My experience here was okay. I always hear positive things about 5 tacos, but I never tried. I came in for happy hour and had a couple of drinks, the ceviche and fish tacos. The drinks were good, came out fairly quick. The food took a little longer, but still within a decent time range. They were a little bit busy when I ordered too. The service was okay; I felt that either the staff was having a bad day or they didn't want to work. I felt rushed by the staff and I felt that there was some annoyance lingering. I tried to not let it ruin my experience though. The ceviche was good. Had many flavors and there was a lot of it, but they only gave 3 large chips to eat with it, so I requested more. It was also spicier than expected, so if you can't handle spicy, let them know before ordering. It was perfect for me though. The tacos were good. The fish was thoroughly cooked and melted in your mouth, and it wasn't overpowering with any of the flavors and the toppings were great as well. I had an okay experience here because of the vibes I felt from the staff. The restaurant is also on the pricier side, so keep that in mind too if you plan to try more entrees!

Dined there last night. Great service from Alejandro, food was good in the moment.. my husband and I ate similar things except I also had the octopus taco. Next day here, I've been nauseous, vomiting and having diarrhea every hour this entire day. Can't hold food or liquid down. My kidneys hurt also..and am in excruciating pain. Avoid the octopus tacos to be safe.

Been to this place before with friends. Can be busy at times up to a 20-30 mins wait to get a table, indoor and outdoor seating, street parking as well. Food is pretty decent. I can personally say it's a hit or miss. I've gone before where it's a 10/10 knocked out of the ballpark and then others when it's a 6/10 where the meat is overcooked and I'm still chewing on my steak for 5 mins. Place is pretty nice as well, it can be busy as I've mentioned before. If it's busy, you can expect longer delays which tends to happen. Good for all ages.

5 Tacos & Beers is such a gem! We grabbed dinner here recently and had an awesome experience from start to finish. The outdoor patio is great--dog-friendly, spacious, and equipped with heaters, which made it super comfortable even as the evening cooled down. The service was fantastic: friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. Now... the beer selection. WOW. I couldn't believe how many taps they had! I was honestly overwhelmed by the options (in the best way), so I went with the choose-your-own beer flight and tried five different brews. Highly recommend if you're indecisive like me or just want to explore. Food-wise, they've got plenty of vegetarian and meat options, which makes it easy for anyone to find something they'll love. I had a quesabirria and a carne asada taco, and both were absolutely delicious. We also split the fresh guacamole and chips, which tasted super fresh. My wife had an empanada and a taco, and she loved hers as well. Overall, it was a great dinner--laid-back vibe, awesome food, amazing beer, and great service. I can't wait to come back and try even more tacos (and more beers!).

Unfortunately, this place fell off. They took out their best taco, which was the ribeye taco. Their meat is under seasoned, and I found hair in my taco. Service needs a little more work. I feel like when restaurants expand they don't put enough effort to all their restaurants, and the food quality goes down. They need to revamp this location because it wasn't what it was before.

I was nice to come here for a taco or just to have a drink and sit outside and enjoy outdoor seating. they've got great chips and a salsa and avocado dip. The service is great.

5 Tacos and Beers does it again! I don't want to jinx it, but I have yet to come here and not enjoy the experience. From the delicious margaritas to the refreshing cucumber salad to the flavorful tacos, I always leave feeling full and happy.

I witnessed a disturbing incident that left me quite concerned. While I am not typically a germaphobe, this experience was too intense to observe in real time. The waitress picked up the blood oranges off the bar table that some one was drinking at before and then proceeded to place them in jars and others drinks without any apparent concern for hygiene. There are people who believe that dirt does not harm, but it has been scientifically proven that fruits like limes, lemons, and oranges can harbor significant bacteria. I don't think I could return to that place, as the situation was quite off-putting. I understand that maintaining perfect cleanliness all the time is difficult, but this was a wide-open environment where anyone could clearly see the lack of proper hygiene practices.

