Visited the Calypso Café last weekend. It's a cute cafe but seemed more like a convenient spot for locals and those taking their boats out at the CCYC. This cafe is a mix of made to order food and grab n go drinks (including coffee and alcohol) and snacks (like upscale convenience store). With a name like Calypso Café I was expecting more variety in their selection though. But we were satisfied with our orders. Everything was fresh and tasty. We highly recommend My husband and I stumbled across this cute little Café in Coronado and fell in love. Once we realized they had Lamb Shank we just had to give it a try. My husband, Alex is a big fan of Lamb. We were pleasantly surprised by how authentic the dish was! Very flavorful and tender. All the sides were delish as well. The service was top notch! Hanan (the owner, I believe) was very welcoming and knowledgable about the food and the area. She took good care of us every time. Such a pleasant experience. I had high hopes for this being a nearby deli to walk to for the month. Went the second day while staying in the Cays and ordered the highly recommended fish and chips and a lemonade. Over $30 for that lunch and they did not even have malt vinegar? Needless to say I did not go back at all for the whole month. I stayed there please do better !!! read more

It was about a 10 min easy bike ride from our Silver Strand campground. Excellent customer service and delicious food. Got the BLT sandwich and the breakfast platter w/ ham. Both were delicious and their bread tasted freshly baked. Mocha, tea, and regular coffee were also piping hot and perfect on a cool morning. read more

You order at a counter first, so tip is asked up front. There's really no service provided except for walking your food out. The owner was a sweetheart. They weren't too busy so we got to chat for a few minutes about our newborn we had with us and her family as well. It felt like a very personalized transaction. Food was great! We had the breakfast burrito, lox, and espresso. We also were given a blueberry muffin served warm, and it was so good and quite large! For our 29 wedding anniversary, my wife and I decided to vacation in Coronado, California. During our 3-day vacation, we stumbled upon this quaint little restaurant. We were super impressed with the owner Hanan who couldn't have been more pleasant, warm and welcoming. Because it was in the morning we ordered breakfast. I ordered eggs w/gyros and potatoes. My wife ordered their Calypso breakfast which included the standard two eggs, sausage, potatoes and toast. Both our meals arrived hot and perfectly prepared as ordered. We noted that both our meals were perfectly seasoned and very tasty. We also were blown away by the beautiful setting of the outside seating. The views overlooking the Coronado Cays canal was priceless. When you combine the wonderful spirit of Hanan with the well prepared meal and setting, we can't help but give Calypso Cafe a "5-star" review. read more

Four of us came here for a quick lunch, and we all enjoyed our sandwiches. Beer is available by the bottle, which we enjoyed on the small patio. My bread was over toasted, but didn't detract from the taste of the sandwich. Good choice if in the neighborhood, or driving through. read more

The pancakes were a very good portion and my kids said they were delicious. They came with whipped cream and syrup. The burritos were a perfect portion and filled with eggs, potato, ham, and cheese and served with a side of tasty tomatillo salsa. We came here for dinner Thursday night. It's getting closer to our last days until our big move to Hawaii. I'm going to miss all the places in San Diego. This place was cute and very cozy inside. The restrooms were outside and clean. I had some water along with an iced tea. For my main course, I had the lasagna. It was good. It was a huge slice of lasagna. I really enjoyed it. The menu was pretty limited as the nice lady who was the owner mentioned the food dinner items available. My daughter had the chicken fettuccine. She really enjoyed her food but it was a lot for her. We ended up taking her leftovers home. Hubby had the steak and he enjoyed it medium. Everything was good. Service was excellent and the lady was super nice. I had to ask for a refill of my iced tea and the lady was nice about refilling my cup. Very cute restaurant with plenty of parking up front. There's even a walk way across the street. Found a hidden gem on the SilverStrand that serves up some delicious and tasty food. There's a set breakfast and lunch menu on the front side where you order and pay for your meal and there's the limited dine in menu for dinner time. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. She came to our table and had a friendly conversation and gave us the rundown on the dinner specials. It didn't interest me and I asked for a Steak. She suggested the Filet Mignon or a Bone-In Ribeye. I choose the Bone-In Ribeye cooked Medium. My steak was seasoned well and served with some delicious rice along with grilled onions and tomato. My beautiful daughter asked for Macaroni and Cheese but I told her that we can make that at home and the Owner suggested some Chicken Alfredo for her. Daughter ordered it and really enjoyed it. My wonderful wife ordered the Lasagna and licked her plate clean. There's plenty of parking in front and the restrooms are located next door. read more
