This has been one of my favorite PR spots for years. The food is consistently delicious, hot and fairly quick. The restaurant always looks clean. I've had a good variety. As a Boricua from the Chi area I'll travel as far as u need to get the alcapurrias here. The price is a steal and they taste like home. Portions are decent and rather sacrifice portion for quality but here you get both. read more

Jibarito sandwich dinner wasn't edible at all. I was disappointed. I picked this order up to go. The sandwich had grilled onions, 2 tiny roma tomatoes on it and barely 1 piece of lettuce, it was greasy. I never asked for grilled onions. The steak was tuff. And it wasn't even enough to cover the plantains. It was insulting to say the least. There wasn't any love or pride in that. Honestly, I would appreciate a refund and a apology. I got the dinner dessert and a can of pop. I drove there bc I was heading out of town. My family and I enjoyed going to eat there regularly especially my mom's before she passed. It was our hang out spot. Please know that it hurts to have to share this review. Thank you read more

I've place an order on 1/14/2026 it was for a pork chop dinner asked for Puerto Rican rice (yellow) with beans. Once I got home I've noticed they gave me smushy white rice, The food was tasteless (no flavor at all), Cheeseburger was too dried and burnt, papa rellenas was too small. I've never seen it so small that it fit perfectly in my palm. In the picture it seemed like it was regular size and it definitely wasn't. lol The cashier (front) young lady taking my order seemed unfriendly, There wasn't any welcoming upon entering the restaurant. They need to pay attention to what the customers are ordering. read more

We'll say since I come to work in Midway airport more often. I discovered this Puerto Rican restaurant on the route when I take Archer avenue along the way. Despite that I made my own lunch today I decided to splurge and give it a try. I've had Puerto Rican food before but it's usually up in the north side of Chicago and that in the south side especially by Midway airport. Anyways the rellanos de Papa was delicious and the feelings were b however the portion seem to be small that's why I'm glad I ordered too usually some of the Puerto Rican restaurants on north make their rellanos de Papa bigger. There bistec platter with fresh salad and Puerto Rican rice was delicious however their portions were small too. The bistec had a red sauce versus oily fried sauteed sauce with onion taste. They had a different take on it. I drank it with the traditional Malta India beverage like on picture. I finished it up with a cocoa flan. I would come back again it was actually up the par with the Puerto Rican restaurants up north it's just I'm surprised the portions are smaller and they didn't serve water. Thus 4 out of 5 stars. Service was pretty friendly and quick. Ambience had a more modern feel with the Puerto Rican Caribbean Spanish music in the background. This is my first time coming and yeah I would recommend if you are craving for Puerto Rican and you're at Midway airport now that I know where this is at read more

Food is good but the service can use some work. Person who took our order was nothing short of rude. I am a senior citizen and was just trying to be friendly as should everyone be to all people. This must have been construed as being inappropriate which I most definitely was not. Treat people as you would like to be treated. The world would be a better place. read more

I love this place. I've been here several times and tried different menu items and they're all delicious. Service is good as well. The ambiance is always a vibe too. Good music, nice decor, great food! read more

HORRIBLE! I recently catered this past weekend Saturday feb7 for my daughters birthday and now everyone has food poisoning really bad . I will not be catering again read more

Jibarito was 10/10 , arroz con gandules 10/10, Yuka sopa was 8/10 , lechón 4/10 it was pretty salty couldn't finishing it, passion fruit agua was 6/10 a bit to sweet . Mojito de limón 8/10 Service was like 4/10 they were kinda rude, very like "I'm better than you" but also like "don't wanna be here" . Also ordering at the counter they had me waiting forever, also were taking other customers before me even tho I was in line. The ambiance was pretty nice very aesthetic, very modern it was really pretty. If they can improve the service , and fix the saltiness on the lechón they would be golden. Not sure if I'd come back. read more

This place serves some of the best Puerto Rican food in Chicago hands-down. Placed a same day catering order from here and the food was so tasty. Everyone thought the food was fabulous! I haven't sat down inside yet but the atmosphere is very cool and modern with PR flare. I most certainly will be coming back!! read more

Wow. Just wow. I came here with a group of teachers for lunch. We ordered ahead because we knew we were a big group and didn't want to spend our whole lunch hour waiting. So, when we got to the restaurant, we walked up to the counter and asked for our food. It was ready to go and still warm! We sat down and just marveled at the food in front of us. I ordered the jibarito with two sides.... And guess what.. it wasn't even $20! Ugh such good prices! I had the plantains and another item from the menu that I didn't get to take a picture of. I finished everything and was so stuffed! I posted this on my Instagram and there were so many people asking me for the location! I am definitely coming here again with my friends. read more

Horrible service. This place use to be good. I've placed order twice. First order rice was old and food was cold. Second order I called and placed an order at 12:30. I told them that the food was to be picked up for 4:15. When we arrived at 4:00, food was not ready and did not receive the food till 4:40. read more

