Where do I start? Cal Net bought out Internet Planet and promised more bandwidth and charged more money. During the six weeks we had them as our provider we had down time with no service for 5-6 hours daily between 9 am and 6 pm on average on most days. I kept a log of how many times I called for technical help; it was 22 times in six weeks! The on call technician always told me that they showed no problem on their end but someone would call me back to further investigate. Only once was I called back and they were unable to provide us with a connection. Too much frustration for a household with kids trying to do homework and people just trying to rely on a consistent service. It was a happy day when I cancelled. We ended up going with Starlink for less money and have had zero issues since. read more

OK so this is comprehensive review of not only the internet service you will recieve, but also of where the customer service has come over the years. I was a customer for well over 10 years. MAybe even 15 years but being conservartive. We started with a lot of issues but the company cared about the customers and really did a lot to try an make our internet the best it could be. We even had the best internet they could provide for 6 months. fast forward to recent times. Our internet was spotty at best and we had direct sight to the repeater which is needed for better internet. When I called because our interent had been down for over week we never received any calls back. I finally decided to go with a Vorizon hub (we had it as a back up just in case) and found it to be more reliable and with faster speeds. When I called Cal.net again to say we would just cancel since noone called us back they could care less. I was pretty disappointed. This company is locally based and I wanted them to succeed. You can not succeed if you do not care about your customers, It is a bummer but pretty sure this company is on a path to failure. read more

Do not believe any of the fake reviews or numbers they tell you. I am lucky to get 1mbps in the middle of the night when no one else on. My ping has never reached bellow 100, and is normally 300-500. We've been a customer with Cal.net for 7 yrs. For the last 3 months, our service goes out from 7:30pm -8:30pm 7 days a week! I call in 5-6 times every week and complain and they keep saying they'll look into it. Even the supervisor/manager is too busy to take my calls! We used Winters Broadband until they were taken over by Cal.net, and have continued with Cal.net up until now. The cost per month has always been hard to swallow but Winters Broadband seemed to do more in the way of tech support and resolving urgent matters even though they were much smaller and did not advertised 24/7 tech support. Cal.net's tech support usually amounts to someone asking you if you have unplugged your router to reset it, which is something I do before I resort to calling them. When that doesn't resolve the issue, they just say it will be escalated to someone once they are back in the office.This seems unacceptable to me when I pay an arm and a leg for already terrible internet speeds and you advertise 24/7 tech support. read more

Getting information from CalNet is worse than pulling teeth. Corp. doesn't answer the phone. They also have 3 salesmen, NONE of them answer the phone.. I asked some tricky questions via text like How much per month, data caps, etc.. The questions are evaded, NOTHING is published. After asking 4 times, I have now been told that there is a life time cap of 300G of data, YES I said life time, you then have to buy more data at $70.00 per 300G and they shut you off, NOT slow you down, when you reach 300G, even though you pay them $129.00 per month, $120.00 router fee, $99.00 install fee. If I could give a lower rating, I would. Signed up for 25mbps at a whopping 240/mo. Not a single day had gone by where I was actually getting that, but most importantly the service had several outages per day, making it nearly impossible to maintain in work meetings or my sons classtime. I spent weeks of constant calls with no resolution and they refused to send anyone out until 3 weeks into the issues. The technician left with nothing fixed and no answers for me except "maybe you should just switch to the lower mbps package since we can't get the speeds you want". You can't talk to billing. I dunno. I'm not sure what happened. They sent someone out. There was discussion about where to place the equipment for the best reception. (A tree?) I thought 20 yards into our goat pasture was a little odd, but apparently that was the only option. The installer said he was new and would have to have someone else come out and double-check. He was nice enough, but did seem very inexperienced. It doesn't matter, though. After he left, we never heard from him or Cal Net again.‍ P.S. I did call and complain about the cost while the installer was here. Over the phone, they reduced it by $40 a month. Maybe they didn't want to honor that. But, like I said, I never heard from them again, so who knows. read more

