We were in town for our daughter's 12th birthday and needed a cake. After a quick Google search of local bakeries we settled on Smallcakes. Ordering was super easy as was pick up. The cake itself was absolutely stunning and my daughter said it was exactly what she wanted! The taste was spectacular and very lightweight. This is a cute cupcakery with plenty of options. I went with the tiramisu flavor and my sister got the hot chocolate one. While she loved the hot chocolate, I found the tiramisu flavor lacking. I went in there to try this location and get something sweet. I've had the Boston cream and rev velvet cupcake before and it was good. I decided to try the sampler since I've only had the vanilla cupcake. The sampler comes with two chocolate and two vanilla. The sampler was decorated in there holiday design. Pink vanilla - pink buttercream on vanilla cake. Great frosting. Boston cream - chocolate frosting topped with "custard" on vanilla cake. The custard was more of a buttercream, but I'm happy. I LOVEEEEEEE SMALLCAKES!! There hasn't been a single location that I've been to between VA & NC that I've had an issue with. The cupcakes are always delicious!!! We got Cookies N Cream today for the first time. The cake was super moist & the buttercream was heavenly. I tried not to overdo it with the carbs, but Lord knows I wanted to buy more. I was good and only got one for myself. SIGH!! Anyway, the shop is located in a shopping center with many other stores. There is ample parking. Loved the Cupcakes from here. I used to be a baker myself, and I enjoyed the flavors that I tried. The cakes are soft, moist and not overly sweet. Most of the sugar comes from the frosting it seems, which I prefer because I can control how much I eat. Today, I tried strawberry and Boston Cream. Both were delicious and didn't disappoint. I like mine less sweet, so preferred the strawberry more, but if chocolate ganache is your thing, definitely try the Boston cream! I'll be back to slowly treat myself to all their flavors! read more

I went for the first time today since I am in town on vacation. Loved the wall decor and it was clean. It's a walk in place with no tables to sit down. I went late afternoon and got a strawberry cupcake and a red velvet. The woman was friendly and customer service was fine. They did not have a lot of choices but that's not necessarily a bad thing. They're put in a box that has slots to hold the cupcakes in place which is smart. The strawberry one was delicious. Just like a piece of cake. It wasn't dried out at all for being late afternoon. I recently placed a special order for a friend for her birthday she loved the sweet potato casserole cupcake that was a special during November. So I called to see if they could make this seasonal cupcake and place her favorite pet on top, a duck. The price was very reasonable for a half dozen and the cupcakes looked great. I had been dying to try this place for a while so I finally got to go when visiting my parents and I was not disappointed. As huge fans of Georgetown Cupcakes and cupcakes in general, this place falls a bit short...but is still pretty tasty. We ordered a pink vanilla, chocolate, blueberry cheesecake, and strawberry cupcakes. The strawberry and chocolate are very good! They get an 8/10 on my scale.
