After having a disappointing experience at Antico's pizza nearby, decided to go get some gelato since it was in the vicinity and who can say no to gelato, right?! Cafe Antico was no better. It's a cute shop from the outside but inside it is a bit small and limited seating. However, you can sit outside since there's more tables. Looking at the flavors with Italian names, it was a bit hard to decide what to get. What made it worse was seeing the dreaded NO SAMPLES sign! I was a bit appalled/flabbergasted/ suprised that they don't allow samples. This crushed my heart..okay I'll stop over exagerating but for any gelato/ice cream place, samples are a must! If im going to pay $5 for a small scoop of gelato with a circular cone piece garnishing it, you better let me try before I buy. Just saying. I picked out a salted caramel flavor and it was good not great. Would I come back here? No, not even if it was on someone else's dime. Owners-pleae rethink your policy. read more

Legit gelato in the city (if you want to know what's legit, just look at how the gelato is displayed--if it's raised super high in piles of a mountain of gelato, it's not legit. It's only legit if it's packed to the brim of the ice box area. Because it's gelato, not ice cream. Now you know, so don't get scammed). Weird how they give you only one flavor to taste. Biscotti e crema is literally cookies and cream and tastes just like that. If you like pistachio, they have a good flavor here. Ok I am someone who takes my thin crust pizza VERY seriously and this place is probably the best I've had in my 10+ years in Ga. I order the "diavola" (basically a spicy pepperoni pizza) and Prosecco (overpriced for the miniature bottle but I digress), but I would certainly order both again as the pizza is rather salty and what's pizza without a cocktail?! When I return I will bring my own alcohol as this place is a game changer and patrons are allowed to "byob"!! My SO order the margherita d.o.p with fungi and although I wasn't a fan they really enjoyed. Stopped in yesterday, and while the patio area and interior of the cafe are clean, the bathrooms were WRECKED. There were no paper towels to be found, except sodden and thrown all over the floor. I had to go into the other bathroom to get the last remaining shred of toilet paper. There's a taped up hole in the wall, soap dispenser on ground, multiple plastic cups discarded on floor, etc. Just gross. I went to order a drink at the bar area, and when I received it, I noticed an ant floating on the top of the drink. Tbh this was something I was just going to pick out myself rather than waste the drink. But the bartender noticed me point out the ant to my friend, and she gestured for me to give her the drink back. I thought she would perhaps pour a new drink, but no, she picked out the ant for me and gave the cup back to me lol. Thanks? To be generous, maybe she didn't realize it was an ant... I think for $13, getting an insect-less drink is kind of bare minimum. Personally I was also put off by the fact the drinks came in plastic cups rather than glass, as I'm sure a lot of that gets tossed in the trash rather than recycled. read more

Walked in. Asked what the pink ice cream was. The lady rolled her eyes. Looked away. AND WHILE CHEWING GUM ON TOP OF ALL THE HELATO said strawberry with the will of working of a child who would rather be playing on Snapchat than be serving and providing service. We immediately left. The gelato was pretty good, 3 stars worth, but my 4th star attributes to the overall atmosphere and cute, intimate setting. No samples for gelato- this was a 1st for me! If you come in a group, have someone order first and you can at least get a little sample of theirs :P the 2 scoops was more than enough for 2 people. My fiancee and I got the fragola (strawberry) and hazelnut. I liked the fragola more. My other 2 friends shared cappuccino and pistachio which were also pretty good! Awesome place!!! Capacity gelato and a illy espresso so in love with this spot! And the outside area was to die for. Such a nice cool evening sitting outside near the outdoor bar. You can also bring ur pizza over from antico and eat it outside. I will be going back! Why did I mark 4 instead of 5 stars.....well I left my purse there and I called to see if anyone handed it in or if they could check where I left it. I gave the exact location and they said that it wasn't there and that there were people sitting there now. I arrived 20 minutes after leaving and there was a couple sitting there I apologized for the disturbance and explained what happened and they gladly let me look. IT WAS THERE! So they really didn't take the time to look properly for me. Very disappointing, however that's what happens when you have children working for you. read more

