Although this place tends to be more of a coffee/tea joint, their culinary options are remarkably better than the surrounding cafes and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. I worked and lived two blocks away from this place for better part of a decade and this was a spot I frequented often. The staff is always very friendly and they actually seem like they like working. Yeah, I said it, they are noticeably kind and respectful (I've had some crazy coffee requests) The few times I've sat down and drank coffee or had a bite to eat, I was the only one there. It's mainly a grab and go kind of place (usually back to the office or somewhere in the park). However, I will note that the space is extremely clean and well kept. Any time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll stop by, say what's up and grab something. It's just the kind of place you hope will always thrive, so I'm happy to throw them some business. read more

There are many positive words to describe "Caffe Centro". A few that come to mind are 'quaint', 'relaxing', 'therapeutic'. You can kind of get the picture of where we're going here. And this is on a journey to a little hidden gem in the South Beach area of San Francisco. Conveniently located next to South Park Playground and close to Bryant and 3rd St's, this little place has been serving up big things inside dating back to 2005. To those of you that remember, much of South Beach went through a major revitalization from the early-2000's to late-2010's. And there is still a ton of work and construction being done on a daily basis. Since I was in need of a coffee fix, I came here during the morning of Saturday 4/1/2023 at around 11:20am. Parking (at least on a Saturday) wasn't all that bad but I can imagine is tougher to find during the workweek. The exterior of the building has a light canary yellow color complete with the business name on the awning and several tables/chairs for outdoor seating. The inside of the building offers generous seating, a display case that showcases compact lunches to go, and drinks that include bottled water, sodas, teas, Kombucha, and beer. They do offer a nice offering of sandwiches, salads, bagels, and of course, coffee/espresso drinks. During my visit, I ended up ordering a "DIY Bagel" which included sesame seeds on the bagel complete with cream cheese, alfalfa sprouts, and cucumbers. To drink, I enjoyed a "Blended Mocha" (which was more or less similar to a Frappuccino drink). My +1 went with their "Breakfast Wrap" that included potatoes, eggs, and onions with an "Iced Vanilla Latte". Our drinks were done in just a few minutes while our food came out only a few minutes later. I will say that with the skyrocketing food prices everywhere you go, the prices here were fairly decent as I was able to get filled up on my bagel and drink for around $12 (including tax). The bagel itself was toasted perfectly and as you can see in the photo I took, they did not skimp on the food. I even tried some of the breakfast wrap and man, this thing is loaded with food; enough to fill you up for awhile. Overall, "Caffe Centro" was an above average and enjoyable experience if you're looking for a quieter spot to read, study, or do work on your laptop. They have generous hours of operating being opened Monday through Saturday from 8am-3pm and closed on Sunday. They offer a decent Wi-Fi speed and location-wise, this place is within walking distance to Oracle Park, nearby shopping, and public transportation. With that said and done, I am giving Caffe Centro a 4-star rating. read more

So happy this place re-opened! Always walked past it on my way to work when it was open and when it closed for a few months. Glad to be in on this little community coffee place. The food is ok. I ordered a sandwich a while ago and forgot to leave a review. What really turned me off was while taking a break from work, I left to get a drink and decided to come here. They've been out-the-window-only through so much of the pandemic (so what's up with that review claiming someone ordered inside and was treated badly, during the window-only period? Reviewing a different business?). So now you can take a table inside like old times -- and open the window you're sitting next to. There are still lots of outdoor tables and chairs if you prefer that on a nice day. Everyone here is super-nice and cheerful, same staff for years. This is a gem, tucked away in the heart of South Park. My boss took our team here for lunch this week and I must say that the ingredients are some of the freshest I've had on a sandwich. 5 out of 6 of us ordered the roast beef (toasted); I highly recommend it. The bread was like a ciabatta, flaky and light. The veggies were well-proportioned to the meat, and the meat was thinly sliced and delicious. There are some great menu items, but not too many that you feel overwhelmed. They also have breakfast sandwiches/bagels and an espresso bar. There's some room to dine-in; however, the park is directly outside and there's plenty of seating. If you like people watching and dogs, this might become your regular spot. read more

Update: The previous side wall is now bare, with the menu moved to behind the order station/register. This is a sandwich shop that also serves a variety of healthy fare. They have good sandwich combinations and everything looks good - not unhealthy - and the portions are just big enough, not overwhelming. The place is like a house converted and looks like a bistro. Their paint scheme (yellow and bright) makes it cozy and inviting. The outdoor seating is nice. Nearby workers are the main customers as the place is away from the main streets, but it isn't entirely hidden. If you're at South Park you will see it - it's worth a visit. read more

Had plans to go to Blue Bottle a few steps away. The curling line out of the establishment was a bit of a turnoff. Yelped for another outstanding coffee joint nearby- voila Caffe Centro. Had my usual-Americano but iced version. Reminds me of Case Study in Portland. Balanced with nothing excessive. Caffeine kick was mild and minimal. Bitterness and acidity were well balanced by the natural sweetness of the coffee. Pricing was fair and reasonable. The establishment is located in a very pretty neighbourhood with a slice of a park in front. Ambiance alone is worth coming here. Staff were friendly and courteous. Happy workers = good coffee. IMO is a contender to Blue Bottle coffee. I prefer a quaint quiet cafe like Centro over a super crowded, long lined hyped cafe like Blue Bottle near by. The coffee here in essence is not worse, since neither make distinctively strong or memorable coffees. Very mild and everyday 5 cups drinkable coffee. read more