I saw this place featured on TikTok and decided to give them a try tonight. Outside is a huge Puerto Rican chair which I love and want. The exterior is nice, decent. Inside the decor is contemporary and nice. There was a rather large party there tonight(funeral repast). There seemed to be a good number of tables there. The register is in the back. A lady spoke to me in Spanish and I replied in English and was transferred to someone that spoke English. I ordered a steak jibarito with white rice and a chicken jibarito with yellow rice which the order taker stated had no pork in it....oh well it does buddy. The pinto beans had a lot of olives in them...never had that. The 2 sauces they gave were hot sauce, no flavor at all and the mayo sauce was more like a soup - no gracias. The beef empanada was dry, no flavor at all. The streaming DJ music was very loud. My ears were ringing after I left. I waited about 20 minutes for order. Would I be back? Hmmmm no. I'll continue to patronize my spot in Pilsen. read more

Food was fresh and very flavorful. Service was excellent along with ambience. I loved that they offered a Jibarita with the sweet plantains. Cafe Rosa - Jibarito w Arroz Con Gandules - Puerto Rican Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

The lechon here was fantastic; juicy, tender, and flavorful, as it should be! The arroz con gandules was also delicious, although I'm going to have to ask for extra olives in it next time! I love olives in my arroz. I also had alcapurrias and a papa rellena, as well as bacalaito. All of those flavors really brought me back to my childhood. Exactly as I remember! My two friends who didn't grow up eating this food really enjoyed it as well. The portions here are generous and the prices are very inexpensive! Three of us ate for only $50, which was only about $16 per person. I've had much less satisfying meals from trendier restaurants for much more. It really made me so happy to know that this Puerto Rican restaurant exists all the way in this part of town. It means I don't necessarily have to make a trek to Division street when I have a craving for the flavors of my childhood. Thank you, Cafe Rosa! read more

Place is wide open space with a bar and various mixed drinks and beers we were told to sit wherever we wanted and she met us with menus or you could use their website which we chose because the menu was in Puerto Rican with no descriptions so we had to use their website We chose the tostones appetizer which I've had many times before and these were much better than any other places and I loved the garlic sauce oil on top Next we tried the shrimp mofongo it was really delicious and had a lot of flavor also ordered the steak jibraito which was outstanding and so delicious definitely my favorite one of all times Service was good as any other place we finished and have to pay up at the register I noticed something behind her and asked what it was she explained but never heard or had it before and she gave us a few pieces of plantains wrapped in pork since she was closing and was just going to toss them anyway had them the next day because we were way stuffed and they were delicious definitely coming back to Rosas for our Puerto Rican fix read more

I liked the rice and tostones from here. There was a sauce on the sandwich that I wasn't a fan of. I would say the sandwich could use a little more flavor and meat but overall it was pretty okay! I also got the plantains which weren't sweet at all like I was expecting. Also came with a spicy sauce that I enjoyed and added a little more flavor to the sandwich. Ordered through Uber eats and the packaging came very nice with enough utensils. read more

Had a steak jibarito with rice with gandules for the first time, food was great and price was awesome!

Recently I ordered and was so disappointed it wasn't correct and bad quality. I ordered 2 Riot Burgers and received cheeseburgers. My rice was burned also. Contacted the business through their Facebook Messenger and they said they would get management to get back to me asap. That was four days ago and now I know they don't care. Last time my family orders from Cafe Rosa. I'm owed some money because I didn't get what I ordered and there is a difference in price of what I received. Update: No reply about my order being wrong no apology or fixing the situation I'll never go back. read more

Servers were very rude and had a radio with the volume full blast. We asked if they could turn it down a little so we could talk to each other and they refused even though other customers were complaining about the noise. There is a new Puerto Rican restaurant, a mile away. We tried to be faithful to them, but they obviously don't care. I guess we won't be going back there and will be going to the new PR restaurant. read more

For the most part I am a true Puerto Rican prince, well that's what my mama use to tell me. But seriously, one thing I love in life is Puerto Rican cuisine. With the hint of adobo and the taste of homemade sofrito, now that what I'm talking about! Now if I do venture off to eat Puerto Rican meals anywhere in the world, best believe that they better rock my socks off! I am a snob I guess when it comes to PR food. I truly enjoy the hot dishes and I will call anyone out when it comes to taste and flavor, because that is one thing PR food should never be, is tasteless. Not saying that Café Rosa's was tasteless, but I am not accustomed to rice that is dry and definitely not accustomed to adding salt to any of my foods. Unfortunately that day I asked for an acapurila (plantain smashed and fried with meat inside), and of course for the second time, I was told by the waitress that they didn't have any at this time. Although I have to say that making them at home is a chore, so this may be the reason I like to eat them whenever I can. I was so disappointed and for the second time I was done! None of the foods that I had that afternoon stuck me as anything that I would return a third time for, and that's hard to say because I do enjoy helping out local businesses, especially a Puerto Rican one since most of the time you have to travel to Humboldt Park up north for a good one, but I digress. I so wanted to like the food here, but I can't seem to give it my all since it was my second time and it didn't strike me up. Sorry Café Rosa's but either you pick it up, or you won't make it on the south side. I'm not saying they are bad, but for me its not good enough to return and pay the prices (they are high) that they are asking for. Maybe I'll try them again in the near future, but for now, mediocre at best. read more
