The vegan tempeh pie was really tasty! The spanakopita was good too. Would love to give it a higher rating but they were pretty small and it was 12$ for two.

Mama Said serves freshly made pies. I went with the Jamaica Beef Patty and really enjoyed it. The pie crust was flaky and the filling was delicious and full of flavor. When I went, they also had a potato and cheese pie, a mussel one, and a knish.each pie is about $4-$5. There is metered street parking. The parking lot behind Mama is free to park on weekends only.

"Mama Said" pies are on! OMG, had these at the Farmers Market, I almost missed them at the very end of the market. Sooo glad I didn't! We had the Japanese Beef Curry, the Poblano and the spanakopita. All were delicious! I've seen the positive reviews for the others and so I'll post one for the spanakopita. This beautiful buttery and flaky crust houses the perfect dollop of light cheese, spinach and aromatic fresh dill. There's a hint of lemon that balances it all out and gives it that je ne sais quoi! Good fast food; Eat 'em up!

Delicious hand pies! Crust was really flaky and the filling (we got potato and cheddar) was perfect. Can't wait to try other flavors.

I came and ordered from Mama Said Hand Pies on a whim but found the Pumpkin Pasty to be rather disappointing. The pumpkin filling in the interior tasted very artificially pumpkin flavored and had a weird spice that was overpowering the pumpkin flavor. But I did think that the outer pastry portion was yummy! It was slightly dense but was also flaky and buttery. I feel like maybe the pumpkin pasty wasn't the best choice, but maybe their other fillings (savory or sweet) could potentially be better! Also the pastry could have tasted better warm (but the cashier didn't offer this). I really love their small mom-and-pop shop vibe and found the business concept and store interior to be super cute so I really wanted to like the pasty, but it wasn't all that great. If you want to come maybe order a safer/more popular filling!

Mama Said Hand Pies is a treasure in Ithaca! Delicious vegan, vegetarian and meat hand pies. We selected one of each pie on the menu and were incredibly impressed by the sweet and savory pastries. My favorite was the NYS cheddar and potato pie. The whipped potatoes were creamy and the cheddar was sharp and flavorful. The crust was buttery, flakey and delicious. We called the order in ahead of time and the employee who explained the menu options was extremely helpful and went into detail about the diverse menu items they had on offer. The order was ready when I arrived, all the employees had masks in and the customers were safely social distancing. We are looking forward to returning here in the future! Next time we are in Ithaca we will plan to bring a cooler to purchase some of their frozen pies to enjoy at home. Photo from left to right, a blackberry pie, blueberry gallette, NYS cheddar and potato pie, a puff pastry with roasted veggies, fresh pesto and baby tomatoes, Japanese beef curry pie, kale and chickpea pocket, vegan Irish Knish, and a spanakopita hand pie.

Amazing pie crust + creative fillings = a perfect meal! Both their savory and sweet hand pies are delicious.

Tasty treats but $6 for a single 3 bite empanada is quite over priced. I would order from them often if the price were fair.

The Japanese curry always yummy, but the spanakopita is hands down the best. The blueberry hand pie was also delicious

The coffee is also delicious and didn't even need a flavor added. The man taking our orders the first day was also incredibly kind and you could tell he just enjoyed his job, or at least was happy to be there. There's also a mini shop here basically. There's fresh bread and prepackaged meals here like Shepards pie and fruits and veggies. There also was plenty of cute merch and I left with two designs. Two things that I didn't like. Ordering was a bit chaotic. There are labeled areas that show where to order what, but if it's your first time in it can feel overwhelming and you might be wandering a bit figuring it out. I wish it could all be ordered at one spot, not like it's a food hall. I understand that this probably does work the best for them though and is most likely pretty easy for ordering if you're a local. Lastly, I had an issue with a woman working the second day. They have a big menu and I was looking at it above her head while ordering. She was fine while I was talking, but stopped me when I went to walk away. She said "You know, you really need to face people while you're talking to them." What! So awkward and weird. That's the main reason I took one star off because it caused me not to go back again. Very rude and felt like a mini lecture for no reason.

This visit we got coffee, breakfast sandwiches and various baked goods. The restaurant was busy and hopping with activity on a Sunday morning around 9AM. The parking lot was full but there was street parking around the business. There was also plenty of seating for us to find some room to eat in comfort. You order food at one counter but you pay at the other counter? All food is delivered to the "pay" counter. Service was fast, even with the crowd, the breakfast sandwiches were delicious, the coffee was dark (which we love) and the baked goods didn't last long. We got a cinnamon coffee cake and a loaf of bread that were huge hits. "Baked in Ithaca" - what a slogan!

Not the best bread I've ever had but pretty good. Also got the patatas bravas which for me was my favorite dish. Super flavorful. We got two dishes the Spring cavatelli and the moosewood burger. The burger was really good but the pasta is where I could see why some people threw around the word bland. I don't want to say it was bad, it just was very light and didn't have a rich flavor like most pasta dishes. We got the matcha panna cotta to go which was also pretty good. Overall I think it just depends on the dish you get but I was fully expecting straight up bland food based on other reviews but that wasn't the case. The cavatelli could use a little work though. Overall it was nice.

We also tried the thai curry, burrata, peach salad. The peaches were not ripe, but the crunch was a nice textural component. Burrata and curry were fine. I wish the curry was spicier. I liked the thin ribbons of cucumber in the burrata dish though. Maybe I am being too harsh... I had rather high expectations coming into Moosewood, and the food wasn't bad per se, but nothing really wowed me. I would eat here again, but I wouldn't seek it out.
