I was a little worried as the last review from Yelp was over 3 years ago! However, this place is definitely still here, and if you're looking for a proper brewery head to CB now. I am down here in Imperial Valley for work, and looking for an after-work beer (breweries are usually my choice), however coming from the Bay Area this is a relatively isolated area, and I didn't expect much regarding breweries. Calexico Brewing is small but it's exactly the vibe (music especially) and taste I was looking for. The menu is just as small, but the prices are actually cheap! Personally I don't mind a small menu because I don't need 15 IPAs and it makes it easier to feel like I had a true experience of the brewery, not just 3 beers out of 20+ options. In addition, with beers being $6 at most, I actually felt happy to tip generously. In 2023, almost every single store turns that tablet around to force you to say no to an unnecessary tip, but here I didn't feel like I was being gouged to begin with, so I wanted to show my appreciation for the bartender simply pouring me some great pints. I had a seltzer, hefeweizen, and a mexican lager that were all winners (hefe pictured). To conclude, if you need that freshly tap-poured glass of brewery magic, head here now!

I don't live in Calexico anymore and it's so refreshing for my hometown to finally have a legitimately nice place to grab a beer. Pros: *Super friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable owners/brewers. *We happened to go on Wednesday when several people get together for a bottle share. They were gracious enough to let us join in the tastings even though we had nothing to contribute (except for our good taste). *The space is on the smaller side but very, very cute. They were displaying a talented local photographer's work for sale on the walls. *Their merch is awesome! They had a few cap styles/colors for sale. I bought one and it's so comfortable! Cons: *I can only really think of one...they were out of the IPA that we really wanted to try. All that said, this brewery is awesome and if you like good beer, go grab a pint and support these guys!

Gotta like this little place. Locals only vib. Still they welcome everyone. Impressive IPA for how small they are as well as the have sessions too.

Dope beer, cool music, and the office was playing I will highly recommend this to anyone from the area.

Prison Hill is the classic brewery serving a great variety of beers and food. Lineup for the night: Chango Malo (stout), Crimin Ale (cream ale), Peanut Butter Stout. Each beer was phenomenal in mouth feel as I like the richer, creamier beers. Chango malo had a lovely cocoa flavor. Peanut Butter stout actually tasted like peanut butter without being offensive. You can taste the peanuts behind the butter. The Crimin ale had a good mouth feel but pro tip - don't have a lighter beer between two heavier ones with spicy food. It gets a bit overpowered. On the topic of food, I had the Wrecker sandwich. Soft roll, smoked meat, and crunchy slaw made for a good dichotomy of texture in the sandwich. When you see smoke rings in a bbq sandwich, you know you're eating some primo shit. I'm not a big fan of spicy though but this was the right amount between the slaw and the fresh jalapeños. I felt like deviating from the usual burger and it was a good choice. Looking around at some of the other plates, I don't think I couldve gone wrong. Solid venue, good food, good beer, great staff. Usually I'm not into chains and handcuffs but if it means ending up at Prison Hill, lock me up baby.

So when it came time to eat, I thought, well, this could be a challenge. Then I noticed La Quinta Brewing Co, and saw they had beer too. That changed things quickly. We walked over from our hotel and were pleasantly surprised to find a lively, bustling spot. Instead of waiting for a table, we grabbed seats at the bar near the kitchen, which turned out to be a great call. We ended up meeting Casey, a food runner, and he could not have been nicer. We had a great time eating, drinking, and just chatting. There was also a private event happening inside the brewing space, something with city engineers. Even so, everyone was welcoming and friendly, and they let me step in to snap a photo of the brewing tanks and the proudly displayed American flag. The food was good, the beer was solid, and the whole team made the place feel easy and inviting. Honestly, it felt like an oasis in the desert. La Quinta Brewing Co earns high marks from me. Five stars.

I was excited to try it since I hadn't been back to this location since it was Tu Madres, which I was a big fan of. The menu looked promising, and having live entertainment was definitely a major plus. Unfortunately, our overall experience was a bit underwhelming. We made a 6:45 p.m. reservation through OpenTable and requested a high-top table. We ended up being seated at a standard four-top next to the restroom. While it wasn't our preference, the restaurant was busy, and I completely understand that it's not always possible to accommodate every seating request. One thing that was disappointing was the beer selection. The menu advertises craft beer, but under the "Craft & Canned" section it mostly listed domestic staples like Coors Light and Michelob Ultra. There were only a few craft options on draft, and unfortunately the ones our group tried weren't particularly enjoyable. The guys ended up leaving them unfinished and ordering cocktails instead. We ordered the French 760, which unfortunately missed the mark as well. It was overly sweet, and the sugar rim melted down the glass, leaving the stem sticky and messy to hold. The appetizers were actually one of the highlights of the meal. Both the fried artichoke bites and the fried cauliflower were flavorful and well prepared. Service is where the evening started to unravel a bit. After our appetizers arrived, our server didn't return for about 25 minutes. When he finally came back, he asked if we were ready for the check. We had to remind him that we were still waiting to order our entrees. Once we placed our order, the food arrived quickly. Of the entrées, the Steak Frites was excellent and easily the standout dish of the evening. Unfortunately, both the Pasta Pesto and the Pasta Vodka were disappointing. The penne was overcooked, and both sauces were very bland and lacked the flavor we were expecting. The true highlight of our visit was the live entertainment. This was our first time hearing Jessica Michelle perform, and she was phenomenal. While playing the keyboard, she effortlessly covered country favorites spanning multiple generations. Her voice was absolutely beautiful, and she created such a fun, welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be keeping an eye out for her future performances. We're not writing off The Local on 50th. I spent over 20 years working in the restaurant industry, from family-style restaurants to fine dining, and one thing I learned is that every restaurant can have an off night. It happens. There was enough potential here that we'd be willing to give it another try and hope our next experience better reflects what this restaurant is capable of.
