Sorry for desecrating the food before taking a pic...but mark my words this dish was delicious..flaky salmon with these awesome shredded carrots in a curry coconut sauce blend and pickled beets, perfect lunchtime item with variety. Not pictured, but as everyone else is raving, the lamb curry was incredible. Order extra rice with it to get all the sauce. We ate outside, has a bright orange awning with some seating outside..inside a little dark but probably perfect for an intimate date and some good wholesome Nepalese dishes. Right by subway station but noise is drowned out by sound of food being shoveled in your face. read more

Cafe Tibet - Himalayan/Nepalese Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Tucked in right next to the Cortelyou BQ subway station, it can be easy to walk right by this place without noticing. But once you're inside, you can barely hear the trains. Very cosy and colorful, plenty to look at on the walls, even if there isn't much natural light. There's also outdoor seating. Of course the main attraction is the food! Pages and pages of vegan and vegetarian deliciousness! They have a generous lunch special until 4pm (welcome to Brooklyn), $10 for a tali platter. I particularly recommend the okra, which is tender and flavorful, the beets, which have a light dressing that doesn't overpower, and the chana which are crispy without being overly greasy or salty. The lentil daal is excellent and full bodied, and they don't skimp on rice. Soups and noodle dishes are also great, and you must try the tingmo. Stock up on Tibetan groceries next door to try it by yourself at home! read more

This place is a definite hole in the wall... meaning you'll easily miss it unless you search it out. It's located right next to the train station and outdoor seating in front, small indoor seating (overall it's a very small neighborhood restaurant). The service was very attentive- definitely try the Tibetan ice tea (it's like a iced chai latte), spicy chili chicken, lamb curry all with ting mo (it's basically like a steamed bun) to soak up all the sauces. Also had the sha baklap (it's like deep fried beef patties) but I think it can be skipped. read more

It really is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. They have an expansive menu and are pretty knowledgeable/cautious if you have a food allergy. My only issue with this place was the service. People who came in after us were being served before us and then when it came time for the check it was hard to get anyone's attention. I'll be trying this spot again, because the food was great. read more

My favorite restaurant in the area. I love their chili dishes (beef chili, shrimp chili), momos, noodle is soup, and Tibetan iced tea.

This place is authentic as it gets. It's weirdly, but conveniently, located directly to/above a train station. This place is cozy and calm-very intimate space, but not too intimate. Also, the eclectic music was quite quirky. The food here is AWESOME. FIRSTLY, let's address the homemade hot sauce: I don't know what the hell's in it, but it's freakin' delicious. I lathered it over all my dishes, not that they absolutely needed to be, it was just that good. The Sukuti, which is stir-fried dried beef bits and chopped onions [which is also cooked with the delicious hot sauce I mentioned] is so flavorful. The Shogo - Khatsa, which is curried potatoes is also very tasty. The Cafe Tibet Thali offers several of the food groups; the chicken 'curry' that was included was pretty mild, compared to other ethnic curries. The Momos are tasty, although if you're bored of eating steamed dumplings (being of Asian descent,of course),I'd advise not to order it. I wasn't a fan of the veggie ones, I thought it lacked flavor. Ginger Chicken is "very tasty" and " the chicken is in meatball form", as Vanessa G. says, and it comes with plentiful rice. Prices and portions are good; you totally get what you pay for, service is okay, size is cozy, music and lighting is nice- And there aren't that many Tibetan places.I'm definitely coming back here. read more

Adore this little spot. Overall environment here is so great. Easily the most flavorsome dish was Ginger Chicken, me and my friend just loved it. It was so delightful. The team is very pleasant. I really appreciated that. See you again Cafe Tibet. read more

Yesterday was my first time eating Tibetan food and it was delish. I live in this neighborhood and have been wanting to stop in this place for a while and am happy that I did. I decided to take my order to go just in case it didn't agree with my tummy (if you know what I mean). I tried the Shrimp Chilli with Tingmo (steamed bread). It was soo good with the right amount of spice. The restaurant is tight (as in small) with 6 tables inside and a few tables outside. The decor is great minus the chipping paint. This will definitely be my new neighborhood takeout spot. read more

Here I had the best curry in my life! It was so creamy and spicy and the meat was also nice. Before we had some dumplings to share - also very good. I love the atmosphere in there, it's really authentic. A little bit small, but familiar. I will come back, when I will be in NY again! read more

