    Bistec jibarito and Cubano sandwich

The food was so good! Really enjoyed the cubano sandwich and steak jibarito. Loved the texture of the fried plantains in contrast with the steak. Will definitely be back.

Great service. Had the maduritos, sweet, warm and they give you a side of lechera as well! Sandwich is always a go-to for me and consistently delivers the same great flavor. (Cubano) The coffee is also delicious. Staff is really sweet!

This place is very very good!! My sisters and I came to have dinner here and everything we ordered was good. Brenda -The one who took our order - was super super nice and attentive - she earned her tip! I ordered the chicken encebollados and it was top notch with rice and black beans. Highly recommend this place!! Place is a bit chilly so if you are a always cold like me being a light sweater. The inside is nice and spacious. You order and then you sit and they bring you food.

I tried this spot not long ago for their breakfast and was impressed; good service, tasty food so why not for lunch/dinner right? Welllll....not so fast; still got good service. I ordered a chicken jibarito with PR rice & companion ordered the steak jibarito w/white rice. Also 4 empanadas(chicken, guava & cheese, shredded beef, ground beef). The presentation looked good on the jibarito but no taste. The "garlic" sauce tasted more like paste. The rice was ok, not spectacular. The chicken was a thin chicken breast versus my Humboldt Park spot gives u chunks of chicken. The chicken, shredded & ground beef empanadas were aight, thankful 4 the sauce. The guava + cheese is their signature 1...delish. Hmmm. I may want to stick to their breakfast or travel to Humboldt Park.

Amazing food and service. I like the service we received. One key takeaway from our visit is the Food! Delicious! I highly recommend to try their menu which includes a variety of options from sandwiches, bowls, starters and drinks! Thank you and see you on the next visit!

My friend and I split our sandwiches so we can taste both. I gave her some of my rice and she gave me some of her beans.

My friend and I decided to try a new restaurant and boy were we impressed with the food. It was delicious and I'm definitely going back with my family. The owner Señor Cesar was very attentive and brought us different sauces to try with our food and we asked him about the cafe cortado and we were pleasantly surprised that he provided us this coffee on the house. I ordered the empanadas de guava and cream cheese, they were delicious and went well with the coffee. My friend also said she would be back with her family as well. We found out that there's another location. The original restaurant but, honestly this one is perfect and closer to home. We will definitely be back since this restaurant is closer from our homes. There's a really nice selection of food and we were appreciative of the restaurant's attentive service.

Eventually…read morethis venue morphed into the new Bayan Ko (now a fine dining restaurant), and the original casual mashup of Filipino and Cuban cuisines transferred a few doors down to the former Glenn's Diner space as Bayan Ko Diner (got all of that?). My lovely wife and I finally made it to Bayan Ko Diner recently for a Sunday funday dinner. We were a tad early for our reservation time, but we were seated with no wait. It was cool to see images of Cuba displayed on the west wall, and Filipino scenes on the east wall. We received kind and thoughtful service throughout our meal. Since we went to two nearby breweries prior to dinner, we stuck with drinking water for our meal. We loved that the menu offered whole and half portions of most of their food items, and amazingly the price point of the half-portions were always half that of the whole portions. We decided to order only half-orders so that we could try a variety of dishes. We started off with Lumpia Shanghai and Croquetas as appetizers (two pieces of each are in the half-orders), and both were pretty tasty if not stellar. The Crab Rangoon dip was perhaps the most unique dish, as it is sort of a deconstructed version of the Crab Rangoons everyone knows and loves at Asian restaurants. The dip itself has a bold flavor, and it was served beside a bed of fried saltines. I know little about cooking processes, but the saltines were very salty and perhaps the frying aspect accentuates the saltiness of the crackers. Oxtail Kare Kare seems like an exotic Filipino dish, and the half-order consisted of a very reasonable number of oxtail segments. The oxtail tasted great with the bold peanut garlic sauce, and the plate is accompanied by eggplant (also excellent), bok choy, green beans, and a bowl of white rice.
