Looked at the course conditions online the day before and they never mentioned that it was cartpath only. Got there to play with my friend and we both are recovering from foot conditions. He's recovering from a sprain ankle and I'm recovering from toe surgery. We both rented a cart and our feet were killing us to walk from the cart path on every shot. Too late to book a tee time anywhere else getting notified at the last minute when we show up. Totally ruined my game I can play golf, but having to walk all that amount caused my foot a lot of discomfort. Learn to update your website!!! read more

Callippe Preserve is a pretty nice course from first impressions. But as you take a closer look - it's all facade and no depth. There are just too many environmentally sensitive areas for my taste. Sure, save a frog, toad, a lizard or two...I understand we need hippies to save those things but I've never actually seen what they are so adamant about preserving. Who knows?...it could even just be the shrubs they're trying to save. I've never bothered asking because it's stupid. Let's build a golf course and surround houses on it...but let's try to preserve some creeky, environmentally sensitive areas? so we can give out the perception that...'We Care'. b/s. Yeah, you could hate me...I use to be a hippie like you guys but these are changing times and golf...only golf matters at golf courses. The greens are horrid here. One of the worst I've seen from a course that has such a nice layout. I think the greens are a poa mix. Anyways pretty bad, weedy, and discoloring, making it such an unattractive green. A few reviewers are right. Definitely, not worth the price you pay for. Also, there's never a deal for Callippe Preserve on golfnow.com or any other golf site now, so that means full price. What? This course is always busy no matter. How? I'll never fathom. I like the course, just not enough to pay full price every time. My last full price visit here was just for by buddy because he's never played at Callippe Preserve before. He liked it, of course, but hated the greens. Fairways, bunkers, layout, club house, golf shop are all nice here and worth every dollar. However, the greens aren't worth a cent. If you do come, and on a nice day...take a breather at the club house restaurant's patio area and just enjoy the golf course view and bet on the tee shots of the people on the 10th tee with your buddies. This course has been around for about two years now, and last week I finally got around to playing it. Man, was I impressed...and I don't impress easily. This course is tucked away in the back roads of Pleasanton, up against the hills and far away from civilization. It plays quite short from the whites, but what it lacks in distance it makes up in toughness. On the front nine, the fairways are pretty decent and quite easy, but when you get on the back, challenges abound. There's a par four 270, but if you risk it and go for the green and miss, you're gonna have to add one because you'll loose it down the ravine. The par five 18th requires placement as you cross the creek twice before hitting into an elevated green. Pace of play moved pretty well; my only complaint is the condition of the greens. The grass on some of the greens was so thin, you could see the dirt underneath. Also, in the afternoon the wind could whip up and cause you to really think about your shots. The course is walkable, so get out there and enjoy. I sure will again. read more

