Cagami Ramen has some of the best ramen I've ever had! If there is a wait to get seated, it is worth waiting for. We went on a Thursday night around 6pm and we only had to wait about 10 minutes. The service inside was great. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came out quickly after we ordered. The restaurant is small with a few tables and some bar seating. We tried the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Cagami Kara-Miso. The Tonkotsu Ramen is made with pork bone broth, thin noodles, 2 pieces of marinated pork belly, mushrooms, green onions and seaweed. The broth had great flavor and was savory. The pork belly was tender. This ramen was not spicy. It was delicious! The Cagami Kara-Miso is made with pork bone broth that is flavored with miso ginger, medium noodles, 2 slices of pork belly, spicy paste, green onion, bean sprouts, mushrooms and sesame seeds. This ramen was spicy! It was almost too spicy for us. We really enjoyed the flavor of the miso ginger broth. It tasted very different than the Tonkotsu Ramen, but not in a bad way. We were recommended to Cagami by a fellow foodie. We found Cagami to be really good. We are always looking for good Ramen as we haven't been thrilled with the places we've been to in the Conejo/Camarillo area and usually have to go to The Valley or Arcadia. We had 2 dishes that allowed us to have thin and medium noodles (Old-school Tonkatsu and the Kara-Miso). The broths were delicious as were the noodles and the Chashu. There seem to be many several different and unique bowls available to try on future visits. We also ordered Takoyaki, as that is one the dishes we always order at a new-to-us ramen joint. When the very attentive wait staff said it would be a little bit of a wait (the Takoyaki came to the table after the Ramen) , we were optimistic that they were being made fresh and properly. They were definitely worth the short wait as they were probably some of, if not the best Takoyakis we've ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft but not under-cooked on the inside and the Octopus was just right. The restaurant itself is a little hole in the wall with a laid-back, comfortable Japanese vibe. If you're looking for fancy decor, go somewhere else. Come here for the ramen. read more

Nice little ramen shop between habit and Urbane. Definitely sign in as they're quite busy even at 4pm! We ordered a tsukemen and the old school tonkotsu. Both were tasty and filling. The texture of the noodles is on point- perfectly cooked with just the right about of bite. The tsukemen flavor is distinct - it's def pork based but has a hint of hot and sour and solid notes of sesame. It's exactly as they described the soup in the description. The tonkotsu has a lot of umani - not as savory as some other tonkotsus I've had but I think there's definite notes of mushroom which adds a nice lighter note. The spicy paste is fantastic. It came with the tsukemen but was a fabulous addition to the tonkotsu soup also. Would recommend! read more

Stopped by here to grab a bite and wait for traffic to die down as we were passing through the area. It was weird timing, around 3:00, so we had no problem getting a table right away, but I could see how it would be tricky during peak hours. Service was very friendly and ready to answer any of our questions. My husband ordered the tonkotsu chasu wonton ramen which had a rich, creamy broth, a generous amount of pork and thin noodles, as well as wontons and was happy with his choice. I went with the shoyu and added an egg and chili paste, which came on the side, I appreciated that because we were able to share and customize our spice level. I always prefer chili paste to chili oil, so I was gald for that option. However, the shoyu broth was so flavorful and delicious I almost regretted adding the chili paste! Mine came with the thicker medium noodles and I absolutely loved them, they had a nice chew and paired well with the broth. The egg was perfectly cooked, still jammy, I only wish I had eaten it first before I got too full to finish it. Overall, we both were happy and satisfied with our choices and although it was a little on the pricey end, definitely worth it especially considering we were both unable to finish, so great portions. If we had any "complaint" it would be that the pork was more fatty than we prefer. Definitely will be stopping back by here whenever we are in the area! read more

