I had the same terrible experience. I canceled my move three weeks in advance, and they still refused to return my deposit. At no point--not in the contract, not over the phone--was it stated that the deposit was non-refundable. This company is dishonest, unprofessional, and predatory. They take your money even when they haven't provided any service. This is outright theft. Avoid this company at all costs. Don't trust a word they say. Update: At this point the owner is just replying with lies to make sure he doesn't look bad. We had numerous blankets left over after the movers were done packing that they did not used. We asked as they were packing the truck if they needed them to wrap the rest of the furniture and they said no. Do not use this company. They do not respect your property and they will lie to cover up any wrong doing. There is a reason that they are cheaper than other movers in the area: you will need the extra money to fix your damaged property. I recently moved and got my things from storage and noticed so many deep scratches on my furniture pieces. You can definitely tell they just toss your stuff around like it's junk. Had this company move items to my new home. They gave a good quote so I put down a deposit. The men doing the movers were very professional and efficient. I was pleased with their work. After the move, they requested payment. They told me the boss didn't take checks. When I asked which card I could use, they wanted cash. I didn't have it. They called the boss and he relented on the credit card, but added a transaction fee. After the card was processed, I noticed that the deposit had not be deducted. I inquired about that and the young man said he ran what the boss told him. I showed the receipt for the deposit and he called the boss again. The boss confirmed and said a refund would be issued. Two weeks later, I sent an email about the refund but received no reply. The following week I sent another email with no reply. I called twice to leave a message, but no return calls were made. After six weeks, I'm still waiting for the refund. The move was great, the office is a rip-off. I not trusting Jaime Araujo again. read more

Hired to place furniture into storage. It was not possible for me to be at both ends of move and was not able to supervise or inspect how items were placed into storage. I was trusting, they were wreckkess/ignorant. Had to hire another mover to remove and replace items. Many pieces were scratched and otherwise damaged. I am NOT sure what star I should give. I hired California movers to move from one house to another in Merced. The owner was very accommodating on my dates. He provided some extremely wise pointers, which I genuinely appreciate. I paid the full money for 9 hours, $1782, without a second thought. All four guys and helpers with my furniture are excellent except the one who called himself JOJO (JOSIAH). If he ever comes and does service, billing, or deals with you, please ensure you take care of your house first. He literary GOT angry; all I asked for was to take the trash, and the garbage consisted of the wrapping plastic, which was a handful, and the eating plates that they eat in my kitchen. But he showed me a BIG Giant angry face, useless argument, and hurtful behavior. Dude, this is my home it is not your trailer or truck, nor your mother who might clean up your plastic food plates that you eat in my house. I did not ask a second time that I am not paying. I do not work like this. Please get this straight; it is business, then clean up your shit of what you eat. If you cannot take the garbage, that is fine, DO NOT TELL a new owner with a BIG trashed face that you are doing a great deal by working for me over time, I appreciate that hard work and hence I PAID for your services; Go and collect your trash. My friend had this company come to my home to pick up some items she left in my care. They arrived on time as promised. They were friendly ! They took great care moving the furniture and items. What was great about them was that I had a need to move a particular large item of furniture from the second floor to the first and couldn't get anyone to come help me move it including family. This was the worst moving experience I have ever had. The movers came with insufficient equipment for the job. They were tearing the roll of tape they brought with their teeth. I helped them move all small items down the stairs and used our friend fork lift for unloading,, instead of charging me the lump sum we agreed upon, they charged me by the hour - for a 6 hour job that took 9 hours due to their lack of preparation. We used California Movers to move a hot tub that Home Depot promised to put in our back yard when they delivered it. They didn't and it was California Movers to the rescue. They moved our brand new very expensive hot tub that my wife has waited for over 30 years to buy. Can not express enough how horrible this moving company is. DO NOT USE THEM. I wish I would have listened to other reviewers. They showed up an hour late to the job, called to ask if we needed a moving truck, which of course we did, then to top it all off the movers scraped my hallway that had just been painted and took paint off. When we told them they did not care at all. Also they told us one price on the phone and confirmed it several times, but then when they were getting ready to leave they charged us for a travel fee and tax but yet they wanted all cash. I called Jaime with low hopes that they would be able to help me on such short notice, but much to my surprise, Jaime was so helpful and made it happen for me! He & Damien were my movers and they were very fast and very careful with my things. I was moving my belongings into a storage unit, and they packed everything in the unit so perfectly! I am so grateful to these guys and the hard work they put in for my move. I will also add, VERY affordable moving services. I do not recommend California Movers! Jaime Araujo came to my home for the moving estimate scheduled June 3, 2017. After Jaime's assessment of my furniture Jaime assured me everything would be shrink wrap and handled with care. Also communicated was whatever