside was pretty rundown and dirty, with a TV blasting a Mexican soap opera, but I doubt many people are dining in anyway. Super friendly staff, too. Holy smokes. Okay, to start, you have to be into hole in the wall. Hole in the wall means it's not going to be the most glam, full-service, trendy spot. It means it might be a little rough around the edges. Best, it means that a place is raw, basic, and DELICIOUS. That's how I would describe Tamales Moreno. Husband and I hit up this spot when going to a movie next door at the Elvis. We expected average. And instead, I think I found my favorite Mexican joint in Colorado after living here for 15 years. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with no beans and then a crispy chile relleno on the side. (I was feel decadent.) Husband ordered a chorizo burrito. We were both blown away a few bites in. The cheese is real cheese. The tomatoes taste fresh. The meat is just spicy enough. There was FLAVOR to the dishes. The dishes are properly portioned so that you won't be hungry, and there's no lazy smothering going on with these dishes. The chile is just right. The prices aren't super cheap, but they're appropriate when you taste the quality. When we complimented the cook who was both cooking and being cashier/waiter, the man finally cracked a smile. He was working double hard and had been pretty quiet to the point that we just figured he was having a bad day. So, sure, I don't know if we'd go there if we want a special night with a waiter visiting our table. For a last minute weeknight date, though, this is a shoo-in. If you're okay ordering at the table and enjoying the company you're with, this is the place to try. We are now committed to driving 10 minutes here instead of going to the "good enough" Mexican joint a block from our house. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for an early dinner. Mama was craving tamales and this spot is a few blocks from the house. We had never tried it before and she was feeling adventurous and agreed to try something new. The place is small, not tiny but only about 6 tables in a storefront next to the Elvis cinema in Arvada. The gentleman manning the restaurant seemed a little out of it, not too talkative and didn't really help us choose anything or make any suggestions. Mama got 2 green tamales, she says they were good, nothing that she'll crave and long for, but she ate both with no complaint ( which is a huge compliment from her...she rarely likes anything new or tries it without complaint). The kids had burgers and fries, they really didn't like them because the cook put mustard and ketchup both on a burger which renders it unpalatable by my children. I had a Mexican hamburger, the chile was spicy but had a unique flavor. The beans were creamy, I couldn't tell if they were fresh from the day or yesterday.. Overall it wasn't a bad experience. I don't think we would go out of our way to eat here again, but I certainly wouldn't skip over it intentionally. Word. read more

A small place that could become great. We were there at 5:00 and were the only people who ate there. The older man behind the counter was there by himself and was not the most sociable type. The food tasted great but the chicken enchilada was a bit dry which I suspect it was microwaved. The green chili on my chili relleno was excellent and is spicy! My concern with this place is the hygiene. After our order was taken, the credit card was ran, he went back and started preparing our meal and did not wear gloves or wash his hands. I am not a freak about this but it would be nice to make sure the food is not cross contaminated. One weird thing is the TV still has clear wrapping paper and the yellow stickers on it but its hung on the wall. Walked into the restaurant on a Sunday night around 7:00 to find it completely empty except for the person running the restaurant... that should have been my first clue. He was punching a phone number into his phone when we came in, and even though I walked up and stood right in front of him, he didn't make any comment (or even eye contact) until my daughter said, "excuse me, sir." Then he told her to hold on. When he was done with his phone-call, we ordered some tamales to go (a surprise for my husband who loves tamales.) I crossed my fingers and hoped that the tamales would make up for the lack of customer service, but sadly, they did the opposite. First, I have to say, I am from Tucson and I know good tamales. I have eaten many a tamale, and I have made home-made tamales myself. The flavor of these tamales was actually quite good, but it was ruined by the giant globules of fat running through each tamale. In all my years of eating tamales I have never seen anything like it. I'm not talking a piece of fat here or there, I'm talking about a giant string of fat running end to end. It was disgusting. And having made tamales myself, I know it is impossible to do that without being aware that you are doing that... in other words, they were cutting corners and meat. Such a bummer... I love a good hole in the wall, but unfortunately this was not of the good variety. (A couple of minutes after writing this, I decided to open up another and take a picture if it had the same fatty issues. This one had some fat, but not as much. What it did have was something very hard in the middle. Yes, I know that often tamales come with something in the middle like an olive or a potato,etc. What this was, was completely unidentifiable.
