Cool setting and you can get coffee, tea, cocktails, desserts, breakfast, and a limited lunch/dinner menu.

Tried Cafe Stella since their expansion. I am so happy that I went back. Not only do they serve amazing breakfast foods all day, their lunch and dinner selections are equally as delicious. They have a whole variety of coffees and teas, as well as cocktails, beer and wine. The place is very relaxing and the staff are polite. I highly recommend Cafe Stella for everyone! read more

Today I experienced the worst customer ever from the manager Cafe Stella (Ghent location). After being approached "brashly" that to have a table at this business, you must purchase something, my friend and I approached the counter to order. Only to be met with animosity in tone and approach. I was told that I "rolled my neck" with attitude (untrue) and that I should take my business to a competitor because "I don't have time to deal with this", all because I told the manager I did not appreciate the way he approached us. I stood up for myself and was met with the rudest display of human disregard. All in all, I purchased a peach iced tea, which was placed on a counter forcibly, and was told, "We don't even need your money here." I asked for his tone to be corrected, and then he proceeded to "ignore me" and say I'm not going to deal with you. His co-worker, multiple times under his breath, told his manager, "Just drop it and leave it alone." When I asked them to please assist, I was told, " I wanna stay out of this." At the end of the day, while we did not purchase something immediately, we "were" frequent customers at this establishment. But after today, why should ANYONE go there? This coded, aggressive behavior makes it hard for folks to be civil and peaceful. My tone never raised. I wasn't belligerent. But I was talked to and treated like I was "nothing". NOTHING. And that is not acceptable. Might I add my friend and I were meeting for a business gathering and were only there for roughly 15 minutes. We had all the intention of ordering but just not immediately as to establish ourselves. read more

Love the vibes here! Every time I've come here there are people just chillin, drinking coffee and on their laptops. Like a way more laid back Starbucks in a way. It's got a really cool aesthetic inside that keeps your eyes wandering around. There's also a place outside that you can sit and eat at as well, or smoke a cigarette if you're into that. The menu is written on this huuuuuuge blackboard behind the register and the people who work there are super nice and don't make you feel stupid for not really knowing what exactly it is you'd like to order. I was advised to try the cafe au lait with honey and vanilla, and it was amazing! read more

Cafe Stella. What can I say? Surprisingly it has already been years since I have been coming here and it truly has been a home away from home. What has prompted me to write this review is casually overhearing that one of the phenomenal workers there - Casey - is departing very shortly. I haven't been able to think of a synonym besides 'phenomenal' to better describe her and the other staff members. I've been all across this country and the customer service, attention to detail, kindness, and overall work ethic they display is truly top notch. No matter how early in the morning, late at night, or busy - they maintain the same level of excellence. I've always said that people who have even a slightly negative experience are quick to write bad reviews or ask for management, but someone who loves an establishment may go there for years and never even put money in the tip jar... I almost let someone leave who works at one of my favorite places go without "putting money in the tip jar". I can't speak for everyone else who goes here (although I think I can speak for most!), but I've also been saying for a very long time now that this place is one of my top 3 that I will sorely miss whenever I leave this area. I've even gone so far as to only bring people here who I have a close and personal attachment with. Clearly, I could go on and on (I've also posted this review on Google) but I will stop it here! When the time comes? I will truly miss this little coffee shop & as we say in the Navy: "Fair Winds & Following Seas" to you Casey. What you did here mattered. I love Cafe Stella. I enjoy the eclectic furnishings, the food, the amazing service and the gentle conversation with strangers of diverse backgrounds. It is artsy, urban, raw, and soooo interesting. Great cafe serving food, alcohol, coffee and tea. Great live music on Thursday nights.

If you poured two tablespoons of coffee into a cup, added water and topped it with a bit of milk, it would be this drink. My guess is that someone poured hot espresso onto ice instead of into milk to cool it down, which would have likely improved the quality of this beverage. If you're someone looking for a cute stop but don't mind the quality of the coffee this is your place. read more

Their coffee is rich, bold, and aromatic. Great food choices on the menu and the same for the pastry case. You can get breakfast food all day! The french toast is simply amazing. The avocado toast is very good, too. The brewed drip coffee is the best in town. Try their chai or matcha tea lattes if you don't want coffee. Sit and sip on their patio. The staff is attentive, patient and friendly. They really take the time to get to know you and your orders. read more

