I recently threw a 75th birthday party for my husband in the little-known upstairs room at Elevation 66, and the new owner Mack Robinson, his wife Wanda, and the entire crew rolled out the red carpet for us. We dropped in for an early dinner recently and before ordering I presented the small gift certificate I wanted to use toward the total (it would have barely covered one entree). Without even looking at it he refused to honor it and immediately cited "change of ownership." I'm not 100% sure that's legal in California, maybe under certain strict circumstances? But it sure isn't good faith for a previously enjoyable establishment nor does it make long-time customers likely to come back. The waiter quickly recited all the things they were out of and when I needed a repeat (because it was a lot), he seemed a bit impatient and put out. (The place was empty except for one other table.) We ordered fish & chips, and it was... okay? It looked like someone had simply thrown the food at the plate and that's how it was presented. There was a white sauce that I'm pretty sure was just plain mayo. A bottle of malt vinegar was provided on request but after all this, I was afraid to ask for ketchup, or really anything else. It's unfortunate because it was nice to have a place to go within walking distance and near to the theater, but after this experience I can't see myself going back for anything ever again. read more

This place has good food, hard ciders and beers. I had a pomegranate cider which was delish!! Nice and tart but not overly so... unfortunately they were out of a few of their beers! I also ordered a Ruben which comes with fries and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. The appetizer was really good. The Ruben was good tho I had a really tough bit in the sandwich that wasn't good. I also found the sandwich to be a little dry. The meat was moist but there wasn't much sauce on it. I was pretty hungry and completely forgot to take pictures!! The service was great. I came here with some friends, and we ordered drinks and food. The beer wasn't great, compared to other breweries we go to, but maybe it just wasn't our style? Food took a long time to be prepared, and while tasty, the portions are small. The hardwood smoked chipotle wings have a great taste at first, but then it switches to straight heat. The honey spicy sauce is a lot better. Overall, this is a place I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again, but would still have a solid time at if there were no other options. read more

My husband and I found this place when we were out this way we looked up places to eat! We came across this one and it sounded like it may be just want we were looking for. It's a small-ish place with a single waiter and what seemed like a single chef in the back. We ordered the burger, onion rings and chicken sandwich. All were pretty mediocre and to be honest we wished we just would have gotten wings. The burger didn't have much in the way of seasoning and neither did the chicken sandwich. Unfortunately the onion rings tasted like batter and when I asked for ranch they just dumped what tasted like great value ranch into a plastic cup. We were not at all impressed. I ordered a Coke and the server brought out a can of coke and a cup of ice. Very disappointing but I guess my expectations were a little too high for a brew company. The place was really quiet for it to be a bar type setting with a few what seemed like local guys there to be on their computers (maybe working- not sure) or drinking a beer silently watching the game that was on. Stopped in on a personal beer crawl in the Berkeley area... Right off the bat they were out of 2 of their 5 beers :( Yet we hung in there and tried the red ale. It was good enough to drink so we got a glass. Didn't realize it was $10... inflation has really set in this town but happy to support a local brewery. Ordered the Dan Dan noodles, just my luck, they were out of those too. Decided on the chop cheese, it was tasty but came in a Costco ciabatta roll that was sort of hard. Fries were fresh and seasoned, skinny like McD, hot and pleasurable but steep $22 for hamburger meat with cheese and onions. There's hope for this spot but prices are too high for repeat customers. Hats off to the one man chef making everything fresh to order. Sadly I forgot to take a photo! Not sure if there will be a next time. read more

In town for a soccer match down the road this is the closest brewery and the good is that it wasn't crowded and the beer I ordered was tasty and served promptly. The bad was I ordered chili and it was basically a bowl of pinto beans with two small pieces of meat and a little bit of tomato paste mixed in. Not good, couldn't eat much of it and was never asked how the food was, maybe on purpose because they knew that they shouldn't have served me that bowl of chili. Also, it's March madness and the number one team in the country was playing, but they chose to have hockey and a women's basketball game on until somebody asked them to actually turn on the thing that everybody else in the country was tuned into. The other good is the blueberry pancakes, I ordered two of them and they are quite tasty. :-). read more

This restaurant was a massive disappointment. The food is good, but the beer selection was minimal and management leaves much to be desired. We were given a gift card that was purchased after the change of ownership and despite multiple attempts, have been unable to use it. Many times we have come in, talked with the day manager, gave our information and was told the owners would call us to fix things. Three trips after the first failed attempt to use the gift card on a date night, and still no word from the owners. Seems we have been cheated $100 as we have still been unable to use the gift card after months of waiting. read more

