Empanada bowl
Adrian T.

This was my second time trying food from this food truck, and it did not disappoint. I had the buffalo chicken empanada and the beef and cheese empanada--both were outstanding. The crust was soft with just the right amount of crunch, and each empanada was packed with flavor. Easily the best empanadas I've had in the area. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the cooking area was clean. I definitely recommend giving this place a try!

This is my fav food truck and they just opened a storefront this week! I could eat their empanadas everyday. They are by far the best I've ever had. My fav is the lobster/crab and buffalo chicken. I also love the pork bowl. The meat is so tender and flavorful. I can tell they put a lot of effort into the Spanish rice as well. Everything here is made with love. The owners and employees are awesome. This is a must try!

The parking lot is often full, so I'd looked forward to stopping in. The ordering set-up wasn't so different from their original store. A selection of around 6-8 different savory and sweet hand pies are in a glass case on the counter. There are vegan, gluten-free, etc. options, which is great. There's a fresh locally-sourced salad in a small clamshell that you can add, as well as cold bottled drinks. You order your pies and café beverages and take a seat. The pies are not reheated, they go right from the case to your plate, somewhat disappointing. The dining room is half restaurant half lounge, a bit chaotic but cozy. The pies are good, but not generous. Sweet ones are around $5 and the savory are between $6-7, almost $8 each for some. As a result of the cost, we only got three of them for the two of us. They are on the smaller side..Our shared salad was really good, but I hated the plastic clamshell aspect of it, the plastic waste. The café drinks were good, a chai and a latte. Overall, we left feeling disappointed that we had spent $48 including tip on food that we ate in 10 minutes and that left us still hungry. I had hoped that they would have "hand pie combo-plates" with, say, two-three pies, a side and maybe a salad. That would've been filling. The simple ingredients and the (likely) advanced preparation involved in making hand pies with inexpensive ingredients makes the high cost and the small selection and serving size hard to understand. I guess my plan for next time is to focus on the café drinks and cozy vibes and not to go in hungry.

I ordered the garlic rice and wings (bourbon sauce), mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes. I was excited because I had read good things on this very site. However, I was a bit disappointed. The star of the meal was the garlic rice which was admittedly delicious- would certainly get this again. The wings were also okay. I would go with a different sauce next time, and for anyone wondering they are breaded wings. The mac and cheese was not good. Incredibly bland and not warm. Would not recommend. The fried green tomatoes weren't very crispy by the time I got them home and ate them, which is surprising because they ripped vent holes in the styrofoam container to combat this. Not inedible, just not very good. Overall was pretty disappointed with my experience, definitely willing to go back though, so hopefully it changes!

I hope to try their other ones. I tried the chicken tender sub tonight. It was really good. My only complaint is they forgot the bacon, which would've made it even better. The tenders seem homemade. Very fresh.

This place has some of the absolute best empanadas I've ever had. Beef or chicken, both are delicious. They're large and honestly could be a meal by themselves. Fresh made, tender juicy meat inside, perfectly crisp, flaky, tender dough outside. Like a good amount of other city Spanish eateries, they serve mostly combo plates, where you get a choice of rice, beans and a meat. The chicken stew and fried pork are delicious. The rice and beans are a tad bland, but nothing some Cholulas doesn't fix. Their sweet fried plantains are delicious too. Cheap prices. You can get a medium or large combo plate and the way they load you up on food, a medium will probably last you two meals. Two medium combos, 4 empanadas and an order of plantains cost me just $30 today and the wife and I will get at least 2 meals each out of it. I lived around the corner from the building Jandy is in for the first 21 years of my life. It's in a rough neighborhood for sure, which I feel probably may turn off people not from the city to stopping in, but anytime I've been in, the people who work there and patrons have been nothing but friendly, so I recommend everyone give them a try if in the neighborhood.