Callippe has some amazing views. As I drove up the winding road to find the place I was taken back by the gorgeous rolling hills, majestic oaks and how the sun made everything glow. The surroundings couldn't make me feel any better about the completely disorganized event I attended. The event I showed up 3 hours early to. Then to be told they aren't ready yet. I hate sitting around when I should be working. I'm not sure who to blame the organization putting on the event or the staff of Callippe. It was unapologetic disorganization on all sides at its finest. When it came time for to set up for our tee at the golf tournament we had to wait for a golf cart to load our stuff then take it out. It took forever. Its also impossible to drive up to your respective tee box to set up. You have to use a golf cart provided by the course. Also note, there is no shade at any of the tee boxes. I forgot a pop up tent but I did have my umbrella on me. So I was good. The tournament was long. Thankfully staff was very friendly and stopped by my tee box to ask if I had to go to the bathroom and they kindly took me to closest bathroom that wasnt that close at all. I also got to see a mommy deer with two little Bambi's hanging out near my tee box. Also, a mommy turkey and a gaggle of little tiny baby turkeys. I could see booking an event like a wedding or baby shower or bridal shower would be a beautiful idea. However, the golf tournament I attended was not that great and I'm sorry the disorganization was far beyond anything Ive experienced or want to experience again. THIS REVIEW IS FOR OUR WEDDING (November 14, 2015) HELD AT CALLIPPE PRESERVE. Callippe Preserve Golf Course is a hidden gem! We searched all over the Bay Area for the perfect venue. Who knew our perfect wedding venue would be right in our hometown? The spectacular views and well-kept grounds are a plus. From the moment we met Claudia, we knew she would make our dreams come true for our special day. She is a true professional with warmth and this is reflected throughout her friendly staff. Claudia has wedding planning down to a science (catering, rentals, vendors, timelines, etc.) and her readiness to meet with us, return phone calls and emails sets our minds at ease. For example, we failed to realize in August that our outdoor evening ceremony in November would be completely in the dark because of daylight savings. Claudia called to inform us and right away, ideas were flowing on how to bring light into our ceremony space. A sunset wedding, awesome! Our guests not seeing us get married, not so awesome. Claudia recommended a florist (Yoli's Flowers) that could not have been any more in sync with our modern romantic vision. Claudia, Yoli, and my Sweets (hubby) had their own HUGE surprise for me for the ceremony. Yes ladies, I let go and trusted him with this collaboration. The day of the wedding, I walked into the most unreal space. They got me. The dynamic trio got me to a tee. Overlooking the golf course was a white tent adorned with a chandelier, white drapes, and an arbor with the most gorgeous flowers. The ceremony aisle was lined with rose petals and lit candles. Perfection! After the ceremony, the staff moved the stunning arbor to our sweetheart table while our guests made their way into the clubhouse for the cocktail hour. The coconut shrimp was a big hit! The reception space was beyond beautiful and the food was delicious. The Callippe staff did a lovely job setting the guest tables (table numbers, linens, chairs, seat covers, flowers, etc). Claudia made sure to adhere to the timeline and created a memorable evening for us. We danced our hearts out and enjoyed every minute. I cannot thank Claudia and her staff enough for all their hard work behind the scenes. It did not go unnoticed. If there were any hiccups on the day of the wedding, I did not know of them; we were truly guests that day. BEST DAY EVER! PLEASE READ CONS AT END!! Course is beautiful and in great condition. Carts are comfortable and hi-tech with built in screens with GPS. Mine wasn't turned on and I couldn't figure out how to get it to work, but that may have been because of covid-19 new rules, or maybe I'm just not smart. Price is higher than most, but for good reason, the course is better than most. Layout is very thought out with fairways bunkers placed in all the right places to challenge your decisions. Greens were near perfect. Some par 3's had excessive unfixed divots. Lots of wildlife around the course. Had a deer standing less that 20 feet from me as I was teeing off 12. Cons: A few holes don't allow carts to enter fairways. So if you find yourself on opposite side of fairway than the cart path, be prepared to take some clubs with you for a walk. Tee times are spread out fine but people are teeing off too early which causes the course to get backed up. If everyone stuck to their tee times instead of hitting as soon as they know they won't hit the guy in front of them, they wouldn't spend the whole round waiting. GROUNDS CREW RUINED MY ROUND! The same 2 guys were raking green side bunkers and yelling back and fourth to each other while I'm chipping and putting on 10th. As I finish the hole, so do they. I move to 11 and so do they. 10,11,12,13,14,15,16. That's 7 consecutive holes they followed me. Never turning off their loud carts, yelling at each other the whole time. One of them was even taking phone calls on the side of the green while I'm putting saying "what up my N*****". These are things that customers shouldn't have to deal with. Grounds crew has to understand golf etiquette. And I think it goes without saying that employees shouldn't be saying stuff like that. Let alone at work, loud enough for customers to hear. Unacceptable. Without this final con, I would have given them 5 stars! read more

