Why didn't I listen to the reviews ughh.. they have no idea how to do nails or even color inside the lines. They were all very nice and eager to help, but that doesn't make up for the fact that I walked in in a "treat yoself!" mood and walked out feeling crappy with these gross looking nails - on top of that some of the edges are bleeding a little (literally, blood) from the vigorous filing. Idk if you can tell from the photo but trust me they don't look good at all. I would NEVER recommend anyone to come here!!! I asked for French tips short to medium length and got very uneven lines. The nail Tech didn't clean up the line at all with a brush and sloppily painted them. I was so upset, I was expecting a relaxing experience at a nail salon and instead left upset. After asking the tech to fix them. She said she couldn't because she already put the gel top Coat and just filed them down. Bad customer service. The lady who did my pedicure tried to pick off or pull off my scab with her nail tool, like omg. There were flies is there. The lady also like beat my legs?? I came in for a hard gel removal, and the tech ripped off my hard gel with cuticle clippers and a nail tip, ouch!! They did not ask me how long or short I wanted my nails. They just cut off the nails that took me 6 months to grow. I'm never going back. read more

I live nearby and I've been coming to Fashion Nails for years. The owner and two staff have been the same the whole time. I'm embarrassed that I am forgetting their names at the moment, but what I do clearly remember is their constant warmth and welcome whenever I am there. They are always friendly and attentive. I'm not a frequent customer, and I am not an expert about manicures. I come to Fashion Nails for a pedicure about once every two months, that's all. The interior is minimal, it is not fancy, but it is clean and comfortable. I'm always happy with my pedicure. My toes always look so clean, smooth and soft, and the nail polish is precisely applied and lasts at least a month. I never get a manicure or acrylic nails, because thats just not my thing, so I cannot make a recommendation in regards to that. But their customer service and pedicures are wonderful! read more

A pedi for ~$20 (with tip), complete with a mini foot massage? I'm sold! Truth be told Fashion is not the swankest of salons, but if you're on a budget, the ladies here will certainly take care of you quite well. =] I have been here twice now, and both times my pedicurist went to the effort of setting up my foot soak early so that my calluses would have time to naturally soften. Unlike some other places that skimp on the filing as soon as they see more clients walk in, the ladies here take their time.(On my more recent visit, it happened to be a crowded night, but even as it was nearing close time, they made sure to give each customer the regular amount of work without rushing.) My girl really went to town on my heel calluses with a sanding dremel (surprisingly gentle, folks! lol), lotioned me up to mid-calves, and proceeded to massage my feet as my skin was absorbing all that wonderful moisture. Did I mention the massage chairs being awesome? SUCH BLISS, GUYS. XD Back to some nail cutting/shaping, and then some cuticle-scaping before (and this is SUUUPPPEEERRRRR important to me) ***filing down the top edge of the blunt cut toenail***. I cannot stress this enough. All my girls who get pedis: You know nothing ruins the longevity of your polish like not rounding off the top edge of your toes. Ugh. One fell stub against a chair leg or dining table and no amount of top coat can keep your polish from chipping. Then it's bye-bye, money! Anyway. Application of base, color, and top coats are done quickly and efficiently. Designs are just another $5 if you want an extra pick-me-up. My girl very sweetly even helped me put my sandals back on, making sure my straps wouldn't rub up against my fresh polish... I will certainly be back here again! read more

I have been going here for about 3 years now and I'm satisfied with the service and the quality. I usually get white tip acrylics and they come out looking perfect every time--even, well-sculpted and shiny. People often ask me where I get my nails done, which I think speaks to the quality, considering that it's not pricey. I always ask for Jennifer to do them though, because she seems to be the most experienced. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I'm not too gung-ho about the pedicures, simply because they share materials and I worry about fungus, etc. But you can bring your own and they do a nice job. They are exceptionally friendly and will do nice little things for you like help you put on your shoes, put change in your parking meter, etc. They also do good eyebrow waxing, as long as you tell them not to do it too thin (unless that's how you like it). It took some time, but Jennifer has gotten a real good sense of exactly how I like mine and she's the only person I'll really trust with my face like that. read more

This place is terrible. I came in here for a full set and showed a picture of what I was wanting, making sure to ask before they sat me down if it was something they'd be able to do. They said yes, and a guy who was obviously not a trained technician started trying to glue the tips onto my nails without even having buffed my nails first and struggling to figure out which tips fit which nails. I was about to pull my hands away and leave until the woman working next to him stopped him and showed him what to do. After that the guy pointed at the woman and said "she'll do your nails now." Paid no attention to my cuticles, was sloppily done, and turned out looking nothing like the photo. This all happened 3 days ago and multiple nails already popped off so I decided to just rip off the rest since they weren't even properly glued down to begin with. Waste of money here. read more