Great ambiance, decent food, friendly & knowledgeable server but poor service. When we were seated, we were a party of 5 (with 2 kids) and there were only 4 table settings. After we received our appetizer, we had to ask for a fifth setting twice. After our appetizer was long gone, the two vegan plates came out. The big taco order came out 15 minutes later. The kids were getting restless. At this point, we had just two drinks and were hoping the server would come by so we could ask for water. We ended up asking for water 3 times (like we didn't even start with water!). We eventually got water at the end of our meal. I do appreciate that there was an entire vegan/vegetarian section on the menu and those tacos were quite good. Not my top pick for tacos but it was decent.

Brunch at Five Tacos & Beers is always a delicious treat! The service and the food never disappoint. In the ambience is always is always the cherry on top. Today I have one of my favorites, Chilaquiles and a hibiscus margarita. Both were absolutely yummy! This will always be one of my favorite spots.

We love this place BECUASE of the delicious drinks and tacos. We always get the 10 taco plate and the birria because of the flavor. You have to pair it with the delicious crispy beer

The menu changes regularly, which keeps things interesting, but one thing that never changes is the consistently excellent service. One of my favorite things about this spot is how dog-friendly it is. The owner's dog is practically the co-owner of the bar and is often lounging around, adding even more personality to the experience. If you are lucky enough to meet him, just know the dog has standards. The dog only accepts meat, so do not bother offering him the tortilla from your taco. Trust me, you will be judged. Another major perk is that they allow outside food. Conveniently, there is a taco truck right next door serving some of the best carnitas tacos around, making it easy to pair great food with great drinks. Also, keep an eye on the TVs. They always seem to be playing some delightfully over-the-top late-night movie programming that inevitably sparks random conversations and plenty of laughter among the crowd. Overall, this is a fantastic neighborhood bar with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and a ton of personality. It can get crowded, so try to grab a spot early if you can. You'll notice plenty of regulars who come back again and again, and to me, that is always one of the best signs that a place is doing something right.

When I finally met him there, I immediately understood the hype. It's got that classic old-school bar feel: plenty of seats right at the bar if you're in the mood to chat, plus some more tucked-away seating in the back if you want something a little more low-key and private. I honestly can't remember the exact name of the drink I ordered (which probably says something ), but it was a mezcal cocktail--and it was so good I had two. Smoky, smooth, and dangerously easy to sip. You order at the bar, the bartender was super friendly, and the overall crowd had that welcoming, neighborhood vibe where everyone seems to know each other--or at least is happy to talk like they do. We also grabbed burritos from the taco truck outside (pro tip: do not skip this), and you can bring the food right into the bar. Great drinks and legit tacos? That's a winning combo. Overall, it's a fantastic local watering hole--unpretentious, comfortable, and exactly the kind of place you're happy to become a regular at.

There is a pool table and a bar on the second floor, so you don't have to go back downstairs. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They provided great customer service and came by to our table to pick up empty glasses. There was an incident that happened where a man was taking pictures of people in the bar and he came outside to the patio and started taking photos of our group, which we felt very uncomfortable about. We alerted staff and they were able to handle the situation and came back to check on us. They don't serve food here, but they do allow you to bring food from other places! That was very convenient because we were already comfortable and didn't want to leave to go somewhere else. Tacos El Autlense is a 5 min walk away and it's one of my fave places to get tacos; that's where we got our food at! I literally had it the night before too hahaha, but I wasn't complaining! I was there the other night with my beer buddy and all around friend with the same first name as I (and that's another story!) for the tribute to the local beloved character that passed recently, Mr. Bailey Pendergrass. A longtime institution in the Berkeley music scene from way back in the day till present. An interesting, kind fellow who still walked around in skinny trousers and a leather jacket- even on very hot days. And a hairdo like no other! He kind of reminded me of a character from Rocky Horror Picture Show or someone who could be played by Johnny Depp in some hip artistic movie. A bit of an eccentric, soft-spoken, amazingly charming man. A joy to sit down and chat with who had strong opinions and a distrust for doctors and their prescribed medication's,etc. I don't go very far back other than six or seven years when I met him at a popular watering hole called the Cornerstone on Shattuck. He would invite me to hang out while he ate his standard hamburger and fries and wash it down with what I remember was cranberry juice. He could never finish the whole burger so he'd take half home but would eat the fries usually, with a little help from me. We would talk about Minneapolis (where I'm from) and Prince of course, and he would share interesting stories. I'd keep him company until the music event would start where he had carte blanche, complementary entry with a plus one at the Cornerstone. I was his plus one and it was fun one night. I'll have to dig up the mixed CDs that he made for me that he presented in a recycled/repurposed "In-n-Out" bag, it was a nice touch. There was a little hand written note as well. The IVY ROOM put on a nice event and many showed up to pay their respect. Some were given a chance to get on the stage and recall memories. However, the crowd never stopped talking, so it was very hard to hear their praises, etc. The bartender was superb, but I'm sorry I didn't catch her name, very kind and approachable and humorous and of course, extremely efficient! It's a nice cozy room with a lot of history and an eclectic group of patrons. I chatted with a couple of extremely friendly kind people. However, I left before the music started as after a long day of work, I started to fade. Thank you Ivy Room for opening up your space to honor Mr. Bailey Pendergrass, and the wonderful people attending this event.