Tucked away in Pleasanton, Callippe is a beautiful, fun public course that will keep you on your toes! Carry your clubs, get a little more of a workout and enjoy the beautiful fresh air away from busy streets and buildings. I grew up playing at Castlewood Country Club so that what I knew of GCs. When I played golf for CVHS, that was my first real taste of many public courses around the bay and since then, I think Callippe is one of the best courses out here! I think it's even better than Castlewood because it's fun, clean, greens are good and .. you don't have the rules of a country club :) Lots of preserve areas where you can't step in to get your ball even if you can see it. If you play here a lot, get one of those ball grabber things ..but none of us ever mishit and go there right? Bunkers are sometimes hard but overall, it's pretty good..but none of us ever mishit and go into the bunker right? RIGHT! Las Positas is cheaper but it shows and I don't like how it runs right along the freeway. I rode once and the carts have GPS, kinda cool but I try not to rely on those things. Front 9 is easy, make your birdies because the back 9 takes a little more effort and you'll be more tired if you're carrying your clubs. If I remember correctly, all par 4s are reachable in 2 (from white tees), the longest being just over 400 yards. Fun and well maintained, Callippe Preserve is a great course! Course layout wise, this is actually my favorite course in the tri-valley. The back 9 is so much fun and the design is great. The tees you choose to play from can really change the difficulty level. My issue with Callippe is the way tee times are scheduled. They need to be spread out more. I've never played a round in the 4-4:30 range. You better be ready to spend 5+ hours there which is just unacceptable. It's a simple fix, just spread the start times out by a few more minutes. read more

Booked a tee time here the other day only 15 min prior to the time. Shortly my buddy and I realized that we weren't going to be able to make it in time. We contacted the pro shop and let them know that we might be late, they informed us that they would not be able to accommodate us. I then asked the gentleman to cancel my tee time. To which he responded "we can't actually cancel GOlfNow tee times from our side, but it does not look like you have been charged anything yet. And then he assured me that I wouldn't be charged for the tee time we would not be arriving in time for. Feeling at ease after my conversation, my buddy and o continued on with our day. Less than an hour later, I receive an email from GOlfNow. Turns out that someone at the golf course submitted us both as no shows. They then contacted GOlfNow and requested that we be charged for our tee time. Whelp, to my surprise, I found a charge for $170 on my card. Wow, thanks Callippe!!! What excellent customer service. Now I'm stuck between GOlfNow and callippe trying to get my money back. Not sure I'll be playing this course any time soon, if ever again. For reference, the course itself deserves 4-5 stars. But this experience will not have me wanting to play here in the future. I have never had an experience like this with any course in any state I've played in. And this has definitely left a sour taste. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. This is such a great course but they cannot seem to manage the play at all. I have played here several times and each round has taken 5hrs plus. Today's round was 5hrs and 15 min and I didn't even finish the 18th hole. You can call, you can complain, doesn't matter they just kind of shrug their shoulders and say sorry that's the way it is. Unfortunately this will be my last round here and the other 30 people I know that play golf will no longer play here either until they fix their issues and can somehow show that they have. Totally unacceptable management that cannot run a course. read more

Great golf. Course is in good shape. We be played here a few times and always had a good experience. This past Sunday was very very very backed up with walkers and young golfers. I'm excited to see the next generation out there but it would be helpful to group them in groups of 4 not sets of two or one. This really slows things down. That's my only criticism. Organize your groups a little better. We made the most of it. We got stuck at hole 4 there was a set of two and then two singles. Thankfully the singles sounded like they were going to pair up. We decided to go back to a hole since nobody was behind us. It took almost 3 hours to get in 9 holes. But $29 was a good deal read more

Came out here to check out a new course and it was very nice. Lots of rolling fairways and greens made it challenging. 130 rating from the blue tees. All fairway grass was well maintained but the greens were just plugged. Probably have to come back when the greens are pristine in a couple weeks from today (4/9/15). Front 9 played easier than the back 9 which had longer Par 5's and OB sections. Driving range was very close to the Club house and 1st tee. Marshals kept a nice pace the whole time. I will be back for seconds in two weeks for sure. read more

Callipee has the potential to be a Gresham course but they need to take better care of the course. My major beef is hike 17. There is a trap short of the green and on the right side of the fairway. My ball went into the trap and I hit it out behind my ball embedded in the 'sand' was a rock. This rock chipped my wedge as I hit my ball. I looked around and the trap was full of rocks just below the sand line. This is not what I expect from a $100+ golf course. Never going back read more

