While the atmosphere was okay (plain white walls and a sterile, factory-like look inside), the restaurant itself was spotlessly clean. Our party of 4 was impressed by the beer selection, but little else. The fried chicken sandwich was visibly overcooked (he considered sending it back) and a friend said it was tasteless inside, with no apparent seasoning on the chicken. He said he would never order it again. Another friend said the chicken Caesar salad was okay, but she had had better. Yet another friend ordered the Devils Doorbell pizza. Would not order again. You'd better like thin crust pizza because this one was paper thin. The corn was almost non-existent, and it had little flavor except for the pickled onions. Would not order again. I also had the chicken Caesar salad. The soft boiled egg is a good idea but there was zero seasoning on it, and the chicken had almost nothing on it. There were 3 croutons in the dinner salad. Very little dressing and I left still hungry. Would not order again. It was our group agreement that we are crossing this restaurant off our list. Stopped by this plaza a handful of times already but this was the first time eating at Calicraft. Love that it's open seating and self served (order from the bar or from the tables QR code). We went on a Saturday during lunch which surprisingly wasn't too busy and all of our drinks and food came out fairly quick. Staff was super friendly, food was good, portions are definitely more than enough. Garlic fries could've used more garlic flavor but otherwise no complaints about anything we got. Only thing I would say is that if you plan to keep a tab open on your phone during your stay, to create an account otherwise it'll idle too long and your check will disappear. This happened to us so I have to check out with the bar rather than on my phone, which is not a problem but on a busier day I could see a wait on trying to get out of there if the staff is busy. While on an abbreviated craft beer tour of Davis, Calicraft Brewing was my final stop on a Saturday evening. It's smack dab in the center of a relatively shiny & new shopping center. Set a good distance back from the parking lot, the closest spaces to park are actually behind the building. Being so shiny & new, it's a great looking place. There's plentiful indoor & outdoor seating. I'm a sit at the bar kind of guy & the long bar had plenty of seats too. Service from the bartenders was friendly & informative. Getting down to it, I ordered a taster flight & the Baja Fries. Picking out beers for my flight, they were out of a couple of my 1st choices. With about a dozen beers on tap, it wasn't too hard to choose a couple substitutes. Before long, I had my taster flight & Baja Fries. The Baja Fries were just sort of OK. & the beers were just sort of OK. Nothing was bad, per se. But nothing especially stood out as being all that great, either. It all lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. Calicraft Brewing's newish spot in its similarly newish surroundings is a nice looking & inviting feeling space. But, for me, with the beers & food I tried, there weren't any "wow, that's good" or "that really hits the spot" moments. read more

My friend was celebrating the 20th anniversary of his 21st birthday here. It was my first time so I was excited to go! We made it to Happy Hour with 30 minutes to spare. I ordered the Baja Fries (carnitas, jalapeños, crispy shallots, cotija, pickled red onion, chipotle crema). I wasn't expecting a big portion since it was Happy Hour and an appetizer, but it was HUGE! I ended up taking half home - WIN! The fries were crunchy still and there was a good amount of meat. I didn't taste much of the chipotle crema or the cotija, but there were PLENTY of jalapeños - way too many for me. I had a slice of the pepperoni pizza while I waited. The crust is VERRRY thin. It was flavorful and the pepperoni was kind of spicy so that was a pleasant surprise. I only drank water, but I heard the drinks were all pretty good. Our birthday boy enjoyed his shots! I forgot to take pictures of the brewery itself but the vibe was awesome. There was a game area with cornhole and Connect Four. I think some more ambient lighting outside might have been nice, but that would be my only suggestion. I will definitely be back! read more

