The buffalo wings were meaty and saucy. Couldn't have asked for much more. Normally served with ranch or blue plus celery, but they can do carrots instead. The servers were super nice. Very spacious spot with a bar and tons of TVs that would be perfect for a Cal game. They only had 1/2 of the seating area open when I visited, and it was plenty. The menu is mostly filled with burgers, sandwiches and salads, plus a pizookie that looks amazing.

Oh wow this place it's amazing, I always used to come on Wednesdays with my friends we love the lagers and IPS from her they also have a great food menu but honestly the garlic fries are a boom they really really great, the food in their menu it is just fabulous flavors even though is a great place for for the students near Berkeley it is pretty easy to have a table.

We came here after the Cal Game we arrived around 4:30 for an early dinner. We are not students. We are in 50's and it was a good happening environment. This was our first time here. We picked this place because it had a crowed inside. Mostly college students. The Thai place was empty so we voted for the place with other people in it. We snagged a 2 person booth in the 2nd room. As time progressed the place filled up, to the point of there were no more tables for all the people coming in. They have large tables where different groups can sit together and they did. Every table shared the table with at one other groups. It's just the way it is and everyone is ok with it. They have TVs up around the room. There were 4 TVs in the 2nd room showing the games. We were there on Saturday night so college football filled the screens. Ordering is via a QR code at your table. You can't switch tables once you order. One couple did and they were lucky and no one sat in there old table so they were able to pick up there food from there original table. I'm skeptical of using a QR code for ordering, but it was easy and a success. And fast. Service was really fast even with it being packed. My husband had Internet so it worked out perfect. My internet was hit and miss, so good thing we weren't relaying on me. We ordered the smash burger with fries. It's a little spicy, a good spicy. We split the first burger and then ordered a second one. Looking at the kitchen the majority of people were ordering burgers. People were ordering food around us, not just drinks. They'd order their burgers and then other dishes to split, such as onion rings and wings. I would defiantly order the smash burger again and highly reccomend it to others. The only thing that was off was the lack of napkins at our table. No one refilled the tin lately. The bathroom was clean. They had 2 unisex bathrooms. I was afraid there would be a long line since there were so many people and only 2 single stall bathrooms. To my surprise when I went there was no line. It's nice they have a green or red disk on the door so you know if it's occupied or not. And you don't have to giggle the handle to see if it's busy or not. Service was impeccable. The food came quickly and they servers were pleasant. The water jug was empty when I went to get a refill. I went back to my table and with all intentions of flagging someone down the let them know it was empty and with in two minutes it was refilled and I didn't have to say a thing. See, great service. They are really on top of it. I would definitely return and get the smash burger again and I wouldn't share mine next time. They also have a good dessert selection. I didn't see anyone ordering dessert, but I was temped to. As it turns out we went somewhere else for dessert. Ice cream Sunday, fried Oreos, and a pizzalo I'm not sure how to spell it but it's a chocolate chip cookie with ice cream on top. I belive it comes in a skillet. If you haven't checked out this place it's a must and you need to get the smash burger.

Once again it was wonderful. Andre and Chelsea were helpful. Rock Hopper Burger with goat cheese was da bomb. I had apricot cider and a Ruben. Everything we ate and drank was perfect and as expected and had great eye appeal. Though it was a Saturday afternoon it was busy but not too noisy, but I can see with those high ceilings. Hell would be pretty noisy in the evening. The meat in my Reuben was moist and flavorful, not overcooked. I could taste the cheese, and I love that they grilled the sauerkraut. When it came out with that Russian sauce on it, it had all the flavors that I had hoped and expected. My wife had the goat burger, which has goat cheese on it and some peppers on top . The flavor of the peppers was wonderful and the heat was not bad at all. The flavor of the burger was really elevated because they use a flame and I could taste it in the food. The french fries were perfect. They were nice and crisp outside and creamy inside and I can taste fresh oil and they used fresh oil. You always know when french fries taste off. It's usually because there is many fresh oil used that will never happen here. We want to return again when the weather is nice so we can use the roof portion of the café and be able to eat our lunch outdoors above the streets and watch the action .

