    Smoothie bowl
    Ruby S.

We stayed at the attached hotel and the Almeta offers a small complimentary breakfast to hotel guests (fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, granola, cereal, orange juice & coffee). We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast as well as ordering some extras! The cashiers are so kind and really made your morning! I got the smoothie bowl on day 1 and really loved that it was on a bigger bowl so the ratio of smoothie to toppings were better! The next day I got avocado toast in sour dough and added bacon! We also got iced coffees every day, my favorite was the honey lavender! They have tables for couples and families as well as a very cute bar seating by the window. We enjoyed the convenience of this breakfast spot but I did think it was a tad pricey.

The ambiance is wonderful, several seating areas, comfy chairs, reg tables and bar seats. I ordered. Cortado and an espresso. The glassware they used is very nice and appropriate for the drinks. Did not try any of the food. The espresso was way too dark (it tasted burnt), not my taste. The service was okay, not exceptional. I noted that the girl who helped me took a break from cleaning the floor to take my order and make my drink, she did not wash her hands first. Food handling no-no.

The owners of Sawdust Road in Pungo and Battlegrounds in Great Bridge announced their opening of another sister coffee shop/cafe on the Eastern shore - The Almeta. I've been huge fans of both for a long time, of course I had to pay the new place a visit when I was in the area. The service was polite, but not overly friendly. They had several options on the menu for both food and drink. I opted for the chicken salad sandwich and the orange hibiscus drink. The sandwich was pretty good! Not the best chicken salad I've had, but good enough to satisfy my empty stomach after a bike ride. The drink was perfectly refreshing! I would go back if it were convenient, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

The salted honey latte was sooooo good. We also got the breakfast bowl and the avocado toast with pickled onions and tajin. The atmosphere is great and the food and coffee even better. High recommend.

I will be dreaming of this coffee until our next trip to Cape Charles! It was so good! I got the coconut mocha and my husband got the blackberry bramble latte. We both agreed it was one of the best cups of coffee we've had... and that's really saying something as we are big coffee people! We also got the 'house Becky'- bacon, egg, and cheese bagels. Very good! I'm a big fan of the chipotle aioli they put on it.

Me and my girlfriends came here after we discovered that the coffee house was closed for the day. We were skeptical after visiting once and how expensive it was but decided to give it another try, and I wish we hadn't. One of my girlies had a hair in her food, and when it came out the second time it was not made the same as the first time. The bacon was frail, skimpy, and did not even taste good, not worth the extra $2. We got Nutella toast ($9), only one piece. Same with the avocado toast which was $11, you are not getting your moneys worth when you come here, and you have to buss your own table which i usually wouldn't complain but when it's this expensive I don't think that should be a requirement. Would not recommend and it's sad to say this because I'm a local and always looking for some good breakfast. I will say their coffee was not bad.

After we crossed, we realized quickly there was almost nothing of value to stop at. That was until my wife saw the sign for Buttercups. We saw the good rating and hurried over. Super cute Lifetime special movie looking cafe in the middle of a tiny town that once had a Indian Reservation. My wife had a bagel with fig, mascarpone, and more on a cinnamon bagel. A+. I had an order of biscuit and gravy and it was amazing. Not oily or sludgy, it had a nice spicy kick, wasn't salty at all, and was on the flakiest of biscuits. For dessert?? A kick-butt chocolate croissant. It IS a bit pricey, but I WILL stop here any time I pass by. Heck, it was something special to see one of the servers snipping fresh mint out of a garden bin for a meal. Definitely a MUST stop. P.S., these people were super friendly and anyone saying otherwise needs a hug and nap - period.

The shop was very busy for a late Saturday morning, but the service was super friendly & we moved through the line quickly.

While walking along Mason Avenue, I made reservations at The Shanty, and it turned out to be a great choice. The restaurant is just a short stroll from the main shopping area, down by the docks. One of the highlights was enjoying fresh seafood on the open-air porch with beautiful waterfront views. The atmosphere was relaxed, charming, and perfectly summery. The Shanty is not a large restaurant, but it has an amazing bar and great views from their deck on the bay. My wife, an orange crush connoisseur, said the Shanty's crush was very good! They also have a nice beer selection including local area craft beers. The Frogman Lager on the menu has been one of my favorites when I visit VA, so it was nice to see on the menu. We started off with a 1/2 dozen local oyster, which were nice and sweet. The crab dip was amazing and full of crab! We split the shrimp Po-boy. The sandwich was loaded with plump tasty shrimp on an amazing roll. Typically, in beach towns the shrimp Po-boys are skimpy on the shrimp, but not at the Shanty. Overall, a great visit and a place we'd return.