Very bad experience. For my first time at the shop, I was welcomed by such good vibes and ambiance by the look of the inside and I went to go look for a seat to set my stuff down before getting ready to look at what I want. Not even 10 seconds into coming into the shop, I was rudely approached by the manager, as she aggressively told me that the table I was setting my stuff on was "for customers only", assuming that I was not a customer. She then told me I needed to leave if I was not going to buy anything, when I was clearly looking at the menu for what to order. It's a shame my experience to this shop was let down by rude managers, as I was ready to have a good time and enjoy some coffee with friends. read more

What can I say that has not been said. I'm an older lady (48) and truth be told, I used to be too scared to try Stella's. I couldn't go into Stella's because I wasn't a hipster. I happen to resemble a Nickelodeon mom type. But thank goodness someone made me go in with them. It wasn't hipster it was ....just ....Stella's. I fell in love with the place immediately. I found out the folks in Stella's don't care about types. They are super chill and accepting. Hanging out there, well, it kinda makes me feel cool. But that's because I'm a nerd that way. So, don't let the Ghent location give you pause if you are a super nerd like myself. I love the eclectic decor and the umbrella shaded patio is great for people watching , enjoying a cup of coffee or even a glass of wine. The menu for food is rather expansive. It is all (what I've tried so far (the grit bowl is my fave)) very good. Stellas sells the beans they roast and the can of coffee beans can be refilled. When you bring it back they give a dollar discount on the refill. That's cool! You should go hang out. All of the people you meet at Stella's are unique. You gotta just go spend an hour or two. You won't regret it. The window seat is my favorite. I call dibs! read more

Cafe Stella, you're adorable! I'm only reviewing on a recent take out order - wish I had stayed! Great selection of flavored syrups and the coffee they use tastes really good. From the outside, it doesn't seem very big, but once you walk through the front doors, you're met with seating everywhere and lots of people with their laptops (just an observation!) Inside was clean and spacious, staff were pleasant and helpful, and there is quite a variety available - A LOT of choices on the menu, so it is very easy to not pick just "one" thing... just get everything you want, go on, treat yourself! Seems to be a local favorite, will have to come back and dine in and update this review. read more

Such a fun cafe right in Norfolk! Cool vibe in the whole shop with fun window seat spots perfect for people watching and working or even just reading while enjoying a cup of coffee or a latte. The coffee here is so good whether it's drip or speciality you won't be disappointed. They also have food options which I haven't yet tried but everyone was ordering food so it must be delicious. The biggest downside is parking but it's worth circling the block to find a spot! read more

Ambiance was great! Food was really good. I loved the Turkey club I got. The chips they were served with had great flavor. Chai latte, dirty chai and two different iced teas were very disappointing...the reason for three stars instead of 5. They lacked flavor and sweetener. Not sure is this is how they normally are or if we just got someone who was new at making them. read more

My daughter and I came in on a Saturday afternoon. What a spectacular space this is! High ceilings, lots of natural lighting, spacious seating and oh that wonderful coffee smell that permeates the air! They weren't busy at all. We were able to go straight to the front and order. To bad I wasn't hungry at the time, or I would have ordered something from their menu board. (Everything looked delicious!) I opted instead for a coconut almond iced latte. I am a straight shooter when it comes to food and reviews. I WANT to say it was delish...however it didn't really impress me much. I tasted a slight hint of coconut and almond. The coffee was good enough but very weak. The lady behind the counter that took my order and made the drink was not as chipper or friendly as I would have liked. It somehow did not match the ambience of the shop. I'm sorry but I'm used to baristas and workers at coffee shops being very friendly (from what I thought was from the coffee they make).. This place is great for meetups, work/school, and just hanging around for great conversation. I would absolutely come back to try their food. I will then promise to update my review. Sure hope I don't regret it! [insert sigh] read more

First time here, and I was impressed with the cheap prices and diversity of menu options. I had an iced coffee, which was decent, and a slice of almond cake, which was amazing 5/5. My fiancee got a brownie, which she didn't like much because it was more like fudge, but that may be personal preference. Next time that Im here, I will definitely try other things on the menu. The cafe itself is large with plenty of seating. read more

Great see every time. Had the lox bagel breakfast sandwich each time. I am used to a more toasted and cream cheeses bagel. I guess I have to make a note each time I order it, maybe it's their style??? Each time was vaguely cream cheesed so I was kind of disappointed, I am used to cream cheese on both sides of the bagel and all toppings evenly placed as it's a sandwich so each bite should be delicious of all flavors. It's good, will keep getting but will add notes because I'm a tad picky and used to normalcy bagel breakfast sandwiches lol. read more

