Kaarage

I was driving over to camarillo to hang out with a local friend there but didn't plan out what we would eat. We voted quickly in the car for ramen since we had 3 kids and figured noodles are the way. Found this place on yelp and called to order over the phone without researching much. Just said "tonkatsu ramen, fried chicken (karaage), veggie ramen and need a chicken teriyaki bowl." They actually don't make a chicken bowl here but said they'll whip something up on the spot. Picked up and drove over to the friend's house. Unpacked the food. Wow the tonkatsu broth is amazing and my kid totally gobbled up the noodles. The best surprise was the veggie ramen-- just didn't expect so much flavor and action going on with this dish. A little kick, fake minced meat, ground walnuts, great noodles... this is a pretty thoughtful dish for the vegan here. We all loved everything. Omg highly recommend you try this place. We'll be back!

Food is absolutely amazing! Very flavorful. Gyoza very fresh. Ramen top notch. Staff is friendly and helpful. Top notch service. Cute place! Will come again soon!

Cagami has some of the best ramen you will find in the area! The broth is delicious and the pork is super flavorful. Highly recommend if you're looking for some good ramen in Ventura county.

The shoyu ramen comes with a thicker noodle than the tonkatsu. I like the chewy texture and the lightness of the chicken/mushroom broth. The karage chicken was also lightly fried and a nice hearty appetizer.

Cagami Ramen - A Must-Try in Camarillo Rich, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and melt-in-your-mouth chashu make Cagami Ramen a standout. The ambience is cozy and welcoming, and the service is warm and attentive. Great portions, fair prices, and consistently delicious -- the kind of ramen spot you'll want to visit again and again.

Our 3yr old daughter told us she wanted ramen for her bday and chose Cagami Ramen restaurant for its extensive mostly ramen menu. My wife and I were super happy to learn that they had a "kids ramen" choice on the menu...the bowl, basic flavor and portions were just right for our little one...perhaps suitable for the average 2-8yr old, I think. The adults in our group ordered, "Tonkotus chashu wonton ramen", "Beef Ramen" and "Curry Ramen"...all delicious and full of flavor. We also order gyoza and pork katsu both of which were a favorite for my older daughter, saying specifically the pork katsu being the best she's had in forever. Lot to like here food wise and definately worth revisiting in the future. A couple of downsides; the service is slow and imprecise...our order of beef ramen( for older daughter took a long time to arrive), luckily she munched on the katsu in the meantime. We're teaching our kids that it's bad manners to eat when someone at your table doesn't have their food/meal...I'm not sure my wife and I were a good example in this case but if the pork katsu wasn't available for my oldest daughter to eat, I would have complained vigorously...my daughter waited over 10mins for her beef ramen....not surprisingly my wife and I had none of the katsu (as an appetizer) and my daughter ended up taking most of the beef ramen home. If you're a person who likes exacting service, where your entire party eats at the same time...the service here may not make you happy. Lastly, it's a small place...structured like a (former ) sushi bar with single seat stools, a few booths and tables...a group of 6 or more would struggle to eat together here....anything can be Jerry-rigged but for bigger groups...best to go somewhere else. Ultimately, the food/ramen here is the very good and that more anything is the reason to give them a try.

Curry ramen was good! Good size portion, I wasn't able to finish! It was a cold night so the place gets busy.

It was difficult for me to find, because of the nearby construction, but well worth it. I ordered the veggie ramen and the cheesecake to go. Very good and good the next day too. The Ramen was super flavorful. I got it medium. The cheesecake comes as 2 slices. So I got matcha and yuzu. I enjoyed the citrus flavor of the yuzu. And the matcha was pretty good too. I like the setup. A very neat and somewhat urban environment. The guy who took my order was very accommodating and thorough. But wasn't in a rush at all. Incredibly informative and succinct. It was a positive experience. I would, for sure, recommend this place.

Loved the spicy miso ramen that was one of the best from Japan and then one of the ramen I ate in Los Angeles, California.

Cagami Ramen Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Cagami Ramen

Are there any gluten free ramen options?

We can sub by bean sprouts

Hi! Are you a peanut free restaurant? My daughter has a severe peanut allergy but wanted to take here for some Ramen

They serve Tan Tan Tsukemen which has peanut in it

Are the ramen noodles gluten free (rice only)?

The ramen at Cagami is an egg noodle (definitely not gluten free). They do have a vegan option of spinach noodles.

Why are the closed this week?

They are a small family owned business. So it could be family business. The food is amazing. Go back but save us a table!!😉

Where can I place a yelp order?

They don't do orders over the phone and neither do they do orders online. I called the first time I wanted to go and she let me know you can only go in to place a To go order...🙄

Everything we tried was good and fresh. The place is not fancy at all. The service was excellent despite the fact that it was pretty busy and one server (Ariana?) handled everything including a stream of Door Hub/Grub dash orders. She was hopping! She warned us that the food could take awhile but it wasn't too long until we were eating. You can't beat cold beer and steaming noodles on a blustery New Year's Eve. We will be back.

