After we were seated and got our food, no one came by even once to check on us, not to ask how the food was, not to refill water, not even to offer extra napkins. The lack of attention made the whole experience feel rushed and unwelcoming. On top of that, the food just wasn't that good. Definitely not coming back. A hidden gem in the Chicago 'burbs. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this place far exceeded it. The atmosphere, the tables, the service, and of course the food! From the musical vibes, to the extra mile service --this spot left me with a lasting impression. It lifted and healed a tired spirit after walking the streets of Chicago. Me and a friend stopped by after 1pm on a Saturday. It was crowded but we did get a table. I don't get milanesa often because many times it's overcooked. Not here. Was very tender. Lots of sour cream, and comes with a side of fries which were really good too. Got a Jamaica for a drink and left very full. The carrots are a bonus. We didn't really have the tortillas, nothing wrong with them I just didn't want the filler. I should have turned them down but didn't realize we were getting chips. Food was not good. Today I placed an order to go. Two green chilaquiles dinners. One with egg and a large rice water. Eating my food at home the chilaquiles (tortilla triangles) were not fried. Just soaked in the green salsa and placed into the container and top off with sour cream and cheese. The rice was also not good. Only thing was good was the beans. You get a small pork belly taco, along two chips and two types of salsa, and some pickled carrots when you arrive. I loved the pork belly taco so much that I ordered one as my main (I only came for a snack). It was so good. The sauces are flavorful, go great with the lime and fresh cilantro. We ordered two extra to go. My dad had tacos as well- asada, pastor, and barbacoa- one of each. They were all good but the barbacoa was our favorite! Got two more of those to go as well. The salsas for the table are quite good too! One is more spicy but good flavor. SERVICE: Good, no complaints! Everyone working there speaks Spanish and has a bit of an accent. I had a little bit of a hard time understanding our waitress, but I love the authenticity that comes with the place. AMBIANCE: Could use some updating, but it's part of its charm. This review is solely based on the hours of operation. Pre-Covid Dona Maria was open later and I was able to get food all the time. Covid hit and the hours were adjusted, which is completely understandable. I was finally able to visit today, I inquired when they will be open later 6pm, they told me never. People work, they commute and 6pm closing doesn't accommodate dinner any longer. I love the food from here, but I cannot make it by 6pm. I was looking forward to them opening back up later. I highly recommend the food, it's delicious. I am really disappointed that I won't be able to get my favorite Mexican food. I now will have to find a new place and it's hard to live up to Dona Maria's food! read more

Small, festive, family restaurant in Summit across from El Faro, another great Mexican food joint. We went on a Saturday to Antojitos Doña Maria and many patrons were eating pozole which was served with all the fixings, like rabanos, oregano, etc. My husband ordered the tamiqueña and I ordered the enchiladas de pollo on salsa verde. As soon as we got our water, a small complimentary taco for each of us was served. Then our food came, which was great all around. As soon as our plates were picked up, we received another complimentary item, a small arroz con leche. We also ended up ordering two large champurrados to go and those did not disappoint!! Maybe the best value in an authentic Mexican spot I've tried. The portions are generous, the staff welcoming and the wallet-lightening is minimal. On finding a place to sit, you'll be greeted with complimentary chips and salsa (two varieties) as well as a small pork taco amuse bouche. For my lunch, I opted for two tacos ($1.50 each) - pollo and carne asada as well as a desebrada (shredded beef) huarache. The tacos were generously filled and piping hot -- served on corn tortillas. The huarache was not as big as my size 13s, but still plenty large. I didn't see much evidence of frijoles as a base layer, but the combination was tasty. They served it with a steak knife, which was a good move, as the fried masa base was to soaked with juices to be hand held. I'm a pretty hungry guy at lunchtime, and this combination filled me up completely. Next time I might just go for 3 tacos, though there are several other menu options which look tempting. I have been here before but never had such poor service. We sat 20 min before we were greeted by anyone! People walked in AFTER we did they were served before us. The huge take out line (9 people deep) got all their food before we did. And the margarita tasted like an Amazon box. The food was fair. I will not go here again. Such a disappointment.
