Visited this establishment on numerous occasions and purchased several specialty cakes and pastry items. Their baked goods are always fresh and delicious. The bakery is usually busy with customers, but the staff is friendly & fast. However, they could benefit from some system of organization with taking orders and checking people out. They have customers walking around aimlessly not sure if there's a line or service by number or by order. I was particularly annoyed on day I came in to pick up a cake that was previously ordered and paid for a birthday celebration and military welcome home. There were several people in the store asking how customers were being served and some started forming a line by the door. I had a paid receipt and several people had rushed past me to get through the door. I went to the counter with my paid receipt to ask if I had to stand on line or could I just collect the cake. Another customer rushed in front of me to start a confrontation of who had entered the door first. Meanwhile, several other customers just entering the store were already being served. The staff did not want to get involved and did not really help in this situation. Maybe if there was an actual line or organized system for serving customers then this would not be an issue. If such a system does exist then staff should make customers aware of it. Service issues do affect customer satisfaction and should always be considered as a top priority. read more

I've always gone to the Cake Chef's Cookie Jar bakery on Forest Avenue because I crave their cookies, cupcakes and brownie bites. But when I needed a cheesecake for a BBQ, I decided to try their other location on Jewett Ave. The staff there was friendly, as well as very helpful. A really nice gentleman behind the counter even gave me a small sample of one of their cream puffs. It was fantastic, as was the "Crazy Cream Puff" I had already ordered. Honestly, I really don't need all those calories but you only live once. That "Crazy Cream puff" was even better than the one I sampled. It had a lighter cream inside and was huge, hence the name "Crazy Cream Puff". Lol But that Cheesecake....OMG, it was to die for, and definitely a big hit at the BBQ. Shockingly, it was only a plain cheesecake. And anyone who was fortunate enough to get a piece that day, raved about how wonderful it truly was! Thank you for making me fat Cake Chef. Best bakery on the island hands down! We always get our cakes from James!! They are delicious. Wish they would have gluten free options besides flour-less chocolate cake ( which is to die fort btw) but I remember the red velvet and my god it was amazing! read more

Wife is pregnant and I ate the last slice of carrot cake she had brought home from her shower without offering her any. She walked in on me shoving the last bite into my mouth, and WOW... if looks could kill. So I went here for an apology carrot cake. They had one ready to go, and it wasn't even particularly expensive. I liked the raisins in the cake, and the density/moistness of the cake, and that the frosting wasn't too sweet. Really, my only complaint was that the icing to cake ratio was way off- not enough cake at all. But other than that, yea- really nice carrot cake. Also I made sure that when we finished the cake we both had a slice at the same time so no dirty looks. read more

The specialty cake I ordered which cost $200 came out looking like a 5yr old frosted it. This was after a week and a half of trying to get in touch with the cake "decorator," who never actually got in contact with me to discuss how the cake would look. No employees at the bakery were able to tell me how they would be able to decorate the cake. They told me to email me pictures then just kept saying they couldn't do exactly what I wanted. I had to have them fix the cake when I went to pick it up, then brought it home and decorated it with sprinkles and candy tombstones I made myself. Very disappointed with the service and overall experience. This is what the cake looks like after decorating it more at home. Definitely expected more for the money and better service. read more

That cheese ring is GOLD. One of the highlight of my food adventures through the east coast. Got the red velvet cupcakes and the cannolis too, but the money maker and what will make us go back is the CHEESE RING. If only they could ship them.. Hopefully one day. read more

I've been planning my graduation party for six months and I knew I wanted my cake from this bakery. I imagined two tier cake with rosette icing but I took estimates from a few bakeries and it was too much for a graduation party. I went on cake chef photos and found this photo and took inspiration. I also knew I didn't want any basic flavor chocolate or vanilla so I chose a mocha. Cake chef sampled me flavor of the mock mousse and I fell in love. The ombré colors was also amazing. Oh man!!! I tried CakeChef for the first time.... TOTALLY DELICIOUS!!! I had the chocolate frosted, and the cheese crumb donuts, and I must be honest... I didn't know donuts were supposed to taste that good. I'm so used to Dunkin Donuts, that now I see what a true fresh donut is supposed to taste like. I only rate places I really enjoy, and this bakery is at the very top of my list. I am a NYC Transit Bus Operator, and learned of CakeChef through my passengers, who all were very content with their products and service. I order here a few times now I order from there all the time for Any special occasion! There red velvet cake is hands down the best and I tried a lot of red velvet cake!. There chocolate cake is great also. I hate the butter creams and the whip cream frosting. I love there cakes because there frosting are great. They remind me of a good southern bakery even tho they are an Italian bakery. read more

