Good not great. Went to Boothe's corner so should have expected the stripped down experience. It's crowded there. Noisy. Sat on stool. Crawfish was fried breaded. So much I couldn't get any crawfish flavor. That said the roll, the tomato, the lettuce, the pickle was excellent flavors along with a splash of sauce. The coffee was great fresh and hot. Wifey had the jambalaya and it had chicken shrimp and sausage and a good amount of tasty rice. Recommend takeout. We will be back to try more. read more

I was in the Wilmington area on Black Friday and was looking for some excellent catfish. I went to the right place! I ordered the catfish fingers, cajun popcorn shrimp, a New Orleans po'boy, and a tomato garlic parmesan soup, and some beignets for the family. Everything was delish! And this farmer's market is wonderful! What an array of vendors and food. YUMMY! That catfish was a cornmeal-breaded, spicy, but not too spicy masterpiece! You gotta get the fried shrimp po boy with all the fixings. We also got the gator po boy but it was not fried gator but rather a whole gator sausage link. It tasted like a regular sausage. Po boys jut taste better with fried seafood. The counter staff was nice, the one girl was waving at everyone. It was pleasant to see. My daughter and I stopped here this week while traveling through the area. EVERYTHING we ordered was absolutely delicious. We tried frog legs for the first time and they did NOT disappoint, perfectly cooked with amazing flavor. The fried crab and corn mac n cheese... OMG! never even knew this was a thing. The seafood Gumbo, collard greens, red beans and rice with sausage, and tomato soup were all so so good! Wish we lived closer to enjoy her food on the regular. Had the full size softshell poboy fully dressed, last night. I felt at $28 it was a bargain. I shared it with my husband so $14 per. Whale sized softshells on both sides but almost seemed more than one per side. I've had them in Nola and in Maryland but Cajun Kates is the standout. 3 stars for the friendly staff and prompt food service. I got the beignets and my mother took home the jambalaya. I'm used to light, puffy and fluffy beignets and these left more to be desired. The taste reminded me of a sugar-free coffee roll - mostly just cinnamon and pretty dull. My mom seemed to like them though. On the other hand, she didn't like the jambalaya (and she's from the south). When she heated it up the house smelled of old hot dogs. She took a couple of bites and threw the rest away. Absolutely love this place! I have been to both locations and they never disappoint in quality or service. Although, I will probably only go to the Booth's Market one again if I were taking it to go, as it is a small stand with only 4 barstool seats. The food is amazing! There is no other place that compares to the flavor and quality of Cajun Kate's that I have found in the Philly area-- and I have tried a lot. You cannot go wrong with ordering because everything is delicious and fresh. The po'boy sandwiches are widely popular. However, I am a die-hard fan of their jambalaya. Wow we did not expect amazing Cajun food in Booths corner, but Cajun Kate's did not disappoint! We got a muffaletta, jambalaya and beignets (and got collared greens, more jambalyla and red beans and rice to go for the next day ;). Everything was delicious and the owner, Kate is so nice! Any questions, just ask her and she can let you try a sample if you aren't sure of something. The beignets do sell out early FYI so get there around lunch if you want them. Seating at the counter is limited, but they have a few stools and take out is quick and they keep the line moving. read more

We finally got around to trying Cajun Kate's last weekend. Most of the time, the line is so long we just don't bother. This night, however, we were there late and everyone else was long gone. That's when they start announcing specials at all the booths around the market. After hearing an announcement about $2 off the jambalaya and a large size of the beignets for the price of a small, we headed over to Kate's to check it out. The beignets were great, although never having had one before, I didn't have anything to compare them to. They were freshly fried and coated with powdered sugar (which goes all over the place when you take a bite - might be a good idea to wear white next time!). I liked that they weren't super sweet like donuts. I didn't try the jambalaya since I don't eat shrimp, but my husband and daughter really liked it - apparently it has a nice heat to it. To get the $2 off, we had to buy the large which brought the 32 oz. size to $14. Not a bad deal - there's a lot packed into that container. Anyway, now that we've tried Cajun Kate's, we'll be going back. I have been trying to get my husband to try the Gator on a Stick and I would love to try the Muffaletta sandwich. Oh and Kate's parents were visiting from Tennessee while we were there so I had a nice little chat with them while I was waiting for my beignets... Being from the South myself, it was nice to hear some friendly Southern voices for a change! read more