I ordered the chashu ramen which did have a generous serving of 5 pieces of pork. But omg they were so TOUGH. It felt like I was chewing forever. I think leaving the pork in the broth longer made them less tough but wow, that was a jaw workout. I was surprised that the ramen didn't come with the usual beansprouts and bamboo shoots but each place is different. I was a little annoyed to pay $2 to add them on additionally but I understand that some people may not like those things in ramen so it is an overall good idea to charge separately. Okay service. My friend and I didn't order any drinks, just had water. But it was a hassle to get a refill. I had asked twice and made multiple attempts to move my empty cup to a more strategic location to signal for water. But eventually my friend just got up and asked for me. I'm all for a fun workplace environment as long as it isnt distracting from actual work responsibilities.

Edit update: I had a minor missing item in my online order, and there's a link if you want to…read morecontact the company. I mentioned it, and did not expect a full refund, but they offered that. Unnecessary but appreciated. I returned and ordered my usual Classic Tokatsu, and maybe there is a different broth for Blaze version. This time Classic broth tasted closer to what I happily remember. I also opted for grilled chicken option, and you get much more quantity chicken compared to chashu pork. This makes sense as chashu pork is labor intense. I'm raising back to 4.5 stars (even if I can't show that extra .5) I still place Silverlake and then URamen as my fave local options. I think this location primarily operates as take-out restaurant. There are maybe 5-6 tables available for dining there. There are surprisingly limited # of general tables to eat inside the Annex; may have better luck eating takeout at outside tables. Silverlake's tables are reserved only for those dining in, you can not sit at a table if you're waiting for your takeout order. I ordered the Blaze (tonkatsu broth) ramen. It didn't have that same special taste I remembered. Today my seasoned egg was missing, but that is not the reason for lowering a star. Overall, from what I remember, the broth does not have that same unique flavor; the noodles were still good and fresh tasting. I also had a chicken bao snack, and it did not have a freshly cooked taste; nothing stood out in the flavors. I expected it to have more punch with kimchi inside, but it was kind of flat. Ramen is packed very well for takeout; they have a great system of separating the broth, noodles and making it easy to re-heat ramen at home and mix it together in the larger noodles/ sides bowl. Still good ramen, but maybe the flavors and some quality has become more muted. * Note: I did not realize this until I saw the prices at the counter, but if you order online, prices are approx. 10% higher, probably to cover costs of takeout containers etc. Generally I have not seen higher prices for ordering ahead. It may be more cost-effective to order counter take out if you don't mind waiting in longer lines.

The Garlic Truffle Ramen is absolutely out-of-control good. The broth is rich, savory, and…read moreperfectly balanced with bold garlic and earthy truffle flavor that isn't overpowering. The noodles have the perfect texture and soak up all that incredible flavor. It's the kind of bowl you crave long after you've finished it. Full honesty, the location itself isn't ideal. There's rarely enough room, and the seating arrangement is weak. If you plan to dine in, there has to be an open seat available before you can even order. You have to wait for space to open up first, and only then can you place your order and sit down. It can definitely be inconvenient. The prices are also on the higher side. I'd love to see some occasional specials or slight price adjustments to make it more accessible. That said, I keep coming back anyway. The Garlic Truffle Ramen is just that good. For me, it's worth working around the tight space every single time.

I am basing my review on 1 visit, during lunch. There wasn't…read morea line so I was able to be seated immediately. Ambiance- seating inside is generally small tables close together and the dining area is on the smaller side. An open kitchen area is behind the counter, but they also have more kitchen space behind in the back. They layout really reminded me of Tokyo Ramen houses that are designed for solo single eaters (as a lot of Tokyo casual dining is). During my meal, the majority of us at tables were solo eaters, only 1 other table had 2 diners. So I imagine if you're a larger party it, it may be hard to get seating at busier times due to smaller number of tables. Ordered- Tokatsu ShuShu ramen. The noodles were springy and bouncy. The broth is creamy and tasty. I still think I really enjoy Silverlake Ramen's Tonkatsu broth (I don't know what their secret ingredient is that makes it unique) but URamen's is still satisfying. I had 4 pieces of Chashu, 1/2 of a seasoned soft boiled egg. The yolk is seasoned in a very sweet sauce- interesting taste. They add a wonton crisp which is unusual for Ramen bowl! I would've like nori crisp but that's ok. Service- One server was taking care of the lunch crowd. The owners are Thai, and I believe the server is also Thai. She was quite polite. Usually I think most Thai restaurants offer that super kind, and humble service to customers. (I say this as Korean Ame, it's noticeably different than immigrant run Korean or Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants) I do prefer the taste of Silverlake Ramen, BUT they have even more limited seating. The parking and access here is easier and quicker than going to the Collection Annex, so I think this is another solid Ramen place. Note- They are closed on Mondays, and closed between 3-5pm everyday. The first time I came, was during their closed time.
