Stopped by today and picked up a rack of ribs, which were excellent. And a pint of potato salad and pint of poppy seed lemon cold slaw. The potato salad was great but the cold slaw was overwhelming in lemon flavor. Way to strong.. it was like eating a raw lemon. Maybe cut back on the lemon a little... read more

This barbecue is up there with some of the best in the country! The Dixie sandwich is my go-to, but I've never had a bad item--and I've tried almost all that they offer! We love the large outdoor seating area and shaded tables. Everyone is always so friendly. read more

We really enjoy Caldwells and have been coming here or ordering take out at least once a month since they opened. Their barbecue is very good and consistent. However our favorite treat to get was their banana pudding. Unfortunately it seems they've recently changed it. It's now smaller with less vanilla wafers and fresh bananas. The pudding tastes more artificial. They're now $4 vs $6 but I'd much rather pay more for the old size and recipe. read more

This is the best BBQ in Gilbert and probably the Wast Valley. Whether it's brisket, pork, or turkey, they just know what they're doing. We especially love using them for our thanksgiving feast. They never disappoint. read more

This was my first time here and i went in for some BBQ. It was my birthday so they gave me $15 off of my order, which was awesome. The staff was really friendly. We went in around 8PM, so somewhat close to closing time. The food was fantastic, but i think since we came in so close to closing time the food wasn't really hot anymore, it was just warm. Other than that it was great and i will definitely be back. We had a rack of ribs, which were fall off the bone tender, the sausage, the brisket, which was also fall apart tender, and a few sides. The Mac and cheese and potato salad were both great as well. The portions were also generous. It's definitely worth the visit! read more

Best brisket ever!!! Steve, the pit master, took the time to teach us about what it takes to smoke the different meats. I'm looking forward to trying the beef ribs on Friday or Saturday night. Soooo fantastic. read more

Had dinner here around 4:00pm on a Thursday and was not crowded at all.Beautiful spring day so we decide to eat outside, picnic table seating, which looks very inviting. Once inside you step up to order, first choice station is meat, then sides and desserts and then around the corner you choose your drink and pay. Total cost of meal was about $47. We made it this far, took our food and picked our sauces to head back outside to eat. I had the El General Patton sandwich ( $17 ),1/3 pound of chopped prime brisket, 1/3 pound of pulled pork and 1/4 link of sausage on a Hawaiian roll, added Lemon Poppyseed Cole Slaw to the sandwich for no additional charge. The sandwich came with one individual side, Aunt Susan's Corn Casserole ( $3 ),for me. Next...half rack of fall-off-the-bone Smoked Ribs ( $19 ). For dessert the Individual Pecan Pie ( $6 ),for a 5 inch portion. Sweet Tea and dill pickles round out my selection. Results, the sandwich was great! Three meats provide a nice sampling. Pulled pork was my favorite especially paired with their mustard sauce, fantastic. Ribs were next,a Texas seasoning of black pepper gave these meaty, flavorful ribs a great taste. Mine had a good tug on the meat to the bone, perhaps too much, but their house sauce again paired well. The two sides, corn casserole & coleslaw were excellent, and would be my choice again. Sweet Tea washed everything down and was refreshing. While we dined,a helpful employee asked if they could be of any assistance, bring to go boxes or remove our trays, nice. By the end of our meal the restaurant was hopping and the parking lot almost full, always a good sign. We liked Caldwell County Texas-style BBQ and would recommend them. Too full for my pecan pie I brought it home for later. And surprise,it was the sleeper of the meal, nice crust with plenty of pecans too, wonderful. read more

