When shopping around for a wedding cake, I knew exactly what I wanted, pictures and all. We weren't having a huge wedding, but I still wanted a big, beautiful, multiple-tiered cake. Through all of my wedding research I found out about "faux" cakes (where all or certain sections of the cake are fake, with other sections being real cake), and decided that this was the greatest way to get exactly what I wanted - a big, multi-layed cake without mountians of cake leftover!
I visited two cake shops in Pleasanton (Nolands and Primrose Bakery), and was told right of at Nolands that they 'don't do fake'. (Last time I checked, they made most of their money from decorating, not the dough) At Primrose, the guy actually sat down with us and explained to us that it would actually cost us almost twice as much to do a faux cake than a real one because they would be using styrofoam instead of real cake. After sitting dumbfounded for a moment, I decided to leave to find another place whose staff wasn't incompetent.
Cake Delight was the next place I visited, and after explaining everything I wanted, the lady working with me told me that faux cakes were getting pretty popular with brides wanting the 'dream cake' without paying an outrageous price tag.
She brought out a plate full of cake samples that were absolutely amazing. My husband couldn't go to this visit with me so she actually packed up and labeled some samples for me to have him try later that day! I told her that I wanted a four-tiered cake, so we decided that two of the tiers would be real, while the other two would be the faux cake. I showed her pictures of exactly what I wanted it to look like, and she sketched and wrote lots of little details, right down to excluding the sugar pearls, and included the exact width of ribbon needed for the cake. She let me know exactly what I needed to do and when (like when to drop off ribbon and particulars I needed to find out about the reception venue). She was very thorough and I left there with tons of confidence that I was going to get the exact cake I wanted.
On the day of the reception they were a little late delivering the cake, but it was still setup in time before anyone arrived (These days are stressful enough without having things late though). Once everything was setup it looked so pretty and it was almost exactly like the picture I had shown them when I first ordered it. Everyone loved the taste of the cake, even some friends of ours that 'aren't cake people'. Everyone was also in awe at how beautiful the cake turned out, and I loved it so much that I set up the "faux cake" tiers in the middle of my dining room table for a week just to look at it. (It was that gorgeous)
I will have no problem going back whenever I need a cake to celebrate! I was very happy that they were able to provide a gorgeous cake that tasted delicious and that was also reasonably priced! Many kudos! read more
