The guys that work here are awesome! i went there to get an estimate of a bumper repair/replace and not only they saw me right away, but after giving the estimate for replacing it (which sounded reasonable) they also said they could instead just repair it with some heat and fixing the color, i asked how much that would cost, and they said it would cost nothing! he said they would charge me because it would probably wouldn't look so good. I really needed to fix the car fast because, well... i didn't want someone to notice i hit the car, and asked if they could do it right then (i had insisted i would pay for it) they did, and they insisted not to charge me! so I left a good tip and came back the next morning to bring bagels and cream cheese for all. A few years ago, I came to this shop for a loose front bumper. Jim was kind enough to reinforce it at no cost, knowing that I was ready to turn it back to Audi as part of a recall. One word really describes this place: Wow. I visited a few collision centers, trying to see who could take the car in immediately to replace a bumper, and from the start it was great. unlike other mechanics and estimators, Jim was laid back from the start, not so serious like others in the industry. He took a look, immediately found and ordered a replacement bumper, and took in it two days later. The guy knows his stuff, been fixing cars for over 30 years if I'm not mistaken. He's very thorough throughout the process. Even better, when I told him on the third morning that I had an unexpected work event to go to, he put everything else on hold and hammered out the rest of the work within an hour. Hell, the car came out looking better than it did BEFORE the accident, car wash complimentary. The staff are friendly while you wait, make small talk and what not; and if you're hungry while waiting, there's an awesome coffee shop 20 feet down the sidewalk. This shop is awesome. I got my Subaru into a fender bender and took it here. The insurance company wound up totaling it because the radiator was damaged. Even though the shop was not going to make any money from me or the car, they held onto it for a few days for me out of kindness, so I could get my stereo and a few other things out of the car. The car meant a lot to me, I'd been all over the country to nearly every state with that car and it felt more like home than my house. They were really understanding and let me take my time. And not because they were going to make money, but because they seem to just do business that way. When I was having trouble getting something off the car, they even gave me a hand. I also brought a car in recently that my friend dented up, and one of the owners came out and talked to me about the car for a bit. Which is normal, but he was just really nice about it. They treat you like a person and my impression is that they really care about doing things right, which unfortunately is more than I can say for most mechanics who just want you to give them money and stop asking questions. This really was one of my best experiences at a mechanic ever. I don't usually write reviews on Yelp, but I feel like I need to give something back to these guys. read more

Quick, efficient, convenient, friendly. I had a minor scrape on the front bumper and fender of my BMW and they took perfect care of it. They even got it done quicker than they estimated - it was ready Thursday when they'd said it'd be ready by Friday. Everyone I talked with there was helpful and friendly. I was happy with the service I got and the results of the work. Everything that mattered was fine. Car looks great--they even gave the outside of the car a nice wash. Staff was polite and professional. When I thought I would be pressed for time, they even offered to give me a ride to pick up the car if necessary. I had only two very minor issues. I dropped my car off at 10:00 Monday, and was told it would be two days. At 1:00 Wednesday I hadn't heard, so called. They had the car ready at 4:00. (I guess that two days might have meant "sometime Wednesday.") Also, they don't accept personal checks (completely understandable) or credit cards. I paid by signing over the insurance check and giving them the remaining $450 in cash. read more

I recent took my BMW to the shop. Someone hit me and decided to pay out of pocket. Jim was extremely conscientious with the costs and worked with me to see how we can help this lady save some money. The car was completed later than discussed and he offered to take me to and from work so we don't need to rent a car for another day. The car repair was nicely done and it looked brand new. the dudes at shattuck auto collision center are miracle performers! i drove my car from texas to oakland, and was planning on heading back on sunday. however, on thursday evening i got into a car accident and smashed my headlights as well as my radiator guard. needless to say, i could not open my hood without the risk of not being able to close it. everywhere i went would not even LOOK at my car until monday afternoon - i had to be gone by sunday!!! on friday morning when i took my car in to shattuck auto collision center, russ got working on it asap. he called all over the bay area to find the parts that needed to be replaced (it was a 1994 850 volvo - sometimes its hard to find the parts). i got a call around noon from russ telling me that they had started working on my car. he kept me updated with everything i needed to know. imagine my surprise when i got a phonecall on saturday morning (yes, these dudes are open on saturday!!) saying that my car was finished and they just had to WASH it for me! dont let the negativity deter you from checking it out - without russ and his team i would still be in berkeley when i need to leave tomorrow to travel deep in the heart of texas!!! these guys are the best, and the nicest too! read more