That location has since closed down, but two locations remain, this one in Albany and another along Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission District. The team also owns three The Star pizza restaurants with locations in Oakland, Alameda, and Portland, Oregon. With all these locations to keep track of what makes people keep coming back for all these wide varieties of pizza pies? It's the dough of course, but it is not just any dough, it is their beautifully crusty cornmeal dough that is cooked to perfection for their Chicago-style deep dish pizza that is what makes Little Star and all of their subsidiaries so worthwhile. I had originally been to this location when they were located literally right next door in a smaller location on the corner. Now, in a much larger location, with floor to ceiling windows that let in natural light on two sides, and their own communal parking lot, where there is a door for direct takeout orders, Little Star Pizza is thriving here in Albany. What brought me and a dining mate back for a first time visit to this newer location was the affordable lunchtime deal that they serve seemingly seven days a week. From open until 3 p.m. diners can order a Personal Signature Pizza either Deep Dish or Thin Crust for only 11 dollars. You can also build your own personal pizza for 9 dollars which is an affordable option. My fellow dining mate and I knew we wanted to select from their Seasonal Specials or their Signature Pies. I decided to order their Personal size All-Star Signature Pie, which was topped with bacon, meatballs, sausage, pepperoni, provolone cheese and served on their signature cornmeal crust, then filled with mozzarella cheese and house-made tomato sauce & finished with parmesan & oregano. My dining mate was intrigued by their Specials menu, and their Personal size Sweet Heat, which was topped with spicy sausage, caramelized red onions, cherry peppers, hot honey and served on their signature cornmeal crust, then filled with mozzarella cheese and house-made tomato sauce & finished with parmesan & oregano. Since both pizzas were so affordable at 11 dollars each, we decided to splurge and order two dessert drinks as I ordered their Golden Gate Orange Soda Float and my dining mate ordered their Dad's Root Beer Soda Float. The wait for our personal size pizzas would be a lengthy one, at least twenty minutes, which for about a nine inch pizza pie, is still a considerable amount of time. But once you do get the pizzas you order, I can report it is well worth the wait, as the pizza has that extra special graininess to it that makes it extra special good. Combined with the fresh tomatoes and an abundance of mozzarella cheese, you cannot go wrong with any type of pizza you order. I liked my All-Star pizza pie with its abundance of meat toppings and I tried my dining mates Sweet Heat pizza pie and it came as delivered as it has a combination of sweetness meets spiciness. Luckily our wait wasn't too long, as we had our ice cream and soda floats to keep us satiated while we waited for our pizzas to be handcrafted. Our total bill was $42.08, which was with tax but before gratuity, which in all reality was very reasonable considering we ordered two rather large personal deep dish pizzas, and our floats were a mere fraction less in terms of pricing. Since they have a Happy Hour on weeknights from 3-5:30 p.m. with reasonably priced cocktails, one-topping pizzas and other menu items at affordable pricing, you better believe it will not be another decade that passes by before I make another appearance. Here's to the continued success of Little Star Pizza, may more locations be in the future, and may their current locations continue to thrive thanks to their delectable Signature Deep Dish pizzas!