This is a cute little spot in the cut in Flatbush Brooklyn. I never go to Flatbush but when I found this place I had to try it as I was curious about Tibetan food and the reviews made it even more enticing. We had the chicken and veggie momo half friend and half boiled. The veggie one did have much of a developed favor but the chicken one was really good. My friend ordered the ginger chicken with half rice and half bread which she said was really good she loved the flavor combination of the ginger and the spice. I ordered the lamb curry it was really good. It have me Indian and Thai fusion with a little kick. The flavors were delicious but the lamb didn't sit well with my stomach. I have never had lamb before and I am a pescatarian. I wanted to try it once and only once. There was my moment lol. You should definitely check out the place you like adventure with your taste buds! read more

Oh Cafe Tibet! What a wonderful little restaurant. I just joined Yelp and I could not think of a better business to write my first review about. The first time my husband and I came to this restaurant was before we moved to Ditmas Park and before we knew we were even going to move there. Two months later we moved around the corner and began eating there 2-3 times monthly for the two years that we lived there. The Vegetarian Curry was my go to dish but at times I ventured to the Ginger Tofu or to Shogo Ngopa which were both pretty great. The Chana-Khatsa is also pretty awesome but it has a kick to it so sometimes it can be a bit much to start off with (depending on your tolerance for spicy food). My husband was a huge fan of the lamb curry and the ginger chicken. BYOB is also a plus. The only negative is that it is very small so it isn't good for groups of more than 6. We miss you Cafe Tibet! read more

The food was pretty good just wish the portion sizes were a bit bigger for the price.

I feel some type of way giving this place a 3-star, but it's only because someone told me everything tasted like incense and slightly tainted my experience.... BUT IF YOU HAVE THE TIBETIAN ICED TEA you'll get over the (sometimes) pungent flavors. I visit about once every two years and end up getting the same Garlic noodles, which turns out to be spicy EVERY TIME ... My fault for forgetting my relationship with Mr. Garlic Noodles is like an ex that sucks in real life... But sounds good on paper. Ughh please, someone stop me from going back to Mr. Garlic Noodles ... Him and his spicy a$$ noodle and nothing else to offer! CASH ONLY- TRY THE MOMOS + TIBETIAN ICED TEA! read more

We've been loyal customers since this unique restaurant first opened. We love the the fried Momos, Lamb Thali and Pork Chili ( especially when they have the fatty pork). Everything is always done consistently well. My only criticism is that they are not fast but being a family-run business adds to their charm. read more

Delicious food for great prices! Cute seating area over the train. Got fried veggie momo and it was so delicious! A big portion too. And the veggie tsam-thuk soup was a little cup, but a good size for just $5. read more

It's amazing. Go there. Eat the curry. Then go back and eat it again. I've been back multiple times. The best part is the curry, with their fluffy bread dipped into it. The nomad pasta soup is also baller, with buttery, slippery noodles in an almost minestrone-like broth. Heads up, cash-only. But there's an ATM in the shop attached. read more

I was really impressed. It's small but it has outdoor seating. My sister order the Chicken Curry and I ordered the Pork Momo. Prices were really good and I enjoyed every bite! The gave a spicy sauce and mild sauce to go with the dumplings. The price came to about $25 or $26 including tip. Would go back again! read more

Full disclosure, I had no idea what I was ordering, but the prices were friendly enough that I felt inclined to explore. The momo was the standout dish, vegetarian puffs with a SUPER spicy sauce. I love spice and Cafe Tibet did not disappoint. I ate the dish with a papaya salad to cool my mouth after every bite. If you love spice this is where you want to be. The restaurant is small so do not come with a large group, but the food is like nothing I've had before. read more

This small hidden hole in the wall was almost elusive to my eyes, but I found it! It was a small place, but the ambience is very soothing and the inspirational quotes and decor are worth feasting your eyes on. I got the vegetable patty, which was essentially a giant momo/empanada. My friends ordered tofu fried rice and beef momos. The food could've used a little more seasoning and flavor, but I liked how it wasn't full of grease and the prices were really good. The staff members were all really nice. I'll be back to try other things! read more

I hate to go about it this way, but I can't find any info for how to contact an owner or manager: If you own Cafe Tibet, this review is specifically for you. You destroyed your restaurant when you lined the walls with that awful fake brick paneling. I've been coming to Cafe Tibet for years, and always felt a great sense of calm and relaxation walking into your cozy little space; with those lush green walls and warm complimentary decor. The atmosphere was the perfect compliment to your always amazing food, and elevated the dining experience to one of near spiritual bliss. This summer, however, I came in to find the afore-mentioned fake brick carelessly slapped over the previously gorgeous walls. I no longer felt like I was walking into a warm embrace. Now I felt like I was eating in a back-alley. It wasn't inviting. It wasn't cozy. It was claustrophobic and uncomfortable. I haven't been into your restaurant since, though I miss your food terribly. I thought about coming in tonight, until I remembered what I'd be in for, which is why I decided to write this review... before going to eat somewhere else. I'll be back in the spring, when it's warm enough to sit outside again. Until then, I just can't bring myself to walk through your door. Please bring back the old Cafe Tibet! Let me know when you do, and I'll be at a table as soon as I can get there. read more

