I am splitting the difference on my review here because I was partly at fault for the unpleasant exchange. Let me explain:
On the morning of 21 July, my wife and I had stopped by a wonderful bakery not far from here and picked up some breakfast. Since they did not have coffee, we asked where we should get some. Les Parisiennes was suggested, so we walked about a block to this place.
We ordered coffee, and here is where I am at fault (I admit that all too often, my mouth works before my brain does): I foolishly asked if we could eat our pastries at the sidewalk table while we drank our coffee. Before I could take it back, the waiter said that that would be unusual, but he would be willing to make an exception. We went to our table to wait for our coffee, and when the waiter brought it, I apologized for my foolish question and told him we were not going to eat our pastries there. That seemed to be the end of it, and the exchange seemed to turn pleasant when he asked where we were from. I told him where we lived, and he then asked, "Is that normal where you come from to eat outside food at another restaurant?" I bit my tongue and just admitted that it wasn't, but could not help but feel that he had just scolded me like a child.
I did not wish to further embarrass my wife or make her feel uncomfortable on our vacation so I did not say anything else. I feel like the exchange makes me want to give this place 1 or 2 stars, but I accept my part of the blame.
The coffee (cafe') was very good, and the location seemed pleasant and vibrant. But the waiter could use some tact. read more