Had a really disappointing experience this evening with a take out order. We ordered the grilled cheese, which on Elevation 66's online menu had this description: "Cheddar, Pickled Chilies, and Caramelized Onions on Alta Mira Bakery Sourdough". However, when we opened the food after bringing it home, not only did the grilled cheese not have chilies or onions, it had mustard and bacon instead. For those of us who did not want meat like pork, this was appalling. Really wondering if we'll ever order from here again, we used to be regulars. read more

Amazing food at Elevation 66! Our group of 3 met at 4pm when it opened and shared fish tacos, quesadillas and --the BEST Fish and Chips. I can't say enough about the Fish and Chips. The fish was very fresh and melted in your mouth. The batter was crisp and oozed flavor. Usually tarter sauce is a good way to make fish and chips better... didn't even need it--although the sauce was excellent too. Steven told us the chef, Aquil, was new. Well, Aquil is excellent. The fish tacos were also good--so fresh and good sauce. Same with the quesadillas and the salsa served. There is a long bar with exposed brick and a very warm, pleasant atmosphere. Not a lot of beer choices but enough to satisfy everyone's taste. I don't live in the area but will regularly make a special trip to Elevation 66. read more

And after looking at the menu I know I'm gonna come back more prepared next time period I can't believe it has been so long since my last review but now I remember why I liked it here so much. I just took a new look at the menu that they have which I'm posting with this and it looks delicious I want to try the cubano and the Rubin sandwich H you. I am chopping at the bed for it. And the fries that came by looked delicious and crispy outside with creamy insides I'm ready. Growlers and their own beer is offered for take out and the kitchen does serve up quite a array of food. There's not a lot of seating outside but there's plenty inside. I tasted the ramble tample red, The East Bay IPA, and the 2 Rivers Yusu Cider. All delish. I settled down with the BaysidedIPA. From what I could see on draft they had 7 ales and one cider. Sadly I have to cut myself off after one beer because I'm driving. Great access, lots of tables, handicap friendly, and welcoming welcoming staff. Parking can be a little tight so you have to keep your eye open as you get close and they're just past the theater on the right. Don't blink you might miss the sign. I said I'd return I did. But next time I'm gonna return much sooner bring my wife as I promised in the last review and have those sandwiches. read more

Really relaxed taproom with friendly service from the bar. The food menu is surprising with bleu cheese and balsamic reduction in multiple dishes. The onion rings with BBQ sauce is a go-to every time we come here. Only giving 2 stars because the service was nice. Macaroni and cheese was not good at all. No flavor whatsoever. The dish was also cold. Brussels sprouts looked burnt and has way too much chili in them also cold. The wings were warm and eatable but completely bland. I do not recommend at all. The food was a 4. I ordered fish & chips, and Honey Spicy wings. The fish was a 2. The batter to fish ratio was off because the batter was thick. It did arrive with crispy ends, but the batter across most of the fish was softer (not mushy just softer) than the ends. It was also visually oily when handling so much so that I could see the oil secrete from the batter. There wasn't much ventilation in the container so there was some condensation insider the container. The batter had a mild flavor, but was complimented by the well seasoned fries. The fries, again, were well seasoned and cooked somewhat to my liking. The condensation in the container may have soften them a bit. They were definitely the best part of the fish & chip duo: a solid 3.5. I wouldn't order the fish again, but I'd definitely include the fries as the side of another dish. The chicken was the best part of my entire order. Again, the container was poorly ventilated resulting in some condensation and softening of the skin. The flavor was fantastic. I will definitely order this 4 star chicken again. This restaurant is definitely worth trying. If not for the fish and packaging, I'd be able to give a higher star value. read more

We used to frequent E66 pre-pandemic. The food was superb and the beer delicious. Then the pandemic. Our habits changed and we haven't been back for (probably) years. This afternoon we dropped in on a whim. Stephen greeted us from the bar - so friendly and welcoming! He was attentive but not overbearing and his recommendations were spot on. My husband got the fried chicken sandwich and I ordered fish tacos. Both were delicious! The ambiance was chill - music from late 70s and 80s was enjoyable. We will definitely be back! It's so nice to have a local EC hangout with amazing food and beer *and* pleasant folks like Stephen. We are so fortunate!! read more