They bought out winters broadband band which was already terrible and did the unthinkable, they made it worse. Starlink is available but that take my word for it. You just have to preorder to get the process started few weeks later you should have your dish. That was my experience. No more garbage internet with hollow promises and service fees to service managed equipment you paid extra for with your previous contract only to find out they don't want to honor it and want to charge you more. What a poor excuse for a company. I had them install internet for our rental in June. Tenant cannot log in because it requires a password. I did not set up password, but apparently the installer did. I have called 5 times and spoken with 5 different people, and no resolution. They keep shuttling me off to someone else and insisting that someone will call back to fix problem, but it never happens. You have been warned DO NOT GO WITH CAL.NET Please read! To be honest I've given this company 10 years of my business and every-time I've given them the benefit of the doubt that they would make things right or get things fixed. I was very, very wrong to stay with them this long. We've experienced plenty of issues but this last one was the kicker. A few months ago they came out and "upgraded" our equipment. The moment we were upgraded we started experiencing disconnects every five minutes, we weren't experiencing these disconnects before on the old equipment. Mind you we pay $110 every month. My kids couldn't play their games and we couldn't watch TV without disconnecting or buffering every five minutes. I called tech support multiple times only to never get a call back and when I did get a hold of someone they said to reset your router and that everything looked good on their end. It got to the point where I finally got so mad I pretty much yelled at the tech to get a hold of a manager to make them realize we are indeed having issues. Finally I did, his name was Reese. Reese apologized for customer service I experienced and said thats not what they stand for. I felt better, Reese told me to work directly with him going forward, great right? Reese had multiple techs out that indeed now see my issues I was having...hmm... they changed wires, looked for better signals and even took care of my bill for a month for the problems we went through. This was great but one problem, we still couldn't fix the disconnects. This took a month to get to this point. Reese and the tech advised me that I need to install the dish up in a giant tree. That meant I had to pay a lot of money for a tree climber to come out. I was unsure about the whole thing from the get go because this all started the moment we were upgraded and it was expensive to do. Well I was convinced by Reese that the service would only get better being up there. He was wrong, the service continued to disconnect every 5 minutes still???. We also started experiencing longer disconnects as well. So the kicker is they started to charge me again, even though nothing has changed other then me paying for a climber. This is where the true customer service of Cal.Net comes in. I figured this was a mistake so I called left a message for Reese everyday for a week straight with no call backs. I called a regular tech and asked to be transferred. They said they would get my message across and he would call me back. Never got a call back its now 11/30/2021.Last I heard from Reese, the manager, was on 11/4/2021its been 26 days. I finally called today to let them know I'm going to the better business bureau, shocker I got someone on the line immediately. I've been told from the manager I talked to, that it will get fixed. I really hope so but, I have my doubts. This issue is going on three months now. If I were you I go with someone else. I would also advise current account holders to go to the better business bureau like I will. This company is not providing the service they promised and should be held accountable. I'm honestly surprised they haven't been sued. Point is, I'm sure you can tell just by their 2.3 star review that I'm not the only one having this issue. I've never had a choice for internet service, but I guarantee you that I will switch the first chance I get. I think, with the way technology is heading, cal.net will be out of business unless they address their current customers issues instead of ignoring them; or worse, telling customers the problems are on their end not cal.net's end. If you notice, seems like most ratings are either 5 stars or 1 star. That is a clear indication that something is broken with the cal.net system. Folks in Cameron Park are getting much better service than folks in outlying areas. I'm paying for 6 MB download but on most evenings I get less than 1/2 MB download, but still have to pay full price. It's frustrating when cal.net assigns the blame to my end of the service. We have had Cal-Net for a few years and have had mixed results. At times it worked quite well, at other times it was slow, buffered constantly, or disconnected. Like many of the other negative reviews, when you call Support all you get are requests to check your router and to "reset". I usually go through all those steps before calling. The company policy always seems to be "Blame the customers equipment". When we do speak with someone it is always "It looks good at our end". Of course, it does, you are the source point (DUH!). We complained to the Better Business Bureau and had calls from a supervisor who actually came out and upgraded our equipment. It worked fine for a number of months, but is now back to extremely slow speeds, constant buffering and disconnections. We can hardly ever stream any shows except during the day. It almost seems if Cal-Net throttles down the speed in the evening just to screw with their customers. I guess it is time for another Complaint to the BBB, and the California Attorney General. All of you other dissatisfied customers how about filing a class action suit? Cal-Net certainly has taken plenty of our hard earned cash! read more

This rating is,in a way, averaged over time. 2 1/2 stars if it were possible. Have been a cal.net customer for five years, and they seem like a wholly different organization than two to three years ago. Five years ago, customer service would try to solve problems, and if they couldn't that day would kick it up the chain of command. Problems that weren't fixed that day were fixed the next one or two days by guys with ladders if necessary. Would have given four stars then; five for work ethic and effort. Now, more like one or two stars. Customer service is not trained/allowed to do more than a few rote diagnostic maneuvers and call backs from engineering are slow. Some of the technicians are stellar (Chase, I'm looking at you) and others just trying to do a quick patch and on to the next job. I have twice in the past two to three months had no wifi for one to three week periods for what now seems isolated to a rooftop cable problem involving five year old cable with an average use expectancy of two to three years. Cal.net support has suspected as much but has stalled on doing the necessary reinstallation for months. This has cost us countless phone calls with 15-25 minute holds which often drop at 15 minutes. Looking at their website and promotional statements, I would like to point out that expansion without the ability to maintain your existing network is a disservice to your old customers. The foothills abound with businesses that exist because they have no meaningful competition. Please be an exception that fulfills a much needed niche with excellence and not just adequacy. read more

