This place is just okay. I've seen it all over the city & most people raved about it. This place is a 10 minute walk from my place. Went to eat here for breakfast and I wasn't pleased at all. Items reviewed are of my personal opinions. Açaí bowl $13(ish +tax) ; I was never really into these things and figure it was just a yogurt blend concoction. My sister ordered this. And you know what, IT IS just a yogurt blend concoction. Whoever mixed this put it in a blender, threw some berries, coconut flakes and called it a day. It didn't taste..idk..exotic? Cause you know the "açaí trend". It tasted like a watered down blueberry smoothie. All I taste was blueberry. What actually makes this an "açaí bowl" ?!?! Strawberries and whipped cream waffle $10(ish+tax) ; I was reaaaaaally excited for this one, because of the simplicity of it. But it failed for so many reasons. Granted the waffle came out hot, but as the minutes went by, it was harder and harder to cut AND chew on. I know they microwave their waffles, like cmon. You just KNOW when something is cooked fresh and made to order. Even ihop makes people wait for their one of a kind fluffy pancakes! I've had pre packaged Belgium-style waffles from a gas station that tastes better than this. Wafles & Dinges tastes better than this. CMON SON Iced coffee $2-$4(ish +tax) ; This coffee was total trash. Watered down, bland, barely any caffeine. Pesto chicken sandwich $10(ish +tax) ; This was surprisingly good, sorta. The chicken was pre cooked and supppper rubbery. No grill marks at all. The presentation sucked. Mine came in cut in half with the wax paper still glued on. This sandwich came with 6 slices of rubber chicken, mustard seed pesto spread, 2 pieces of portobello mushrooms, small handful of spinach, and a mountain of mozzarella cheese to hold down the sandwich AND the wax paper. Ordered via my brother's Seamless account today. When the order was taking longer to arrive (30 minutes longer than estimated time) I decided to call. The owner of the store let me know that they use a third party (door dash) and they should have been there already. After a few minutes she was confused as to why it hadn't arrived (only live 7 blocks from their location) and she decided to hunt down the door dash person. She got the door dash person to call me who let me know that he went to Flushing to deliver this meal (how does that make any sense? Why would they deliver so far out?) I called the owner back to let her know that the door dash person was already out in Flushing and before I could request a refund she said "I'm going to make you an order myself and bring it to you- give me 15" hung up, and she did exactly that. She arrived in 15 minutes with my food, apologized and even said "I hope you like it" now if THAT is not the most ABOVE AND BEYOND customer service I don't know what is. She went out of her way to personally make me my food and bring it to me as quickly as possible and made sure the door dash person contacted me. I will never forget this and I just wish I didn't have a dog in the apartment so that I could have thanked her a little more kindly. This is my first time here, and will never go back again. The worker here is very rude; we were having conversation and he said we can't be too loud because it might disturb people surround us. But nobody complaints; and this is public space, not a library or a church where people have to be serious. I mean, we were having a good time before he said that, and then he came and we decided that we will not recommend this place to anyone. This Caffe bene seems to offer EVERYTHING under the sun in addition to coffee/tea beverages that one would expect from a cafe....waffles, sandwiches, bagels, wraps, hale and hearty soups, pastries and even yoghurt! More of a cafeteria than a cafe IMO. The offerings seem to expand every time I pass by this store. I've only tried the lattes and Machiatto here. I would say they're average - nothing outstanding and memorable. The place is a decent place to study. There are outlets to plug in chargers for laptops and whatnot and tables that can be used for individual or group use. There's also a bathroom which is nice. You do have to get a bathroom key from the register area. -1 star for service which is is sub-par. The people who work behind the counter have acted fairly rude for no reason on both occasions that I've stepped inside this establishment. -1 star for the internet. Inconsistent service -I had to tether from my phone after around 40 minutes of use. This is not a must-experience type of place if in the neighborhood. Zero stars (because I can't post w/o a star) and never coming back. Waiting for CoCo to open at this point. I ordered a strawberry mojito which consists of boxed strawberry purée, Sprite, slices of lime and a couple of raspberries. If I knew it was Sprite I would have ordered something else, but that's not the issue. They hand me my drink and you can see, without trying too hard, the mold on all 3 of the raspberries. So I wait to tell the employees and she turns around to let the other guy know to thrown out and make another. And this is the reason why I'm not coming back. He tried to fish out the molded raspberries which already made contact with my drink. Unsuccessful so he thought it was easier to use his fingers to grab them ALL out. Then proceeded to refill with Sprite and put more possibly molded raspberries even though I told him not to give me them. I told him I didn't want the drink because 1) it's still contaminated and 2) he put his dang fingers in my drink. After telling him I rather have a fresh drink due to