My husband and I are making it a mission to try new cultural cuisines/restaurants and I have always wanted to try Georgian food - however the only thing I really only knew about it was that they had big dumplings. Seeing those was enough for me to want to try! We went with two of our friends who have also never tried before. We went on a Sunday afternoon and arrived to a fairly empty plaza. There was one other table full besides ours and they seemed to be of Georgian background so that was already an indication that this restaurant was going to be authentic. We told our waiter that we have never had any kind of Georgian food before and to please give us recommendations. He was very kind and gave us great recommendations for newbies. We ordered: * eggplant rolls (fried eggplant with walnut-garlic paste) * khachapuri adjaruli (boat-shaped bread filled with cheese, butter, and an egg yolk) * veal khinkali (Georgian soup dumplings) * pork kebab * chkmeruli (chicken in creamy garlic sauce) We enjoyed - every - single dish. Oftentimes, eggplant can be a bit slimy, but however they prepared this eggplant, it was perfect. This is a cold dish. The khachapuri adjaruli was very rich. It was a bit messy to eat as there's no way to cut into this without the mixture oozing out. We saw the table next to us had ordered a different version of this (just with cheese alone) and they had no issue with a mess so I think it's because we had the one with the addition of butter and an egg yolk. Even though it was messy to eat, it was DELICIOUS. Honestly, this could've just been a full meal itself as it's incredibly filling. Just a suggestion to the restaurant to perhaps use a serving dish with edges for this particular khachapuri though to prevent spilling! The khinkali was our favorite of everything ordered. It was 5 very large dumplings in one order. Being of East/Southeast Asian and used to smaller sized dumplings, seeing how big these were was a treat! The waiter kindly taught us how to properly eat these (hold the stem, flip it upside down, take a nibble of the skin, sip out the soup, then fully eat these whole thing). Next we had the pork kebab. We originally wanted lamb, but they had run out so we opted for pork instead. Usually a lot of places tend to overcook pork so it is dry, but these were cooked so well! It was served with some kind of tomato sauce that paired great with it. The chkmeruli was ordered by our friend who absolutely loved and obliterated the dish. I don't think I need to say more. So I am not new to Georgian cuisine, we have a great place back home in Mt. Kisco, but my mother had never had Georgian before so we gave it a go. Restaurant itself is in a bit off the beaten track in a strip mall with mostly non-food businesses. We were there on a Thursday evening which was not busy time. Clearly a family run business with one person cooking (the husband?) and one person serving (the wife?). When we arrived around 730 there was only one other table occupied and no one minding the front of the house so we seated ourselves. It was over 5 minutes before the server appeared from the kitchen but once we got her attention we were given menus. Had to remind her to bring us water. The restaurant itself was very homey and pleasant. On the food side of things we were very satisfied, absolutely delicious . We had the Eggplant Rolls and a Khachapuri Adjaruli (the one that looks like a boat with the egg yolk on top), both were very tasty. I had the Lula Kebab (land and beef kinda like a Kofta Kabab) and my mom had the Chicken Kebab. Both were delicious. I give the waitress credit because when I was ordering I almost ordered the fried potatoes as a side, but she made a face which I correctly intercepted to mean it was gonna be too much food for the 2 of us, which would have been true. Wonderful staff. As first timers we asked for recommendations. Lamb Chops were our first choice but were unavailable tonight. My second choice was the Beef Stew also not available. We started with a very Georgian wine which was drinkable but no one really enjoyed. My hubby got the Spicy Veal soup which was not too spicy but they brought over a small ramekin of red pepper chili flakes and he loved it. My friend got the Borscht soup which is served hot with a side of sour cream. He liked it but it could have had more flavor. We all enjoyed the cheese bread, Khachapuri. This was a unique experience with a very different type of cuisine for us. I'd had this restaurant booked for some time, but was hesitant to try it although we are a bit adventurous. Tblisi is the main city of the country of Georgia. We knew it was located not far from Turkey in the Caucasus mountain area, but not much else about the region or its food. The Cafe is located in a strip of stores, but it wasn't easy to find as the outside top marquee did not have a sign on it. I had to call and ask what they were near. The day was cool and rainy and we were in the mood for soup. We found a couple choices in their menu. The menu had items that reminded us of Turkish/Greek food and some Russian dishes. We were the only diners when we stopped by for lunch. Inside the room is darkened. Lots of interesting paintings and objects line the walls. We started with a rolled eggplant appetizer. I thought it would be served hot, but it was cold. The thin slices of eggplant were wrapped around a filling with walnut paste. I'm not sure what else was in it, but we both liked it. My husband had their meaty borscht soup. It had beets, cabbage, and potatoes, too. It came with a side of sour cream. He said it was quite good. I had their spicy veal soup. It was only slightly peppery and filled with lots of shredded meat. If you want to experience a cuisine you don't find a lot in south Florida , then venture here for a cultural exploration. read more