I am a fan of this quaint eatery, everything about it rings authentic. I have eaten here before and can say the food is consistent. The curry is rich and I love the use of tomatoes in the dishes. I didn't like the peanut inspired sauce that came as a condiment so I was happy that it was not infused into the food. My two reasons for not giving five stars are portion size and they do not accept credit cards. read more

Everything was great - hospitality up to par and cozy environment. We ordered chicken curry and a vegetable dish - yum yum yum

Come throoooooough hole in the wall Tibetan restaurant. This place is one of my local favorites. Definition of a hidden gem. Without Yelp, I would not know the place existed. I have walked by here many a time and simply not noticed what I was walking by. The entrance is super thin. I've gone here on a few occasions. Their teas are delicious. A friend had either the butter tea or butter coffee. I don't remember which. But enjoyed it. I want to say tea. If you ask your waitress I'm sure she'll tell you what is more traditional. I've had the beef momo, which was delicious. Prices seem reasonable. It's a tad bit cramped but just don't come here with a massive party and you should be fine. Check them out! read more

I've long heard tell of the momo's hidden behind the asian bodega, by the cortelou subway stop. they'd since acquired this grand epicurean romanticism in my mind: the undiscovered fort hamilton nepalese treat. something to remind me of my time there 15 years ago. a food that would bring back all the hidden memories of my childhood, to ease the pains of my youth. it was all incredibly built up. and, instead, it was just a dumpling. a mixed combo plate of dumplings, to be precise. (and not even nepalese! whoops!) they were decent -- the spicy chicken was easily my favorite. (the vegetable dumplings were like a poor dimsum offering; the beef dumplings felt inappropriate for a non-beef eating nation.) the dough was thicker than I would have liked, but they were also freshly made to order, and steaming hot. (on the topic of hot, the mild sauce is hot enough. the "super hot" sauce is just silly.) the hot honey ginger tea was fantastic. looked like a pre-war cocktail. tasted like warmth and love. read more

Came here with my friends and we decided to order off of the vegetarian menu...well, one did, the other friend couldn't handle it and ended up stuffing his face with spicy pork. Anyways, I ordered the silky tofu noodle soup with tomato paste ($9.99), my friend ordered the garlic noodles, and the other friend ordered the spicy pork with rice. We started off with spicy chickpeas and boy was it amazing! I highly recommend that a starter! The garlic noodles were stir fried with shredded carrots and peas. This dish was good and I should've ordered it. I felt like my silky tofu noodle soup wasn't worth $10, since I could've made it myself, there was nothing special about the dish... The interior is cramped, but the decorations are oddly fascinating! read more

This seemingly hole in the wall spot ended up being a gem find. It's a small restaurant as it's only a long hallway for seating during the colder seasons (they have a batch of seating outdoors). I got to try a few items which were interesting-- my favorite was the leek soup and the beef empanada. A lot of the food was spicy so i was glad to see they were attentive with the water refilling. Not a spot for big groups but I'd recommend for a friend or romantic date. read more

My fiancé and I have been dying to try this place, but our schedules haven't allowed for it. Today we finally dropped in and were so bummed out. The service was just weird and confusing. There were two waitresses and one woman behind the counter for 3 tables dining. When we got there one guest was leaving and one guy was already eating. We sat down and got menus and no one was taking out order. We kept staring at the waitresses but they weren't paying us mind. Finally when two other women came after us, they paid attention and took our order. We just ordered two iced teas and beef Momos. Now I understand it's a small place, but there was barely anyone dining and they had more than enough staff for the tables they had. We waited like 45 minutes for momos that were honestly bland. What really annoyed us was that the women who came after us ordered like 3 dishes and were served immediately and constantly checked on. We had to wave someone down repeatedly for a check. I asked for a coffee to go and the check. She said ok sure and dropped the check and left. Another 10 minutes to get her attention to tell her the coffee was not on the check she said ok I'll get it. The other woman comes and said what were you asking her? I said I asked for a coffee to go but it's not on the check and she says oh we don't have coffee. ---- why is coffee on the menu then? And why couldn't the waitress tell me that the first time I ordered? I honestly just think they didn't care for us as customers. They just wanted us out which we were more than happy to do. The iced tea was amazing! But not worth a trip back if we aren't valued as customers. read more