screws/bolts/nuts removed/disassembled would be assembled at my new home. On June 3rd, 4 of Jaime's movers showed up at my home without tools, thankfully I had tools I had not packed, and one moving dolly between them even though I had upstairs/downstairs house with driveway slope, which Jaime said was not a problem. At one point two movers were rolling my dresser with attached mirror towards the door. I asked if they were going to shrink wrap it. One of the movers said when we get it outside. That did not happen. Little did I know I was not being told the truth. My antique mirror upon arrival to my new home was cracked. Not only was my mirror cracked but my washer/dryer that was in perfect condition had several dents and scratches. My newly painted patio furniture deeply scraped. I also was unable to bring my refrigerator/freezer because no one thought about measuring doorway until the day of my move when the doors were already in the moving van. My daughter told them the refrigerator could not be left without the doors and they would have to retrieve them from their van. Two of the movers were upset with this request and proceeded to angrily throw my belonging around because the doors were deeply buried. Not only were they angry, but I could him their profanities which was highly disturbing and unprofessional. They soon left without saying anything once the doors were retrieved, BUT there were still items to be loaded and moved. At this point, my other daughter called Jaime and Jamie had them return to put refrigerator/freezer back where it was located in the beginning and put doors back on. Also, the laundry tub was removed by movers in order to get refrigerator/freezer out which they left on the ground without connecting it as it was. This entire experience dealing with this company has been disheartening. The furniture I've shared with my late husband has all been ruined by their careless handling of my belongings; resulting in deep gouges, scrapes, and scratches. They even managed to deeply gouge my newly refinished hardwood floors in my new home. Please do yourself a favor and find a company that truly does what they say they will do. Despite what they say they don't professionally move pool tables. I needed a table to be moved and called these guys. Jamie the owner said they move pool tables and would charge $350 including disassembled, reassembled and balancing the table at the new location. That's about the average price I was quoted and seemed fair. When they came to move the table they decided not to disassemble and just move it in one piece. I asked them if that's the correct way to move it and they said yes it would be easier just to move it in one piece. They brought the table to the new location and moved it in set it down and drop the ball on the table from about 6 in up and said "there you go that's balanced". I'm no professional mover but what I was told was disassembly and reassembly. when I started playing on the table it seemed a little off I checked the balance with a carpenter's level and the table was off. Did a little searching online and they are supposed to using machinist level to balance this thing out and it should never be moved in one piece because you risk breaking the slate. I called up the owner and asked for a small refund because although they didn't do it correctly they still moved it. Said he would call me back and never did. Called another company to get new felt and bumpers and explained the whole situation and they said they would rebalance the correct way with a machinist level and that they should have never moved in one piece. I used this company and had a stressful experience. They were effective at moving and loading the furniture, however, when moving the furniture out of the trailer they dropped my dryer leaving scratches and damaged my hardwood floor when installing the washer and dryer. They were also 30 minutes late when moving to the next location when it was only 5 minutes away. They claimed that they had got lost, but where advised to follow us in our car to the next location, which in my opinion was very clear and easy to do. We called the owner and he had a very bitter attitude. We also overheard him speaking to his worker over the phone saying that they should just get the check and leave. They ended up leaving a section of the couch and table in the garage when it was suppose to go inside the house. They also drove onto my neighbors yard damaging his lawn. This is the worst moving company I have ever seen! First off it is with the people being sent out to execute. Young, inexperienced and lazy. I ended up helping them because they were taking their time. I ended up running circles around them and I'm twice their age! Second was the shock when they opened the doors of a "rented" U-Haul trailer? Instead of being neatly packed it looked like they threw everything in the trailer. Obviously many items were damaged. They also damaged my mother-in-laws newly refinished wood floors by not using proper equipment. We made an assessment and contacted Jamie but has been avoiding my mother-in-laws phone calls. We needed help with moving our furniture into the garage because we were having wooden floors installed. We called California Movers, and the owner Jamie took very good care of us. They were prompt and were very accommodating. Once the floors were installed, I called Jaime again and asked if his guys would move my furniture BACK into the house. They were at my door at the time promised, and moved my furniture in a caring and professional manner. The one thing I want to share is how flexible and accommodating they are!!! Specifically, I decided to give my entertainment center to a family member who lives in Modesto (I live in Ripon)... Not only did they take it to her, they set it up which wasn't an easy task! Two strong people, with clean equipment, very courteous and careful, arrived at my house 25 minutes later than expected. They were very thorough and focused. The driving skills were very safe and slow. This is my first time using a moving company and they did such a good job wrapping my furniture for storage, I asked to keep the blankets on.
