Ok. So I can't find the pictures of our food. We had burgers and onion rings. Wanted something heavy enough to lead into the wine tasting. They were the BEST burgers ever. They were perfectly seasoned with all the right toppings. The waitresses were extra nice and it was a very cute lil spot we found on the way to the winery. The burgers tasted like the ones you would make at home. We all know those are the best kinds. My cranberry juice tasted like they had a tree it back. Unassuming but absolutely delicious breakfast spot in Calistoga. Recommend to stop in and load up on a hearty breakfast before heading off to wine taste. Their breakfast sandwich alone is so satisfying. Fresh scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon and even fresh lettuce on toasted sourdough. Served on a bed of crispy hash browns. Loved this so much! Also tried the 2-2-2 plate with 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes and that was amazing as well. Everything tastes wonderful here. However, one person in our party ordered a Belgian waffle, and it was thick, uncooked, and inedible. They ended up taking a couple of bites before giving up. Service: Upon being placed on the Wait List, the Hostess directed us to wait outside; I presumed that she would call out the name I gave, which she had written down; she didn't. I caught her returning back inside, not having called out the name I gave her. I had a feeling that she took us off the list. My husband then went inside, spoke with the man whom I can only surmise was the Manager. That man came outside, and beckoned me in, rather curtly. It really should have been at this point where the Manager, or even the Hostess for that matter, could have apologized and made things right; that obviously did not occur. My husband was famished, so I tolerated this unprofessional conduct. We were seated at a table which was quite close to the entranceway of the establishment. Here's another thing that could have been done with humor, but wasn't: our table has a mind of its own as it relies on the steadiness of the wall in order to maintain some balance. If we had been notified of this, I know that all of the water which has spilled out of my husband's glass would not have drenched the table, my purse, and the floor. As it was, we felt that the table was too close to the entranceway, and we had moved it a little bit from the wall, and in the direction where I was seated; there was ample room. Given the vibe of this place, the staff made it seem like we were the problem. Go figure. I believe we were made to wait longer for the meal we ordered. I noticed a couple who had signed in after us had received their meal at the same time we did. I felt bad for my husband. The bacon I had ordered with my meal was burnt and dry. The eggs tasted like they came from a milk carton; thankfully, the hash browns and honey oat bran pancakes were somewhat edible. As my husband was very hungry, he would eat anything placed in front of him, so there's that. Our server acted insulted when I had respectfully inquired as to the status of our meal; she let us know through her behavior that she could not wait for us to leave. Therefore, the tip reflected the way we were treated. In conclusion, this was the first and last time we shall patronize Café Sarafornia. I hope that the manager and staff will learn, and do better, from this experience. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here after a long road trip and the food was absolutely amazing. Staff was so kind and welcoming, food came out fast and the building and decor is fantastic. Felt so nostalgic and comforting. I got the Benedict and he got the biscuits and gravy- it was absolutely delicious. Based on the things that I have heard about this place, I was heading home from Ukiah to Sacramento, and decided to route through Calistoga just so I could have a late breakfast/early lunch here. I was not disappointed. The place is popular. Parking is street parking only. At 10:30 AM on a Monday, I was lucky enough to get the very last parking spot, on the block where the restaurant is located. When I came in, there were only a couple of tables left. Saying that, if you have to park farther, it's worth the walk, if you have to wait, it's definitely worth the wait. I liked the space. It's a medium sized space. It's a cheerful space, and everybody was friendly. I was served quickly. I decided to go for the vegetarian hash. It also came with goat cheese and pesto. Oh my God, it was a total home run. The veggies were seasoned well, and they were not too firm or not too mushy. They were just right. It sat on a bed of both hashbrowns and home fries, the potatoes were delicious and a perfect texture. The two eggs it came with were perfectly over easy, the goat cheese was tangy, and the pesto was rich. The toast was a very good quality sourdough, and even the coffee was great. For this amazing meal, the price was extremely reasonable, and they even offer a military/veterans discount. I would route my trips home through Calistoga again just to stop here. Heck, I need to stop here and just see more of this pretty little town. Thank you for a great meal. read more

Had breakfast Sunday morning 12/7 after a good 20+ minute wait outside. We had previously checked in but apparently they had forgotten about us. After a few reminders we finally got seated. I will say the food was excellent and our waitress was very polite and friendly. Can't really say the same for the woman who initially greeted us and had asked us to wait outside. She seems to be short tempered. Ambiance is cozy on the small side but the cafe is overly crowded as the food again is very good and the helpings are ample. We enjoyed breakfast at this restaurant both of our two days while visiting Calistoga. The preparation was fast and food very tasty. This restaurant has been operating since 1976 and is a classic diner with lots of its history in display. My wife ordered the 2+2+2 both days and I had the homemade corned beef hash (with chunks of real homemade corned beef) the first day and the Wildcat Scrambler (Italian sausage, spinach, mushrooms and cheese) the second. We came in for a quick bite in-between all of our wine tastings and this was absolutely fantastic. As soon as we found our seats, we were given menus and they quickly took our orders. Within a few minutes of ordering, they brought our food out and we were able to pay the check and leave in such a timely manner that it was perfect. The hash browns were crispy and flavored with garlic. The Benedict had a poached egg, spinach and bite sized pieces of ham. It was covered in a cream sauce. It was too much for me so hubby finished it. He had the mini breakfast. The pancake was light and fluffy. The bacon was cooked perfectly. Went in around 8:30am, we could choose our table. If you go around 9AM, expect a full house and some wait time. They are busy! Friendly server, great service, and yummy food. When we asked for 2 orders to-go, the server even tried to have the kitchen cooked the food closed to when we leave. The food stayed warm when got back to the resort! If you don't have high expectations, you'll never be disappointed-which brings me to Cafe Sarafornia. Let's break it down. We stopped by for breakfast as several reviews had positive remarks. Well, not so much. I really don't like dumping on small business but this one had just too many issues not to comment. Where do I start? Ok, it's a Monday morning so it's not that busy. We sit down and immediately notice small pieces of food under the table and crumbs between the two small tables that are moved together to make a table of 4. Clearly the night crew took the day off. Upon reading the menu, I see biscuits and gravy. I asked the server if this item could be substituted for the toast and she said I could and confirmed "biscuits" (later did I learn it was only 1- thus, not biscuits) and the gravy was runny and bland. At the very least they could have chopped up a piece of sausage and put it in there. Anyways, the meal was very basic and unremarkable. The coffee was good tho. Another issue was our friends ordered toast and they didn't have any jelly. Also, the ketchup was in this wide-mouth refillable bottle. This kinda grossed me out because as we were leaving I saw this guy use his dirty knife, where he just used on his runny eggs to scoop out the ketchup- which leads me to believe others do the same and I probably got someone's hibbidy- hibbidy. Lastly, the service was non-existent. We literally only saw the gal 3 times- ordering, food delivery, and check. Not one attempt to refill drinks or even ask about the meal. Mind you, still not busy. I could go on but I think you get the point. Now I realize this is probably a family run business but it's just too many things to not over look.
