Yes , another reason you live on the big island .Mine are people. They are friendly and kind. Being Filipino means that we show how much we love each other by food. If the food isn't good they don't like you. They love us here. From the fried oyster appetizer to a teriyaki burger and fries. This isn't your hipster, new age, upscale restaurant. No it's better. It's your classic, local, down to earth Diner and bar. This establishment works hard, with only a few people serving and waiting and cooking. And they are on top of your dining needs. Truly old school, using carbon paper, a retro cash register and the only thing that's connected to the internet is the credit card reader. Prices are reasonable and food is excellent. They have all the classic diner food and Hawaiian favorites that are prepared well and good portions. They also have a connected bar if you're looking to catch the game and have a drink. All food is available there as well. The main dining area has booths and tables. Making it a good location for large groups or private dining. Atmosphere is casual and not too loud. Even when busy. And they do get busy. My husband and I went on a Thursday around 11am and we were seated right away. But a large group and some others came in just as we finished. So plan well and enjoy. read more

Substituted their top of the line "Onion Rings!" instead of the usual offerings...Great Choice! Additionally, the Chicken Teriyaki "Hawaiian-Asian" Style combo plate, very good. I read. A few bad reviews and decided to check this place out myself. The atmosphere was really great, it seemed very family oriented. It could use a modern touch though. We got seated and served immediately, waitress gave wonderful suggestions when we were ordering. Drinks were very tasty. The food arrived warm and tasted delicious. My husband was pleased with his seafood platter and I had the Hawaiian stroganoff. If we visited the big island again would definitely come back and we recommend for others visiting. The waitress was super pleasant to talk to, as she was from my home state of AZ originally. The AC was cold which was awesome, and the chocolate pie wasn't bad at all. We only stopped in for the pie so I can't give much of a review beyond that except that the wife said the bathroom was very clean. We sat on the restaurant side instead of the bar area, and it was quiet and clean overall. Not too loud or anything like that. Just a nice place to step in out of the sun for a minute. The next time we swing through we will have a full meal here to see how it measures up. read more

4 of us had a great meal here. Very good food, very friendly and prompt service. Casual comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend this place. I have only one minor criticism that won't affect 99% of patrons. I hesitate to put it here but elsewhere on the internet they list accessible restrooms. And as a person in a wheelchair I can verify that it's largely true. The doorway is of ample width and the room is large enough. The only issue was the lack of a grab bar at the side of the toilet. Well, it was inexpensive, but neither the server or yours truly was remotely embarrassed! The bartenders,(except Danielle) are very rude and mean and like to gang up on customers, along with the bar "regulars"and are extremely unprofessional. We were visiting a beach nearby and met a local surfer. We mentioned to him that we were going to grab some lunch and he suggested we stop at Black Rock Cafe. We love to get recommendations from locals when we're on vacation so we didn't even bother looking at reviews. Without hesitation we hopped in the car and made our way to Black Rock Cafe. The cafe is basically a diner in a small strip mall. There are booths and tables to sit at. The menu has something that just about anyone can enjoy. The dishes are huge and very reasonably priced. Service was fast and friendly. Everything me and my family ordered was delicious. We were so full from our late lunch we didn't even bother getting dinner that night. Walked in on 1/9/2025 and was promptly seated. The waitress came a few minutes later and took our order. After she left my sister in law pointed at my wife with a horrifying look. I looked at my wife and she had a large cockroach crawling on her shoulder. We got up and ran out of this restaurant as if it was on fire. Think about this for a moment, if there are cockroaches crawling on diners, just think about the infestation going on in the kitchen. Also, I ordered my eggs over easy they were over done like well done only two strips of bacon, and hashbrowns are lousy. So I guess bottom line is this.