Oh man, it's been years, even decades, since I last entered the front doors of this longtime brewpub open since 1986. I just figured I was getting too old and crotchety to melt into the crowd here...young sports-obsessed, beer guzzlers that presumably congregate here under the impression that pork nachos are a superfood. I imagined I would come across like old Mr. Gower. Remember him? He was in George Bailey's nightmare in "It's a Wonderful Life" when he was thrown out of the bar for poisoning a customer years before. Not that anyone here would've thrown me out. What drew me back was a sidewalk sandwich board announcing "Alcoholic Slushies!" There's just something about a libation not unlike a Hawaiian shave ice soaked in booze. The appearance of boozy slushies makes me say, "I belong here." Only $7.50 for a full 16-ounce Mason jar, they've been appropriately dubbed lushies. Flavors change daily, but I've had the Pina Colada Lushie (photo), and with Jamie W. later, had the equally luscious Pineapple Guava Rum Lushie (photo). On yet another visit, the machine was being cleaned, so we tried their short and sweet Rocktail list. We tried the $10 Gold Velour with Klir red, lemonade, and blackberry syrup, and the $12 Diamond Dealer, Triple Rock's version of a Moscow Mule (photo). Both were potent delights though overshadowed by the absent lushies. I've even eaten here. I had the $14 BBQ Pork Sando where slow roasted pork shoulder was drowned in BBQ sauce and piled with apple cider vinegar slaw on a filone bun (photo). It was just alright. DRINKS - 4.5 stars...lushies are the new black, the rocktails do fine as a backup FOOD - 3 stars...kinda underwhelmed by the BBQ sauce AMBIANCE - 4 stars...spacious in here with even a rooftop for al fresco drunkenness SERVICE - 4.5 stars...nice staff (shout-out to Inoke) TOTAL - 4 stars...living the lush life RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? My friends and I came here to attend a friend's band's concert. Hubby dropped my friend and I off and another couple of friends drove but had a hard time finding parking on a Friday night so they parked in a lot. This is a humongous place with two big rooms and a rooftop with seating. I hadn't eaten dinner so using the QR code on the table, you can order drinks and meal and/or appetizers and pay on your phone, very convenient! They have a huge menu! We had a Diamond Dealer moscow mule, beer, cheese croquettes, fried brussel sprouts, a basket of french fries and a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw. The drinks and food came out pretty quickly and there is plenty of seating inside the venue. I thoroughly enjoyed the Diamond drink, along with the crispy french fries and fried chicken sandwich. Next time, I'll try one of their beers since it is a brewery!

Came by to have a beer with my partner & loved the vibe of this place! Super roomy & the bar looked pretty old school, but clean. Seems to be a spot of many regulars, and is pretty popular. The beers were decent, but what really made the experience awesome was that they have slushies (two alcoholic & one non-alcoholic)! Since we were there around the time the bartender was planning on switching out the slushie flavors anyway, we were given a complementary glass of their pineapple elderflower lemonade slushie. That was soooo good and super nice of them!!! A kind gesture that was totally not expected! Thank you!!

"Chicken" sandwich

Very deceiving menu and description of food. Ordered the Greek salad...served on a warm plate. "Buttermilk fried chicken sandwich" was the thinnest piece of chicken I have ever seen, fried to a crisp, unrecognizable from chicken breast. Zero taste other than the loaded jalapeños which just offered heat.

Ginger Beer, Gold Velour, Cheesy Bacon Fries (with bacon on the side)
Alicia T.

Came to watch the Big Game on TV and the atmosphere did not disappoint! Full of enthusiastic Cal fans, but not overcrowded. Cheesy bacon fries were really good, the only thing I would change is having the fondue as a dipping sauce rather than being put on top, because most of it sank to the bottom and was kind of hardened by the time the fries were served. Pizookie was really good, but maybe a little too sweet and a bit smaller than I expected. The Gold Velour cocktail was great, I could taste both the lemonade and the blackberry syrup.

Found this spot two blocks from our hotel. Wanted to see how college peeps chilled at a spot like this and definitely got that feeling. Had a good dinner with my dad and enjoyed some Beers. My burger was damn good and my pop enjoyed the Philly cheesesteak. The bartender was a Detroit guy so that was a cool touch. Definitely a good place to enjoy in Berkeley.