This used to be a very good place. Maybe just today the owners and had a bad day. When we arrive every table is empty yet owner challenges us because we want to six at 2 tables as we have party of 6. Burgers overcooked. Sent back and still done wrong. Cold fries. The cook looked like a 16 year old and untrained yet owners left him on his own (felt sorry for him). Also hallway to bathroom a mess. We have come here twice in the past couple on months, both times after seeing "Barbie" at the Cerrito Theater that is just next door. On both occasions, Brian was working by himself, but he was in the zone and his hustle was fast but friendly. Despite the open space and hard surfaces, the background noise was not oppressive to conversation as in so many other pub-style eateries. For that, my wife and I are deeply grateful as we don't enjoy having to shout at each other in order to be heard, and especially when we're sitting so close. The Scotch Ale, which was the strongest item on tap, proved to be a superb choice. It's very dark brown color belied the softness of the flavor. It seemed as if it might hit you the way that a stout does, with that storm-laden wall of chocolate and bitters. While there was initial cloudburst of darkness, the shadow quickly passed and gave way to a golden glow, much like the sun coming out to clear the air and make the droplets in the meadow sparkle. I have a tendency to wax rhapsodic when it comes to great beer, but hey, it's great beer! I think that deserves a sonnet or two! We split two starters, the Fried Brussel Sprouts and the Onion Rings. Both were excellent. The Fried Brussel Sprouts were blackened just enough for that smoky flavor, but not so much to make that the only flavor. The Onion rings, as before, were crunchy outside and soft inside, and not shiny with oil at all. They also came with small cups of BBQ sauce and ketchup for dipping. We didn't want to risk a second round of the Scotch Ale even though we were walking home, but as we didn't get entrees, Brian was deftly able to steer us toward the Dessert menu, and that turned out to be a welcome detour. The Italian Lemon Cream Cake, OMG. A perfect dessert for us! Not cloyingly sweet, tart but mellow lemon flavor, and the cake was very light while also feeling substantial. We usually don't have room for dessert, so this a delightful diversion! The attached picture shows the Summer Salad, Fried Brussel Sprouts and Onion Rings that we ordered on our last visit about a month ago! One last thing, as Brian was getting the Italian Lemon Cream Cake for us, he passed by the table and took my empty glass, I assumed to the kitchen for washing. But, he brought it back to me and had poured a little more of the Scotch Ale into it so that my wife and I could still have some as we dove into our dessert. A simple but deeply appreciated gesture that will never be forgotten! Thank you SO much, Brian! We will be back, and we will spread the word in the meantime! read more

Finally found a great brew pub within striking distance of Hercules. Pretty classic brew pub vibe. Lots of interesting beers on tap including a good assortment of local guest beers. Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable wait staff. Not a huge dinner menu but certainly adequate. Nice area with charm but challenging street parking. downhill... I have been here a number of times over the years,both before and after covid. It was a lot more lively in the past, now it just seems lackluster. I walked in an considered just leaving, was told I could sit anywhere. I had looked at the menu in the window so I knew what I wanted, just placed my order. I looked over and saw the floor beneath the next table had not been swept in a long time. Dust and bit of old food were scattered across the basement area. I just was like, "Oh. I shouldn't have come in". But my order was already in. Anyway, my food came, it was a cheeseburger, fries and one non-alcoholic beverage. The total was over $30. The cheeseburger has no condiments on it. (Later I saw that they have bottles of mustard on the kitchen counter) When the server picked up my order, I witnessed an exchange between her and one of the men in back. It looked like they were disputing something, and at the end he just shook his head and smirked, then threw a towel over one shoulder and walked off I had requested the fries with no seasoning, just salt. They came covered in red dust. As the server put down the plate, she said the kitchen tells me that is just salt, and then walked away. Like....? It was extremely annoying to me that this restaurant is charging $6.50 for fries and cant manage a simple request. I tried to eat around it and just gave up after a couple tries. I ate the burger and then sat there thinking about the choices I made in life, that had led to this bad lunch. As she came to clear the plate, she said how was everything. I said I didnt like the fries. And she said "did you want another side instead?" I pointed out that the meal was over. I had been there for probably a half hour at this point. The whole experience was just not good, vibe sucked, food sucked, hygiene sucked, and I would never recommend or visit this place in the future. read more

My family and I came here after going to the Columbia Employee Store in Richmond. Street parking was easy to find around the corner. We shared the crab cake bites for an appetizer which were great and it came with two different dipping sauces which were both good. I had a flight of their beer as well (6 different brews). My dad and I split a grilled cheese and a reuben sandwich, both came with a side salad. Their grilled cheese sandwiches are always changing so this one had sun dried tomato pesto, mushrooms, caramelized onions and swiss cheese. Omg it was amazing.. perfectly toasted ciabatta with ooey gooey melted cheesy goodness inside. The reuben was made with thick cuts of ale corned beef and topped with sauerkraut, remoulade made with their East Bay IPA and swiss cheese, it too was delicious! read more