On a cold rainy day, this place beckoned us to stop in and try one of their hearty Georgian soups. Located midway in this strip plaza, (directly across from the new Ahbitz location), this small restaurant is welcoming and cozy. Our pleasant Georgian server greeted and seated us with menus and gave us time to make our choices. We decided to share a rolled Eggplant appetizer. Served cold with cheese and minced walnuts inside, with just a kiss of garlic, this was delicious. It was a dark and stormy night (which is very relevant to my experience)... the tinted windows made it look like it was closed, but the hours said that it was open, so I walked in. I was the only diner, which is surprising as I would find out how good the food was! I'd only had Georgian food once - an amazing kachapuri, and even though it's something I would order anywhere, I wanted to try something new. I settled on the chkmeruli - chicken in a garlic cream sauce and mixed meat khinkali. The chicken (on the bone) was moist, meaty, and perfectly tender in a very light sauce. Although I'm a huge fan of garlic, the garlic flavor was very light and worth spooning over every bite of chicken. It was a fairly large portion - I wasn't able to finish because the khinkali was on its way. I have never met a dumpling I didn't like. This was no exception. The wrapper was thick and bouncy, and contained delicious veal and pork mixture with a very flavorful liquid, almost like a soup dumpling. They were gigantic and I could only finish two. The server (owner?) was so nice and explained how nothing was frozen, and everything was made fresh. I believe it. The meal wasn't cheap and included a service charge on the bill. I think it was worth it, though. Making dishes from scratch and with high quality ingredients isn't cheap either. So... if you see a restaurant that looks closed but is supposed to be open, don't drive away - you never know what you might miss! read more

What an amazing place to spend a nice Mother's day evening! They had live music, super friendly staff and delicious wine/food. We had salad, eggplant roll, creamy garlic chicken and the cheesy item in the picture (hard to remember the name). That was the best part of our dinner. Having an egg yolk was such a great addition! Salad was delicious! We were not a big fan off the eggplant roll, it was pretty simple. The creamy garlic chicken was very unique, the sauce tasted like something I haven't tried before and I loved it! Tiramisu was great as well. Growing up on Georgian food in Central Asia, I was floored to see a top-rated Georgian restaurant in South Florida while on vacation. On a Friday in March, my eight-year-old daughter and I enjoyed the dining room to ourselves around 2:30pm for a late lunch. Staff are very friendly, but it did take a while to get their attention. (They were in the back preparing food.) Our server didn't know English very well, but we got by. The food was good! It's pricey, but portions are large and it's very filling. Dining with empty stomachs, we got the trio of vegetable dips, khachapuri, and the veal and beef dumplings. It was way too much food! We wish we went without the dumplings even though they were delicious. To drinks, I got a glass of the semi-sweet white Georgian wine and my daughter got the Georgian lemonade, which is more like pear soda. Once we found it there was live music and even some dancing. The food was amazing- we started off with the khachapuri and Georgian salad. Ambiance inside looks a bit old school but is clean and feels like you're at your grandmothers house for a delicious home cooked meal. We got there at 12:30 on Wednesday for lunch. We were the only patrons. The owner came to take our order. We wanted the fried eggplant appetizer and we decided to share the huge cheesy bread with the egg on top. When the food was delivered the eggplant appetizer wasn't the one we ordered. She stated the other was unavailable anyway. The cheesy bread was delicious and the cold eggplant salad was ok. At about 2:30, we still were only ones there and we ordered Turkish coffee and a napoleon. The napoleon was not available so we ordered tiramisu which was the only other dessert. Neither the coffee nor the dessert were good. Coffee was very weak and tiramisu was soggy. We stayed another 30 minutes and then requested the check. Beware they added almost $11.00 to a $60 check as a service charge. When we questioned that, we were told that included the tip. We paid the bill and left. Only as we were getting up, did another couple come in. Would I go there again? Probably not as only the main dish was good and it was very similar to a white pizza. So I don't need to go there for that. I should add that the restaurant itself was small and simple in decor Also hard to spot in the strip mall. Went around twice before I saw it. Maybe dinner draws more of a crowd and dinner offerings looked interesting. Price for lunch was high considering we had no meat and shared a dessert. read more