We ordered the shishito peppers, musubi fries, and kids grilled cheese sandwich. Kid enjoyed her grilled cheese on a burger bun. The shishito peppers would have been soooooo much better if the sauce came on the side. They were so gluey ans overwhelmed with the amount that came on them. The musubi fries were also oversaturated with way too much sauce and were way too sweet. Gloopy and sugary instead of spicy and savory as expected. Some suggestions-- 1) if you keep your Toast ordering platform, activate an option for folks to request sauces on the side. 2) Slice the musubi and grill both sides before cutting into larger cubes. What a beautiful venue, event space, and just a nice hangout for a beer/cocktail and food. This location was breathtaking and spacious. Georgina (one of our event staff waiters) was very attentive and handled the craziness our party brought like a true champion. I grabbed a Aperol Seltzer Spritz that was executed perfectly and the bartenders mixology skills were very on point (wish I got his name). Calicraft Brewing is a fine addition to Davis! I went by for their happy hour, held from 3pm-6pm and 9pm-close from Monday to Friday. My party and I got 2 chicken sandwiches, 2 aperol spritz, and shared dirty fries for about $50! (all on the happy hour menu) Calicraft Brewing is nicely situated in the heart of the new Davis collection. It's characterized by an indoor/outdoor/bar hybrid restaurant. Seating is open and unlike other restaurants, you order food and drink by scanning a QR code found on every table. You then start a tab for that table, removing the need to order through wait staff, but also taking a great degree of your customer service experience away. Food was fairly priced, quite filling, and of decent quality. The crispy chicken sandwich comes with a generous serving of hot, crispy tots and honey-jalapeno slaw. The sandwich was a bit overbreaded, but still felt a bit light and tasty -- especially with the the aioli that comes with it! The fries were hot and tasty, and I thought that the fixings were fairly generous as well. For the price point, you get fairly decent food in a nice environment, making Calicraft Brewing a place worth visiting! read more

Though I can say that I only like (not love) their beer, Calicraft in Davis gets a 5 star review from me. Why? Well, for one Davis lacks places where you can just get a fresh craft beer, some good food, and watch sports. Calicraft checks all dots and is really close to the campus. One of the newly rebuilt builidings in what was once University Mall, Calicraft offers plenty of seating, both inside and outside. All ordering is through the QR codes on the table, but there is plenty of seating at the bar, if more conventional service is desired. I am very particular, and perhaps overly picky, with my beers, but Calicraft still gets the passing marks here. There is a good seclection of all popular styles so if you like beer, there will be something for you. Also, they have a full bar and plenty of cocktails, if something else is more preferred. We stopped here twice- once just for beer and snacks, and other for full dinner-and on both occassions had great experience. IMO the food at Calicraft is their stronger point. The pizzas are really good, burned at al the right places just as I like it. We also had shishito peppers, wings, and Dirty Fries which were all perfect companions to beer and football. Even if not super-hungry, there is also nothing wrong with just getting a beer and some fries after shopping at Trader Joe's next door. The only downside of the location is that with all the new businesses now open, the parking can be very challenging. Be prepared to drive around for a while. Or if local, I'd recommend to use other means of transportation and save time and headache with parking. read more

A brewery/tap room is considered a bar & no place for people under 21. Leave the kids at home, if you can't control them just don't come here. TLDR: A dog-friendly brewery with great fries, solid sandwiches, and an outdoor setup that works year-round. Been here multiple times and keep coming back. The biggest draw for me is the dog-friendly policy -- they even have a dog photo wall you can get your pup added to, which is a genuinely nice touch. Staff have always been friendly and helpful, and more than once they've brought my dog water without me having to ask. That kind of thing goes a long way. On the food: the french fries are the clear standout on the menu -- don't skip them. The sandwiches are solid and I'd take them over the pizza, which is fine but a little forgettable by comparison. The beers I've had have been enjoyable across the board, nothing I'd flag as a miss. The outdoor seating area is extensive and well set up -- plenty of shade when it's hot and heaters when it cools down. For a spot where you want to hang outside with your dog, the setup is hard to beat. If you're a dog owner looking for a place where you actually feel welcome, this should be on your list. I am surprised to see one star. The restaurant is roomy and very family friendly. Me and my friend with kids are mostly regular. It has food and entertainment for everyone. The pizza is surprisingly good if you like thin crust pizza, everything was almost perfect except the center of pizza is a bit soft (but it is so hard to evenly bake the center of a thin pizza to the combination of crunchy-chewy with a bunch of topping on it). The pizza dough was pretty decent and tasty. We order cocktail once but it was a bit imbalanced and more on bitter side because of the amount of the extra alcohol. The fries and tater tots are tasty. Service wise, I ordered fries and it took 30 minutes to come out. I had to go up to the counter to ask about it but the employee was nice and gave a quick apology. I really wanted to love Calicraft since it's right across the street, but our first visit was a massive disappointment. For my family of three, the bill came to a shocking $85. The quality was nowhere near the price. Our two salads were gross--wilted lettuce and what tasted like canned chicken. The grilled cheese was the final straw; it arrived and within five minutes had the texture of a brick. To make matters worse, we tried their cocktails, which were flat, unpleasant tasting, and completely undrinkable. For that kind of money, we expected fresh, decent food and passable drinks.