I ate here on the evening after the Super Bowl - which was maybe my mistake - and although the service was good and the food was delicious, within 24 hours I was so, so, SO sick that I couldn't eat for a week, ended up in the ER, and even four months later I have lingering gastrointestinal issues. I figured they were busy & I might as well just go over there and place an order in person. I get there, there's one customer and 2 people behind the bar. Nobody says anything to me. Me: "Can I order takeout?" Bar guy, flatly: "I have no takeout orders." Me, confused: "I mean I want to order takeout." Guy: "We're not doing takeout." Me: "... because..." Guy: "Kitchen's being renovated." Me: "OK, well you might put something about that on your social media..." (Or your website, or your voicemail...) Guy: "I have no access to social media." ...no "we'll be serving food again on such-and-such date," "thanks for coming anyway," or "sorry you wasted your trip." In sum: no food, not friendly. This place is solid. Customer favorites: (1) For beers, the #10 IPA and the #12 light blonde, both of which are made in house (2) For food, the burger and the fish and chips My favorite: burger (medium rare) with the potato salad Mike and his wife have owned this place for 7 years, and in that time 8 other microbreweries (some with food) have popped up. You can tell this slightly introverted guy is passionate but doesn't want to hit you over the head with praises of his place. He'd rather the beer and food speak for itself. Meanwhile, there's a Pandora station for Stevie Ray Vaughn playing overhead... Everything was delicious, but really the freakin' burger was quite possibly the best burger I've ever tasted before, and I'm not saying that lightly. The quality of beef was tremendous, and so you can get away with cooking it rarer than medium. Paired with the burger, you can order the potato salad, which is also fantastic. It had quite a few bits of parsley chopped into it and a slight kick of paprika or cayenne. I personally had ordered the fish and chips. It was a chunkier batter but still very tender. The fish was moist. However, the burger was better, in my humble opinion. All-in-all, it was solid, better than most. I give this place 4 stars for their brews and 3 stars for their food. The beers here are solid and strong for around $6 each which is a steal. In addition to the house brews on the board they have around 7ish guest beers as well which range from a cider to brown ales. We tried the Molly guest beer and it was nice brown ale option to try which had a somewhat sour finish with the figs. They also sell growlers if you want to take some to go! As for food here it's more than just your typical bar food and they offer salads, appetizers, mains, and desserts. The appetizers are on the $9-$12 while the mains were $12-$22 so it can get on the pricier side of things, but the portions are huge so that makes up for it. + Fish & Chips - We were really craving some when reminiscing about our London days so this place seemed like a great choice. The dish comes with 3 huge coated pieces on a pile of skinny french fries. The fries were perfectly crispy and added a nice contrast to the fish. I thought the fish was coated well and even though it had a thicker layer of batter it was cooked all the way through. I only wish that the fish was seasoned a bit more because it lacked some flavors. + Grilled Cheese (caramelized onions, mushrooms, jack & cheddar, and fried jalapenos) - It was pretty tasty! I liked the nice contrast of flavors with the ingredients and you can tell they didn't skimp out. I thought it was good but it could have been left on the grill a bit longer because one side was more toasted than the other so it didn't hold up too well with all the ingredients and they started falling out. Overall I did like the vibe of this place. I like that it's open seating and the seats by the bar have the vats behind it with apparel hanging from the ceilings. It seems like a ton of locals come here especially to enjoy watching the Bay Area Sports team games on their 2 big screens which I can get behind. #gowarriors Service at the bar was also attentive and friendly so no complaints. read more

The beer wizard was incredibly sweet (in don't tell anyone else I'm nice kinda way)! I loved the tapas-sized plates, the brussel sprout dish, and the chimichurri sauce. Lots of "big boy" beers but there was a light one for me too. Go if you love and know quality beer. They definitely seem to know what they're doing here. Meat looked like it was cooked last week some time. Maybe last month. Pastrami should be pink. This was brownish grey. Lots of fat, really bad. The coleslaw had zero flavor. The other guests had he grilled cheese and the fish and chips. The grilled cheese was ok but didn't live up to its hype; the onion rings were super crispy and tasty. The fish portions were large if you included the batter. Not so sure how much actual finish was in it but there was a boatload of fries. Thank God the beer is great or I might never eat here again. This time I get an email saying I should contact the restaurant because the business didn't confirm the order. When I called to inquire about it I was rudely told he just put the order in and "I have other customers ". When I arrived to pick it up I saw a gentleman standing next to the kitchen. After being ignored for over 5 minutes I caught the gentlemans eye and said I was there to pick up an order. I was told, extremely rudely, yeah I'm getting it. My husband got the 20oz DIPA $6.83, which had a wonderful flavor. I got the 20oz East Bay IPA $6.83 which was ok, a little more bitter. We got an order of the Brussel Sprouts $9 which were quite flavorful, and cooked perfectly. For entrees I went with the Grilled Chicken Sandwich & Fries $18 + $2 to change the cheese to Jack. The sandwich was yummy, but the skinny fries were a bit too salty for my taste. It seemed like they used season salt. My husband got the Fish/Chips $19 which he enjoyed.