I went to Triple Rock Brewery & Alehouse for Wednesday trivia night. It is located in a really beautiful part of Berkeley. When I walked in we had to show ID, get a stamp and then we could head inside. There are two areas. The smaller room to enter with a bar and bathrooms in the back and then a quite large room to the right decorated with string lights and teaming with large long tables. There appeared to be a game of shuffleboard in the back and the trivia questions were shown on the TV's. I've been to several trivia hosting establishments and this one was by far the most organized and had the best graphics. Our group logged in on an elected team members phone. Then an MC narrated the questions and we input our guesses into our phone. There were about 6 rounds or so of 6-10 questions drawn from various pop culture categories. The pace of the trivia was very good although for me it went a little long. It started around 8pm and ended around 10:30pm. I ordered a smash burger and it was super tasty. I also got to try the spinach and artichoke dip and wow! Truly fire. The drink I ordered was pretty good too. 10/10 on food and beverages for sure. All in all its a fun place to come:)

Blue Rock Burger and Two Rivers Pomegranate Cider, 6.5%
Ruby C.

Came here for an early dinner with friends and it definitely hits the spot if you're craving burgers and beers! I got the blue rock burger and the pomegranate cider with a side of onion rings to share. The pomegranate cider was amazing, super tasty and one of the best ciders I've had! The blue rock burger was also delicious. The caramelized onions paired so well with the smoky bacon and blue cheese. Onion rings were a hit also and the sauce that came with it was so good! This place is a very casual brewery so it's all complete self service. You seat yourself, order/pay online, and grab utensils/condiments by yourself. Not something that bothered me but it is something to be aware of since the signs aren't too clear. Overall great spot in downtown and I definitely would come back!

Mill burger, if you can call it that.

This food is some of the worst pub food I've had. I returned a buttermilk fried chicken because the piece of checker was literally flat, no meat and it was overcooked. Then I ordered a burger that is also so thin and tasteless. The onion rings were overcooked and nearly no onion. Some of the fries, which I ordered with the burger after being 100% disappointed by the slaw that was just kinda pickled vegetables, were not all cooked through. I will not be coming back no matter what game is playing.

I've been coming here a bit more regularly, lately - more visits in the last year compared to the previous decade, in fact. Now I wonder what I was waiting for. According to the East Bay Express, Schmidt's Pub is "basically your living room, but better" - that does sum it up, except that very few of us have living rooms anything like this, with a cozy fireplace surrounded by comfy armchairs and rustic tables beside sunny windows. Not many of us have living rooms with Old Speckled Hen on tap, or populated with an entertaining parade of quirky folk and friendly dogs. If the people and dogs are not entertaining enough then pick up a copy of Calvin and Hobbes or A History of Clay Pipes (okay, I made that one up) and have a little retreat with a pint. 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on these factors: * Beer on tap (transported in reusable kegs) has a much lower footprint compared to bottles or cans. * Allows you to bring your own food, which is good for folk like vegans who are often more comfortable with BYO. * The snacks available at the counter could be a bit more Berkeley (or Albany)! They were mostly from big corps - Lays chips (PepsiCo) and chocolate bars from Mars. Would be nice to see a more imaginative/ethical selection. * A great community space with an inclusive atmosphere. Schmidt's is home to many groups (e.g., knitting) and provides a second family for many, some who send postcards from their trips! * Finally, we shouldn't underestimate the importance of having a place to slow down, reflect and connect with each other a little. In that respect, Schmidt's Pub is worth its weight in gold.

Even the little sweets at the end felt special. Great wine selection too, which made it perfect for an anniversary dinner. Service was polished, attentive, and professional without feeling overly formal or uncomfortable. The only downside was the reservation/seating situation. We weren't able to get reservations and ended up seated outside on a pretty cold evening. Thankfully the heaters helped a lot, so it was still comfortable, but it did feel a little odd seeing the dining room only about half full while outdoor guests stayed outside. Also worth mentioning: this place is definitely pricey. Not somewhere we'd casually stop into on a random Tuesday.
