Nice staff, good food and coffee, but a public restroom that's lousy. Had to get a pass code from a staffer, okay, no problem. Went in, closed the stall door, sat down, let nature take its course. Pulled some TP off the roll on the wall, and it slid off of the holder and rolled onto the floor. Why? The holders have metal things that are supposed to snap and lock/hold the rolls in place, but they don't work. I retrieved the roll on the floor with some difficulty and then discovered that the TP is the cheapest, flimsiest stuff imaginable, making it difficult to use. And while I'm dealing with this, taking longer than usual, the lights (motion sensitive) went out! Great, I am now in total darkness. I finished, but then couldn't find the stall door latch in the dark. Kept feeling around, it took a while, and only when I finally opened the door did the lights came back on. Imagine if a handicapped person was in the stall and the lights went off? Get better TP for crying out loud, and do something about the lights. I tried waving my arms in the stall, feeling like an idiot, but the sensor didn't pick up on it, only when the stall door opened. read more

I am honestly shocked by how awful the service was this morning (June 5). We ordered ahead through Uber Eats more than 20 minutes before arriving because we were in a rush trying to get breakfast for the kids before the bus stop. When we got there, the order ticket had already been printed, but the employee was just standing there listening to music and had not even started the order. We asked her if she could please move faster because it was literally just a few croissants and drinks. Instead of apologizing or helping, she immediately got defensive and argued back saying "it's not my fault." Excuse me? The ticket was already printed and nothing had been done. How is that NOT the staff's fault? What made me even angrier was that after that conversation, she intentionally slowed down even more. She shoved four croissants into a tiny box like she did not care at all, then slowly made the drinks while we stood there stressed and trying not to miss the school bus. It honestly felt passive aggressive and disrespectful on purpose. I asked for her name because I fully intended to report the experience, and she refused to give it to me. That alone says everything. This was not just "bad service." This was rude, dismissive, unapologetic behavior from someone who clearly should not be dealing with customers. If management thinks this kind of attitude is acceptable, this store is going to lose customers very quickly. read more

The main thing I can say about Caffe Nero is that it has a very hospitable comfortable ambience with lots of seating options from nicely upholstered chairs to couches, bookshelves along the walls, and decent WiFi. Their coffee is ok. Staff is friendly. I appreciate they have iced water pitchers and cups available to serve yourself. It's a good setting to study, read, converse with friends. read more

That the coffee is at best mediocre, the food soggy and too fatty, and that they have both a tip jar with a loud sign AND a POS with a tip menu, that needs to be responded to before proceeding, for 15-20-25% is annoying but acceptable in a pinch, but the service... First the server snippily informs me that they are going to close in half an hour, pausing and expecting me to therefore NOT want my coffee "for here" but then, when I say "that's OK" proceeds to take AGES to make the coffee, interrupting her activity repeatedly to have a chat with her bored colleague about some device that may need cleaning. So after about 10 minutes of waiting and watching her start, stop, talk to her colleague, and resume her coffee-making activities I end up with two stone-cold coffees and 20 minutes left to talk to my friend. First C.N. I've been to that serves hot green tea in a decent sized 20oz (eyeball guess) paper cup not some dinky little ceramic cup. Actual tea isn't quite as good as Starbucks, nor do they double-bag it, but at least it's a decent size. The service was fine when I went (I'm sure it depends on whoever happens to be working at the time and how crowded they are), and the surroundings were nice and comfy as all C.N. locations I've ever been to are. In other words, they don't play annoying blaring music and there are a decent number of AC outlets you can find to plug in your laptop if you brought one. Deducting one star only because 5pm is a ridiculously early closing time, which makes no sense for a Central Square location unless Life Alive down the street is clobbering everyone else. Unless foot traffic later in the day is being scared away by all the unhinged unhoused (politically correct term for "homeless" these days, lol) folks at the main intersection? So I went there on a weekend afternoon to do some reading around 4 pm. Okay drinks, and the service was quick. However, something has changed since I last visited during a week day around noon. They had me at "it tastes like funnel cake". If you have never tried the KOUIGN AMMAN, you need to go get it ASAP. The official description is buttery and flakey croissant with layers of caramelized sugar, but like the barista described it - it tastes like funnel cake. If I could, I'd leave no stars. I came into this Cafe Nero on a Sunday afternoon for some cold brew. The service here was terrible. I asked the baristas for the bathroom code as my daughter and I desperately needed to go before I ordered my drink. They refused to give us the code UNTIL we ordered BEFORE we use the bathroom. No other Cafe Nero's have EVER said that we weren't allow to get the bathroom code until after we order. I was furious with the service here at the Central Square location today; I definitely will not be returning to here, and it has made me consider not returning to any Cafe Nero locations again. read more