I guess you have to consider this place for what it is: an overflow lounge for the pizza place across the street. Once you are full with delicious, dougy pizza, then just wander across the street where you can plop down and relax with a coffee, gelato, or slice of dessert. I got gelato and my wife got the caramel cheesecake. The gelato was pretty good, not terrible, but didn't have me rushing to go back. I think it was a little less dense and flavorful than I wanted. The cheesecake, on the other hand, was strickly "meh" and we didn't even finish it. It was very dense but lacked flavor. Neither cheese nor caramel was coming through. Felt like empty calories. A few other dings against this place: no samples, and it's a little bit expensive. It was very nearly as expensive as our pizza across the street. If it were as good as the pizza, then maybe.... Not sure why the low review because I can't think of a single complaint. It's really just a chill spot, inspired by the Italian Amalfi Coast. The gelato is great, I love the strawberry, mint, and tiramisu. They lay rocks and turf, plants, string lights and outdoor seatings to resemble the relaxing Mediterranean ambiance. It's also BYOB style. This is definitely one of my go to neighborhoods for many years. There is parking lots and street parking as well. read more

You lost 6 costumers due to the no samples policy. At least make a policy called "mandatory purchase with samples" or something along those lines. 1) Even though it is possible to order 3 scoops of ice cream, there are only two combinations permitted for those three flavors (even though 12+ flavors are offered), and employees refuse to substitute flavors citing "strict house rules". 2) After I gave into the strict house rules and paid for the 3-flavor combination that was not my preference, I was provided the ice cream without the biscotti that is stated to come with the order. The employee stated "we ran out of biscotti". 3) I asked for a partial or full refund based on not receiving what was stated on the menu, and the employee refused, stating "this is why we offer tasting spoons". (First, this comment was irrelevant to the fact that I did not receive my order as expected; missing biscotti has nothing to do with tasting the gelato flavors before ordering. My friends and I came here after a lovely dinner at Gio's. We walked in and there a line and as we waited, I noticed that they only had one door as the entrance and exit. It was a bit annoying as we continually had to move to let people go by. Then, I found that they dont do samples!! I was initially panicking because how I was I going to decide what to get?!?! Went to Italy this past summer + also went to ATLy a couple weeks ago to Antico + then Caffe Antico for dessert. Wasn't planning on getting gelato + then we walked in. Who was I kidding, we were getting gelato. We asked the server what his favorite flavors were + he said salted caramel + cinnamon vanilla. Oh boy. This is easiest the best gelato in the city. As someone who has had the real deal (in Italy), Cafe Antico defiantly is the next best thing. I had the cappuccino flavor, which was good. Thought I would finish off my Antico's Margarita Pie with some gelato from Cafe Antico. Had only been one time shortly after it opened. Boy, what excitement was brewing inside of me for this treat . Well, that was not to happen. The young lady behind the counter did agree to give me 2 samples...sign only says 1 ‍ with so many options. So Made my first selection then thought...I'm sooo not sure what will go with this, cause I was in "Fat Girl" (I say that with love, not judgement!) mode. So I asked for 2 more and I would make a choice. She says she can't. I offer to pay for samples or give a nice tip (which I ALWAYS DO WHEN YOU ACTUALLY SERVE ME). She says she can't. The only affogato -- vanilla gelato "drowned" in espresso -- that I've found in the Atlanta area! I could come here every day just for that (if it weren't so far to drive). The Gelato is wonderful! I give this place 3 starts for the quality of the Gelato. Unfortunately the staff took away from a lovely product. I work in the restaurant industry and I know how valuable customer service is for repeat business. The girl at the counter was very unfriendly so I was hesitant to order at all. I was with my family and they really wanted Gelato. I would have left based on the poor customer service if I had been by myself. I didn't expect over the top friendliness from the girl serving us but what we got was an attitude that made us feel uncomfortable like we were wasting her time. I won't be back.
