two empanadas in a styrofoam container

Good little spot if you ever have a taste for Puerto Rican food, the inside was clean and looks nice with the artwork the lady at the front was really nice and helpful I had the jibarito which I believe could use a little more flavor either garlic on top or mayo but it was still good, the pastelillos is a definite must have it is really good! I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu which is a lot of choices they give you!

Hey fellow Yelpers! I've been to Jibaritos y Mas Southside in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood in…read moreChicago many times and this place never disappoints. I used to go to Jibaritos on Harlem in the Portage Park/Dunning neighborhood because I used to live in the northwest side, but now I live in the southside. I'm completely obsessed with jibaritos and the chicken one is the best one in my opinion. Customer Service: Every time I order whether that is a pick up order that I place through the phone or dinning in, the staff members are all very welcoming and polite. I feel like the same guy takes my order every time I order on the phone for pick up or in-person and he's the best. Kudos to you! You're doing an amazing job & keep doing what you're doing! Food/Drinks: They have a lot delicious options from food to drinks. My go-to order is a chicken jibarito, 3-4 sorullos (Puerto Rican corn fritters), and a large ice cold parcha (passion fruit) drink. It's the best!!! I'm craving it right now as I write this Yelp review lol. Overall Experience: Overall, I aways have a great experience eating at Jibaritos y Mas whether that is eating in my car or eating inside the restaurant. They prepare the food within a decent time and always comes out deliicous. I highly recommend this place that those that want to try Puerto Rican food or Puerto Rican food lovers. I hope this review helps Jibaritos y Mas & its current and future customers.

Once I got home I've noticed they gave me smushy white rice, The food was tasteless (no flavor at all), Cheeseburger was too dried and burnt, papa rellenas was too small. I've never seen it so small that it fit perfectly in my palm. In the picture it seemed like it was regular size and it definitely wasn't. lol The cashier (front) young lady taking my order seemed unfriendly, There wasn't any welcoming upon entering the restaurant. They need to pay attention to what the customers are ordering.

Despite that I made my own lunch today I decided to splurge and give it a try. I've had Puerto Rican food before but it's usually up in the north side of Chicago and that in the south side especially by Midway airport. Anyways the rellanos de Papa was delicious and the feelings were b however the portion seem to be small that's why I'm glad I ordered too usually some of the Puerto Rican restaurants on north make their rellanos de Papa bigger. There bistec platter with fresh salad and Puerto Rican rice was delicious however their portions were small too. The bistec had a red sauce versus oily fried sauteed sauce with onion taste. They had a different take on it. I drank it with the traditional Malta India beverage like on picture. I finished it up with a cocoa flan. I would come back again it was actually up the par with the Puerto Rican restaurants up north it's just I'm surprised the portions are smaller and they didn't serve water. Thus 4 out of 5 stars. Service was pretty friendly and quick. Ambience had a more modern feel with the Puerto Rican Caribbean Spanish music in the background. This is my first time coming and yeah I would recommend if you are craving for Puerto Rican and you're at Midway airport now that I know where this is at

    Pilsen

Let me tell you. THIS WAS THE BEST THING I ATE when I was in Chicago…read more I knew I had to visit Pilsen while visiting Chicago for the first time. Coming from the West Coast, we mainly have Mexican, Guatemalan, or El Salvadorean food. Muy rico, tried and true. But Puerto Rican is more rare. So when I saw those bright and beautiful PR flags out by the front entrance, and an almost full-house at 2pm in the afternoon, I knew I had to check Jibarito Shop out. I knew I had to get a jibarito because of the namesake. I love that there's a half and a full sandwich option. I was here solo, so I happily ordered the half option...but could've easily given into eating a full order. A jibarito is scrumptious, fried plantains as the "buns" or "bread" with the meat of your choice, and side of flavorful yellow rice and beans. I went with bistec. You're handed a number and wait for your food to be delivered to your table. The first bite blew my friggin' mind. Flavor, fat, and WOW. As someone who loves all fries, having that crunch and oil from the crispy plantains was gluttonous. Rice was so good, I was licking the paper bowl. Atmosphere feels homey and open, and there's lots of table options but they fill up quick because of how popular they are. Good for families but smaller groups. Restrooms are clean and single-stall. Service is so friendly and efficient. Shoutout to the magic hands who blessed us with delicious meals. I am still dreaming of what I ate at Jibarito Shop. Please come to California!

