Exterior pump unit
Jeremy T.

Recently, I began to go down the road of replacing a 15 year old forced air gas furnace with a heat pump. They're far more efficient, for one, but it was attractive to be able to run the HVAC off of my existing solar. Reached out to Daniel and team to get a quote for an in-place replacement. Substantial ductwork wasn't necessary, but we did need to figure out where to place the exterior unit, etc. The job started about a week after getting the quote, and took two days to complete. The team was on time, focused, friendly, and worked cleanly. I'm really pleased with the outcome, performance of the system, and the clean installation. Not to mention, they're fair with pricing. I plan to use Cali HVAC for my future HVAC projects as well.

We couldn't be happier with the professional and excellent service from Cali HVAC. They installed two new air conditioners for us and did a big repair on our furnace to put in a new condenser coil. Daniel worked hard to get us the best equipment and quote us the best system for our needs. The price was reasonable, too. When it was installed, it was incredibly clear what a top-notch company this is. Everything was done with precision, and to the highest standards--down to the smallest (but important work) like pipes being wrapped neatly and perfectly straight installation of cutoff switches and new thermostats. The cleanup was so great you would never know they were here, except it's much nicer than before! The three installers Daniel (a different Daniel), Tom, and a third person whom I didn't get his name (sorry) , were really nice and really hardworking. They answered my questions without any impatience. They put down walking blankets and wore shoe covers in the house so there was no chance of dirt issues. It was quite obvious they were very experienced and took pride in their work. Our new ACs are so much quieter than our previous old units--you have to go stand in front of them to hear them--and it's a joy to have working AC again. Thank you to Cali HVAC for a wonderful experience from start to finish.

I had been in the market for an additional mini split for my home since I moved in and had CalFirst completely upgrade our furnace and install air conditioning. Living in a 3 level downslope home with no attic and a westward exposure of floor to ceiling windows, central AC is a must have on sunny days and I was looking to add zoned cooling since the upper level gets significantly hotter than the lower levels. Unfortunately, the duct work in my home was too convoluted and inaccessible to figure out the proper zoning shunts, and Haddon (4 stars) forced a change order in the estimate for an additional 35K during installation. Absolutely not; I can get a mini split solution later. Fast forward 10 years, the summers were getting unbearable on any level other than the middle toward the street facing side of the house (which is basically like a cave), so I started shopping around for mini splits. On several vacations to various countries in Asia, I had grown a liking for Daikin mini splits, so Cali HVAC being a Daikin authorized distributor and installer was a huge plus. Still, I shopped around and got around 6 or 7 estimates for a 3 handler mini split with what I calculated to need 24K / 9K / 12K btus. Some of the estimates didn't meet this base expectation, and I was amazed to get a quote from one installer of over 35K for a mini-split system I can buy online for 6-7K. Absurd. Daniel immediately parroted my desired configuration before I mentioned it, suggested a more efficient outdoor condenser and was one of 3 installers who said they could pull off the installation simply using ladders and not scaffolding, as the highest handler unit would be nearly 30 feet off the ground on a slope. He also confidently suggested a quad breaker to replace my existing dual pole oven breaker. All in all, with the complexity of the job, he was by far the most knowledgeable and even provided me a quote for installation of equipment I could buy myself for them to install; only 2 other installers offered this service while others rejected owner supplied parts due to "inability to guarantee installation." Right (eye roll). Also, his estimates were the cheapest and his company offers 3rd party financing as well as takes credit cards like Amex. His crew was among the cleanest contractors I've ever had service my home, cleaning and vacuuming where ever they worked. They consistently wore booties over their shoes when in the house which was absolutely necessary since it was rainy and muddy during the 3 day install. One of them even found my wedding band that I had lost somewhere in my study toward the beginning of COVID shelter in place restrictions. The only issue I had was perhaps partly my fault; I chose to sign the estimate for the installation during the holidays, and while his response time was very quick whenever I asked for updates, I had to press him for said updates during the scheduling and permit application phase. Once everything was negotiated and scheduled, he came on time each day and tried his best to be accommodating of my annoying guard puppy and the 3 flights of stairs inside and outside my house. Also, make sure the crew uses a stud finder before drilling holes for the line-set. On the last unit, they hit a stud but luckily didn't damage it and was able to repair the wall. Today, the installation passed inspection, and the heat pump works great (although the unit on Auto tends to switch to cool once the room gets to temp). I'm certain that I'll finally be able to work from home in the heat of the summer without an issue now.

They were extremely careful of my antique china cabinet.

I had Cali HVAC install two mini split systems in my home. Daniel and the crew were prompt, professional, respectful of my property and quite fun to work with. The job was done from start to clean up in eight hours. I would gladly recommend Cali HVAC to anyone who is interested in HVAC work.

