There is an opening just outside with some picnic tables. Parking is located on the street. But, you can totally walk there if you wanted, since Cape Charles Main Street area is small and manageable. Service was great. The two younger girls helping me choose items were fantastic. They seemed to care and help They have delicious shortbread offered in various flavors. I have never had coffee flavor before, and that is unique. They also had chocolate chip, cranberry orange, lemon, and original. Those are the flavors I remember. I purchased a peanut butter cookie and that was so good! It had a nice soft center with a slight crispy outer edge. The peanut butter flavor was strong but not over powering. I will definitely be purchasing more flavors in the future. Pair it with a delicious coffee or tea and your set. They offer other baked items and offer a few sandwiches. I have never eaten them, but I have seen them. They look appetizing, and they are jam packed with ingredients. Their hours will fluctuate during different seasons, so be sure to check into their hours before visiting.

While visiting Cape Charles for…read morethe first time two weeks ago, I stopped by Brown Dog Ice Cream since I wanted a dessert following dinner and saw a lot of people walking down the street with their ice cream cones and they had solid reviews. The shop isn't brightly lit, it's on the dim side, and you need to walk to the back of the shop to start your order. I came towards the end of the day and it wasn't crowded--there was one other person in line--but despite this and the long walk to the end of the shop I wasn't greeted by any of the staff. When I got to the start of the order line I was the only one in it and I looked at the overhead menu for some plant-based ice cream (google stated that Brown Dog Ice Cream carries plant-based ice cream options), there was an employee standing there who saw me standing in line and search the menu but didn't greet me or ask if I was ready to order--then I made eye contact with her to make sure she saw me obviously standing there and she STILL said nothing to me. Fortunately, there was another employee who came over and acknowledged me and kindly asked how she could help me. I let her know I was looking on the menu for plant-based ice cream but hadn't seen it. She let me know that Brown Dog does serve plant-based ice cream options but only in the summer months. I thanked her for her help and walked out. Because of the cold-shoulder I received when walking in and from the first employee, I won't be coming back for the summer plant-based options. I hope management hosts a training with all of their staff on how to treat people that walk into their shop...you kindly greet people when they walk in and when they are next in line, you greet them and ask how you can help them. Hopefully this improves.

It's a quaint little shop where you can buy fresh seafood, groceries, as well as different pastries and other dishes at the deli counter. I was originally in the mood for an Italian sandwich, but after speaking with the employee working the counter, I got a Shrimo Po' Boy because he said "The way we make em here, you won't find anywhere else." After one bite, I realized exactly what he meant; the shrimp were so fresh that I just knew they were caught straight out of the Cheseapeake Bay that same morning. I was also a fan of the thinly sliced French fries. I got a lemon square to eat after my sandwich, and it was also so good that I grabbed a slice of rainbow cake to go. The rainbow cake was good, but a tad dry, so definitely go for the lemon square if you're looking for a dessert here. All in all, the beach market is a great stop for anybody looking for a quick bite to eat or to support a local grocer in Cape Charles.

They served tasty and hearty corn and crab chowder. Growing up, I was a sucker for old-school steak fries. These are not them. Just a wide as steak fries but sliced ribbon-thin and very well seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and maybe a little parmesan. And if you enjoy a thick fat Italian sub, this is it. The bread was a crusty ciabatta roll. What made the difference for me on this Italian sub was that it was nicely toasted... holy smokes! The Beach Market is, indeed, a market, too. We popped in for a casual beer break, and it quickly turned into one of the highlights of the day. The space itself is gorgeous! It's open, airy and designed with a laid-back coastal vibe that fits Cape Charles perfectly. You order both beer and food inside at the counter, which keeps things easy and low- key. I went with the Pilsner, and it was exactly what I wanted, perfect after a day out exploring. Their beer list has something for everyone, whether you're into lighter options or something with a bit more depth. We didn't order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked incredible. They've got plenty of options like burgers, nachos, and other brewery favorites that definitely seemed worth trying next time. What really stood out was the atmosphere. There was so much going on in the best way. They had a dog adoption event happening outside while we were there, which added such a fun, community-driven vibe. They also host live music and other events regularly, so it feels like there's always something to check out. The outdoor space is huge and perfect if you're with a group or bringing kids. There's a fire pit, games like cornhole, and plenty of room to spread out and hang for a while. Definitely the kind of place you plan to stop at for one drink and end up staying much longer. I will be adding this to my must visit list anytime I'm on the Eastern Shore.

When we came last year, it seemed like they were having an off night. We came today, however, and this will be our last visit. Our bill was over 100 (2 adults and 1 child, water to drink), and had the most disappointing food ever. Everything was incredibly bland, to the point of almost inedible. We began with a half-dozen order of oysters, which had very little meat. Even more frustrating was how they were served - they were full of shells mixed into the meat and dry (all the water had been dumped out), which meant that the people shucking did not know how to properly shuck an oyster. The crunch of the shells also made for an unpleasant eating experience. The lobster rolls had absolutely no flavor. I have never not finished a lobster roll in my life, but about halfway through I just gave up. We wanted to order crab cakes, but they were out (note that they've been out on our last several visits - this time we were there right when they opened, so they could not have run out). The children's chicken tenders appeared to have come straight out of the freezer. The Caesar salad was tasteless. I ordered the local vegetables and was given the option of Brussel sprouts or broccolini (these have been the options every time I've visited no matter the season). I was disappointed, since there is great produce on the Eastern Shore in the middle of July, none of which includes the fall/spring produce of Brussel Sprouts or Broccolini. The Broccolini wasn't cooked, but appeared to have been warmed while doused in olive oil (but no salt or other seasonings). The middle was still cold. We saw our server only a few times when she took our order and dropped off our food. Someone else dropped off the oysters, and dropped the oyster fork on the floor. She picked it up, apologized, and promised to return but we never saw her again so had to eat the oysters with the forks we had used for the caesar salad (not the best combination). The oysters weren't great to begin with, so it probably didn't make much difference. I'm disappointed in the Shanty, and disappointed at how much we spent on such a mediocre meal. I won't return.

While walking along Mason Avenue, I made reservations at The Shanty, and it turned out to be a great choice. The restaurant is just a short stroll from the main shopping area, down by the docks. You can park for free along Mason Avenue or drive directly to The Shanty, which has its own parking lot. One of the highlights was enjoying fresh seafood on the open-air porch with beautiful waterfront views. The atmosphere was relaxed, charming, and perfectly summery. They also had plenty of options for the kids, including mac and cheese and chicken fingers, so everyone was happy. I ordered the fish tacos, while my mom enjoyed the seafood chowder and a wedge salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for after a day exploring Cape Charles. If you're visiting the area and looking for a casual waterfront meal with great seafood, a family-friendly menu, and a fun coastal vibe, The Shanty is definitely worth a visit.