Ever heard of a jibarito, much less had one? I had never heard of them and was unfamiliar with…read morePuerto Rican food until the Chicago Redditors suggested tourists try it out. Boy, did the hype not disappoint at The Jibarito Stop. LOGISTICS As a tourist staying downtown near Millennium Park, this was easy to get to via the Pink Loop CTA line. The shop is super close to the stop and they have a good amount of seating indoors, though larger groups may struggle with getting seats together. You order at the front, but they will bring your food to the table. Drinking water is available for free. FOOD True to its name... they have Jibaritos here, which are Puerto Rican sandwiches where fried plantain are used instead of bread with a protein choice. The name also seems specific to Chicago as they are not part of typical Puerto Rican cuisine, but nonetheless they are DELICIOUS. All Jibarito options come with the choice of rice (red beans and rice or yellow rice). They also come in a "full" and "half size"... if I'm being honest the "full size" is really just two separate "half size" sandwiches. A half sandwich is plenty with a lot of protein. If you can share with someone else and order a "full" jibarito, it should still come as 2 separate sandwiches and then you have room to try another time in the menu. Steak Jibarito (Full Portion) w/ Yellow Rice: This was my favorite thing I ate during my Chicago visit, it was a good balance of sweet and savory. The steak is thinly sliced, not too chewy, and goes well with the creamy garlic sauce they put on it. The greens also made it refreshing. The plantains are also thin with a little crisp and chew and add a little bit of sweetness. However you need to really grab onto the sandwich with both hands to ensure it doesn't fall apart. Yellow rice was also really good with some beans in it for extra protein. I think it's cooked with a broth since it was flavorful on its own. Fritter Sampler: This was a great mix of fried goodies to taste. First the dough on the empanadas was light and crisp in texture. Fillings were generous on all of them - very flavorful with a variety of spices. My favorite was the shrimp one that had a bit of kick, and I think it was filled with either pumpkin/squash or a potato? Although it came with one of each, every fritter was really big and easily shareable between 2 people. I struggled to finish my half, especially with that large potato ball filled ground beef. Fritters also came with 2 sauces... an orange-ish spicy sauce and cilanto cirtus salsa that was delicious. Be sure to pour them onto the fritters as you eat them! OVERALL Great food for the price and portions! My partner and I were stuffed between the fritter sampler and full size portion of Jibarito. I am really happy I ventured out of the main downtown area to check this place out. As a tourist and first timer when it came to Puerto Rican food... this place was amazing! Jibaritos have become my new food obsession and I will be planning on coming back for more next time I'm in Chicago. Skip the hot dogs and pizzas, do not sleep on Puerto Rican food and The Jibarito Stop delivers on flavor!

I grabbed the 2 meat, 3 side special which included: stewed chicken, jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage and plantains. There's a solid amount of food and I'm going to be eating on this over the next two days. There's rice and peas were incredibly flavorful, moist and had a hint of spice. The stewed chicken's skin was falling off! That's how tender it was and I love anything with bell peppers and onions. The cabbage was solid with great crunch. Sometimes it can get too mushy, but this didn't. The plantains were just right!! Great palate cleanser as I transitioned to the jerk chicken! And the jerk chicken was a hit!!! Good amount of spice and flavor! And juicy! I also had extra jerk sauce on the side. Hmmmm I honestly enjoyed both chickens and would say if you're unsure of which to get, just get both... you'll definitely order from here again lol I ordered through uber eats and naturally was PRAYING that my order was correct and it was. A nice hefty serving and of course I also have a slice of the caramel cake. Mannn this slice of cake is so dang delicious. The two miles that I run tomorrow for this will be so worth it! I had never been to the brick-and-mortar location until now. I stopped in one Sunday afternoon to a restaurant that was not busy on the inside. I noticed there was a steady stream of individuals coming in for carryout. Nevertheless, I had a sit-down so that I could try a few items. I ordered the Belizean appetizer sampler. This came as panades, garnaches, and conch fritters. I liked the panades, which were corn patties stuffed with buffalo fish. They were nice and flavorful. The garnaches reminded me of Venezuelan tostadas. I think that what was a miss for this dish was the drizzle of ketchup. Since I stopped using condiments from grocery stores, the flavor of such tends to ruin dishes for me. I liked the conch fritters. I would order those by the bagful just to have for snacks. My main dish was the stew chicken with rice and beans and a side of plantains. Surprisingly, this was more like baked chicken. There was no hint of cumin, cloves, or garlic. There were no tomatoes. There wasn't a sauce or a gravy. There was flavor, of which I give them that, but the same stew that I've had in Belize and in my Belizean friends' home was not served here. It very well may be that the dish prepared here simply differs from that which I have had before. It wasn't a bad thing. Not everyone prepares every dish the same way.