Been playing this course for the past couple year satisfied with the beautiful looks and course condition, until today. Showed up an hour early, paid the holiday rate including a medium bucket. Went to the range to find out the ball machine was empty! Really, no range balls? This was a first for me in 18-years of golfing. Fast forward to the round. After finally getting warmed up after a few holes, I noticed some of the bunkers were hideous, literally hideous. No sand, just fissure of dirt with what appeared to be sump pump holes. No attempt to clean-up, rake, etc. It's not like it rained yesterday, last rain was a week ago. Thanks Callippe for charging me and the wife to warm up without being able to warm up and playing a course worst than a defunct muni course at 10 times the cost. read more

We wanted to give the entire event staff at Callippe Preserve a shout out for the wonderful rehearsal dinner for our son and bride. Carissa and Devony were professional, flexible and helpful in the planning of this dinner. The groomsmen enjoyed a coordinated round of golf before the rehearsal. The staff hustled to set up the room with our family as we customized and decorated the room. The room looked lovely and the staff were attentive to our guests needs. Even though the room is open ended on one side, it was warm with stunning views before sunset. Afterward the doors were closed and the heaters came on, everyone was comfortable! The food did not disappoint, our family/friends commented on how yummy everything was. During the entire event, Carissa stayed and kept a watchful eye and a ready hand.... also want to recognize Jordan who was also very adept and helpful. read more

My advice would be to do this all the time. Also, no clue why they don't allow carts on #1, #10, and #18. If they let carts on the fairways they could cut another 10+ minutes off pace of play. Callippe Preserve sounded like a nice spot to play, so we drove an hour to get there and were not disappointed. Awesome scenery all around. Tee boxes, fairways and greens all very good. Staff was friendly. Food was good and reasonably priced. Golf fees appropriate, and IMO a good value. Course was a combination of challenging and not so challenging holes. For public golf in the Bay area for the price, I just do not think you can beat Callippe Preserve at this time: Course Design A-: Hilly, interesting, challenging and from the tips particularly difficult. Some forced carries, some water, plenty of sand (I found much of it) both fairway and green-side, holes of differing types, some long, some short and strategic, some long and strategic. Front 9 design good but nothing special, #9 perhaps the best of the bunch. Back 9 is special, almost every hole unique and of interest, and the flow, which initially seems to run back-and-forth parallel up a steep hillside, actually uses dramatic changes in the elevation to spice up the flow as well as many holes' individual design. Greens were varied, relatively large, many levels, plenty of break. Uphill into the wind, you almost should use a driver instead of a putter. And some great views, particularly from the back 9. Conditions B+: A little dried out at the edges but the rough was deep in many areas, was able to play the ball down all but twice (a few areas had been recently aerated), tees is very good shape - from tee to green probably as good as many private courses. Greens were consistent, but maybe the one weak spot, not really true, and it seemed of a type of grass that would hold up against the constant hot sun, wind and public course overuse, but not private course or good resort course quality. I bet if they wanted though, they could turn them into excellent condition if they cut back play, added some water, and rolled assiduously for a few days. Sand a little firm/muddy in some traps, fluffy in others, somewhat inconsistent, but there was sand at least! Service B+: Generally helpful, friendly, a balance of local feel and professional feel, and there was plenty of help available. Food/Beverage B: Big inside area (with AC) for food/drink, with a smallish but decent bar, and also a screened in huge outside area. We only tried a little of the food and it was sort of pub style. Window for quick service was very effective, big hot dogs, fast, friendly service, perfect for that quick bite before the 10th hole or even before you tee off. There was a food/drink cart that came around with good frequency, decent service, choice and price. This was WAY better than practically any public course, just lacked a little of that extra plushness you get at some resorts and private courses. Will try a serious lunch next time, maybe this rating could go up to B+. Practice areas TBD but at least a B: Didn't have time to use driving range, so do not know if it is mats or grass or both, but there was one, and also a good sized putting green that actually putted just like the greens on the course! Big kudos for this, how many times have you practiced putting on the practice green and then found the actual green utterly different? Value A: Yes, it is out in the edges of the east bay unless you happen to live in Pleasanton. But it was, from what I can tell, built for the local residents (there is a discount). For under $60 including cart for mid-week, early afternoon there is no better value that I have seen. If you are an eclub member at Half Moon Bay you can get out with cart on the Ocean Course after 2pm for around $60, maybe that beats Callippe. But this was the normal Callippe price, no special deal, and standard rate at HMB is $150 (!). read more