I did not have "Packed Ramen Shop in Camarillo on a Tueday at 5pm" on my bingo card, but it was really great to eat at a such a fine shop. I'm glad I was able to get my ramen fix without having to brave the 405 in rush hour, so I ordered three bowls--Chashu Tonkotsu, Mazesoba, Tantan Tuskemen--in my two visits. The three bowls had a number of shared qualities. Foremost was the quality of the broth in the tonkotsu and tantan tsukemen. The tonkotsu broth, prepared in a very big pressure cooker bouncing on the range, was true to the Hakata-style of the owner's wife, Ueno Asaka's native Fukuoka, a wonderfully porky yet reatlively light broth. The tantan tsukemen's concentrated dipping broth was creamy and chock-full of sesame flavor, though I think it could've been a bit more spicy without adding the spicy paste on the side. But both would be right at home in a ramen shop in Japan. The other thing that impressed me was the three different kinds of noodles, correctly assigned to different bowls. Whereas many shops will be lazy and use a single noodle for all of its bowls, Cagami not only has variety, but also mandates that certain bowls MUST use certain types of noodles. This saves the diner from making a dumb choice that detracts from the dish. The tonkotsu only comes in thin noodle, the tsukemen and mazesoba only come in chewy thick noodle. The noodles were delicious, and the only criticism I would have is that the thin noodles in my tonkotsu weren't still weren't hard enough, even though I had ordered them as such. Other than that, my only remaining notes are that the chashu was solid rather than spectacular. In particular, the chashu in the chashudon was fairly dry and insufficient for the bowl. Charging $2.50 for for ajitama was a bit much, especially when it's poorly peeled, as you can see in the tantan and the mazesoba. The negi in the tonkotsu is too roughly chopped, so many bites contain a large piece of negi that overwhelms the flavor of everything else in that bite. Finally, both the mazesoba and chashudon could've used a bigger hit of animal fat for flavor: the chashudon was overly reliant on soy sauce for flavor, while the mazesoba definitely needed more flavor and aromatics. These criticisms aside, this is a very fine shop and worthy of visit for those within an hour's drive of the area. read more

Most definitely the best ramen spot in Ventura county! I would even say that it's better than some hyped ramen restaurants in LA. This spot is usually busy, even during the weeknights, and because the restaurant is small, you may find yourself waiting sometimes 30 min for a table, but they turn tables very quickly and parking is never an issue. I'm usually in and out in under an hour. My partner was stationed in Japan for work for a total of 13 non-consecutive months and he thinks the ramen is comparable to the ramen he's had in Japan. I'll enjoy ramen at both ends of the quality spectrum but I recognize when I'm treated to some of the best ramen around. The only bad thing about this place is you'll know about real ramen and real bone broth. It'll make it very disappointing when you go to a run of the mill ramen place that doesn't take the same pride in their product as Cagame. Great little ramen place offering the Hakata Ramen from Fukuoka in Kyushu, Japan. I'm not a Ramen connoisseur but I appreciate their little description about this culinary tradition (on back of menu) with the map of japan. We ordered the mixed fish bowl, which is like a small version of Chirashi, and the Kura Mayu (black sesame oil?) Ramen. Both very good and unique - as in not the kind that you'd get in every ramen place. The decor is down to earth but has the vibe of a small Japanese eatery. Service was attentive. Parking was super easy as the restaurant is next to a huge shopping/ restaurant complex. The only thing I wish they could do better is giving a little more rice in the rice bowls. Definitely the best ramen spot in Camarillo and probably Ventura County! Before I begin my review, I come from the SGV which is an incredibly authentic and competitive ramen market, so my husband often tells me I'm biased, but I say I'm experienced! With that being said, Cagami Ramen does ramen right. From the chewiness of the noodles, to offering both traditional thin and thick noodles, to the mandatory cooking of the broth for 24 hours, to getting the meat perfectly tender, the owners really outdid themselves and take pride in their authenticity. We ordered the most popular dish Karamiso and the Kuro ma-yu. Both were so flavorful and delicious that we drank all of the soup! They add a good amount of noodles so you won't be leaving hungry and the meat portions balance the meal well. This place almost always has a line out the door. I'm giving this place 4 stars because I want more small businesses and diverse businesses to come to Camarillo. They have a great selection of ramen and small bowl options for a fair price! I actually really like their small bowl options and have tried all of them. Is it the best ramen in the world? No. Is it the best in SoCal? Not quite. But is it the best in Camarillo? Hands down. The only thing I would say is their phone is hit or miss. I've tried a handful of times to order to go over the phone and usually their phones are either busy or it's lead to voicemail.