Second time going here so I got the cafe burger again and it was just as good as last time. I love this burger! Tried the Granby sandwich too and it was really good as well. I visit Cafe Stella 5+ times every month. I live about 20 minutes away, but it's 100% worth the drive. Their espresso drinks are the best in Norfolk - dare I say, best in Hampton Roads. My go to drink is just an ordinary single shot hot latte, but I also love their juices (like the red betty), their mochas (when my mom visited she downed 2 iced mochas in our visit), and all of their food is delicious. It's a super cute place with pretty good food and drinks. Though sometimes it can be a hit or a miss. Only downside is that a lot of people come to do computer work (which is fine) and take a table that sits 4-5 people while they sit by themselves. I find a lot of people pacing back and forth trying to find a table to sit at or racing to a table to squeeze into. read more

I received a very hot tea(hot enough to cause 2nd degree almost 3rd degree burns on 60% of my thighs) with a lid that did not fit and no grip on the cup to hold the hot cup well. The owner was unwilling to help with any of my emergency room bills, and treated me rudely then just ignored me. At least have some compassion if anything. Felt thrown aside and now I have permanent scarring on my legs. It's not even the money at that point just be a good human being. Never going back and I don't recommend it. read more

A cute coffee shop with tons of seating both indoor and outdoor. They have a huge breakfast and lunch menu, alcoholic drinks, pastries, and specialty coffees. The vibes are immaculate if you enjoy sitting at coffee shops and getting lost in your work or a book. So far, I've had an iced mocha and a cappuccino. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. As for lunch items, I've tried the burger - which is most definitely homemade as it is a thick ground beef patty. The burger has a sweeter profile because of the caramelized onions, and it comes with chips and apple fries. Parking is a bit difficult! read more

I'm back! I know that my frequency at Stella's has fallen off a bit and the why is reflected in a previous preview. Make no mistake that I'm a fan of their coffee and happy to see improvements on National Coffee Day. The patio was clear of most debris, an issue I've had in the past with cigarette butts and trash has been rectified. The side walk was clear of trash. The door no longer sticks. My visit was mid morning on a weekday so no line thankfully. However, they were still very busy. The dining room tables not in use were clean. However, some display areas in the rear dusty. I utilized the restroom prior to ordering and found it had all the proper supplies, but the surrounding stool was in need of a good cleaning. No debris on the floor. I also ran into Stella and visited for a little bit. She is a very sweet hard working woman that I respect. Friendly barista's, especially David who went above expectations to provide superior service. I will explain later. My white chocolate mocha was spot on tasty and remained warm through my breakfast. I discussed breakfast options with the staff and came up with a newer item on the menu. The buttermilk waffle sandwich served w/ syrup on the side was scrumptious. It comes with bacon, fried egg & cheddar. I felt it did not have enough syrup however. The breakfast meal came out in about 15 minutes, no napkin delivered with the silverware. My small sign was on the table, however she passed me and I had to call her over. There is help yourself items at the side bar area where I found the napkins. Just my opinion a napkin should be delivered with every meal. When handing off the plate the woman attempted to put the fork and knife on the plate almost breaking the egg yolk. Proper procedure is to put the silverware on the table. A friend met up with me and asked that I order whatever I like in advance of their arrival. David prepared one of his favorites, an eye-opener. He held off fixing it until just the right moment before my friend arrived so he could enjoy a hot cup. My friend said it was delicious. David then came out behind the bar later to check and see how it was. That was impressive! All in all a good visit and I'm happy to provide an upgrade today. Great coffee and a yum breakfast. More like a 3.5 visit, but could not get them to a 4 today...but I hope to soon. read more

Cafe Stella is maybe my favorite coffee shop ever. I know that sounds extreme, and I'm not even sure I can put into words why. But let's try: First off, Cafe Stella has a great neighborhood vibe, always buzzy in the quiet coffee shop sort of way that makes it feel cozy and heightens your awareness that it's a worthwhile place to be. The decor is nice and funky, without being wild and overstimulating. They serve up a great cup of coffee, and they have a really great selection of teas. I had one of the best green teas of my life one evening in Cafe Stella, I believe it was nicknamed the popcorn tea: earthy, unusual, savory, warming and delicious. Also they have glass displays full of beautiful homemade treats to go with your hot drinks. We lived just down the road from Cafe Stella for a while, and I used to love our visits. We never went often enough to become typical "regulars," but that's only because we don't got out often enough for coffee to be regulars anywhere. If we did, it was to Cafe Stella. read more