I love the course but playing here yesterday left a bad taste in my mouth. The friends and I made a golf day out of a Monday teeing off at 730am. Upon finishing up, we wanted to do a replay and this is where the bad taste came in. We finished our round at 1130 and they told us that we wouldn't be able to do a 2nd round till around 130pm. But if we wanted to pay full price they'd let us out asap. WTH?!? soooo...you have golfers wanting to play the course again with available tee times but instead make them wait two hours hoping that others would MAYBE pay full price? Talk about killing the spirit of golf in the interest of making more dough. Other courses would love to have our 2nd round business and would even help us get a 2nd round in before the day ended. Callippe was not one of those courses. I'll spend my time and money elsewhere. read more

I'm pretty crazy about golf and have played at many of the public courses in the greater Bay Area... so my review of Callippe Preserve is relative to those public courses. The golf course, of course, is the primary reason you're probably even interested in reading this review... but, in case you're more interested in knowing about their driving range, wedding/banquet services, skip this review now. My review is going to be limited to just the golf course as that's the only components of this facility that I used. I'd say Callippe Preserve has got to be on my Top-5 list of Bay Area public golf courses. Here's why... 1. The course condition -- This course is well maintained and the greens roll true. The sand bunkers are very well carved and seems to have quality sand... if you've played at enough public golf courses like I have, you'll know what I'm talking about here. 2. The challenge -- If you play from the black or blue tees, this course provides a pretty good challenge. It's relatively slopey (USGA rated 133 for black tees and 130 for blue tees) but not to the point where you're teeing off into the blind (like Chabot in Oakland or Summitpointe in Milpitas). It has its fair share of dog legs, uphill/downhill holes, fairway bunkers, and greenside bunkers. 3. The weather -- Being nested in Pleasanton, Callippe Preserve enjoys nice, warm weather (about 10 degrees warmer than San Francisco on an average summer day). The only slight drawback is that Callippe Preserver is ever slightly higher in price than many of the other public courses in the Bay Area but remember, it does cost money to keep a course well maintained. Overall, I would highly recommend this golf course to anyone who loves golf. read more

This was the WORST golf experience of my life. You might not think that customer service is a big part of the golf game and I have to say visit here and you will know just how much it can effect you. They messed up my tee time- split the groups wrong and messed up our tournament. Not only that but they were constantly driving through saying we needed to speed up the pace.... we were 18 min ahead of schedule each time. Constantly rushed and staff was not kind. They had a very snooty attitude that they have no right to have. I have golfed at some of the worlds best courses and NEVER been treated so poorly. I can guarantee that my group of people will NEVER be seen here again. Good luck to anyone who goes here. You would think that a new course would do its best to put their best foot forward... that didn't happen and the course itself wasn't enough to make up for it. Hidden in the hills of Pleasanton surrounded by huge houses and horse ranches. This course simply didn't disappoint. Lot of elevation changes but the course is right in front of you. Score well on the front because the back nine gets tighter. Good shots are rewarded and bad shots well, don't hit those. I'm a walker but would recommend a cart. read more

This golf course will challenge your entire game (or the lack of). :) Your drives need to be straighter than usual because if they deviate from your target, you will lose your ball. Your approach shots need to be accurate. Your chipping has to be almost perfect. And even if you hit a green in regulation, the greens are ridiculously tricky. There never seems to be a flat lie on the green, so putting can get painful very quickly. :) So why do I give this golf course a 4 star? Well, it's because it's a well maintained course that you will want to return again because you know that you can do better the next time around. By far, it's one of the most challenging courses in the area (especially the last 3 holes). Also, this course will give you a workout especially if you walk the course, so free cardio as you're playing golf! :) And lastly, the views from this golf course are beautiful. So even if it's not your day, just look around and enjoy the California weather and scenery. It's worth it! After practicing my entire game, especially my putting and chipping, I'm sure I'll return here shortly. So check it out, seriously! By the way, they serve one of the best BLT sandwiches. They were a little slow in finishing my BLT at the turn, so one of the servers drove to the 10th fairway to give me the BLT. Now that's customer service. read more