I had spent money having Cali HVAC check my fairly new AC system, clean the coils and do a number of other things that were not successful in making the AC work. They charged me $100 for an 24x14x1 AC filter that Home Depot sells for $15.97 and slides right in. When I paid, I had no idea what swindlers I was dealing with and I knew very little about the HVAC. Then I spent a lot more money having the ducts replaced as they recommended. They still couldn't make the cold air blow through properly. It was as though they had no clue what they were doing and were just trying different things to get more and more money out of me. I gave up trying to fix the AC as the temps started to cool down. This year a friend recommended a good company and they went into the attic to check the ducts. The work that was done (or perhaps never done) by Cali HVAC was horrible! Ducts were not strapped, they were badly kinked, it was no wonder the AC failed to work. I looked over the paid invoice from last year and it said there is a 5 year warranty. I tried 2 days in a row to get a hold of someone at the company - nothing. At this point I have zero trust in their work and want to be reimbursed. Do not use this company.

During the estimate phase, Constantine was a breath of fresh air. Instead of pushing generic upsells, he actually "downsold" us by engineering exactly what we needed to work seamlessly with our home's downflow ducting. He was honest, straightforward, and clearly explained the system without any high-pressure sales tactics. For the installation, Mike and Diego were our crew. They arrived a little past the initial 9am window on the first day, but they worked incredibly hard and got the entire complex job done right on schedule. At the start of Day 1, I handed them a simple "homeowner's QA" list of things I wanted to check with them at the end. They were super nice, listened, and gladly accommodated every single request. The workmanship is top-notch. They perfectly sealed the exterior wall where the lineset exits, helped me get the Kumo Cloud Wi-Fi connected to my phone, and hauled away all the old debris, leaving the site spotless. As a testament to their technical skill, when I asked about the refrigerant line vacuum test, they had pulled it down to 350 microns--which is a great number and proves they don't cut corners! Pics attached of the final setup. If you want an HVAC company that is honest in the office and expert in the field, we highly recommend the Galaxy team!

Our furnace recently went down and was not blowing hot air, leaving our house less than 60 degrees inside and getting colder. We called the original installer (not Mercury) of the furnace to take a look and see if he could fix it. Couldn't figure out the problem but said he would replace the motor and pressure switches for $2,000 after looking at the unit a bit. He then told us we should consider installing a heat pump, so we decided to get quotes from several companies to install one. Ian was the only that asked us "do you actually want to replace it?" instead of immediately trying to sell us a new unit. Even just speaking with him over the phone for a few minutes, he showed just how knowledgeable he was and what questions we needed to ask the other sales reps. So I waited for Ian to come by and give us his opinion. Within 20 minutes, Ian had CORRECTLY diagnosed the problem and had our furnace back up and running for the first time in over a week. He then showed us everything that was wrong with the original installation of the unit. Ian is so incredibly knowledgeable about every single aspect of these units: the thermostats, motors, electrical, filters, fuses, wiring, troubleshooting, everything. He also gave us a quote for the install of a new heat pump and the pricing was incredibly competitive compared to all the other big names in the area. I will NEVER call any one else to get my HVAC serviced ever again. Ian and his team have our business for life and we couldn't be any more grateful.

I found this company based on all the wonderful Yelp reviews to tune up my old gas furnace- something I do every year before the winter season to ensure optimal maintenance. They came out and immediately refused to do the service citing possible asbestos tape. I asked how this was possible when the last 15 years I've gotten service and have even asked the contractors to do a visual inspection of my system. They weren't sure but said that another employee in the area can come look and give me an estimate for a new system. I thought this was shady and it turns out, I was 100% right. They came later that day and quoted me $26K for a new system not including subcontracting to get the asbestos removed (another $1500). I was told and shown pictures that there was evidence of the same tape inside the duct work. I was told I would get these pictures sent to me with along with the estimate but never received any of them. I got someone to come out and test a sample of said material for $100 which did come out positive for asbestos. However the only asbestos that presented any harm was the tape on the outside of the system. There was no asbestos inside but it was recommended that I do more expensive air testing since Perfect Star said I would not be able to use my heater without the asbestos getting released into the air. Not only was this stressful to hear right before the cold weather, but I was very concerned that over the last decade I had inadvertently put my whole families health in danger using this furnace. Meanwhile, Raymond Kinder texted me a few days later to find out if I was going to move forward with the new unit. I told him asbestos removal was my priority. His response via text was "if they remove asbestos, you will not be able to run that furnace as the gases will not be vented out properly." This was not true. After several weeks of not using my heater and exploring other options to deal with a pretend problem they created for me, I went with Air Quality Testing who charged $540 for an air test. $640 later along with having no use of my heater, I learned that there is no asbestos running through my air or ducts. Perfect Star literally lied to me in order to attempt to get me to drop nearly $30,000 on a new system. Stay away from this company! They do not deserve your business for lying to their customers.
