    We got the breakfast Jambalaya with rye break and a side of crispy hash browns and two mimosas. AMAZING

    Service was super super fast on a Saturday morning Easter weekend. I did feel rushed to order as two people came to ask for drinks and two people came to ask for our food order within the first 3 minutes of us being sat, First time here but it is Easter weekend. Great service though!! We got the breakfast Jambalaya with rye bread, a side of crispy hash browns and two mimosas. AMAZING. We shared and both of us are stuffed. Super flavorful. Deff recommended.

    Worst biscuit ever.

    Ok the ambiance is ok, strip mall dining, service is ok, cordial. The food? Realllllly has slipped. The biscuits , a wad of flour and Sysco butter, Grits completely devoid of seasoning, catfish was nasty._Realllllly bad. The coffee is bitter, guys you need to step this up. Quite awful.

    Jamalaya = Jambalaya

    Cajun cooking was started by the French who settled Acadia, a region in Canada, but got kicked out by the British in the French & Indian War. Many of the Cajuns moved to Louisiana to settle and used local ingredients which may not have been available in Canada. The French Créole are French citizens born in French colonies such as Louisiana. Later African Americans in Louisiana also referred themselves as Créole. Créoles also based their cookIng on French cuisine although it may primarily have been inspired by Île de France. For a while one could generalize and say that Cajun was more about country cooking while Créole was more citified. However, since both groups have lived in the same region for 250 years, there has been quite a bit of cultural diffusion to the point it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the two cuisines. Cajun Kitchen Café is conveniently right next to a bank atm in a ubiquitous, nondescript shopping center. Outdoor patio dining during the Pandemic. Prepare to wait for a table at this well frequented eatery. We went for Sunday lunch around 11:30am. Our waitress and supporting staff were friendly, accommodating, and responsive making sure my ice tea was full on the hottest day of summer. The food once ordered came out quickly. 1) Beignets came out soft, sweet, and pillowy with the outer layer having a dryer bread texture dusted with white, powder sugar.  Mini pitcher of maple syrup. 2) Corn Bread is standard. Bit mealy, soft, moist. Not much of corn fragrance. Whipped butter. The Apple Butter which is thick, caramelized, smooth, sweet was a great marriage to the corn bread. 3) Jamalaya is Créole Jambalaya with red tomato & spice infused, hint of piquant chile , thickened sauce. Plump Shrimp kissed by moist, ocean sweetness. Cubes of meaty, smoky Andouille sausage along with chicken & ham. White rice thickens as well as acting as a bland counter to all the spiciness. A sprinkling of Tony Chachere's Louisiana Pepper Sauce will kick it up a notch. 4) Unsweetened brown tea is just ok. Is it the local, lackluster water or a mediocre tea mix or both? There may be better Cajun-Créole cuisine, but this is good food for a small, agricultural California town thousands of miles from Nouvelle Orléans. 3+ stars. The BEST pancakes I've ever had super soft and fluffy! I've also tried their breakfast burrito and it was AMAZING! They always give you big portions which I really appreciate because it makes it very worth every penny. I highly recommend Cajun Kitchen Cafe!

    We were winetasting in Santa Ynez - Santa Barbara Wine country and some of the staff mentioned we need to go here for breakfast. We sure did and we were not disappointed. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. Cajun kitchen is now our must go to breakfast place when winetasting.

    My friend and I came here for breakfast when we were in town for the weekend. I have family from New Orleans, so I MIGHT be a little judgy when it comes to cajun cooking. It should be bursting with flavor and the best dishes can transport you back to the French quarter in the summertime. That was not the case here, but I get it, it's tough to have that authentic flavor in a small town. A lot of people don't like it. I really wouldn't call this place "Cajun Kitchen Cafe" because it's not truly authentic and most of the menu is not cajun. We started with an order of hush puppies and bloody Marys. For breakfast I ordered the jambalaya with eggs (I asked for poached), served with cornbread & apple butter. My friend ordered the blackened catfish with eggs and grits. Overall, the food was pretty bland, but again, I expect big flavor, especially with jambalaya. Sadly, it was pretty bland and very soupy for jambalaya. I did love the poached eggs. The catfish wasn't really "blackened" and didn't have much flavor, but it was okay. The Bloody Mary just tasted like tomato juice and was pretty weak. Luckily, there was plenty of the Tony's cajun spice blend and hot sauce on the table to help them out the food and blood mary. There were two things that I loved--the hushpuppies and the apple butter. The hushpuppies were a nice pop-in-your-mouth size and would super crispy. They were flavorful and delicious. Next, the apple butter that was served with the cornbread--not remotely cajun but delicious!! It tasted exactly like the apple butter my Norwegian grandmother used to make when I was a kid--and I was so so happy. I almost bought a tub of it to take home, but its a long car drive and any week now I'm going to start a diet. For a regular breakfast spot, it's not bad, but if you thrown cajun in the name of the restaurant, I'm going to have expectations. It's really more of a "cajun nod" cafe. Service was friendly and attentive, the restaurant was clean, and the wait was pretty short--we waited about 5 minutes. I'd eat here again, but probably just go with a typical breakfast, other than ordering the hushpuppies. I will also smother everything in apple butter.