I had read that they have been in that tiny stall at Booth's Corner for 10 years! If anyone needed a business expansion it's these guys, Don and his wife Kate. Cajun Kate's is still the only place I've found in the tristate area to get a correct po'boy. I've never been disappointed with the ones here whether it's catfish or shrimp. They also have gator and sometimes oysters. They will adjust the spice level if you ask. I always get mine extra spicy. It has so much flavor! You wouldn't think it, but these bad boys travel well. It's a good thing because the seating here is limited to six barstools and it stays crowded. You most likely will need to eat it in the parking lot or take it home. It's not a a problem though! Don't forget they are cash only, but there is an ATM in the market. My only complaint is the price. It's now $16 for a full size sandwich. The quality is good though, so for a treat every now and then, it's worth it. The half size would be more filling if it came with a little side or something. The only other menu item I've tried is the Mac and Cheese. The flavors rotate out. I love the crab and corn. They deep fry the mac and cheese, and it is a crispy masterpiece filled with decadent gooey cheesy goodness. If they have a Mac and cheese flavor you like on the day of your visit, I recommend getting a big po'boy and one mac and cheese and splitting them with a friend. It's quite a treat! read more

This is definitely the closest thing I've found to the delicious food I've sampled over the years in Louisiana. I've been to NOLA about ten times over the years, mostly because I'm obsessed with Cajun cooking, but Cajun Kate's is going to save me a lot on airfare! After discovering it a few weeks ago I've been back twice and loved everything I've gotten. My favorite is the gumbo of course. They have a new flavor every week, my favorite being collard green and shrimp. Real authentic gumbo is super time consuming and definitely a labor of love, but Kate nails it. The flavor is complex, rich, and spot on. We've also tried the catfish and macaroni and cheese which were both fantastic. This location is inside Booth's Corner but they also have a spot in Wilmington as well that I plan on hitting up. After my recent trip to New Orleans, I have been craving this cuisine. Cajun Kate's is most definitely my best option to find authentic NOLA style food. I sampled three things here. The jambalaya I would say is quite good. The day I had it, they were selling it on special for a dollar off. In this case, they had containers sitting out on the counter. You order it, they heat it up and serve it. I do have to say that this resulted in jambalaya that is good, but not the greatest I've had. The Cajun Mac and Cheese is quite simply phenomenal. It's decadent beyond words. It's most definitely the dish I would tell anyone to get here. The beignets were quite tasty. I liked the touch of cinnamon in the batter. No they did not quite live up to what I ate at Cafe Du Monte, but they had a unique quality all their own. I like that they take pride in their food. You can tell. Cajun Kate's is one of my favorite places in Booth's! If you go a bit later in the night (especially Saturdays, the crowd is there earlier that day) there's no line and you can usually snag a seat. The food is legit. I've had the jambalaya and the catfish fingers and while the jambalaya is delicious, I LOVE the catfish fingers. They come out super crispy and flavorful and I can't seem to make my way to other parts of the menu. My fiance raves about the po boys (he's had both oyster and the soft shell crab po boys), and he's a tough critic! To top it off, if you manage to grab a seat, you're always bound to have good conversations with the workers. They're all really nice, the service is great! read more

We've been going to Cajun Kate's since we found them at Booth's Corner Farmers Market. The food was always excellent. There was a daily Gumbo selection, the Red Beans and Rice were the best. The only drawback there was there were maybe 6 stools and only took cash or personal check. With their new location on Philadelphia Pike, they have a little more room and take cards. Now there is still some seating, but have take-out and delivery. They have the chops,being from New Orleans and are nice, friendly people. Go and support them, get some Hush Puppies and some Fried Gator. read more

We had the pleasure of finding Cajun Kate's when searching for a place to cater a large 65-person New Orleans themed party. We met with the owner who was wonderful, sampled the menu, and were estatic about the quality and authencity of the food. They helped us plan a menu and like clockwork our very large order was ready and fantastic. The Jambalaya and Gator bites were the biggest hits, but many of our guests who spent time in New Orleans enjoyed all the items, po boys, fried crawfish, red beans with rice, the slaw and collard sides. The desserts were also a big hit as all enjoyed the banana foster bread pudding and the calas. We were very pleased with everything and plan to return!! read more

Both the Gumbo and Oyster Po boy were top notch. The gumbo was deeply aromatic and earthy. The base soup was thick and goopy. There were a ton of complex flavors going on. The shredded pork was long, tender, and executed to the proper temperature. The dish balanced its meatiness with light acid. Excellent gumbo. The Oyster Po boy had a generous filling of fried oyster and standard lettuce tomato mayo. The oysters were fried in a pleasant crunchy breading with proper seasoning. Condiments were fresh and the mayo seemed to carry some Cajun spice to it. Nice touch. Only critique would be the bread. Its a standard Italian sandwich roll. That obscures the sandwich filling just a bit much with little flavor benefit. Overall an excellent dining experience. Service was fast and pleasant. I'll definitely be back! read more

The fried max & cheese was a triangluar shaped chunk of goodness with artichoke and crab. I didn't notice any crab but there definitely was artichoke. The oyster po boy was good but the alligator sausage was so salty! I really appreciate that they offer samples because being a first timer with real southern food that isn't fried chicken, the jambalaya, gumbo, and soups, I have to say I loved every bit of it. Save a $1 off every $10 through the Yelp offer and you'd be lucky to score a seat at the counter and listen to the stories and history of the food from the man himself.
