A bit of a trek from the tourist spots, this little cafe was a total gem. Hidden away across the way from the Bank of France. For those wondering they do have menus in English and are "American Friendly". We ordered a sparkling water, champagne, pasta dish and duck confit. The food was absolutely incredible, if you're hungry and in the area I would absolutely recommend. The service was a little slow - but that's Paris for you. I came here under the recommendation of a friend who told me that the oeuf cocotte here is amazing - however it was neither on the regular menu, nor the Sunday brunch menu and thus we were reduced to ordering whatever else. The menu choices here were surprisingly unfrench, with a lot of burger selections and a lot of Spanish-fusion or Asian-fusion dishes. We started with Chicken Nem, which was surprisingly delicious, and for our mains, we had the BBQ pork ribs with a baked potato, as well as Satay Chicken skewers with rice. The ribs were good but the giant potato is uninspiring. The satay chicken was super dry but the sauce was okay. Their rice had a lot of herbs and what not cooked with it, so that was very nice. Overall, I was not very impressed with the food. The prices are reasonable Parisian prices at ~15 EUR plus or minus per main. I might come back for the burgers as I hear they are pretty good there, but we'll see. read more

I'm not really sure what the fuss is over this place. (Disclaimer: I did not choose this restaurant but my companion recommended it after seeing the number of stars and reviews on Yelp.) The menu is not that interesting -- this is a long way to go for food you can otherwise get easily in the US. The wait staff was really friendly so that made up for the lack of interestingness in the menu. When I asked the waitress what is best at the restaurant, she said they were known for their burgers. Given that we're mostly pescatarian/vegetarian, we opted for fish and chips, vegetarian lasagna, and the smoked salmon bagel. One of us in our party also got the carpaccio. To our delight, almost everything comes with fries (not the lasagna). The lasagna was just OK. It's hard to mess up a smoked salmon bagel, but it was ordered because that person in our party didn't see anything else she wanted to eat. The fish and chips were good, fried very crispy. I've had better carpaccio and would recommend avoiding it here. Here, it is not that thinly sliced, so it was very chewy and difficult to eat. read more

Lovely cafe with delicious food. I got the salade bo bun with beef and my boyfriend got the veggie burger. The salade bo bun was great! Beef was flavored well and it was exactly what I had expected. It's similar to the dish which is commonly found in Vietnamese restaurants (minus the fish sauce). It came with chicken egg rolls which tasted fantastic as well! I also got the Tea Party cocktail, which is Earl grey infused vodka, honey and apple juice. The best drink I've ever had in my life!! I would absolutely come back for more. The Earl grey flavors were strong which is what I like - big tea lover here. Normal price is 8€ but happy hour brought it down to 5€ - quite a steal considering a normal cocktail in New York City would cost me 3x that. One thing we both strangely really enjoyed was the mustard. Coming from New York, we were really pleasantly surprised by the horseradish taste in their mustard which came with the veggie burger. Definitely gives you a kick, and spiced up the burger! The veggie burger without the sauces was a bit plain but I thought it was still decent. My boyfriend was not too crazy about it though until he added the mustard. Overall, a great restaurant for tourists as they speak English here and have some English menus. This cafe looked popular from the outside, so my friend and I decided to try it out. We ordered pasta, i got the risotto and she got the Gorgonzola pasta. It was amazing and rich and the asparagus and prawns were crispy to contrast the creamy pasta. As we were sitting there, so many plates passed us with egg rolls, salads and burgers that looked delicious too. We are excited to come back again and try the other things in the menu! read more