The reason why this place gets a one is. As I walked in Cake Chef I asked the lady at counter. " Excuse me Miss is there any chocolate cakes left?" said no there isn't we only have a chocolate bun. Then she asks the lady next to her do you think we have any chocolate cakes in the back. She says I don't know. Maybe I don't know. Like umm you work there go check! Supper rude let me walk out with out saying oh Miss Let me check let me try to help you. NOTHING. They may be a 5 star place but being rude doesn't take you far. read more

Ordered my wife a Red Velvet Cake from Cake Chef. This was definitely one of the best Red Velvet Cakes I have ever tasted. Vibrant red color and the cream cheese icing was not overwhelmingly sweet. The cakes here are delicious and the chef really puts the top ingredients in all of his desserts. Can't wait for the next birthday to have more cake from here. read more

Probably the best bakery around here for a custom cake, this place is always very busy, so order in advance if you can. Been raving about this place ever since my friend bought me a red velvet cake from here and finally came to the store for the first time today. Red velvet cupcake is still ahhhmazing. Its soft and fluffy. Frosting is as awesome as ever. Service is nice too. I called them when I was in Brooklyn to ask if they had 2 dozen red velvet cupcakes available for me to buy. They didn't have anymore, but they said they will bake it for me within 30 minutes. I drove over there and got there in like 25 minutes. The cupcakes were already done! Awesommmme. I love this place. Will definitely try other things next time. read more

Do you like cake? I love cake! When I found out I was going to be moving to this miserable island they call Staten, I wasn't too happy. I mean sure my friends weren't that far away, and not much really changed, but I mean still Staten Island, it kind of sucks... a lot! But just like every cloud there was a silver lining, the delicious cakes that my cousins had been bringing to my house for holidays for years, they came from a bakery only a few blocks away... Needless to say when I moved out here 5yrs ago I weighted in at about 145lbs, within a year of living so close to this gem I was easily 170lbs (I will never get that gym rat badge). These cakes are soooo good, they are sinfully good. I used to work as a bartender, and one Sunday I knew the manager wasn't going to be there so I brought one in for the boys... Every Sunday became cake day. When you see 10-15 big dudes huddled over a little red raspberry tart cake you need no other validation as to how awesome this place is. Just a quick breakdown of the awesomeness: raspberry tart cake, French cheese cake with Oreo crust and raspberries, ice box cheese cake, blueberry melt aways, pumpkin melt aways (around Oct-Nov), coconut cake... Really generally everything I have ever eaten there is great, you do get stuck eating the same thing over and over again though as the prospect of not having it is to much to bear. Also and this must be pointed out NO CREDIT CARDS! This business is cash only, there are ATMs in the two stores next to it though. read more

Looking for something to do this weekend? Have you experienced the cannolis or prosciutto bread from Cake Chef? No? Well, what are you waiting for? There are a few reasons why I feel as though Cake Chef wholeheartedly earns its five stars of merit: 1. Cannolis-delicious cream, chocolate chips, crunchy yet sturdy pastry. I was asked if I wanted powder sugar. As far as I'm concerned it should be a standard ingredient on the dinner table, along with bacon. 2. Prosciutto bread-They only have it on weekends, it is the only thing they import from Brooklyn, and it sells out quick. Here is why: It is crusty, yet light bread with delicious chunks of ham. Worth a road trip alone if you don't live on the island! 3. The Service-I asked about the bread and was told that they didn't have any since it was Wednesday but that I could always call on a Friday night and have them put some aside for me. What a bunch of sweethearts! 4. Prices-Although we only got cannolis, they were only $2 a piece. The place that I consider them to be the best around my way are $.75 more and nowhere nearly as good. Well done Cake Chef. You are as good as it gets! read more

awesome cakes, super moist had the red velvet. ive tried a lot of red velvet cakes (being from the south) and the cake here was the most moist and soft/fluffy ive had. icing had a nice cream cheese flavor too. they also do a red velvet cupcake which is just as great. best traditional red velvet in new york ive had, and its far, far better than magnolia bakery and billys i do wish that someone would make a nontraditional red velvet that is not red, and that is less sweet read more

