Ended up at Caffe Palermo while on a walking tour only because the line at the other place with rumored amazing cannolis was too long. This place was not bad, but I wish we could have tried the other place as the cannolis here were decent, but they were like many others I've had before at other places. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing special and did not stand out. What did stand out was that they did have mini cannolis which was great. It allowed me to get a few different flavors and other desserts as well. I ordered the Lobster Tail, Cookies & Cream or Orea cannoli, Chocolate cannoli, the traditional, and gelato. While walking around Little Italy recently we dropped into Caffe Palermo to try out their proclaimed #1 cannoli in the world, a slice of tiramisu, and a few cappuccinos. The cannoli was ok as I have had better, but it was decent. I thought the tiramisu was actually better - creamy and tasty. For the price I felt the cannoli here are a bit small. Love this cafe in Little Italy and have been here many times. There are so many different pastries and treats it is hard to choose. For cannolis there are so many different unique flavors and variations like chocolate, caramel, etc and they have mini sizes too if you don't want the big ones which is great. My favorites were the Maritozzo and lobster tail. The cream tastes super fresh and yummy. I've tried their chai, chocolate chai and vanilla chai. All were good but many times they were out of the regular chai so I had to opt for the chocolate as that was the only one left. Our cannoli debacle at another caffe, led us to have to come here to the "Cannoli King." My husband said we were wrong and this was the place, not the other, so we walked in and sat down and my daughter noted, while we waited for our order, that not a single celebrity on the wall that ate there was a real Italian and while neither are we, full Italian atleast, we know cannolis. This place had a better shell, it didn't cut the roof of my mouth as I ate it, and was half thebthickness of the other place, but the cream was loose, too sweet and didn't have enough ricotta. Had a fantastic experience at Caffe Palermo this weekend. Coming from an Italian family, I was excited to come and try the cannoli. They did not disappoint me. I tried a large regular and a small hazelnut. My husband and I both loved the creamy smoothness of the filling. Neither were overpowering with sweetness. They were perfectly flavored and the shells had the best crunch. My iced latte was also delicious. This was the best coffee I had while visiting NYC this weekend. During a recent surprise food tour I planned for my fiancé, which started in Chinatown and ended in Little Italy, we had the pleasure of stopping at Caffe Palermo. This food tour featured seven different restaurants, and Caffe Palermo was one of the locations we tried in Little Italy. At Caffe Palermo, we got to try some miniature cannolis. Normally, I'm not someone who orders cannolis, as they're not my go to dessert. However, these cannolis were surprisingly delicious and changed my usual perception. My fiancé also had her first ever cannoli here and truly enjoyed it. While I'm not sure if I would go out of my way just to return for the cannolis, I would definitely come back to Caffe Palermo to try their other desserts. I *will* admit that I only experienced Caffé Palermo's Gelato & Cannoli. So, here is my review on those two items: Service was on-point. I walked up to the counter; No wait. A lovely gentleman, with a smile on his face, issued a "What can I get for you?" and "Is this to stay or to go, Hun?". Great guy. The man ordered a Pistachio Gelato, I ordered a Chocolate Gelato, and we each got a traditional Cannoli to go. While waiting for our change from the cashier, I tried a spoonful of my Chocolate Gelato. Oh. My. Sweet. Baby. Geezus. I told the gentleman that handed me my Gelato: "This isn't Gelato... This is "Heaven". You're serving "Heaven" in these little cups, right here." He told me that the Gelato was imported from Italy on a frozen, sealed crate. That explained the *distinct authenticity* I tasted and felt. You see... there is an unmistakable difference between fake-Gelato (aka: Ice Cream) and authentic-Gelato. When you "chew" a spoonful of fake-Gelato, the spoonful will separate into two pieces, in your mouth, and STAY separated. True Gelato, when chewed, separates when your teeth are down but the moment you re-open your mouth (in attempts to chew again) the two pieces of Gelato "suction-cup" back together. True Gelato is slightly gummy. It's so rich, you can't really chew it. You have to be patient with it, allowing it to dissolve in your mouth. Ugh... Heaven. We had our Cannoli's when we got home. And again: Oh. My. Sweet. Mary. Mother. Of. God. Crisp shell, creamy, un-gritty/extra smooth filling, loaded with *just* enough chocolate chips, where it's not too much but definitely not too little. End result: I *highly* recommend Caffé Palermo for a dessert run. I apologize for no pictures but frankly, I scarfed it all down too fast to photograph my items, because it was all THAT good!! read more
