Several tables and booths inside, as well as window seats available. Nice bar area and extra dining area. Offering dine in, take away and catering. Very nice service. The 4pc Flautas de Pollo meal, large portion enough for 2 $16+. Cash or Card accepted. Highly recommend them. They are on the East side of the Street. Hadn't been back here since the original burned some years ago. Took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. They have greatly improved the quality of their food. Ordered enchiladas and they were amazing. Got me HOOKED. My daughter loves their steak burrito and steak torta. Hubby loves the bistec à la Mexicana. We'll be coming back A LOT. read more

The food is fresh and delicious, the service is quick and friendly staff and the ambiance is so comfortable

All the food here is absolutely delicious! As a Southsider for my entire life I can say from experience that good, quality Mexican food is not easy to come by in this area, but it can be found here. The service is also very good and friendly whether you dine in or carryout. The guacamole is one of my favorites and is superior to other restaurants as it is always freshly made, rather than premade or store bought like many other restaurants do. I was greeted when I came in & the person who took my order had good customer service & answered all my questions. The restaurant was clean & I really like the modern looking tables they used. This place used to be great 20-30 years ago. It had the best steak burritos and tacos around. Those days are long gone. I ordered a steak burrito. As soon as it arrived to my table, I knew it was not going to be like the old days. The tortilla is different and the wrap-job on burrito was so loose, I knew it would fall apart after a few bites. And it did. As for the inside of the burrito, things just got worse. There was barely any lettuce or tomatoes, they forgot my sour cream and the steak is so disgusting now you can't even tell it's beef. It is so heavily breaded/seasoned and just tastes horrible. Everything that was great about this place is gone. The kids working the counter were fine and friendly, and the place was clean. Everything apart from the food was just fine. Of course things change and all the old owners and cooks have died and moved on. I should've known better. I just hoped it would've at least been good, but no. It was disgusting. We ordered Bistek a la Mexicana Dinner. You couldn't even tell it was steak it looked more like Chorizo, and it didn't have any red sauce like it should. Came here for lunch as I had seen some great Marketing through social media and wanted to give it a try. The place is nicely remodeled and great seating space available. The service was good as I felt taken care of. I was a little disappointed with the steak tacos as the meat right away you can tell is not quality and the tortilla was very greasy. I also ordered the Tripitas tacos and those were ok but not a big fan like it states on social media. My son got a quesadilla he liked it. The guacamole and Chips were the better of what we ordered. I went there back to back Tuesdays just to make sure my palate was right. First, I traditional steak burrito and it was just as remember from back in the day at this location. Excellent. This past Tuesday I went back for another but was told by Karla (waitress) it is taco Tuesday. So I tried a beef and Al Pastor taco. Fantastic!! We'll be back. Also, big props to both servers... the location was remodeled, Mexican minimalism, loved the look and the music. the food was deliciou, I had a sope and a tostada. the meat was tender and well seasoned. no chewy pieces of fat, which I absolutely hate. the horchata, omg soooo good. took me back to my childhoo, I can tell they make it from scratch and don't use those readymade packets. service was also good, the staff was kind and quick. will be coming here more often read more

When I am driving from Hickory Hills into lovely Summit, IL craving a burrito I am faced with man's greatest conundrum: Do I turn left into El Farol or right into El Famous? I usually make that right turn 1/3 of the time. I like El Farol better but this place is good too. El Famous' have been popping up all over the place lately but this is the location that started it all. The prices, taste, value, and selection are all good but I feel it is slightly better across the street. these guys serve it up really quickly too! read more

I am betting the 4/5 stars reviews for this El Famous are from people who don't remember when this was an innovation in late night service with awesome food and quirky service. These days the food is crap. I had been going around to a variety of burrito joints these last few years - but when I discovered l could shave 10 minutes off my commute by taking this alternative route - I drove by the El Famous and stopped in. What a mistake. I paid five bucks for a burrito that I wouldn't feed to a starving toreador. Most burrito joints have that lovely little foil packet with the jalapenos and the hot carrots. Their packets was as big my thumb. Three carrot slices and one quartered jalapeno. This will not do. There are too many good burritos out there - El Farol is right across the street. Stay as far from this crap-shop as you can, people. Life is too short to eat bad burritos. read more

Good burritos, good tacos, friendly service. It's true, I started coming here about 15 years ago drunk and hungry one night when El Farol was closed. I've never crossed the street again. I had a "Big Mexican's Party" (that's how they advertise their catering) for my college graduation. The horchata gets 5 stars. My favorites are the burritos, chicken fajita tortas, and tacos with a side of beans and rice of course! I'm confused by the El Farol lovers around here. In reading reviews, it seems people usually love one place and not the other, but never like both. I've been to at least 5 El Famous locations and they are pretty consistant on their food and prices are different story. Quality knows no short cuts (skimp on portions and cheap food). 3. Don't forget what got you where you're at (do things right). 4. Don't forget who brought you to the dance (treat your customers with respect). 5. A Leopard Can't Change His Spots (in this case, it shouldn't) 6. A Picture Paints a Thousand Words (empty plates paints just as many). 7. Flashes In The Pan (the many places, including those in the El Famous system, who have failed unlike them). 8. Rome Was Not Built In One Day (neither is the reputation of this place). This is the location where I got hooked on chicken burritos. Meat is VERY nicely seasoned. Just down the street from my high school, I've eaten here a 100 times. Ignore the name that makes it sound run-of-the-mill, this place rocks. It carries the normal stock of Mexican dishes (torta, tcos, burritos, tostadas) etc, but all the items carry a lot more flavor and pop that the usual burrito place. Also, the spiced carrots are worth buying on their own. It is open at what seems like all hours. It is also way better than El Farol. I'd especially recommend the chicken or pork, but try anything, I'm sure it is all good. Also, on Tuesday it is Taco Tuesday which means $1 tacos and let me tell you, it is a great deal. Also, it is on the 63W and 55H CTA bus line, so the city dwellers don't need to be afraid of the suburbs. read more

When this establishment opened around 1986, it almost seemed like an abandoned restaurant due to the loyalty across the street. Then, El Farol's lack of cleanliness reputation began to spread like wild fire. Young Summit residents like me had no choice but to give El Famous an opportunity. I didn't have a car so walking was my primary method of transportation. I was not going to bike ride to the city for a burrito. Also, I would not dare to park my bike in front of El Farol or El Famous unless I was seeking to have it taken from me. El Famous impressed me thus I became an El Famous loyalist until about 2002. I did not notice a diminish in quality. However, I did notice superior meat quality from other Mexican taquerias and restaurants that began invading the south west side. Los Comales arrived in Bridgeview, IL and made a gigantic splash. Lucky Burrito made another big splash in Chicago Ridge and Zacatacos joined the fray soon after in Bridgeview. I no longer have to drive to my home town (born in Chicago, raised in Summit) to enjoy tacos, tortas or burritos. Although I see many El Famous burritos all over the Chicagoland area, there are too many better serving Mexican taquerias to choose from. However, in Summit, there's only one choice for me and that's El Famous. read more

If you want burritos at 3 a.m., you have a conundrum on your hands: El Farol and El Famous live right across the street from each other, both boasting football sized burritos at stupidly cheap prices, and both open 24/7--I think. (The only times we would go there would be at 2 a.m. after a late night of video games or floor hockey [there's nothing wrong with nerdiness!]). Inevitably, El Famous won the burrito battle because of their awesome horchata. I still feel sharp pangs of hunger and nostalgia every time I drive by, but look out, because Summit is one giant speed trap.. especially in the wee hours of the morning.
