With so many great options in Berkeley, this place just isn't it. The restaurant itself was not clean, had a swarm of flies, and even had unhoused individuals sitting in the dining room. I ordered the garlic noodles and onion rings. The garlic noodles were bland and flavorless, and the onion rings were oily and heavy. None of my coworkers enjoyed their food either, and we all agreed we would not be returning. This is a good sports bar on Telegraph in Berkeley to chill at for drinks and food. I came Saturday night around 9 pm with 3 others. It wasn't too crowded initially, so we could take our pick of seating. It really picked up soon after when the Cal football game ended, and folks flocked here for post-game snacks and drinks. I already had dinner but got some garlic parmesan fries ($4.75) and a mocktail called Something Fruity ($6) to drink. Both were good. The space is massive with two floors. I am leaving this one star rating not because of the drinks/food quality but for MANAGEMENT. I go here often and I noticed that this place is lacking in employees. The poor bartender (didn't get his name) was working on all the drinks on Taco Tuesday (probably the busiest night of the week). There were many people in a long line and he was working by himself nonstop. This is unacceptable. Management needs to do better than this! Besides not having an extra hand/second bartender to help him, there was also NO BOUNCER. Anybody could go in. With that, he had an ADDITIONAL job to check IDs. That is evil. Was here for a private party in their downstairs level and tried a sampling of food and drinks, all of which DID NOT disappoint. Their Black Mamba cocktail with mezcal, was delicious and different (highly recommend) and the Moscow Mule w ginger, was refreshing and light. The pizzas were really good, so good, I usually don't eat the crust but I ate the crust last night at Cali's (yes, yes, my East Coast raised husband gives me grief all the time). You can ask for side dips for crust too. We had a platter of fries, chicken nuggets, fried ravioli, and fried pickles (OMG a SLEEPER HIT - really yummy), that had ranch, marinara, guacamole, and something spicy I didn't try (see pic). We were there with a gaggle of kids and all the kids enjoyed the food, large space and there is a Connect 4 Game, Ring Toss, and Corn Hole Game. The servers kept the food coming and the area clean. Bathrooms are fun, new, and clean with Ben Franklin bills on the floor of the ladies room which has 3 stalls. Appreciate bars and establishments that have more than 2 toilets. We went in for lunch for an employee's birthday. We ordered a 13" pizza, BLT, sodas and chicken strips. We ordered at the kiosk so there was minimal interaction with our to be server. The server brought the drinks a few minutes after ordering. Food arrived about 15 minutes later which was good as we were probably there first at lunch and the only ones. The pizza was a 7/10. It was pretty good. Nice flavored cheese and crust. The pepperoni's were a bit on the greasy side as the oil kind of pooled in them. Not a big deal as I just used a napkin to dab them. The pie could have used a bit more sauce. It felt just a little too light. The crush could have been a bit more crisp or solid. It was on the floppy side. Our coworker enjoyed the BLT and fries. The chicken strips were pretty bad. They were dry and bland. It's like they were just raw and thrown in the fryer for a few minutes. No coating, no seasoning just dry strips of chicken. Cali's in Berkeley truly blessed my family this Thanksgiving. If it wasn't for their generosity and kindness our Thanksgiving wouldn't have been same. My family was gifted a Thanksgiving meal and it came at a time we truly needed it. The week prior to receiving this amazing meal our family was on the news about food insecurity. I'm deeply grateful for the love and community spirit they showed my family. We weren't just gifted food it was the entire meal down to the smallest details like the turkey was brined and stuffed with butter and herbs, the green beans had loads of Parmesan cheese and please know that is not a complaint the cheese to green bean ratio was perfect, the gravy was so flavorful and everything was incredibly fresh. It was the best turkey I had ever had. The meal was incredible. The portions were truly family size. It was a very thoughtful meal that felt very elegant. It even came with broth to moisten everything. It fed a family of 7 and everyone had left overs. I can't forget to mention it came with a huge pumpkin pie and instructions on how to reheat everything properly, and it was extremely easy to bake. This made our thanksgiving actually filled with fun and as the host I wasn't stressed at all, dinner was easy and delicious. It was the best Thanksgiving we've had in quite some time. First time being at this restaurant for my coworker's birthday. I ordered a BLT, which was decent. The fries were a little dry and wish they had more sauce options then ketchup. We were the only ones in the whole place at 11:30 on a Tuesday and the service still felt a bit slow. My coworkers ordered a pizza that looked pretty good, but they said it could have been better with more sauce. All in all it was an okay enough experience. Went for lunch today. Love that they open at 11:00am! The reason they deserve 5 stars from our experience is the food is priced correctly for what you get. I got a fried chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got the chimichurri steak sandwich, each rang up at $12, added fries to one sandwich for $3.50. Both of the sandwiches were really good. I don't usually get fried chicken sandwiches that are made with thigh bc I don't care for dark meat, well this one was great. Thin enough that it was cooked through with no greasy/fatty mouth feel, the potato bun was also a stand out, only note is I would have liked more jalapeno. The chimichurri steak sandwich was a real surprise to see on the menu, and it was absolutely delicious. I would guess that they made the bread from their pizza dough, it says house made focaccia, whatever it is it's really good. We will be back to try their pizza very soon and hope it's great as well! read more

do you like your restaraunts and bars to be screaming loud? if so, you'll be quite pleased with cali's because it is loud, loud, loud. i was the only customer present for a few minutes, and the sound system was cranked all the way up for some reason. then, when other customers joined the fray, they were already halfway lit and were screaming to make themselves heard as they made their way to the bar. i honestly do not understand the business model, but whether i understand or not is beside the point; they do loud and you should know this before going here. ahem. a few of other points, in my usual dulcet tones at a reasonable volume: 1) the food's okay, but it's on the pricier side. 2) drink prices are about par. it was still morning when i went in, so i didn't partake, but i got a good look at their menu and pricing. 3) the people who worked there seemed nice, but i couldn't actually hear what they were saying to me because it was extra super loud. all said, the total star count comes to 3, rounded to 2 because berkeley. read more

This place is usually pretty dead unless there's a big game on. I'm not a huge drinker but the times I've gone the drinks were good. I Can't judge price cause I don't buy a lot of drinks. A friend and I ordered Callie's fries which doesn't have the price disclosed on the menu but came out to be about $16. The portion was OK for being a sports bar, but the food was pretty atrocious. The description was fries with a mac & cheese sauce and bacon. While the fries did have a lot of bacon the "mac & cheese sauce" was very clearly just slices of American cheese half melted. We decided to try this new place for lunch. We arrived around 2pm and the place was empty, which is expected since people are still finding out about it. You can order on the kiosks or at the register. The workers were very nice and took care of all our needs. We decided to sit outside in the back as the music was really loud inside and we had to yell to talk to each other. As far as the food goes, everything was ready relatively quickly. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, the shroom burger and two cokes. Everything tasted good! I think this place is gonna be a hit for the night life as there was a full bar upstairs as well as lounge seating, neon signs, and possibly a dance floor downstairs.
