My family had a lovely lunch here today. It was a lovely warm sunny day. Perfect to sit at a table under an umbrella surrounded by the beautiful garden. The bullfrog in the pond serenaded us. The birds sang to us. The food was delicious. Ira Ono himself came over and welcomed us. We'll definitely be back. read more

Absolutely loved this hidden gem! We had the most delicious lunch here today and I bought some handcrafted soaps from the Volcano Gardens shop that's attached to the restaurant. We ordered veggie lasagna w/tomato vegetable soup and the artichoke panini w/mushroom and seaweed soup and both came with salads and homemade dressings. I felt like we were having lunch at a friend's house and the friend was an award-winning chef! We topped off everything with homemade apple pie a la mode and it was amazing! After lunch we walked around the the grounds and it is absolutely gorgeous...so peaceful and Zen. Be sure to browse the shop that has several rooms chock-full of beautiful hand-crafted items and jewelry from local artists. A wonderful experience all-around! read more

First 5 star review I've made! This place is home cooked grandma made food paradise. Lol. If your grandma even knows what vegan food is... I had the lasagna which was very traditional but delicious and the fresh green salad and squash/coconut milk base soup. Deeelish My wife had the vegan panini with salad and the same squash soup. She says its da bomb! The ambiance is Louis Armstrong music meets the misty forest/jungle of volcano village. It's small and quaint but accommodating and friendly. Jonny B read more

Cafe Ono - Lasagna ala awesome. With loose leaf mint tea! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Volcano, Hawaii

Delightful place! The setting is beautiful. It feels like an enchanted forest. There is an indoor and outdoor dining area. We sat on the patio overlooking the garden. The food is delicious and healthy. We had the lasagna which came with soup and salad. The balsamic dressing is very tasty. They use eco friendly plates and utensils. Make time to go through the shop with beautiful artwork. Mahalo Cafe Ono! read more

Cute little cafe with tasty food, good loose leaf teas, and really sweet workers/owners :) It was really pouring buckets when we stopped by, so if that happens for you, it's just down the path between the half barrel/quonset tents. It's cozy inside, and there's free refills on the tea. Mr. Piano got the split pea soup and I got the carrot cake since I wasn't particularly hungry, but it was so good I took an extra slice to go for my parents. I'm not local, but if I were, I'm pretty sure I'd be back for sure :) Yum! read more

The best meal I've had on the island! Vegetarian food but I didn't miss meat one bit! Very impressed and would love to eat here every day of my trip. read more

I was concerned at first because it's an all vegetarian menu and the seating area arrangements are not the normal. But my wife and I split the Veggie lasagna, it was delicious. The service was prompt and very friendly. We also enjoyed looking around the art gallery. We enjoyed our experience and would definitely go back if ever in the area again. read more

Very impressed with this place. It's the best place near the volcano to eat, especially if you're looking to eat healthy. The menu isn't all that large but the food tastes amazing. I had a coconut curry soup with a salad & their green goddess dressing. Amazeballs. I tried a bite of my friends chili which was equally amazeballs. My friend ordered the carrot cake, which I easily helped her to finish off. So yummy. Great service, healthy & flavorful bites, nice vibes, lovely property and great locally made gifts in the gift area. read more

Cafe Ono - Coconut curry soup, salad, green goddess dressing and tarro chips. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Volcano, Hawaii

If home style cooking is for you, don't miss this spot. Lush gardens and delicious food are on offer here. Fresh bread and home made soups, sandwitches and teas are of the best quality. My husband and I were lucky enough to have a chat with Ira Ono, owner and artist, such a warm welcome, one does truly feel like Ohana. Tasty lunch and a walk around the gardens (don't miss the two bunnies) makes it a special spot to stop and refresh. Shop in the gallery and pick up some local art, prices are very resonable and the is something for eveyone. The Aloha spirit is very much alive here. read more

Had a great time. Vegan food with a spiritual, artistic, holistic feeling. Great times! The lasagna is amazing.