My friend and I went there like mouth ago. Everything was perfect. Only one little thing..we were waiting for a long time for our food. But maybe because they were making fresh momo for me. Haha. There are some restaurants which when you enter you get transformed into a completely different world, and Cafe Tibet is one of those. Tucked away in Brooklyn, it is right below the Q line, and would almost seem that it is closed or doesn't exist. When you enter,a cozy spot opens up in front of you with 5-6 tables and colorful wall art all around. It is a cash only place. Being from India we are used to a lot of Indo-chinese food, and food which has originated from the Chinese, Tibetian areas and spread it's influence across India. What I personally love here are the momos! (they are like dumplings) My other favorite dishes are the chicken curry and the Bombay style chilli chicken. I would come here again to explore the other items on the menu. read more

Really wish I found this place sooner. Very small spot and easy to miss, but totally worth finding it. Never had Tibetan food before, so don't have a comparison but every single thing we ordered was great. Only way to describe this cuisine is a mix of all the things I love about Thai, Indian and Chinese cuisine. The food: Momo: delicious version of dumplings Lamb Curry: Perfectly cooked, great level of spice and flavor Mango Shrimp: Sweet and balanced flavors Very excited to go back and try the rest of the menu, and wish it can fit a bigger group so I can order more things to try in one sitting. Note: Believe this was cash only read more

I've eaten here for many years and used to love it. Incredible food. Until this year. They seem to have changed chefs and/or owners or something. Several dishes taste completely different and just aren't tasty at all. Even their formerly amazing orange sauce tastes *nothing* like it used to. First time trying cuisine from Tibet, and what an amazing experience. I love dumplings and curry, and this place had some of the best lamb curry and fresh veggies and beef dumplings I've ever had. Juicy, succulent, and fresh ingredients. I love the steamed bun that you can dip right into the curry. Portion size was very generous and great prices too. Tibetan iced tea was like nothing I've had before, I think there's lemongrass in it, which gives it a unique taste that washes down some of the spice in the food. The restaurant is very narrow with less than 10 tables, but the food was amazing. I would compare it to a mix on Indian and Thai food. Highly, highly recommend. I'll be coming back for sure. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. Went here with my boyfriend and his mom the first time. Now back again with the same people and an addition of his sister. We tried the sha-baklap, sholokhob noodles, chicken thali and pork thali. All delicious and flavorful! The ambiance is not so fancy, in fact it's quite small and sits about 5 couples. The service is very homey; waitress will answer anything and she's very detailed. These are the reason we came back! read more

Dare I say this is my favorite spot to eat in Brooklyn? Maybe even all of New York. The food here soothes my soul, seriously. It's so tasty with so many options that you really can't go wrong. My favorite is vegetarian coconut curry, as well as the carrot soup, thali, mung bean appetizer (blanking on the name). The momos are so perfect for a cold day too. I've never had a disappointing meal. It's cash only, which kinda sucks, but we always find a way to scrounge some up if we're in the area. read more

Our Airbnb-host recommended this place for us and we are very glad she did! We had dinner here twice and we loved it. Both the lamb curry, beef momo and Tsam Thuk were very good! I went here today for the first time with high expectations based on the stellar reviews. I left extremely disappointed, and based on what people have written, it seems that this restaurant used to be much better in the past... My boyfriend and I arrived here a few minutes past 12:30pm, right when they opened. It took me maybe 5-10 minutes to decide what to order - I decided to get the veggie sha-baklap, my boyfriend picked the pork chili, and combo momos to share. I liked the ambiance of the restaurant and enjoyed the smell of burning incense. Fast forward to 40 minutes after we placed our order, we still did not receive any food. The pork chili dish was the first to come out, and I had to watch my boyfriend eat his dish alone as I didn't want his food to get cold. I'm sure the waitress, at this point, noticed I was visibly upset since she came up to me and said the rest of the food will take a little longer because it needs to be fried.... I couldn't really understand this since fried foods are generally quick to come out. I noticed that someone who came much later than us received his fried momos right before we did. Anyway, we FINALLY got the rest of the food, and to be honest I thought both the momos and sha-baklap were very bland. The sha-baklap dough was crispy but flavorless, and the veggies did not taste seasoned at all. I liked the chicken momo the most out of all three. I ended up just eating one sha-baklap and taking the other two to go. I would not come back to this place, especially due to the extremely long wait when the restaurant was not busy. I pretty much had to wait an hour to do less than 10 minutes of eating. Bill came out to $40 for these three items which I thought was overpriced for what it was. read more

I would go to eat here everyday if I could. Words can't explain how great this little restaurant is. I stumbled on it about a year ago and go as much as I can! Quick headsup, this lovely and yummy place is closed for renovations until February 1st.

Ordered takeout from here, it took like one hour. The food was pretty good, tastes between Indian and Chinese. The fried buns were meaty and juicy in the middle, and I thoroughly enjoyed the mung bean in chili oil, it was quite spicy but an acquired taste. It was nice to try but nothing special. read more
