I didn't know about this cafe until I red one of the comments on yelp while searching the net. One particular comment made by someone who went there made me go and see it for my self. The person wrote:
"If I had any complaints, it'd be that the very careful decor is almost too magazine-y -- a picture of some guy who looks like Ernest Hemingway on the wall, everything in the food display case has a small, logoed, laser-printed label, etc. It's immaculate and safe but about 0% edgy. Comfortable, though."
Immaculate and magazine-y? That must be unlike any caffe I saw in Vancouver! And I visited lots of them as I love coffee. Borne and raised in Europe I miss the original interior design, something unique; clean and friendly atmosphere.
Here I am in Cittadella and I am simply excited! Surrounded with ugly glass/metal building and seventies, low rise condos, you are approaching happy colour house with beautiful small garden and patio. You are entering a home, yet you are not at home! A young man, later found out is one of three owners, smiling and asking me what would I like. I took the table and the young men said: I'll bring it have a seat. Am I dreaming? I don't have to take it myself, can relax and be served? What a pleasure! I asked if I could look around, he said smilingly: absolutely! Take your time. All I could see was homey, tasty decoration with few paintings; lots of lights making the place look roomy, happy and warm.
Tables and chairs are matching the ambient as well as few antique peaces of furniture beautifully incorporated.
The taste of the coffee was so good that for an hour I was there I almost felt like I was in Italy, and believe me I spent many years in Italy and I know what I am talking about.
I visited the plaice many times and found out that one of the owners is interior designer who lived in Bologna for a decade. He and his partners incorporated their European background and style with relaxed and friendly Vancouver community. You can have a business meeting, work or study; you can bring your children or come alone and read newspapers. You will be served tasty, home made soups in immaculately clean bowls or plates. Tasty, friendly, good quality and so different from all those chains so much alike that you don't know are you having coffee in Burnaby or Delta. When you are in Cittadella, you know that it will be unique experience!
Let's be happy that someone came up with the idea to welcome people from all walks of life, different age groups and families. All three owners are highly educated, two of them in Vancouver and they know what is Vancouver missing. Human touch, good quality, healthy choice of food, excellent service and friendly atmosphere. We should embrace it as you can't find all this at one place.
Anything edgy will be attractive for the targeted group of youngsters ages 20-35. Cittadella is our community jewel where you can meet people, new friends or just focus on your laptop and feel like at home.
Thumbs up Dan, Alex and Philip! read more
