The shop also offers cold and hot drinks, and the girl behind the counter was baking items as I was perusing so you could smell the delicious baked goods!

She emailed me a summary of the order we discussed, but no PayPal link. I emailed her when I got home to ask about the link to pay for the tasting and the address to mail her check to. She never responded. I followed up two more times and have never heard back. She completely ghosted us. No explanation. None of my attempts to contact her were returned. We drove over 2 hours that day to be able to meet with her for the tasting just to have her disappear. I'm glad she didn't take my money and disappear, however, this is inexcusable. I would never recommend her to friend because I have no reason to trust that she will follow through. I do remember that she mentioned during our meeting that I should get the deposit to her quickly because another person recently inquired about the same wedding date. My best guess is that she got a more expensive order and ditched us. Either way, that is terrible business etiquette. Not only did I waste my time driving to meet her, but also waiting on her response when she never intended to fulfill my order in the first place. If you're looking to hire a baker, do yourself a favor and keep looking. I'm sure there are many more trustworthy ones.

The interior is the same as always, while the available flavors are unpredictable, but a taste makes everything right in the world. Their flavor menu has been updated to indicate which flavors contain gluten and which ones don't. They also now have a protocol for those with strict gluten allergies. This time it was spring, so they didn't have my favorite Jalepeno Popper this time around. But they did have Lavender. For the second and third scoops we got Pistachio, followed by Butter Pecan. As a reminder, they use 14 percent buttermilk, and their ice cream emphasizes FLAVOR over sugar. Despite the high fat content, their ice cream doesn't feel heavy while you're eating it. Take that as a warning, since you might feel it after you consume too much. The Lavender was fantastically floral. The Pistachio was like eating Pistachios. Each flavor is exactly as described. Previously, I had also gotten my coworkers ice cream from here several years prior. Hand-packed into pints, you'll need a serious amount of self-control to avoid finishing them in a single sitting. They've also opened up a location in DeWitt Mall on the Seneca Street side of the commons.

Hollenbeck's is my go to for cider and donuts in the fall…read more The line is almost always out the door in the fall so be prepared to wait. While you wait you can select a peck or bushel of apples, or maybe send a scout out to the baked goods and fudges, or watch the old cider press in action. When you reach the donuts you can pick from powered sugar, cinnamon powdered sugar, or plain. Personally I think plain is the best because they are hot, crispy, pillowy delights. There is a limit in that you can only buy 4 dozen donuts per person. The cider itself fresh pressed right before your eyes. Two people work together to layer the mash and wood pallets on a very old and incredible press. The cider is well filter and not as sweet as other ciders but very good! One note: you cannot buy cups of the cider- you have to buy a half gallon or gallon and then open it outside. On the pie side you can actively see and smell the pies being made. If you would like a pie for a special occasion you might want to call ahead to reserve one as they sell FAST. In the cold cases on the pie side is also where the cheese curds, summer sausage, and some meets such as elk and lamb are available. The great thing is the baked goods are available all year, so Hollenbeck's is a great stop even in the spring and summer. Also of note it smells like pressed apples ALL YEAR! After not being there for a while, this was legitimately my first stop on campus when visiting. Went straight from the airport and got some scoops. Even on days when the temperature dipped below zero, I found myself wanting ice cream from Dairy Bar when I was a student. Years later, I'm happy to say that the flavors were still as good as I hoped. There are times when nostalgia can carry or elevate a memory of something, and luckily, nostalgia aside, I very much enjoyed my ice cream here. Pro tip for those who might not know: they serve limited flavors of the same Cornell-made ice cream in dining halls. They also serve it during the buffets at Statler Hotel. I love the different flavors, and would eat it at any time of day.