We stumbled upon this place during a recent trip to Paris. It seems like visiting an unknown Parisian restaurant is always a bit of a gamble, but this place turned out to be a great cozy spot with hearty food and a neighbourhoody feel. We shared a pasta dish and bruschetta, which was big enough for a light meal for two, and had a couple of nice glasses of wine. Le Cafe Les Anges looks like a "locals" hangout, but like everywhere else that we experienced in Paris, once you get inside you realize that the crowd is truly international. The couple to our left was speaking Spanish, and although the girl to our right gave off a Parisian air -- dining alone on a tartine and glass of wine while wearing a beret -- as soon as she opened her mouth, we realized that she was an American who didn't speak a single word of French. In any case, it's still a low-key hangout spot. I guess that these are some of the charms of spending time in a truly international city. Off the beaten path of Bastille, Café des Anges probably doesn't attract a crowd based on its culinary talents. My meals there have always been average which, I believe, shouldn't be the case when you're ordering basic pasta or burger dishes. Why, you ask, do I keep going back? Well, the atmosphere and people watching is great. You'll learn quickly that this corner café is a local watering hole-- the servers know what the regulars order, the usual lunchers nod hello to their neighbors and friends cross paths at random. The servers generally seem to have a good rapport, changing the music to suit them, yelling jokes across the bar to each other, etc. My advice, go for a coffee, read the newspaper, soak in the good energy. Got the tartare steak which was fantastic, but the salad with pineapple, kiwis, salmon and feta didn't really cut it. The brunch menu actually consists of everything on the list. Neither of us knew this, so husband was extremely surprised when he got a full plate of bagel, Benedict, pancakes, and fruit salad. I got the chicken satay, though a previous reviewer had dry chicken. Happy to report mine was extremely moist, with the exception of one overdone piece. The sauce was VERY GOOD!! And I really wanted rice. It was plain jasmine, covered in cilantro and green onions. I had to pick off the cilantro, as I'm one of the unfortunate people who tastes soap when I eat it. Our server was awesome, once someone realized we didn't receive menus. Most of the staff speaks pretty great English. Did I mention brunch comes with a warm drink AND fresh squeezed orange juice?? This was the first place we wandered in for a bite in Paris. It was literally our first moments outside and it seemed busy with locals and tourists sitting about. Being full and in demand, it seemed to give that its popular in this hipster area. However, it all boiled down to an average. The food was very generalized, so dont expect anything fancy French. Burgers, bagels, pasta, pizza, etc. The staff is overworked so you are lucky if you can order. Albeit they were in positive spirits, so no one was mean towards us. What is annoying was that the menu was in French. So we couldnt figure out much and staff was really busy so no one could really help us out. Its a bit pricy and I feel the location gives this place a lot of credit than it deserves. Perhaps its been around for so long that it just lives on its past reputation. If you are in the neighbourhood, you can easily find other places. However, if you just want a drink and small bite without much expectation, you will not be disappointed. I lived right next door for some time and the cafe des anges was one of my favorite spots for Sunday lunches. The waiters are nice, if you're ok with Parisian humor and briskness. The menu is simple but there's some very good stuff there. The big salads are especially great, I really recommend them after a rough night. If you're going for something more elaborate, you might want to check out the daily suggestions on the board: they are usually tasty and varied. The big weakness of the café des anges is their dessert. They just can't do them. A good combo is to go there for the entrée and wander rue de la roquette for your sugar fix. read more

We were really fortunate in the neighborhood we stayed in while in Paris a couple of weeks ago. Cafe des Anges was only a couple hundred yards from our door. We liked it so much we went there four times in the 5.5 days we were there! Service was fast, staff were friendly and easy to communicate with (we barely spoke any french and were very pleased to find out almost everyone there spoke plenty of english). we loved the food and the cafe gave us that feel of being in an older, beautiful city with lots of history. Posters on the walls give you all the upcoming (and sadly for us, since we missed it, most of what recently passed) entertainment happening locally: music, plays, shows. Because I had two young kids with me I wasn't able to get out late, every night coming back we passed the cafe and it was packed. I have learned that a restaurant being busy is a sure sign it's good. It sounded to our ears like a lot of the people were locals. Also a great spot for people watching, the corner had a good amount of foot traffic. my older daughter and I spent the last morning sitting outside chatting and enjoying the laid back atmosphere. read more

Discovered this bistro around the corner from where we were staying. Went to lunch and had the hanger steak which was seasoned well, cooked perfectly to my order, and was as tender as one would expect from this cut of beef. The accompanying blue cheese sauce was tasty without being overpowering. The side of gratin potatoes was outstanding and probably some of the best that I had in Paris. The green salad had a good basic vinegarette. The stay was attentive and really friendly and I appreciated that they spoke English and also had the menu printed in English. I enjoyed the meal immensely. My partner and I went back later and I ordered the Cobb salad which was loaded with avocado, tomato, boiled egg and a large sliced fried chicken breast. Unfortunately the chicken was dry and not flavorful but the dressing and other components made up for that. Resume: the food was actually quite fine, but the service was just too inefficient and uninterested in good custumer service. Food: we had 1: salat with goat cheese, cured ham, aubergine, greens, 2: another salat with camembert, cured ham, potatoes, eggs and greens and 3: fries with a melted cheese (forgot the name) and bacon. No 1 was really nice, crispy toasted bread underneath the creamy goat cheese, a nice balsamic as garnish and fresh and tasty greens. The serving was plentiful. No 2 also had a really nice taste and mild garnish. A litttle more heavy but that was to be expected. Slightly undersalted, but salt was available. The fries (no 3) were soft and very heavy. I'd recommend going for something else. Service: incredible lack of overview. They did not super busy, nor understaffed, but we waited a long time for them to clean the table before us, and again when we were looking to pay the bill. We had to remind them and actually stop a waiter to finish the bill. Also, the toilet was suddenly closed, and first we were told it would be 2-3 minutes, then after 10 minutes, they said it would be another 20 minutes. We left. read more