those reasons or my money back, he made me a new drink and then tried to put raspberries in my drink again. Luckily I was hawking at this point and screamed as soon as he was going to place them in. Lesson learned from this experience: 1. They don't check their perishables properly 2. A significant work in progress. My neighbor texted me "Your Caffe Bene is finally open! I don't get what the big deal is..." On a Saturday, the line wrapped around the place, so I walked right back out and to Espresso 77. Today, at around 10:45AM, I figured, why not. The lines had died down a little bit. It was one of the most unorganized experiences I've ever witnessed. I've worked in retail, even opening up a new store, so the extra star is one out of sympathy. There were approximately 5-6 staff on duty and it was a hot mess of trying to figure out who ordered waffles, a lot manhandling the 'bacon bits,' figuring out how to use the fancy cash register screens, and general running around. One person, whom I assume was the manager, tried her best to help others out and answer questions, but it was very apparent how overwhelming things were. The decor is also strange. Most Caffe Bene's I've been to are calm and spacious. For some reason, there was an excess of seating here, with awkward and thick wicker-backed chairs. Very cafeteria-esque than cafe. I waited for almost 15 minutes to buy a drink from the refrigerator and an iced coffee. As I ordered my iced coffee, the young man turned around and asked "we don't have any iced coffee, do we?" How is that acceptable? His superior insisted, "Yes! I made some this morning." One of his colleagues rather efficiently swooped in and made said iced coffee for me. I was very patient, again out of sympathy, but noticed one or two people who just left while waiting on line. By the time my iced coffee was passed on to me, I wondered when, if ever, I've seen iced coffee look that translucent. They were out of half and half in the milk and straw station, but I didn't even want to bother bringing it up. By the time I walked out and had a sip, I tossed the whole thing in the trash. I'll wait around for them to sort themselves out, but the frenzied, I'm-not-sure-if-I've-ever-been-trained presentation, on top of pretty bad iced coffee has me holding my breath. I'm so conflicted by this Caffe Bene location. I've tried a few in the city and I've realized each location varies quite a bit (could be good and could be bad) but this one is the first one I've seen that mixes fluorescent white lights and soft vintage bulbs...it's like they're having an identity crisis. They sell fancy coffee drinks from a fancy espresso machine but their bakery items looked like the prepackaged ones you can get at deli's/bodega's. Like I said, identity crisis. The general fare is the same - misugaru latte, espresso drinks, etc, but this location has some interesting sandwiches other's don't have! Alas, if only their "specialty" mediterranean tasted as good as it sounds. Staff seems new and it shows, but hopefully with time they'll improve. Another thing that really bugged me was the pricing. I've gone to Caffe Bene's in the city that sold their dipped waffles for around $4.50 - at this location they sell it for $4.99...shouldn't costs be lower in Queens since overhead is lower as well? I'm kind of confused by how they determined their prices and frankly feel a little bit cheated. read more

Granted there was hardly a line but I still waited 10 minutes for my sandwich which is okay by me. Didn't have any coffee so can't comment on that. The coffee here is above average. Service however - perhaps a growing pain issue? The quality of service is problematic. On my first visit upon ordering and handing over my credit card, the girl behind the counter boldly told we - "We do not accept AMEX". This is problem number 1. When 5 of my colleagues and I go out for a working lunch, and we're required to use our AMEX corporate cards for all expenses - this just caused Caffebene to lose 6 customers. Not accepting American Express is unacceptable. I should mention that I've visited this coffee shop now, 4 times - and every time since that first time I am told, "we will have the ability to take AMEX in the future". Until that time, my wife and I are done with Caffebene - Starbucks is a block away, Espresso 77 (37th Ave/77th St) is amazing, and another couple blocks down - and they all merrily take my AMEX. Second customer service issue - I'm ok with service taking an extra 60 seconds if the associate doesn't rush the order and make a mess. I realize the feel they might be doing the customer a favor by loading the frozen coffee to the top of the brim - but when they add the lid, it causes an overflow, runs down the side and because I don't want to end up with dripping frozen coffee on my clothes, tie, or allover the interior of my car, I have to ask for it to be fixed. Third customer service issue - people who order drinks with dairy alternate is likely for a reason, potentially a health reason. When I tell the person taking my order "NO WHIPPED CREAM" - I shouldn't have to stand there and monitor the person preparing my order. Twice now, I received whipped cream when I specifically asked NOT to have it. Upon informing the girl of the incorrect order, she clearly looked annoyed - - it's not my problem that she didn't communicate better with the person taking the order. And for some reason she thought it was ok to "spoon it out" with a spoon that she had been using on other drinks, while still leaving globs of whipped cream in my coffee. I haven't been there for about two weeks, so