** This review is for the Event Space & In-House Catering ** After much difficulty we found this rental space for our 4 yo birthday. A spacious site that accommodates about 120 was an ideal setup for our party of 75. Charissa, the food & beverages manager, was very understanding and accommodating with our requests (as my better half is very particular about her choice). I'd like to review based on various aspects of the arrangement. Booking Appointments: Charissa was who we contacted during our lookout for a event space and during our first meet she made the whole meeting comfortable by answering lotta questions and also by being open to requests right off. Although this place gets busy for event space the winter timeframe helped us with an open slot. We knew at the first look that this was the space we wanted but it was a matter of arriving at a good deal. The moment the space was confirmed we let her know wat we had in mind in terms of the arrangement, the layout we thought of (since this was a Bollywood Dance Party) and Charissa threw in her ideas as well which made the event a glorious evening. Event Space: We setup a dance floor that covered the open entry way (No doors or drapes to this entry way) and let the guests enter through the restaurant entrance. Since this was in the evening there were no guests at the restaurant itself which worked in our favor. The heating system (plenty of ceiling heaters, at least 10 of them) within the space can really get warm, so nothing to worry about with the entrance being open. We shut the bar window and placed the projector screen there for the kids to view the video and dance to. Catering: Although we went in with the idea of catering from elsewhere, we could strike a good deal only if we catered with Callippe, hence we went with them. And it turned out to be a good option we picked. The catering was organized unlike most other birthday parties we have attended so far, cos its only CHAOS with a bunch of 4 yo's running around. Since it was kids event, we wanted kid-friendly snacks and food such as Fruits, Cheese & Crackers, Cheese-stix & Pasta being some of the main orders. ** Fruit Platter was plenty and good to get started as the guests arrived in the evening. ** Cheese & Crackers - plenty of options in the cheese platter to choose from. ** Cheese-Stix - I guess this was a sure hit among the kids, with Marinara dips the kids could munch quickly and hit the dance floor where the event was centered towards. ** Pasta, as Entree, was exactly wat the guests wanted to have to keep complete the plate. The pasta was well-done, tender and Alfredo sauce was rich to give that taste buds wanting with each bite. Very impressed. ** Caesar Salad, was just rightly dressed. The staff attending that night were very courteous and were attentive to all our needs. We planned the timing of appetizers and dinner beforehand, and it was served on time and food was warm all throughout. They also helped us setup the S'mores bar, which was a big hit among the kids. Bar: With the bar open just outside the event space gave the grown-ups an option to divert their attention a bit from the tiny tots. Since this was an event after dark, the crowd did not have the option to experience the view which is priceless. Overlooking the golf course and the hills being the perfect backdrop. Most guests commented well on the drive upto this secluded venue, which was ideal for a Bollywood Dance night, with loud music. In all, I guess the event space is ideal for a party ranging between 70 - 130 heads. It was a special evening for us and could not have been achieved without Callippe. read more

I have bought gift certificates here many time for my brother. The prices are very reasosonable for the area and the course is gorgeous. The customer service, especially with Mr. Debone is fantastic. It's one of my brothers favorite spots. read more

My friend booked a party here on a really hot day. The event was in the covered patio area with doors opened with beautiful views. Nice breezes helped keep the heat away. The layout of the table, buffet, drinks and desserts was wonderfully done. The buffet food was outstanding as were the staff and the coordinator who handled everything. Plagued by the same pace of play demons that haunt most Bay Area courses (aka 36+ handicappers with no rangers telling them to pick up), Callippe is nonetheless "better than most." The greens are quite smooth but are slower than they look like they should be. Credit the developers for being willing to build some unique holes (11 and 12 in particular). Good players will probably find the course relatively easy, especially since you only need driver on about four holes (none on the back nine). read more