Even now after moving to NJ, Cake Chef is still our favorite go-to bakery. The staff and owner are very friendly and accommodating. Obviously the cakes are delicious. My favorite cake to order is their vanilla cake with chocolate mousse stuffed with bananas. I recently ordered a cake to have served at our super bowl party and I wasn't very specific about how I wanted the cake decorated since it wasn't for a special occasion. However, they went above and beyond and I ended up with the cutest super bowl cake ever. read more

I recently purchased a 7 layer cookie cake, you know the Rainbow cookies with the red, yellow, green layers, for my cousins birthday. It was so good, I went back the next month and got it for my husbands birthday. It was rich, dense and delicious. A quarter sheet cake is $40 and was more than enough to feed 13 of us. Amazing customer service! A great welcome when walking in. This place is small the original of the franchise. We came in for a cake and some cookies. We decided on a fresh strawberry shortcake and a variety of their delicious cookies. My fav the lemon flips, choc sandwich cookies, pecan apricot bars, rainbow dip. All were super good and fresh. I went to CakeChef due to the high reviews and delicious cake and paid for a decal only to be lied to . Instead of a decal, a piece of paper was pasted on the cake and I was specifically told when picking up the cake that its a decal and its edible. I am extremely disappointed and will never use this bakery again or recommend them to anyone else. If they were unable to do the cake I wanted honesty would have gone a much longer way. read more

For 40 dollars, I got the prettiest black forest cake for my birthday. If I had to pick one word for Cake Chef sweets its 'quality'. The cake was heavy but it wasn't too sweet and had a ton of cherries in every slice. They definitely don't skimp out on ingredients here which means that everyone was impressed and I didn't need to spend a lot. It was really simple to make an order and pick it up- no issues. Unfortunately, they don't take credit though, so make sure to bring cash! read more

I have heard that Cake Chef had the best cakes for so many years. I have never ordered one until 2 weeks ago. I ordered a sheet cake for my daughter's engagement party. I was worried because sheets are rarely ptetty. I took the plunge because I knew the reputation for taste would override a mediocre looking cake. Not only was the cake outstanding in taste, but the cake artist went above and beyond to make it pretty! I look forward to them making the wedding cake! read more

Finally, Marie & I had a chance to head over to the address in search of some hopefully top-quality Gelato (something we mostly have to travel into Brooklyn or the city for!) Upon pulling-up to Sweet Sweet Susan, we were truly impressed with this cute little sweets, coffee, & cake gem. The inside was cozy and adorable, with relaxing places, both inside & out, to enjoy the treats that one picks at this wonderful post-meal gift to Staten Island! Did we find some decent Gelato? You bet! We enjoyed the following flavors: Rainbow (7-layer) Cookie, Dark Chocolate Chunk, Mango & Banana Nutella. All four flavors were the best Gelato we've had on Staten Island, by far. I also ordered a cup of coffee (black with splenda) that was just meant as a quick drink with dessert, but also turned out to be a rich treat and one of the better cups of straight coffee that I have ever tasted while eating out (a bold, dark, rich cup of special Italian coffee that had hints of smokey, nut-like flavor notes.) Marie was able to pick from a large selection of really nice herbal teas as well. Usually I am not a fan of tiny dessert cakes, however a red-velvet "cake kiss" came free with my coffee, and upon popping it in my mouth (it melted into joyful goodness mixed with white chocolate icing) I became a fan. Lining two levels of selves, on both sides of the counter, were dozens of homemade like, soft and delicious, gourmet cupcakes. After all that Gelato, I couldn't enjoy them in the cafe, so we brought home a Chocolate and a Peanut butter & Jelly Cupcake that were both fresh and "out of this world!" Sitting and enjoying our flavor-rich Gelato in the main lounge of Sweet Sweet Sue's, was like relaxing on the coach (literally) of your loving Aunt or Grandmother's house (providing they really know how to bake and their taste in decor borders a little on Alice in Wonderland.) The Couch was comfy and we could listen to music, utilize the free Wi Fi, or kickback and watch TV while we ate (Sue's husband even offered us the remote, to put on whatever we felt like watching.) We quickly realized that Sue's true calling was deluxe gourmet custom cakes, surrounded by astonishingly creative cakes that were every bit as breathtaking and exemplary of creative baking expertise merging with high level imagination, as anything we have seen on Food Network cake shows. There are offerings for the Vegan crowd, or for those that have to watch their sugar intake, but large bakeries of Staten Island beware, it is difficult not to cheat just a little on ones diet, once you enter this very special Cupcake Cafe!