What a fun surprise to find this restaurant by Volcano National Park. The food was organic and quite tasty. Also lots of art work from local artists. The owner was a super host. We had lots of laughs while eating outside in a Green House. I highly recommend you stop and eat there. read more

There do use very fresh ingredients, but that's about it. There's definitely some rating inflation happening because there's not a places out here. The place is a bit touristy. A fair number of older tour groups stop by. read more

Cafe Ono is only open for lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and it's absolutely the best lunch for many miles around. Located in a lovely garden it shares with Volcano Garden Arts, everything my friend and I ate was simply spectacular. I had the artichoke and hummus panini and added mozzarella cheese. It came with soup, salad, more bread, and guacamole chips. I chose the mushroom seaweed soup and my friend had the vegetable curry soup. Both were delicious. Everything was amazing! Add the wonderful garden arts collection and you may spend a few hours. Absolutely the BEST thing in Volcano! read more

I came here with a tour group for dinner and Ira was such a great host. The Cafe is usually not open for dinner but he opened for us and greeted us on a rainy, wet Halloween with a glass of white wine. The restaurant is set in the back of Ira's art gallery and it is near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. If you are in the neighborhood, drop by and have a bite to eat with Ira. The food is all vegetarian. I started with a corn and potato chowder, which was creamy. It would have been perfect if the corn and potatoes were blended into the soup already but it was still pretty good. I should have gotten the peanut butter and pumpkin soup, which was a special that evening, since the people who got it raved about it. The salad was fresh and had an edible flower in it, along with a vinaigrette. The spinach lasagna was good, a little dry but hearty and filling. All in all this is a nice place to have a good meal with a wonderful background of art surrounding you. read more

Wonderful gallery, with a variety of artists, but also jams, salts, etc. A rainy day, so we decided to have soup- delicious!! A small bowl was quite large, came with wonderful toast. You can eat inside ( maybe 4 small tables), in the beautiful garden, or in 3 greenhouses. Definitely recommend.. read more

The food is delicious and include vegan and gluten free options on the menu. The surroundings, whether one chooses to eat indoors or outside among the array of lush vegetation, art works and quaint statues, are delightful. The staff are attentive and prices reasonable for the area. The path to the entrance is studded with bonsai, unusual plants and art. Once inside one passes through the store featuring original artwork, jewelry and accessories to the cafe. The Bohemian atmosphere is perfect for a casual brunch on a sunny day. We both love this place and come regularly. read more

Love this chic little cafe in the heart of Volcano. Thank you Yelp for helping me find this gem! We stopped here for lunch on the way to Volcano National Park. The setting is awesome. It's part of Volcano Garden Arts. When we drove up, we walked across the garden, said hello to Ernest the goat who was hanging out, then walked into the cottage/art gallery/cafe. The cafe is tiny, but they managed to accommodate our group of 8. Ira and the staff were super friendly, and we had fun perusing and shopping for jewelry and other fun items. The ambiance and friendly owner made it a 5 star experience. The reason I'm giving this four stars is because of the food. I was excited to find out that the food is strictly vegetarian. I got the vegetarian lasagna, shiitake mushroom miso soup, and side salad with green goddess dressing. The soup was yummy but came out lukewarm. The lasagna was yummy and the salad was just okay (dressing was bland). The garlic bread that came with it was delicious and nutty. A few people in our group got the chili which they noted was bland, but they were able to kick up the flavor with a little hot sauce. All in all, we had a good dining experience, but I think we were hoping for more out of the food. This place is a total gem though, and we had a great experience overall. I would definitely go back if I had the chance. read more

This is definitely a hidden treasure!! The atmosphere is very quaint and welcoming. The owner, Ira Ono, as well as our waitress was so friendly and tentative. I had an artichoke hummus grilled panini with mozzarella and it was AMAZING. I also had a salad and beet soup that I devoured. I am not a vegetarian, but this food was so good I had no idea I was eating a vegetarian meal. After we finished eating, we looked around the gallery and played with the goat. Random, but fun nonetheless. Definitely going to come back here next time I'm on the island! read more