Humbled by a sandwich. I have grown quite fond of this cozy cafe tucked in the heart of South Park, particularly their ready-to-go sandwiches behind the front display. The simplicity of salty salami and creamy cheese sandwiched between a chewy baguette is a comforting reminder that less is more. They usually have 3 kinds of sandwiches wrapped and ready to go behind the glass display and are happy to heat it up upon request. Their ham and swiss sandwich is also very good. When I came here, I really wanted to like this place because the food looks beautifully prepared. I would give them three stars for the food though, as it was kind of bland, and they get the extra star for really good customer service! I ordered a hazelnut latte, got the free sweet treat, which incidentally is not just any sweets but rather one of their cookies. And I also ordered a Cobb salad and a water. The chicken on the cob salad had zero flavor but the bacon was great. The Cobb salad comes with a balsamic dressing that is pretty uninspired, mostly just kind of vinegary, no layers of flavor or anything special at all. I asked to try the other dressings that they had, seeing only a citrus orange (had almost no flavor) and Caesar dressing on the menu. The person who helped me brought me out an extra dressing that was Lemon flavored and it was delicious! It truly saved the meal from being just blah. Thanks for the lemon dressing! Cookie was okay, I got peanut butter, it was a little moist and chewy and also a little dry and crumbly. Latte was pretty ordinary but nicely made and due to the hazelnut, a little sweeter like I prefer. My water had black grit swirling in the bottom of the glass which I didn't notice til the end of my meal so that wasn't great but not a huge deal. If I lived closer, I would probably go back to try other things on the menu because the portions were generous and the quality of the ingredients seems high. After I was done eating, the person who gave me the dressing asked me which I liked more and I appreciated that he remembered and cared and it gave me a chance to thank him for including something I didn't ask for but which actually saved my meal! Given how nicely these dishes were made and the fact that the menu is half salads: if this was my restaurant I'd probably try to offer some additional dressings that really highlight the efforts being applied in the kitchen and make the food sparkle with brighter flavors and layers of taste for the patrons like me who are looking for something more zippy. read more

Decent spot for lunch in South Park. Nothing extraordinary per se but you'll find a decent selection of freshly-made salads and sandwiches. Plus they accept bitcoin too if you have those lying around. Good options: Kale salad with quinoa, avocado, feta, pine nuts in a lemon vinaigrette. Bright dressing and nice textural contrast with the quinoa and pine nuts. Cobb salad with grilled chicken, bacon, egg, tomato, and blue cheese. It's a hearty, meaty salad and great if you like blue cheese. The bacon can be a little too crispy/borderline tough. The sandwiches are fine but unimpressive. Usual go-tos like a tuna salad or roast beef. Ironically I've found the salads to be more filling. The Pasta Portofino salad is a big serving of pasta but I've found it to be under seasoned. It gets pretty packed at lunchtime and finding standing space while you wait for your order can be interesting. Still for under $10 lunch, Caffe Centro is a legitimate option in South Park/SoMa. read more

It's a nice lil location if you want to grab a cup of coffee and either relax for a bit or have a chat. It started off as another overcast day in SF until the skies opened up and rained all over my parade. I was joining my girlfriend for lunch and I wanted to try something new, so I braved the 5 blocks of rain to get to South Park and we dipped into Caffe Cento. Their menu is mostly run of the mill salads and sandwiches and prices are pretty high given the location. I got the chicken sandwich which came served with, well, nothing really. It was just ok for me, and my girlfriend's soup was on the watery side. Caffe Centro was very meh for me but is very popular with the local tech workers. I much prefer the offerings at HRD for every reason and will be going there instead from now on. Luckily Centro has some tables outside for your dog but they're not allowed inside. I feel terrible that this review is so long overdue! I love this small, charming and friendly cafe. I eat here whenever I'm in the South Park area. I also work remotely here from time to time when I get sick of Atlas. The cafe doesn't have a huge amount of table space but patrons often ask if you'd like to share their table and there are also a couple of tables (and the entire park) outside. The menu is varied enough that I can always find something I want to eat, either for lunch or an afternoon snack. The food is consistently really good (think cafe, not bistro fare) and the service is unfailingly friendly. And yes you can pay in cash (looking at you HRD)! Highly recommended. read more

It is located next to a small park, and that is where the good things end. We visited last evening for a quick bite and did not have good experience. We ordered the hummus and avocado sandwich and the turmeric tea. The tea was decent. Though it felt like they had added sugar to the water without checking if I wanted or not. The sandwich however was where we're surprised with the service. We noticed that it did not have any hummus and mentioned that to the person at cash register. He looked at it and was like it has exactly the amount the sandwich should have. This is when hummus was nowhere to be seen. We asked him to give us some on the side because we could not see anything in the sandwich. And he asked us to pay for the side. Centro is my go-to afternoon coffee spot! Basically, Centro is your place if you want a chill place to get some coffee to go. I work right across the street and I come here regularly for all kinds of things, all of which are great. They have a selection of hot teas that are all good. If you want something a little fancy, I recommend the chai latte. The coffee is good too--my favorite is the blended mocha! It's creamy and smooth with a nice balance of coffee-chocolate flavor without being overwhelming. As for the food, you really can't go wrong. I love their açaí bowl with fresh bananas and coconut. It's tasty and feels more like a breakfast or a snack than a whole meal. Also, their breakfast sandwiches are flavorful and not at all dry like some sandwiches can be. In particular, I love the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel. They have tons of other stuff to try too! Definitely stop in for lunch if you pass by. A little note: Caffe Centro is a bit small and usually pretty packed, so I wouldn't really say that it's a good 'sit and get work done' cafe, but there's a small park right outside with benches and tables that make for a nice sit down spot.