    I love this spot. I usually just come straight here instead of American Hosts. Here, the service are good and the food as well.

You order at the counter and then they have you sit at a table - they do not allow you to sit before ordering which I liked. It allows for the kitchen and staff to stay on top of orders and to help everything run smoothly - plus it cuts down on allowing people to save tables. We ordered the Belgian Waffle, Corned Beef Hash, Biscuits and Gravy and Danish Pancake. Everything was fresh and delicious, including the coffee and fresh squeezed OJ! The inside has a decent amount of seating, I believe there might have been an additional room as well, plus outdoor seating. Staff were very friendly and personable! They came around and checked on us, refilled water/coffee and cleaned plates. Overall, we absolutely loved this place - we almost came back again on Sunday, but the line was really long and we needed to get on the road to head home! Fun fact: Brekkies is British slang for...breakfast! Also, the owner of Brekkies also owns 2 or 3 other businesses in town included Chomp Burgers which was also very good! If you're ever in Solvang and looking for a breakfast/brunch spot, I highly suggest checking out Brekkies!

Staff is welcoming and check in on you often. Hope you enjoy!

I usually get 2 eggs over easy with home fries and toast. Quite happy with my choice. You won't go home hungry. We weren't in a hurry which was good because the high school cross country team arrived around 10:30am on Saturday. The waitresses of course were super busy serving everyone. I think they did great. If you get grumpy having to wait, maybe go to a fast food place. We will definitely be going back. Just maybe not at 10:30 am on a Saturday. Looked at the other negative reviews. You have the option of returning over done food (if you don't, don't complain). Mold on the crust of bread is unfortunate, but I don't believe it was deliberate. Their bread turnover rate has to be so high, why would the cook think it could be old? I have had dishes that were still with stains such as lipstick after being washed at restaurants. You just show it and get it replaced. My goal is to keep Budget Cafe in business. With all the meals served, the negative reviews are a small percentage of their overall business. No restaurant is perfect.

I found this place on social media and knew I had to try it, especially the "egg in a jar" with purple potatoes and toast soldiers (I can never resist a purple potato or a fun name). The space is small and charming with plenty of outdoor parking. They have a lovely outdoor dining area with lots of seating. You order inside at the counter, get a number, and they bring everything out to you. The menu is full of delicious, bready dishes, and I loved that they offer a wide selection of coffee drinks -- even matcha. You can find macchiatos, cortados, and more here. We ordered the egg in a jar with toast soldiers, a baguette sandwich, a matcha latte, a cappuccino, and of course a chocolate croissant to go as a sweet treat for the road. If I could afford the calories of eating bread every day, I'd be here daily. Every bread item we tried was incredible. The croissant was buttery and flaky, exactly as it should be. The baguette sandwich had the perfect balance of crunch and softness. And the toast soldiers were the ideal size and texture for scooping up the cheesy, creamy, eggy goodness in the jar. We visited on a Monday and it wasn't too busy. Staff was very friendly. If I lived closer, I'd be grabbing fresh bread from here all the time. A must‑stop for any bread lover exploring the area.

It was grilled beautifully with great flavor and texture, and it was perfect for scooping up every last bite. I also had to try some of the baked goods before leaving, and they were just as impressive as the savory food. You can really taste the care and quality in everything they make. The service was efficient and straightforward. It wasn't overly warm or chatty, but it also wasn't unfriendly. They seemed focused on getting orders out quickly and keeping things moving.
