This will be my 5th Summer going to Cape Charles for 10 days with Family and Friend's. I cannot wait to stand in line for THE BEST baked goods and DELICIOUS sandwiches for boat and beach. Absolutely love, love, love this local bakery. Highly recommend!!! See you next week!!

I am visiting on the off season and didn't realize how many places would be closed. Luckily this bakery was open. Very cute inside, it's very inviting. The woman behind the counter was so friendly and even tried making recommendations based on what she knows was still open (thank you!). Aesthetically everything was perfect, it was hard to choose just one pastry. I got the sourdough loaf and the cheese danish and the lemon cheese danish. The bread was delicious and the danishes were some of the best ones I've ever had. This bakery is a must!

Walking in you are hit with the fresh aromas of baking breads. This is a 10/10 bakery! The women at the counter was so friendly and personable. It is so cute inside, the absolutely perfect small town bakery vibe. We tried the cheesecake, pumpkin pie, chocolate chip cookies and cheese danish. Absolutely devoured it all!

Great service. Super friendly. Cookies are amazing!!! Good sandwiches. Have stopped multiple times in the few days we were here

Charming little bakery in historic Cape Charles. We arrived a few minutes before 9:00am, they opened at 8:30. They were already out of chocolate croissants. By the time we placed our order at 9:17 they were out of plain croissants and cinnamon twists. I get that everything is freshly baked, but it seems they need to plan a little better than that. There were 4 girls behind the counter, but they only waited on one customer at a time, with one girl having to repeat everything in the order to another girl to ring them up. I ordered a bagel with lox spread and got veggie spread, we also had the monkey bread, blueberry muffin and a breakfast sandwich, all of which were good.

After vacationing in Cape Charles, we discovered Mason Avenue Bakery. The inside was clean and well kept. The baked goods on display all looked very good. The raspberry tart, chocolate walnut brownie and all of their sandwiches were fantastic. The service was quick and friendly and they helped make recommendations. I recommend taking a visit if you are in Cape Charles.

Got myself a Cinnamon swirl which was good. Did not have a variety of drinks. This bakery is family owned and service was great!

The fact that they sell out so quickly every-single-day is a testament on their own. Everything I learned about this place was hear-say so take it with a grain of salt but their food does speak for itself (which I did in fact get a chance to try). First of all, they have a number of sandwiches that are pre-made and to my understanding, there's no customization. From what I can tell, they come on white bread (I think?), croissant, and focaccia but if you know me or my reviews, then you know I stopped looking once I saw focaccia. They sell out quickly so make sure you get there early enough to land you what you want and it's tucked away and hidden in the back of a really cool store you'll want to give yourself time to shop. And if all of that isn't enough, the sandwiches are themselves are phenomenal. An absolute must-visit and a perfect "take to the beach to be harassed by seagulls" lunch.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a whimsical, nautical meets industrial interior. Think exposed brick, quirky elephant and octopus artwork, and cozy seating that feels both inviting and upscale. It's the kind of place where you'll want to linger over your meal and soak in the unique ambiance. As for the food, it did not disappoint. I started with the Ale & Onion Soup, and wow. This was comfort in a bowl! The robust flavor of Guinness melded perfectly with the caramelized onions, and the bubbling gruyère on the toasted bread points just took it over the top. It was savory, rich, and perfect for the chilly day. My friend went for the She Crab Soup, and couldn't stop raving about it. Creamy and absolutely packed with local crab meat. The puffed oyster crackers and a sprinkle of Old Bay were the ultimate finishing touch. I managed to sneak a bite, and it was heavenly! We also asked the bartender for a fun cocktail, and they whipped up a bright, lemony drink that was as refreshing as it was beautiful. It was perfectly balanced and not too sweet, served with a citrus twist. Service was great. Friendly, attentive without hovering, and happy to make recommendations. If you're in Cape Charles and looking for a spot that nails both food and atmosphere, you can't go wrong here. Already planning my next visit!

It's a quaint little shop where you can buy fresh seafood, groceries, as well as different pastries and other dishes at the deli counter. I was originally in the mood for an Italian sandwich, but after speaking with the employee working the counter, I got a Shrimo Po' Boy because he said "The way we make em here, you won't find anywhere else." After one bite, I realized exactly what he meant; the shrimp were so fresh that I just knew they were caught straight out of the Cheseapeake Bay that same morning. I was also a fan of the thinly sliced French fries. I got a lemon square to eat after my sandwich, and it was also so good that I grabbed a slice of rainbow cake to go. The rainbow cake was good, but a tad dry, so definitely go for the lemon square if you're looking for a dessert here. Just a wide as steak fries but sliced ribbon-thin and very well seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and maybe a little parmesan. And if you enjoy a thick fat Italian sub, this is it. We popped in for a casual beer break, and it quickly turned into one of the highlights of the day. The space itself is gorgeous! It's open, airy and designed with a laid-back coastal vibe that fits Cape Charles perfectly. You order both beer and food inside at the counter, which keeps things easy and low- key. I went with the Pilsner, and it was exactly what I wanted, perfect after a day out exploring. Their beer list has something for everyone, whether you're into lighter options or something with a bit more depth. We didn't order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked incredible. They've got plenty of options like burgers, nachos, and other brewery favorites that definitely seemed worth trying next time. What really stood out was the atmosphere. There was so much going on in the best way. They had a dog adoption event happening outside while we were there, which added such a fun, community-driven vibe. They also host live music and other events regularly, so it feels like there's always something to check out. The outdoor space is huge and perfect if you're with a group or bringing kids. There's a fire pit, games like cornhole, and plenty of room to spread out and hang for a while. Definitely the kind of place you plan to stop at for one drink and end up staying much longer. When we came last year, it seemed like they were having an off night. We came today, however, and this will be our last visit. Our bill was over 100 (2 adults and 1 child, water to drink), and had the most disappointing food ever. Everything was incredibly bland, to the point of almost inedible. We began with a half-dozen order of oysters, which had very little meat. Even more frustrating was how they were served - they were full of shells mixed into the meat and dry (all the water had been dumped out), which meant that the people shucking did not know how to properly shuck an oyster. The crunch of the shells also made for an unpleasant eating experience. The lobster rolls had absolutely no flavor. I have never not finished a lobster roll in my life, but about halfway through I just gave up. We wanted to order crab cakes, but they were out (note that they've been out on our last several visits - this time we were there right when they opened, so they could not have run out). The children's chicken tenders appeared to have come straight out of the freezer. The Caesar salad was tasteless. I ordered the local vegetables and was given the option of Brussel sprouts or broccolini (these have been the options every time I've visited no matter the season). I was disappointed, since there is great produce on the Eastern Shore in the middle of July, none of which includes the fall/spring produce of Brussel Sprouts or Broccolini. The Broccolini wasn't cooked, but appeared to have been warmed while doused in olive oil (but no salt or other seasonings). The middle was still cold. We saw our server only a few times when she took our order and dropped off our food. Someone else dropped off the oysters, and dropped the oyster fork on the floor. She picked it up, apologized, and promised to return but we never saw her again so had to eat the oysters with the forks we had used for the caesar salad (not the best combination). The oysters weren't great to begin with, so it probably didn't make much difference. I'm disappointed in the Shanty, and disappointed at how much we spent on such a mediocre meal. I won't return.

I ordered the fish tacos, while my mom enjoyed the seafood chowder and a wedge salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for after a day exploring Cape Charles.