Cal net internet vs DSL. I've seen post where people are asking if there's better service then DSL. We recently switched from AT&T DSL to Cal Net. The cost was $8 more per month. The speed was four times the DSL speed. You can get even faster for a reasonable price. If you have a line of site to the tower, your most likely good. IT IS WELL WORTH IT. The one thing to keep in mind, once you give up DSL you can't get it back. We are happy no regrets. read more

I am having work done on my roof at home, so Cal.net scheduled to come out and take down the wireless receiver on my gable end and will reinstall it when the roof is completed. Meanwhile they have free high-speed Hotspot access to the public at their office in Shingle Springs, and didn't mind if I used their conference room to do work for a few hours. THIS IS HUGE, and saved me a drive to Sacramento. More importantly, is great to know and wanted to share to all onlookers that can also stop by and use this free service. They do have a air conditioned & comfortable lobby if you ever need to stop by and check e-mail, send documents or have a cup of coffee - as long as you don't mind the occasional conversation from staff walking by! From the first call to learn what Cal Net had to offer to using their product, this was the best service I have ever experienced with an internet company. The salesman was knowledgeable & not pushy in any way. When I committed to their service, I received email confirming appointment & a reminder. The technician arrived in the beginning of the time slot before I got there to meet him. Fortunately the lock box was still there so I was able to let him in. Before I decided to write this I read the reviews and attempted to call them. I was thinking about changing service providers a few months ago and someone mentioned them. Not bloody likely now. Yesterday, my husband noticed a van in our driveway with the door open. Went out and found a guy ON OUR ROOF who said he couldn't find the RADIO on the roof. We don't have a radio on our roof. We also don't have CALNET. After 5 minutes of back and forth it was determined that he was at the WRONG HOUSE on the WRONG ROOF but had OUR address. He had put a ladder up to the balconey and climbed up on the balcony and then onto the roof. We have an 11/12 roof pitch. I am sure had he fallen off he would be suing us. I see them all the time next door so clearly THEY have a service issue. Finally got a tech support guy to answer after 15 minutes. Absolutely worst customer service and tech support I have ever dealt with. I'm used to IT people being pompous, but I have had to call them 5 times in the last 3 days, each time the people answering the phone have been demeaning and rude as if I haven't tried to solve the issue myself prior to calling. I casually and calmly explained everything I had done each time and their tech support did not listen to a word I said and instructed me to repeat what I had just done while on the phone with them, one man even snapped at me saying he's been doing this for 30+ years and majority of the time the customers router is the problem or its the customers error not theirs. My mom has worked in IT for her entire adult life (46 years) and has taught me a lot of the basics. That same gentleman eventually realized it was their issue and apologized for their tower having a problem and that they would relay the message to the engineers. On top of that each time i have called they claimed the issue had been resolved, even though the recording had said there were ongoing outages and there was not an estimated time of resolution. I work from home and need internet, they had not showed any sympathy and continued to talk to me as if I was a child. The problem has not been resolved and when I asked billing if I would be getting a refund for the time spent without what I pay for the billing department said simply it was out of their control. I found out that T-Mobile is offering now offering service for internet in my rural area and as soon as I can get that up and running i will be cancelling the extremely slow connection (0.13-1.26mbs vs for 5-7mbs that i pay $80/mo.) that Calnet has been providing. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, THEY WILL TREAT YOU POORLY AND NOT GIVE A REFUND... I would give the install team a better review as when they showed up, they were very kind and helpful but, anyone that doesn't have to see you face to face will treat you as if your another number. read more

I've tried Cal.Net they just can't seem to provide enough service to even watch a movie on Netflix let alone try and work from home on my computer, can't even open a email. Also they give you a service window for a tech to come out between 10am and 2pm they show up at 9:45am and leave because your not home and tell you to reschedule then they show up a hour late on their next scheduled appointment and that's supposed to be acceptable. I have used Cal.Net for the internet and they have been ok. As of June 30, 2022 they can no longer provide DSL. Ok, however I have paid for the DSL 'til March 2023 and called Cal.Net three times for a refund. I only got the run around, "we will call you back" (they didn't) and "give us a couple of days". I pay for 10+ Mbps and I get an average of 1-2, and that is on the best of days. I've had them since they bought out CVB which I had since dial-up as they're my only option, but I'm considering switching back due to dial-up's consistent reliability and cost. I average internet problems a few times a week and can count on total outage or unusably slow speeds at least a few times a month. Their customer service is trained to give the least helpful answers. I have performed a router reset several times, Jim, your company is just crap. I wish they would get with the program and fix their coverage reliability and speed instead of trying to expand and grow a larger customer base.
