There is simply no way to overstate the incredible experience we had last night at Caffe Ciampini. Located just to the left at the top of the Spanish Steps is an incredible, family owned gem. Food was fantastic from the mushroom Fettuccine to the seafood risoto. Francesca and Sam(ah) were great as our servers while the owner Marco and his son shared the restaurant's history with us. Usually in high traffic/tourist areas, the food is subpar. That is not the case here. First of all it is a beautiful overlook, it is easy to get to and the food was absolutely AMAZING!! We will be back and will recommend it to our friends and family when they visit Rome. read more

Our first meal after landing in Rome and it was wonderful! Gorgeous patio with stunning views and a lovely breeze- beautiful garden feel. Everyone nicely dressed and very classy. The gnocchi was amazing as was the prosciutto with melon and antipasto were all delicious! Wonderful service as well. read more

I wouldn't trust these earlier reviews (they are mostly very old). There is no longer any pizza and the views are all blocked by plants. The food was average but very overpriced, and the waiter (an older man) was SO rude and smarmy. He pressured us to tip (literally stalking us as we paid, insisting we needed to tip and hovering over us until we paid one!). This was after he didn't want to give us a 'view' table because there were other reservations (it was half empty) and also talked us out of how we wanted our food cooked. We just wanted to get out of there- so unethical and disappointing! This business should be ashamed of itself. read more

If you make the smart decision to come here, please request the gazebo! It has the best view of the Vatican. If you watch the sunset over the vatican, it is breathtaking and beautiful. During our shopping trip we asked one of the kind sales associates at the Gucci store for recommendations for gelato in the area. We were told to come to Caffè Ciampini and recommended the hazelnut and stracciatella flavors. It's one of the top gelato places that I've tried on the trip and I had gelato everyday. The young gentleman behind the counter was very patient while we decided in the flavors that we wanted. You can choose more than one flavor depending on the size you are getting so I opted to try both the hazelnut and stracciatella. It had been raining that day so the servers kindly guided us back in doors because the outdoor seating was wet. The gelato was not overly sweet which I enjoyed. read more

As a tourist, I love this place. The view alone is worth it. Fortunately, the food and the service is wonderful. I have enjoyed pasta, meat, and vegetable dishes here. My all time favorite was the salad of three different types of tomatoes, which were in season. The preparation was wonderful. I also enjoy their wine choices and cocktails. Location wise, I think it's perfect, especially if you stroll from the Piazza del Popolo down Viale Gabriele d'Annunzio toward the Spanish Steps. After three days in bustling, hectic Rome, my wife and I decided to walk over to the Villa Medici and Gardens, which are located near the top of the Spanish Steps to get away from the crowds. We really enjoyed the peace, quiet, and amazing views. As we were leaving, we saw Caffe Ciampini across the street. It looked inviting and we decided to give it a try. Great decision. The setting is terrific and the service was professional, elegant and friendly. It has an extensive menu and wine list. It being the afternoon, we opted for a Pinot Grigio. Outstanding! I had the seafood antipasto as my entree, and it paired beautifully with the white wine. My wife had the lamb chops (which was a rack of lamb), OMG! One of the best we have ever had. All in all, it was one of the more enjoyable meals we had in two weeks in Italy. Highly recommended. read more

Found this place walking around looking for a meal before the opera. Ambiance is great. They would not seat us at a table with a great view even though they were empty because we did not have a reservation. That's okay. Ordered 3 items. Fettuccini with octopus was okay. Ciampini pasta was tasty. Sea bass balls were a DISASTER. One of them made LOUD crunching noises when chewing so we did not eat it. It was one of those bad bites that makes you freeze mid-chew and spit it out. Appetite killer. We knew something was wrong because the other 2 balls were soft with no crunch. We usually don't complain but the waitress noticed it was uneaten and asked if everything was okay. We told her what happened and she apologized but still charged us for it. Why ask if you aren't going to do anything about it?? More upsetting then if they didn't ask at all! Then they tried to upsell on dessert and caffe. Overall okay and maybe it was just a bad night but doesn't seem like they care, especially for the price. read more

Superb meal of fire grilled vegetables and steamed sea bass. Like eating a cloud. Beautiful place overlooking the city. Highly recommend!

Pizzas was nothing spectacular, somewhat bland and soggy in the middle. We also found a hair in the dough after eating about half of it so that's a shame. Ingredients didn't seem fresh at all. Restaurant does have covered patio seating and lots of it, so waits shouldn't be a problem. Staff is also friendly and courteous. Location is convenient and close to the steps. read more

Situated between the top of the Spanish Steps and Palazzo Medici, this restaurant is romantic, has amazing views of St. Peters at night and delicious food. I enjoyed pasta with wild boar and my husband ordered lobster ravioli- which turned out to be large pieces of pasta with a very generous portion of lobster in between. There is a small pool filled with turtles that separates the tables on the outdoor patio. The staff is attentive and the crowd was much more local than tourist during my visit. read more

this place wasn't bad. we went here after a place up the street stopped serving lunch and we were hungry. the only complaint we'd even have was they took forever to give us the check. that seems to be a habit in Rome though. us new yorkers just aren't used to that we are always in a rush! we loved sitting on the couch and the view though so it's okay. read more

The staff is SO welcoming and the food is fantastic. Was just there with my family and I am learning Italian, our waiter was awesome and helped me with my speaking and ordering. The pizza and gnocchi are incredible and so is the view! So friendly and felt like a restaurant filled with friends. Would highly recommend stopping here for lunch. At the top of the Spanish steps a little ways from the tourist rush. Some of the best food I've had in Rome. read more