I've had the worst experience at cafe Nero a few minutes ago. Normally I would go to this cafe to study and there hasn't been any issues. After a long stressful morning at school, I decided to grab some Dunkin' and needed a spot to sit down and relax a little. So I stopped at cafe Nero. Not even 5 minutes later I got asked very rudely to leave because I brought in stuff from Dunkin'. This didn't bother me much, but I still thought it was odd. Like I said I've been there before and always had drinks from other places with me. Not once have I been asked to leave. The guy who asked me to get out was extremely loud and rude. He even had the audacity to say to me across the room "our coffee is better anyway" as if I cared. I'm not even a coffee drinker. Others were staring at me. It's almost as if he was trying to embarrass me in the shop.As someone who works in customer service, he could've asked in a much nicer way. After thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that this was racially motivated, considering I was the only black person in there at the time. Terrible service. I ordered a small ice coffee ($5.03!) and when preparing to pay with my credit card I politely asked for 4 quarters for a dollar bill. She refused, saying they couldn't hand out change. So I pulled out a 20 and said they are obligated to make change now and she responded they are not obligated and to run my credit card. My double espresso this morning took a bit to be prepared. The barista was clearly capable but he kept running into things that needed to be cleared before we could get coffee. The grinder wasn't working right. The machine had grounds jammed in it. The cup wasn't clean (which he noticed and made another espresso). It just took a while. When it was ready, served in the proper ceramic cup with a saucer, it was delicious and got me the needed caffeine boost. I spent about an hour here at Nero with my laptop. I like the staff here. I am very friendly with them as I am in retail as well; they are friendly back. Over the last month I go in & order coffee. I have got three coffees that the dairy had turned. I got sick on it the first two times. The third time I had noticed it once I had got to work. I ended up dumping it. I am sure I could have gone back to show them to get it changed out, but I also feel being in food service you would double check the dates & not leave items out of the fridge for too long. read more

This is a fun and quirky coffeeshop with a plethora of books on the shelves to glace through while having your drink of choice. The baristas were friendly and they didn't charge extra for a little more vanilla that I asked for in my latte. Come here with your laptop to study, take time to chill and read, or bring a friend to chat. They also have plenty of interesting baked goods including a pistachio muffin! Many caffe Nero's aren't known for their customer service but this one is really "special." Today I was working there when, suddenly, at 6:52pm (closing time is 7pm), they didn't just tell me they are closing soon or that I should pack up soon--they literally turned OFF all lights. I used to go to Nero from time to time in the UK, and so I was pleasantly surprised to see one here in the US. The vibe inside is super cool, like an industrial library, which would be great for studying or just hanging out. My espresso was quite dark - a little too roasty for my taste, but it was prepared well. We went right before closing, so when the closing time came, the baristas told us to leave rather abruptly. This place is a nice place to study if you manage to find a spot. The coffee isn't amazing, the chai is like pure milk, and the prices are just okay, but it's in a convenient spot. I prefer other locations to this one because the staff are usually friendlier and the seating is easier to find. Still, I still frequent this spot because it's in such an easy location. I very like this Caffè Nero. Its is very good location, there are a lot of space for work. Plus, there is H-Mart at the next door. But this is not the main advantage. A couple days ago I was little bit disappointed. It was around 8 AM, I went to the work and, as always, I've got a cappuccino. Usually, this is it what I take. But in that day I wanted to grab something else - a sandwich. To my surprise there were just 6-8 sandwiches. And it seemed to me that they were from last night. I know that in the end of each day the stuff take all sandwiches off, but in that morning sandwiches laid randomly, it didn't look like they put it like that. Food is decent chain-cafe quality. Typical croissants and cakes. Coffee is decent too. The service can be very bad at times with long waits and disinterested staff, but not always. Someone else mentioned the bathroom code. I asked for it once and the lady said there wasn't one, but that door is definitely locked. It's got a bunch of well laid out tables so it's a decent place to meet someone for a coffee meeting. They will go out of business eventually though if they can't fix the staff issue. read more

Caffe Nero has done it again! This is one of my go-to cafes in central square. I've been a fan of the Caffe Nero chain since I first discovered it in the UK. I was super excited to see it expand across Boston. Some locations are a hit, some are a miss. Others may disagree, but I think this location is a hit. The location is super convenient. Yes, it can be hard to find seating sometimes, but that's not Caffe Nero's fault. It's just in a prime location. This place is no more crowded than other nearby cafes -- in fact, Caffe Nero generally has more seating available because the space is larger, offering a wider selection of tables. I come here at least once a week and sometimes the line is long, but the employees are super quick at preparing drinks. Once, my order took a bit longer than normal and the employee rewarded me with extra stamps on my loyalty card. This place is the best. Delicious food and drinks and cozy atmosphere (especially great during winter)! read more