After driving around for 15 minutes looking for a parking spot, Finally a bookmark checked off...yay! This is retro spot with a lot going on. I mean the decor and stuff is fitting for the Ghent area though. There's plenty of seating inside but people with their laptops and books in hand tells you they are not going anywhere anytime soon! I guess the menu are all on this chalk board behind the counter that is hard to read. The ladies behind the counter were not friendly or inviting at all. I mean they saw me staring at the board for at least 10 mins and they did not once ask if I needed any assistance, they just carried on doing whatever they were doing. But thanks to many Yelpers' pictures I just went with the pictures. I went with the salted Carmel latte (double shot espresso) & lemon buttermilk pie. The latte tasted nothing more than warm sweet milk! Did not have the Carmel flavoring at all and definitely any coffee taste either, very very disappointing!! The pie was ok, I think it's too sweet and not lemon enough to warrant a lemon buttermilk pie. If I was to close my eyes (which I'm doing that now to test it) I can't honestly think I'm eating something lemony. So I had bland latte, bad customer service & parking sucks! But today was a nice sunny day so today's adventure with a bookmark checked off isn't going to steal my joy! Haha!! read more

Café Stella is a really cute spot, and I love the way it's decorated; however, with that being said their product is just not worth the price for me. The first time I came here I ordered the vegetarian tacos and a side of homefries and one of their coffee slushies. The food had little to no seasoning and I was under the impression that their coffee slushies were sweetened (which was my fault for assuming); however, the denotation of a slushie entails sweetness. *shrugs* Despite my first visit I decided not to knock them and give them another shot. This time I tried a breakfast burrito to go and a coconut strawberry smoothie. I will give it to them the smoothie was pretty tasty; however ot could've been kept in a cooler storage container. The breakfast burrito was a bust for me, barely and chorizo on it and I kept hitting my teeth on little stalks of parsley. The first time I thought it was just an honest mistake, but the second and third time showed me this was done on purpose. You can perform a simple google search and see that those aren't supposed to be in used in dishes, let alone a burrito someone is biting down into and not really looking at. Such an unpleasent surprise. As I've said Café Stella is a cute little ecclectic spot; however, what you'll pay to dine here just isn't worth it in my opinion. read more

Great for sit in or take away. The scones and biscottis change frequently and today it is an apricot jam and my other choice a cherry cornmeal scone. Out door seating on a nice early spring day before the rains hit is a great way to start off my day. And while I think of this place as my go to breakfast/coffee for many others it is a place to enjoy lunches, teas and/or entree choices with wine or beer. What ever you are in the mood for this place welcomes all those with palates for great bite, eats, and get up and go drinks to mellow out and chill drinks. All this and the smiles from the helpers behind the counter make me always feel welcome. The cafe decor is as eclectic as are the patrons. Breakfast here in the very upscale Ghent neighborhood, Cafe Stella is quite the eclectic little find. Furniture that looks and feels like it fell of the truck, but I think it's all intentional. The counter looks a little beat up too, but everything *behind* the counter? Top notch. Starting with the coffee. I ordered a double latte, which was called out a few minutes later and I picked up a nice large mug with a strong foam. Perfect taste and plenty of coffee in there. It took a good bit longer for my French Toast to arrive, but the wait was worth it. A little crisped on the edges but soft in the middle, it soaked up plenty of maple syrup as I cut through it with the edge of my fork. Yum! Totally would return to Cafe Stella. read more

Another great non-starbucks coffee shop in the heart of Ghent. Lot's on interesting characters who come here. Sometimes the employees are a little..off...could've just been the night I went recently. I asked if they could do a Chai Tea Latte since I didn't see it on the menu and the barista answered me with "I guess we can". I laughed and kept ordering. The barista asked "do you want it sweet?" I told him "sure!". The barista answered me "either you do or don't", to which I answered that he seemed to have an idea as to how he thinks my drink should be made, so make it. He stopped and said "so..I'll make it semi sweet then" Strange back and forth that threw me off.... Anyway the decor is great there, sort of rustic and there is plenty of space. I always manage to bring friends that visit to this place but this time was a little off putting. read more
