Mason Avenue Bakery has been around for a while now in Cape Charles. Under a new owner and they continue to thrive. Located on the corner across from the local candy store. There is an opening just outside with some picnic tables. Parking is located on the street. But, you can totally walk there if you wanted, since Cape Charles Main Street area is small and manageable. Service was great. The two younger girls helping me choose items were fantastic. They seemed to care and help They have delicious shortbread offered in various flavors. I have never had coffee flavor before, and that is unique. They also had chocolate chip, cranberry orange, lemon, and original. Those are the flavors I remember. I purchased a peanut butter cookie and that was so good! It had a nice soft center with a slight crispy outer edge. The peanut butter flavor was strong but not over powering. I will definitely be purchasing more flavors in the future. Pair it with a delicious coffee or tea and your set. They offer other baked items and offer a few sandwiches. I have never eaten them, but I have seen them. They look appetizing, and they are jam packed with ingredients. Their hours will fluctuate during different seasons, so be sure to check into their hours before visiting. read more

This shop was very cute and a must stop. We grabbed some shortbread to go, the lemon was amazing. The kids grabbed a croissant and a chocolate chip cookie and I got a coffee to walk around with. I am visiting on the off season and didn't realize how many places would be closed. Luckily this bakery was open. Very cute inside, it's very inviting. The woman behind the counter was so friendly and even tried making recommendations based on what she knows was still open (thank you!). Aesthetically everything was perfect, it was hard to choose just one pastry. I got the sourdough loaf and the cheese danish and the lemon cheese danish. I've been here every morning since I've been here so it seems time to leave a review. I love this bakery. All I can say is GET HERE EARLY. Each minute that passes by in the morning leaves you with less and less choices when you get there. Their croissant/cinnamon bun (I forget what they call them) is awesome, as is their chessie (ham and egg on a baguette), lemon and cream cheese tart (soooooo lemony), vegetarian muffin (I forget what this is called, too, but it is a savory muffin with an egg at the bottom of it - it's delicious but needs to be lightly heated to be at its best; cut it in half and microwave it for 40-50 seconds), and my favorite, the jalapeno cheddar scone. Their monkey bread looks awesome but has been gone since I saw it and didn't get it the first day. Also, quick note that the almond cream croissant is made with almond cream, not filled with almond cream. They also have a good iced coffee. read more

Charming little bakery in historic Cape Charles. We arrived a few minutes before 9:00am, they opened at 8:30. They were already out of chocolate croissants. By the time we placed our order at 9:17 they were out of plain croissants and cinnamon twists. I get that everything is freshly baked, but it seems they need to plan a little better than that. There were 4 girls behind the counter, but they only waited on one customer at a time, with one girl having to repeat everything in the order to another girl to ring them up. I ordered a bagel with lox spread and got veggie spread, we also had the monkey bread, blueberry muffin and a breakfast sandwich, all of which were good. read more

Lots of people saying the same thing, but I want to make it clear: the sandwiches are simple, classic and fabulous. The bread is as close to France as I have ever had. I LOVE this place. For those who are not from Virginia, you need to have the one with Edwards' ham. Made in Surry, VA and is perfection. A good place like this gets crowded and is not fast like Jimmy John's. Order online and come by later. You will be glad you did. Mason Avenue Bakery is in a very close tie with el ranchita food truck for best lunch in Cape Charles. Mason Avenue bakery is in the same site as the former "Bakery on Mason" and happily continues the excellent selection and quality of baked goods. I was so happy to see a bakery had moved in! I talked to the cashier and it seems the new owners bought the location and recipes lick, stick, and barrel so all our favorites were back. Highly recommend the baguettes, sourdough, cinnamon twist, and sandwiches. Be forewarned, the line forms early and can be long. Understandable, given the quality. Stop by! read more

After vacationing in Cape Charles, we discovered Mason Avenue Bakery. The inside was clean and well kept. The baked goods on display all looked very good. The raspberry tart, chocolate walnut brownie and all of their sandwiches were fantastic. The service was quick and friendly and they helped make recommendations. The best little beach bakery! Stopped in after parking in the public parking lot nearby. Just wanted to grab an iced coffee and maybe a bagel for breakfast on the beach. I was so pleasantly surprised to find much, much more than a bagel shop. I couldn't decide on what to get-everything looked amazing! The two young ladies at the counter were very helpful, even made suggestions. The rest of the staff were all upbeat and pleasant in the background of the store, just adding to the atmosphere. I ordered the open faced almond croissant with an iced coffee and man, it was SCRUMPTIOUS! $8 and change was extremely generous in pricing so I was sure to tip. The responder is misrepresenting my review. I was in the establishment the day before Easter, and inquired about carrot cake. Since I hadn't pre-ordered one, that was out. I saw mini cupcakes in the case and asked how much? At that time they was a young lady (high schooler perhaps) and an older lady, which I assume was the owner or a rep. The older lady asked the assistant to look up the price, and she quoted $5 each. Now if the mini cupcakes are $1.75 as the responder suggests, then I can only assume that the bakery was price gouging for the Easter holiday. So, no, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

We are in Cape Charles for the third time, but this is the first time we have tried Mason Avenue Bakery. I am not sure why, because holy cow this is a no miss. This is probably one of the best bakeries I have ever been to. I will be dreaming of their chocolate croissant, their almond pastry, their buttery soft and crunchy corners. The wait is always half an hour, apparently, and the staff seems a little confused at big orders, but they are all kind and helpful. The atmosphere is quaint and mysterious, somehow, and I think the wait adds to the allure. read more

This is a lovely bakery right by the beach in Cape Charles! I've gotten probably 10 different bakery items from here and everything has been truly amazing! We are so glad that Mason Ave bakery lives on! This is always our must last stop before we head home to NY from our annual Cape Charles vacation. We had placed 2 large orders over the phone, and I realize that this place caters more for small orders, but they were very patient as I rattled off a gamut of items! When we came for pick-up, Mary came out to personally ensure we were good for everything, and we had plenty of goodies to last us the 7-hour drive home. The next morning, the only thing left was one scone which my husband and I shared (I did not want to share, but after 27 years, you kind of have no choice, lol), the funny thing-the NYT Wordle on that day was scone!!!