hopefully the AMEX issue has been solved. Additionally, they need a better system put into place in order to maintain the integrity of the customer's order. Simply put, they need to exponentially improve efficiency. Once I see the AMEX sticker on the door, I'll go back - but for now, my wife and I, and our circle of friends will remain loyal to Starbucks or Espresso 77. I'm of the opinion that sandwiches are really hard to mess up. That being said, word of warning, perhaps I'm being too critical. While running errands, I stopped in to order a spicy chicken sandwich... CUSTOMER SERVICE: Place was pretty empty and service was slow. No one acknowledged me but when they did, they were nice. SANDWICH My sandwich was devoid of care. Mostly bread and 3 small chunks of rubbery chicken, a few leaves of wilted spinach, cheese, the sprouts-missing in action, all swimming in the spicy sauce. The wet to dry ratio was really off. The sandwich was really soggy and dripping because everything was swimming in the sauce. Does anyone else feel like when food gets messed up like that, that it's an insult to the ingredients that were used to make it? I haven't tried any the prepared foods, but in my opinion, if you do choose to come here that it's best to stick to the coffee and avoid anything that needs to be made when you order it or heated up. This place was a problem from the moment we walked in- they have a disorganized line that forms around the tables so when your online you have to stand behind people sitting. When we ordered they seemed confused but I hoped that they knew how to mix the required ingredients. We noticed a couple ahead of us waiting for their order and getting frustrated- they were finally served and complained that it wasn't what they asked for but accepted it due to the server looking completely lost. It took over ten minutes for them to even start making out order and from where we were standing it was clear that the guy either didn't know how to use a blender or it was broken because when he poured the drink it wasn't mixed at all. We asked him to fix it but he just dropped it back into the blender and walked away. The shift manager came over and said the blender isn't working and they don't have money for a better one. By this point we were getting upset and he tried again to hand us drinks that were not properly made - so we asked for a refund and again the server seemed totally lost. Not the most convenient location as it's farther down from the train and 82nd street but this makes it less hectic inside which is great for a coffee shop. It is a little cramped so it's difficult to get work done comfortably. The employees are very friendly but the prices seem a little high to me for a "hole in the wall" type of spot. I came for a quick meeting and grabbed an iced vanilla latte on my way out; pretty good but not great. It tasted a little bitter. The bathroom is really clean and you need to get a key from the cashier to go which I think is a great idea. If I'm ever back in the area I would pick this over the Starbucks down the block because it's less chaotic and cleaner. read more

So much to say about this place! Ambiance: The vibe is quaint and relaxing. Great to place to come study and/or grab a meal/snacks with friends Food: The menu is extensive & mesmerizing. Whether you're in the mood for something savory or sweet, healthy or in the mood to indulge and succumb to the fat devil inside of you; they'll have it for you. Service: Phenomenal. Even though the brand is a rival to SBux, Gregorys Coffee, etc., all of the Caffe Benes are franchises which means they're run by small business owners. A nice comfortable local coffee shop/eatery. Staff is pleasant and the surroundings are well lit and clean. A nice variety of drinks and foods, some fresh made, other premade. What you order will decide how much you like their food. Most salads are made well always fresh tasting. Had one of their pasta dishes today, bow ties with pesto, and it was over cooked and over sauced. In this case less, less cooking time and less sauce, would have been more. Limp pasta is never good and too much sauce becomes over powering to the pasta. Al dente is the way to go. This place needs some work based on the sandwiches my husband and I had today. I had the Mediterranean vegetarian one. What a mess. First of all, who puts a vegetarian sandwich on a white bread hero? And the inside was just a mush of avocado, feta, tomato and hummus that was glopped onto one small section of the hero. My husband had the spicy chicken. He was not impressed and it was very messy. I hope they get better because we were really excited to have another cafe in the neighborhood. I have been to Cafébene in the past and ordered takeout. the food is OK...good for a café nothing special. that being said, today I ordered a delivery and after an hour I called they said it would be another 10 minutes. 30 minutes later I called again and they said it would be another 10 minutes. It finally arrived after total of an hour and 40 minutes. I also noticed they charged me twice so I had to speak with the manager to make sure I got a refund. I really like this place. I been coming here for months now, I use to go before to Starbucks but never again since I checked out this place and they make my cappuccino the way I like it. The place is very clean and the staff is very nice. I got to mention that I stop going to Starbucks because of their stupid covid restrictions and the coffee is nothing like it use to be, at Starbucks if you want stronger coffee they ask you if you want extra shots and they charge you extra.
