The place is clean. And the massage for a pedicure is magnificent. But I didn't like that they didn't use a soap or sea salt when cleaning your feet for a pedicure. The salon is clean and staff is very friendly. I walked in right when they opened and was seated almost immediately. My pedicure went well, for the price I think the service received was about what I'd expect, even a bit more. My gel manicure is trash. Very lumpy and uneven; the skin around my nails has been left to hang out randomly...part of the reason for this is that my manicurist stood for the entire appointment and my nails were done on top of a pillow. If I hadn't been pressed for time, I'd have asked for a complete redo. I may call and see if they can take me tomorrow, will update if so! read more

Came here twice both times had horrible experiences. First time came to get gel and the lady doing it did it so carelessly (did not even trim cuticles, got the base coat all over my fingers) that I got up in the middle, made an excuse, gave her 15 dollars and left. The lady was like a bit older, really nice and tried to be accommodating but she was just bad at her job. Second time, I was already bit hesitant to go there but there are so many good reviews about who does their acrylics, which is what a I wanted to do. The attention paid to detail is again very minimal. Plus the guy was really impatient. Any time I asked for something he started being more rough and more careless. It wasn't like I kept changing my mind and was annoying and indecisive, all I asked was for him to cut the acrylics shorter and file them round at the edges. My nails look good from like really far away I guess but I know for sure that I am never coming back here. Not sponsored or anything but id you're a Berkeley student and want to get your money's worth go to Versailles nails. Pretty much same price but the women working there are much more professional (wear uniforms, tools seem freshly sanitized) and they're friendly too. I just finished getting my nails done from Cali Nails and I love them! I'm so happy I found a salon closer to my house that does SNS. My nail technician did an amazing job (sad I didn't get his name). He really knew what he was doing and took his time. I had cracked a couple of nails from snowboarding but he brought my nails back to life. I didn't catch the woman's name who did my pedicure but she too did an awesome job. I went in to get my nails by David who was highly recommended but came out disappointed. I had sets done by him In the past which looked good, but the last time I went in he rushed my nails and they turned out badly. I decided to try again this time and I was very disappointed by the results. I came here for the sole purpose of getting SNS powder nails. I came right during opening and had no wait at all which is a huge plus. They have a decent amount of colors for regular polish. I opt for just a reg pedicure and sns nails. I actually wish there were better colors to choose from. I ended up selecting a burgundy color. Ivy trimmed my cuticles and did my manicure. I liked that she use an e-file to field down the thickness of the nails after the dipping. However it was sooo uneven. It made my color look super faded in some areas of all my nails. It just looks straight up patchy. My left index finger was the MOST inconsistent. After she had filed it down there was a whole chunk of color missing. She attempted to fix it by adding more powder but didn't file.. so it's significantly taller than all my other nails... they had two girls walk in at this point and wanted to take care of them and just rushed the rest of my nail job. This is a unique nail review but really important. I work in special education and have a student who compulsively picks her nails until they're nearly down to the bit. After trying a few different things, we decided to try a gel manicure to prevent picking. We came as walk-ins and Ken was INCREDIBLE. He made my student feel comfortable, let us walk her through the process, and figure out the best option for her nails (short acrylics and gel polish). He was so kind to my student. Unfortunately I am writing a second review to change my previous one from 5 stars to 3 stars. I noticed they seemed to be rushing my mani pedi, and then noticed they had someone waiting who they were rushing to fit in. After the manicure was finished, there was still lots of dirt under my nails and they were unevenly filed. I asked her to fix it, these photos are of the dirt still under my nails after her second try... which I easily swiped away with my finger nail. The pedicure was better, but the massage was no massage, just a quick application of lotion and rubbing some hot stones on my legs for at most a minute with no pressure. The massage is the most important part, for me. I still appreciate that at this salon the men actually work and don't just collect the money, but... I guess I will go back to lavender salon. Strong fumes; 30 minutes late; file too deeply; cracked one woman's nails and would not stop when she said she was in pain. Unfortunately the fumes were so strong it was like standing over an open tub of gasoline for 90 minutes. They keep the door closed and seem to keep the ventilation off for the most part. I left there faint and nauseous. They were 30 minutes late for my appointment. They don't include any kind of cuticle soak and trim in your appointment, only as an add on. They were fast and did wonderful ombré but ruined the sides of my nails aggressively filing w the roughest nail files. The sides of one of my nails was filed away so deeply there's no nail where nail should be. I watched them crack one woman's thumbnail in half while two people repeatedly pried her acrylics off as she said repeatedly "That's painful" and wincing, but they wouldn't stop. Poor customer experience! I Had an appointment booked and was not greeted when seated to do my nails. The man started by removing my nails incorrectly and damaged the base of my real nail. Jenny is amazing! I came in wanting a full set of acrylics but after talking about what I want, she convinced me to try the sns powder. She shaped my natural nails beautifully, and the rose quartz design came out great. If you want to have Jenny work on your nails, definitely schedule an appointment several days in advance. This place gives me a headache. I was recommended by my sister who went to DAVID a couple times because she said he does really cute nails. There always seems to be some mix up with requesting him and then when you get there they said "no you didn't request him" when you did because that's the only reason I went to the nail shop. If you are going to run a nail salon and people are giving YOU money for your service be welcoming and inviting so people want to come back. I had called to try and make an appointment after 5:00 on either Thursday, Friday, or Saturday with David. So he says, "No, I don't have any appointments." So I'm like "okay, so when are you available." He is like 11:00 AM on Sunday." I said "Sorry I won't be able to make that time." And he says "K" and hangs up. I'm not sure what his issue is but clearly people are requesting you to do nails. You should be flattered. Instead he gives off this negative energy. Take your business elsewhere. read more

I got a full acrylic set with gel and a gel pedicure with lemon scrub, which was around ~90 dollars total! I have been to a couple nail salons in berkeley and sf area and I think cali nails and spa is definitely one of my favorites!
