I really liked this place. So why the two star review? Very simple, as others have said before me, $6 for a small taco. The Tacos here are good but not that good. On par wth chipotle and they do not have hard tacos. I'm an average eater and would want a minimum of three of there small tacos and they give you nothing with the tacos. My favorite taco places often give free chips and salsa. If the owners decide they don't want to go out of business, my advice would be to charge $2 for a taco and give away chips and salsa and make your money on beer and margaritas. And get a real selection of beer. Carry all the most popular brands not just a couple. The positives are, the setup is great and the staff were nice when I was there. read more

Went with a group of 9 on 5/27. I thought the food was good; the taco bowl was priced right at $7.00 for chicken and was delicious. The tacos were also good but relatively small for the price. The drinks were good. Service was efficient and and very friendly, but slow. I know we were 9, but it wasn't that crowded and it seems that wince they use all paper, the prep should be fast...not Chipotle fast, I get it, but a bit more timely. I've tried this place several times hoping it would make adjustments from the local opinions. The food does not seem fresh other than fresh chopped habeneros. I have had grey steak with no taste, funky shrimp, and flavorless chicken. The sauces are all pretty good and the concept seems ok, it confusing people every time. The tacos are not worth $6! And you you charge for chips and salsa that aren't housemade, I'd say Californians would be disappointed if they stopped in here. I should've listened to my fellow Yelpers. Hull seldom gets new or hip looking restaurants, so when one pops up I'm definitely going to try it. This place is such a freaking letdown. California underground had a good thing going with practically beach front property, and no other Mexican restaurants/ taquerias in Hull they could've had a real niche. The chips and salsa tasted like Tostito's brand, and the tacos were actually inedible. The steak tasted like it came out of a can, all rubbery with discoloration and no flavor. The taco was filled with "coleslaw" aka tons of cabbage, and the pico de gallo was just a bunch of chopped up tomatoes. Completely flavorless and disgusting. I usually like to try things for myself because I don't like to pass up on something just because it has bad reviews, but this was truly awful. If California underground wants to make it through the summer they better step it up. read more

Wish I could give negative stars. Server was rude and seemed annoyed with anything we asked, said or did. They served us Tostitos chips as their "house chips" and I paid $6 for a taco that had canned meat on it... best of all everything is served in cardboard and plastic plates and cutlery. I hung around the beach and saw the delivery truck pull up and park down Bay Street.. So, looking for a quick lunch on a warm February day. Service was decent, but on the slow side, I'll assume they were not expecting a beach day in February so they were staffed accordingly. The quantity of food for the price isn't bad, you definitely get what you pay for and the variety of options is definitely a plus. But in that same way the quality isn't super great... The tacos were pretty good, but I've definitely had better. The service was okay, kind of slow, but the waitress was nice and helpful explaining the sauces and simple, yet complicated menu. The tacos itself were definitely on the pricer side, $6 for one taco that's decent size, I wouldn't say huge, but you're paying the price for the convenience that it's located right across the street from the beach I guess. Certainly better than 3 stars. My wife and I both had burritos. Great value and quick service. Tons of customizations available for any entree. I want to come bacK and experiment with the Eos and American tacos. The burrito hit the spot though. The chips and guacamole to share made it the ideal lunch portion. read more

The bartenders and waitstaff are very nice and give helpful recommendations if you don't know what you want. Came here for the first time the other day, tacos were good, nothing to rush back in for. Kind of pricey for the portion size of tacos. Meat/ fish portion could've been bigger- Americano style tacos were overloaded with cheese & lettuce which I like to taste more of the meat. Got take out from here..the pulled pork Eos taco with the ranch Sriracha sauce was sooo good. I also got a shrimp eos with a ranch avocado sauce but I wish I had gotten the Sriracha sauce on both tacos. The tacos were delicious and filling but as to be expected with small restaurants the prices were on the high side ..5 and 6 dollars per taco. The ingredients were definitely fresh though. Horrible service but good tacos make sure that you have enough time --we were in there at one hour before getting our food and the restaurant was practically empty very strange, the bartender did not care at all that it took nearly an hour to get two tacos, no apology or any acknowledgement that it was so long. Came here to see a certain someone I love play a show. Being locals we tend to avoid the touristy places down by the beach, but it wasn't a great day out so parking was fine and we were able to sit near our loved ones playing excellent latin music on guitar and bongos (hope there is more of this!). The promise of a legit Cal-Mex option In the barren Mexican food landscape of the South Shore managed to snare a visit from me, once. Unfortunately this place is a complete fraud and an insult to all of those who, like me, regularly frequent taco stands in southern California. Salsa and guac from a jar, chips from a bag, fishy frozen tasting fish tacos and bland meats, all priced at 2-3x what you would pay in Del Mar, Encinatas, Carlsbad, all towns with real estate prices and rents 3-4x that of Hull. Poor quality and even poorer value compared to the fare that can be obtained throughout SoCal. Doesn't even offer any kind of hot sauces for the table. Compare to a typical SoCal taco place with minimum 10 different salsas and hot sauces (not to mention pickled carrots and other vegetables), all gratis at the condiment bar. This place seems to be intent on taking advantage of a very uninformed clientele who do not have any appreciation of the relevant quality or price point standards. For shame. read more

We just got home from California Underground and while the food was pretty good, the service was HORRIFIC! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a girl behind the counter sneezing and coughing with a runny nose. The three minutes it took me to order she was sniffiing profusely, nose was running and at one point she pulled her shirt over her nose to sneeze. Eww! My drinks were not delivered with my meal so I went back to the counter and after sneezing again she went to get my kids and me drinks with her germy hands. I spoke with the bartender to see if she would get us new drinks and rather than replacing our drinks she just brought us new lids. No thanks! A woman who I'm assuming is a manager came over and said the girl had seasonal allergies. Seasonal allergies or a cold, I do not want saliva on our drinks. At the end of our meal a young boy came over and cleared my son's plate without asking if he was done and stacked dirty plates on top of his plate. My son told the boy he was not done and he proceeded to give my son his plate back that had other dirty plates stacked on top his plate. Gross and totally unsanitary! read more