Updating my previous review. Stopped in Friday, after a terrible work week. Needed some sanity in the form of smoked meats. I had been walking and reminiscing around the ASU Poly Campus, which was formerly the Williams Air Force Base (1941 - 1993) campus. Many buildings still stand, and have had new life breathed into them thanks to ASU. I go visit about once a year, and walk for hours, revisiting the places and memories. Anyway. I though I would stop in at Caldwell's, and just have a few slices of brisket, to see if I could justify increasing my previous rating of three stars. I had only the brisket and a drink, which was around $15. A little steep for just three slices, but no regrets. The brisket was amazing. Great flavor, great texture, with perfect rendering of the fat. I did not hurry, and even the last bite was as amazing as the first. I have my new favorite in the valley. Thanks Spencer and team. read more

3.5 stars overall but rounding up, since they have a lot of different options for meats and sides, and their ribs were really good. We stopped by around 5:30pm on a Monday, and it was just starting to get busy. You place your order first, and they slice everything to order. You pay once you've finished ordering, and you can choose to dine indoors or outdoors. They have some seating available inside, but also a huge outdoor patio with picnic tables. We tried: -Prime Brisket ($24/lb, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=tZi7o8BiqqPX8eBExKs0bQ&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): I ordered the moist brisket, which was solid, but a little on the dry side for some pieces. My friend ordered their lean brisket, and said hers was dry. -Ribs (Half Rack/$15): Yum- very good ribs! They were tender and falling off the bone, and had a good smoky flavor- recommended! -El General Patton (Chopped Brisket, Pulled Pork, Sausage, Served w/Coleslaw, Pickles, $13, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=A5GqN5pnEBNA5LXDjd5osQ&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): Just ok. They give you a plentiful amount of meat, but the meats were dry. Not even the cole slaw and BBQ sauce could really save this sandwich. The sausage was just ok for me, and I probably wouldn't order this again. -Julio's Mac n Cheese (Individual Size/$2.75), Lemon Poppyseed Cole Slaw, Aunt Susan's Corn Casserole (Individual Size/$2.75) [https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Wy4M6g0Z2lqbEjzmejNEzg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg]: The mac n cheese was my favorite out of their sides, and nice and cheesy (although a bit too oily). The cole slaw was ok, but a little bland, as was the corn casserole. I would only order their mac n cheese again. The majority of their staff were wearing their masks correctly, but the mask kept slipping below the nose for one of their staff members. I hope they will be more diligent about reminding all workers to wear their masks correctly. I would come back for their ribs if in the area, but wouldn't drive out of my way for their BBQ. Parking was easy since they have their own lot. read more

I was in Phoenix for work and had to cover an event at Highland High School in Gilbert. While there weren't a ton of intriguing culinary options out that way, Gilbert's was the highest ranked place on multiple platforms, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Man, I am sure happy I did. I opted for the El General Patton, which is a sammy with brisket, pulled pork, and topped with a smoked sausage. Straight up to die for! The brisket was the MVP, but the others weren't too far behind. It's served with a side of slaw (solid, though I loaded mine up with black pepper and mixed a little hot BBQ in), pickles, and then your choice of one other side. I rolled with the mac 'n cheese, which offered the perfect creaminess to compliment the massive amount of hot bbq sauce I threw on my food. Portion size was massive, resulting in straight up gut buster as I had to go back to work until around 10pm. Staff was outstanding, both in terms of COVID awareness and service. Super friendly people who offered to clear tables/sanitize for you before you sat. Unfortunately, many of the patrons (you must keep in mind that Arizona is quite chill on their COVID laws) did not follow standard protocol too much. However, if the Governor isn't forcing them to do so, can you be upset with them? Overall, I"m not in Glibert a ton when I'm in PHX, but if I am, I'll definitely be back to Caldwell's! read more

The best brisket that I've found since I first discovered brisket a few years ago in Texas. I had pretty much given up on finding edible brisket outside of Texas after Lucille's got me excited by featuring Texas Style Brisket on their menu. I had to try it, and thankfully I did not have to finish it. What a disappointment in my search for brisket and in Lucille's. Well, Coldwell County reinvigorated my passion for brisket and I am looking forward to introducing friends and family to this simple and amazing BBQ place. read more

I've been here many times... only had a bad experience 1 time. If you ask me that's pretty decent for how busy they get. It can be hard to shake off the negative vibes of a previous customer...I think that's what happened. But the most important part... THE FOOD IS ALWAYS THE BEST BBQ I'VE EVER HAD. read more

Amazing BBQ. We were visiting from San Diego and found this place on Yelp. A little hard to find but well worth the visit. Loved the taste of the turkey breast. Nothing special. Nice people working there. Food was just ok. The sides looked like they had been sitting for quite a while.

