    Incorrectly installed P- trap

California Heating installed our HVAC system approximately 14 years ago and serviced it a handful of times over the years including about a month ago. On the last visit the service man noticed a skunk while under our home and was surprised to see flex ducting installed which is definitely not rodent proof. We told him California Heating (his company) were the ones that installed it. My husband later crawled under our home to run the skunk off and noticed that there was a mountain of skunk feces in the system. It looked as though a whole family of skunks had been living under there. It was an absolute mess. He called California Heating back to try to get an appointment as soon as possible to either repair or replace the ducting. Unfortunately, they were about three weeks out so we contacted another company who came out immediately when they realized we were having triple digit temperatures. The new company tried to repair/clean our system but found it impossible not just because of the feces but because it was completely rusted out. The cause was the improper installation of the P-trap. (See photo attached). The drain pipe exit after the P-trap was higher than the source before the P- trap rendering it completely useless. It has never drained properly. As a result the chiller completely rotted out (see photo attached). This ended up destroying the system. We do realize our system was older but we should've had at least 5 more years left before we had to completely replace it. It was a quality Lennox system and should have gone 20+ years. We we're also surprised that no one ever noticed this installation error every time we had it serviced in the past. We are not sure how many other systems were also set up incorrectly. Beware of this company! I sent this same info to California Heating and have not yet gotten a response.

Was a messy job and he cleaned everything up, checked everything out thoroughly, and even vacuumed out another heater when relighting the pilot light.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced…read more I purchased a home in late 2023 and shortly after, my furnace went out during winter. I had the American Home Shield (AHS) insurance and I made a claim and they contacted Redwood Mechanical who they contract with and they responded promptly. The technician was courteous and professional and gave me detailed explanation of what needed to be done. It was upwards of $10,000 job mostly covered by AHS except for some personal upgrades I would pay out of pocket for. The technician told me that he would email me on Monday probably for a grand total. This was on a Thursday. The following week I heard nothing so I called the office and a woman answered and she said she would check and get back to me. I hadn't heard back from her for a few days so I called back and left a message which went unreturned. From that point on, I was unable to get a hold of anyone at the company for about six weeks. I called several days a week, sometimes several times a day and no one ever answered the phone. I left voice messages, text messages, and email message which all went unanswered. During this time period I called AHS and let them know what was going on. They called and emailed Redwood Mechanical twice with no response and my complaint had been escalated to a higher level with AHS. At the six week mark AHS told me that if Redwood Mechanical didn't respond by the next day that they would find an alternate HVAC company to do the repair work on my furnace. The very next day I called Redwood Mechanical and they actually answered the phone. A coincidence that on the final day before they lost the contract they responded to me? I told the woman I spoke to that I had been trying to get a hold of her for six weeks. Her response was that the product hadn't come in yet, she was sick, I think she said she had to take the kids to school, etc. I was like yeah okay but SIX WEEKS with not answer to any of my messages? She admits that they "dropped the ball." They did complete the job eventually and the work was good quality and met my expectations. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt and am understanding when mishaps occur but this was the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 59 years. I don't understand how anyone runs a business like this, ignoring a customer's call and emails for a month and a half. The only thing I could figure was one of two things: 1. Because I was using AHS and Redwood Mechanical had the contract to repair my furnace, they knew I would be there waiting regardless so they didn't care enough to make a minimal effort to "meet and exceed" their customers' expectations as stated on their website. Just put me dead last on the customer service list knowing I'd be there when they felt like dealing with me. Pretty coincidental that on the last day before losing the contract they responded to me. For all I know, the product had already come in days before but they preferred to handle other jobs first. Or 2. The other possibility is that they just don't know/don't care how to run a business. It's been about a year since I had work done and did not plan on writing a Yelp review. However, a few weeks ago I had called the office asking about type/size filter they had installed so I could get some. She told me she doesn't have the info but would ask and get back to me. And I never heard back from her. So same old same old so... 5 stars for work done 0 star for customer service.

Like another reviewer, they started off ok but I quickly saw some red flags. They wanted to start work prior to necessary permits being issued and were slow at submitting required paperwork. Very hard to reach by phone or get return calls. I waited for a period after the work was done to see what their responsiveness would be for service issues. Recently reached out for help and again, no reply. The original salesman assured me they would always be responsive and "just a phone call away". That hasn't been my experience. Once they received their money in full, no more contact. It was a nightmare getting them to complete and submit the required paperwork so I could receive my rebate. When I spoke with the owner about the issues, rather than acknowledging their shortcomings, the blame was always placed with others entities, (the County, the utility company, etc.), which wasn't the case. I had some additional systems updated in my house but after the experience with my solar/generator install, I didn't even consider having Scurfield Solar do the work