Not a fan. I have been here three times now and the level of service fluctuates with each visit. Sometimes the service is great others sadly lacking. Also the quality depends on the person. I came in asking for an acyclic set of nails and the person insisted I do gel, I had had a long day at work and didn't want to fight so gave in and regretted it as soon as she started. I came in at 9am, the girl slowly filed my nails for about a half hour until the other worker came in, at which point she said "she do your nails now". The other girl didn't do my nails right then, however, because she had already started waxing the eyebrows of another customer who had come in later. Cheap but my full set of acrylics looked AWFUL. I get my nails done every couple of weeks and I can tell between a good and bad manicure. This place was just plain BAD. The lady was on the phone the ENTIRE time and so obviously she wasn't paying attention to how bad my nails were looking. She caked on the acrylic gel so they looked sloppy, uneven, and the polish job wasn't neat. I have paid $18-25 for a full set in SF in the Mission and they did amazing so you can't tell me "I get what I paid for" since I should have really paid her less than $10 for the messy, rushed service. Two stars because the place was clean and the other ladies there (not my manicurist) were sweet and friendly. Also they took me in without appointment a half hour before closing. read more

The pros: The ladies working here seemed friendly and I didn't feel rushed like I do at some other nail salons. The prices are reasonable, ie $10 for a manicure. Luckily I did not receive rough treatment as another reviewer did. She was gentle. The cons: I'm not entirely certain they are following the laws for cleanliness. I saw the manicurist take the same tools (cuticle pusher, cuticle trimmer, etc) that had just been used on another customer getting a pedicure, wash them in the back sink, then use them on me. I don't even know if she used soap, but either way it's sketchy because tools are supposed to be sterilized, not just washed with water. If this concerns you, which I think it should, you might want to steer clear of this place. read more

ABSOLUTELY GO HERE FOR CHEAP PEDICURES...but skip the gel mani & the eyelashes (despite the temptation-this IS a case of "you get what you pay for") I have had more than a handful of good pedicures (and fair manicures) and will continue to visit here even if just for my toes. The mani/pedi is ONLY $24! Do not bother with a gel manicure, seriously, don't. While it is only $20-or $10 extra (and free gel removal if you are getting another gel manicure) it doesn't last. I gave it two tries and was extremely disappointed both times. The manicurist quickly & carelessly Slopped the polish on and guestimated the uv light time on the entire hand rather than carefully timing one (or two) nails at a time. The polish was far too thick causing the polish to chip within 1-2 days. It looked terrible, particularly near the quick (which only proved to look worse as my nails grew)...I requested a French tip the second time hoping to avoid the problem but was just as disappointed as the first nail chipped the same evening. My experiences with lashes is too ridiculous to elaborate on right now, just don't do it Additionally, I would advise bringing your own tools, which I advise at most places if you have any concern about sanitation...that being said though, I haven't had any problems with theirs All of the women have been friendly to me each time I have gone in but rarely engage in any conversation with the customers...this is actually fine by me & I've learned to bring a book. If they aren't busy they will usually massage my neck/shoulders (which was a nice surprise on my 1st visit) while I'm waiting for the polish to dry. read more

I went there for the first time for an acrylic yesterday and was sooo happy! No torn or cut cuticles, no ground down nail bed, very gentle and good shaping. I love that they are a green salon too. After having a horrible experience with Classy Nails (down the street), I was driving around to see what places were open at 7pm (I was in a bind and needed my nails done/fixed before going on vacation the next day). I came upon Fashion Nails at 7:10, and even though they were technically closed, they still said they would redo the French tips I had just received. They were not extremely friendly at Fashion Nails, nor did they do a great job, but it was a heck of a lot better than the other place. The paint job was definitely a 2/5 star.... If you need a paint job, and you're in a bind, go there. Otherwise, pay a little extra for a job done well. read more

I have been here a few times and love this place. It's one of the few salons where you can add on an additional 15 minute massage when you get a pedicure. The ladies here have exceptional attention to detail. Prices are reasonable and the location is convenient to Trader Joe's too. I've tried other salons but this place is my definite favorite. They can get very busy on the weekends (many regular customers go here and they drive from near and far), so I recommend calling first before driving over. I generally always find street parking unless it's a Cal game day. They prefer cash over credit. I always look forward to going here to get my nails done. I have been going to Fashion Nails for 12 years. I love the people there and they do the best manicures and pedicures in town. They are fun, really go above and beyond their call of duty and always aim to please you. Their pedicures are the best with full service from giving you a leg massage to getting nice warm cloths wrapped around your legs it is relaxing and the massage chair does the trick to help you relax. Sometimes you have two different people working on you at the same time so you get the treatment of a lifetime. There manicures are great and putting on acrylic nails they do the best job ever. They have other services that are equally as good. I have had my eyebrows waxed and have had fake eyelashes put on as well both with the greatest of ease. I live in Martinez but come back to Berkeley to get my fix from these wonderful people and wonderful shop. They have become friends as well! I decide to go back to Jennifer for a pedicure, and boy was I glad I did.Emmy,the lady that does the pedicures is the best I've had so far. The other places I've been, Emmy beat them hands down.when she is done with your feet it is so smooth and pretty you feel like you can go some extra miles.