Best BBQ I've found anywhere nearby, hands down. The parking lot sucks, park across the street at the warehouse store. The line is often 30 minutes. There's not much seating inside. read more

When you're a serious FOOD OPERATOR and know how to do it right. The BBQ is 5 star. The sides depend on personal taste. I had beans that were really good but I'm not a bean guy. I am a potato salad guy and it was very good. Nice selection of beer desserts and drinks. NOW!!! Let's talk sauce to go with that incredible meat. I like a mustard sauce and theirs does not disappoint. I'd say 5 stars. I wasn't in the mood for a tomato based sauce today but I tasted it and I have to say it too is a winner. Friendly accommodating staff. Greet you when you arrive. Did I say how good the meat was? FIVE STARS+++ read more

Have been to this barbecue restaurant numerous times. The brisket is good, the ribs are good; the only thing I haven't been able to get here is a good spicy sausage. They have a sausage that has jalapeño in it, but it's not what I would consider spicy. Otherwise, all of the sides are delicious, love the beans, The slaw is good, and they have a delicious corn pudding. The service is as good as you can expect. you order your food at the counter, and they put it on your tray fresh. The restaurant has indoor seating and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating, has both covered and not covered. If it gets a little cool out, they start the patio heaters. This is a good place to eat, and they care about what they serve. read more

This place is awesome! The counter staff handed out samples of melt-in-your-mouth brisket, which is a fantastic way to start your stay at Caldwell County BBQ. I had the pulled pork and BBQ turkey and can rave about both but next time I'll definitely get the brisket. All of the staff are so attentive and helpful and two of the sweetest girls came to clear our table when we were finished. To finish off my visit, I got a tour by Pit Master Steve. He gave me such great info on how to smoke meat on our own smoker. What a great guy! I live in Indiana but when I'm back in the area, I'll definitely stop again! read more

Got the el Paton sandwich. Overall decent but nothing mind blowing and liked the 3 sauces at the table. Mac and cheese was good and the cornbread was great. Hands down best thing there was the banana pudding. Not super sweet but just delicious. Would really like to see them add a platter option with multiple meats and sides for people who want to experience all their offerings but overall a solid BBQ place here in the east valley. read more

BBQ as we all know is hard to mess up, BUT only a few places truly do it SO good to leave a "I need more of that feeling" in your mouth. Caldwell, my dear friend, kitchen away from home, delicious little meat tenderizer... we love your flavor! The brisket is top notch every day, all day, busy or slow... always fresh, juicy, and tender. Even my kids (4/8) appreciate a good bbq smothered brisket from you all. Yes, I say "you-all" because I grew up in AZ and that's what we say, BUT we lived in TX as well and I must add, YA'LL nailed it! TX+AZ=Caldwell BBQ Love PS. My 4 year old still try's to open the blue door on your wall because he believes me when I say there is a bbq hidden garden behind there. ;-) read more

Excellent Bbq great portion sizes, my mom and I split a sandwich because it was our first time, it was very good, love all the sauce choices and side choices. Everyone was very friendly, totally looking forward to trying the pecan pie next time. Only thing I would maybe change is I wasn't clear on if I could get just like a 2 or 3 meat plate and what the pricing would be on that so went with the sandwich to test it out. The whole place is simply adorable though the inside is great and l love the outside area, it's so pretty and I bet at night it's even better, it's always nice when a place puts thought into the ambiance as well as the food. Also love that the smokers have names, totally made me giggle. read more