This is a fun cafe to visit if you're visiting the Volcano park. It's nestled away in this secret garden area which is really cool. Service and food items are very home style. Even though they are vegetarian items, the food is tasty. You MUST try their home made vanilla ice cream. That's actually all I ate for lunch here...because I'm an ADULT. My group was seated inside one of the tents which also hosted some of the kitschy tourist trinkets that people like to buy on vacation. It felt more like a picnic than a restaurant, which is cool. I just wish the price of the food reflected the laid-back feel. It's definitely a bit more pricey than I expected. Not expensive, but higher than my expectations for what's being served. read more

What a hidden gem! Great food, wonderful service, beautiful location and unique art. Ira Ono was very attentive and a great host not to mention a remarkable artist. read more

Great lunch stop on the way to the park! Vegetarian food that satisfied the meat eaters in the group. I had the crustless quiche which was lovely, with cheese but not too rich. It came with a light fresh pea soup and salad, plus garlic bread. The family seemed happy with their food. We shared desserts which were all rich and decadent. The location is also a garden and gallery, with "please touch" signs everywhere. We visited the large rabbit in the garden, admires the art, chatted with the outgoing owner and nice woman who served our meal, and bought some goodies. It's a peaceful place that fueled us well for hiking. We definitely would stop there again! read more

Cafe Ono, wow, you left a footprint on my heart! This is a hidden gem! If you visit Volcanic National Park or are in the area, this place is a MUST! When we first pulled in we weren't sure we were at the right place. A few large tent's surround the drive way that are filled with art from local's and tables you can eat at. As you walk into the courtyard there are more outside tables, a small pond, balls for the kids to play with and a beautiful lush green garden including a tree trail :) There is some seating inside but we chose to sit outside in one of the larger tents where we would have a table to ourselves and the kids could play without disturbing others. There is a gift shop inside attached to the restaurant where they have all sorts of trinkets, jewelry and art made by locals. The owner is a riot! He took the kids out to the yard and kicked balls around with them and took them to see their GIANT bunny. The kids had a blast and we adults had a blast too because it was SUPER relaxing. He made the kids feel at home and put us at ease not to worry about letting them play. We were worried they would break something and he said "don't worry about anything, let them play and be little". Never in my life have I eaten at a place as calm and relaxed as this cafe. We felt so welcome and at home. The food was delicious! I had the vegan chili, the little girls had grilled cheese sandwiches, my BIL said the egg salad sandwich was to die for and everyone was stuffed when we were done but wait, it gets better...save room for desert! If you visit you have to try the carrot cake! OMG, talk about amazing. It was so moist and fresh. I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Cafe Ono. FYI, they do get tours that come through from cruise ships so it can get busy but don't worry, the owner makes everyone feel at home and they never rush you. We spent about 2 hours enjoying our time there and not once were we made to feel unwelcome or rushed. The grounds are lush and beautiful since it's on the rainforest/wet side of the island so there are lots of great picture opportunities in the garden. The garden is well maintained and they have worked hard to create a beautiful tree trail that has an area where weddings are performed. It really was a phenomenal find and a hidden treasure. Cafe Ono left footprints on each of our hearts and memories we will cherish forever. Thank you for such a wonderful day and for making us feel like a part of your family. read more

We came and let a girl on crutches ahead of us, and though they took forever to order, we patiently waited for 15 minutes. By the time we got there, they said "no, it's not a good time to order." Umm what? They literally wouldn't let us order (which was just the grab and go pastries right there - no order to be placed.) So they sent us away. We would have waited in the gallery, but to literally rudely tell us "no can't order at all," after we let those people in front of us and waited for that long. Just rude. I live in Hawaii, and it's not how people should act. Get some aloha. read more