My car was hit while parked and a bumper had to be replaced. Edgar did a brilliant job in all respects, including keeping me informed, explaining things, rapid turnaround, etc. The repair could not look better. The paint is perfect, and Edgar touched up other parts of the car, like buffing the headlights and replacing the little metal Honda shield. I brought in my Prius today because I had a bad scratch on my front fender. Jim took a look and said "maybe it'll clean off." Sure enough, the paint wasn't scratched at all, it was just a transfer of material. He washed, polished and waxed the fender, charged nothing and sent me happily on my way. Jim's great! This is a great place. I initially used Shattuck Auto for bodywork after someone hit my car. They were really nice to deal with then and ended up fixing another dent and broken blinker that was years old for a very reasonable price a few months ago. Just the other day, I noticed the blinker was not working and brought it over. Jim spent about 20 minutes calmly trying to figure out the problem and fixed it on the spot, no charge. I had a pretty heavy accident in my BMW. A friend referred me to Shattuck Auto Center, the shop arranged a rental car and dealt with insurance company. The car turned out great it was repaired it to like new condition. The paint color and texture was astounding. They kept me informed through out the whole repair. Not only did they do amazing work on my car, the staff was extremely friendly, they wrote everything out for me and all the information about what they were doing to my car was easily understandable. This was also by far the cheapest estimate I got, and it just felt comfortable and that i was not getting ripped off. I mean the estimate was $400 cheaper than anywhere else. I just picked up my 2010 Outback and the results exceeded my expectations. I had multiple claims that I had procrastinated following through on and Jim, the manager, patiently and effectively dealt with State Farm on every claim. I had to contact him a couple of time while it was in the shop and he was always available and responsive - couldn't ask for better customer service! And the quality of the work is outstanding. The Outback looks like a new car, the paint matches perfectly, body is smooth as if it just came out of the factory and the paint has real depth to it. Their attention to detail and commitment to quality really shows. Jim even comes in Saturday mornings for car pick-ups so I didn't even have to take time off from work. To my surprise, he even let me leave my rental car there and Hertz will pick it up on Monday! This is the second time we have taken one of our cars there for body work/paint and it's not a fluke, they do really exceptional work on all their jobs. Jim Padilla at Shattuck Auto Collision Center has twice handled major repairs to our Lexus SUV. One time just restoring the finish after numerous bumps and scrapes, including a keying down one whole side. It came out beautifully, but as luck would have it, the car got T-boned at an intersection with a month and had to go back in for several thousand dollars of work. Both times the work was done beautifully, restoring the car to "like new", including suspension work after the latest accident. Jim also handled all the insurance paperwork, which was great. As a senior citizen and a woman, I am fearful of being taken advantage of by auto repair shops. Today my car was hit while parked. I went into Shattuck Auto Collision Center and spoke with Edgar. He took the time to review various options with me - new bumper or repair the existing bumper. When he found out that I had approximately one year remaining on my lease, he suggested that he do a quick fix now and wait to have the painting done until the end of my lease. I asked how the car would look with the quick fix stating that I didn't want to drive a dented car. Edgar said, "sit down for a minute and we will find out." Ten minutes later he was back with my dent free car. I thanked him and asked what I owed him. He said nothing. Towards the end of last year I had a horrible front end accident, totaling over $20,000. I thought the vehicle could not be repaired and if it could it wouldn't be the same. Well, I was wrong. The repairs were completed within thirty days and my truck looks fantastic. Since the entire front end was smashed I was also concerned about possible mechanical issues. Once again, no problems. I have been driving the vehicle for four months and I have not had one problem. I bought a brand new car in late August of 2007 and had a horrible front end collison in February of 2008. I thought my car was done for and I'd have to buy another one. I took the car to Shattuck Auto Collision Center in Berkeley and they took a look at it and told me they could repair it and have it back to me in a week!! When I went to pick up my car it looked like it had never been in an accident-it looked brand new again...needless to say I was very pleased. The service was wonderful. They kept me posted on everything that was going on with the repair costs and there were no surprises at the end. The shop was spotless, the staff was friendly and I didn't feel the least bit intimidated by the whole process. I keep a picture of my car before and after the repairs and tell everyone who will listen what a good job they did on my car. It drives the same as it did before the accident which is surprising to me considering the internal and external damage. I pray nothing ever happens to my vehicle again but if it does I will be right back at Shattuck Auto Collision to get it fixed!! read more
